A big awesome thank you to: Calliope's Scribe, Phoenixsbirdsofflame, CherryBlossoms016, Kilera! And to all the people who started following since my last update THANK YOU. You guys are all so amazing. I know it has been a while but I think it's time to pick this story back up and keep going.
Just a bit of a warning past this chapter: I like to use very current storyline from both TVD and The Originals so if you aren't up to date then be warned. I tweak and twist for sure but I throw in things that could be considered a spoiler.
Chapter 11:
They ran towards the small cabin, each one grabbing what they could fit into small ruck sacks. But Cody was not so sure that her brother was right. And even as she followed her mother's order's, she couldn't help wonder if Niklaus would come looking for her. What his reaction would be once she was gone without a trace. Should she slip away and try to find him?
"Go around back and grab the reigns to Cass." Maggie told her, shoving her towards the doorway. "Then we will leave, no excuses." Maggie watched her daughter make her way towards the door. And she felt it.. She wasn't to see Cody again.
Cody slunk around the cabin to the horse, grabbing the reigns. But as she made for the horse she stopped. She had given Niklaus a huge part of her the day before. She loved him.. If she just ran now what would that mean to him? And if Calder was wrong and this was all a lie? Would she forgive herself?
It was quiet when Cody finally reached the village. Silence had crept up on her fast but she figured the veil of darkness would hide her from any prying eyes. But as she reached the village she noticed a strange silence. Where there was normally laughter and people, there was nothing. Not a single sound.
"Where the hell is everybody..." She muttered, tying the horse to a nearby tree. The village was like something out of a horror movie, the roads dead, void of any life. The birds weren't chirping above her and the market lay bare of merchants. It wasn't until Cody turned the corner towards the dwellings that she saw it; blood.
There was blood everywhere. Strewn high above her in the tall trees that gave some of the village it's strange blanket of shade. It lay scattered in the dirt and on the houses. Bodies lay against things as if thrown like rag dolls. Necks broken, open and bleeding into the dirt below her.
Cody leaned down to the first body nearby and touched the face softly. But it was clear that life had spilled away drop by drop. There was no one left here that would tell her what happened. They were all dead. Her hands shook as she pulled them away from the small brunette child. She stood as quickly as she could and wiped her hands on her pants. She had to leave before whatever had done this came back. She had to find her family.
She made for the horse as quickly as she could, untying it from the tree where she had left it. It seemed uneasy as she shifted it out from the bushes, moving back and forth nervously on it's hooves. "Shh, it's alright." She murmured, hoping that she was right and whatever it was had gone far from here.
She moved fast through the woods, towards home and her family. She couldn't remember the last time she had ridden a horse so recklessly. But desperate times...
Cody swung her leg down from her horse and landed on both feet, looking around at the small cabin in the wood. "Mag's?" She called out, hearing nothing but silence. "Calder? Hello? GRETTA?" Panic ran through her, turning her blood cold as she heard a small crack and crunch of twigs behind her someplace. "Hello?" She called out.
She turned and moved towards the sound, not worrying about what it might be. As she tore through the dense wood she saw the source; Gretta and Calder one in the others arms. Calder was bleeding, his face pale. "Cody! Cody he's bleeding... He's dying." Gretta sobbed, tears running down her face as she looked up from their brother, to Cody, her eyes pleading for anything. "He's..."
Cody ran towards her and kneeled down to them both. "Shh. Shh it's alright." She cooed, touching her brothers forehead. "What happened?" She asked, turning his head to the side. "What the hell is this?" Cody cringed, trying to hide her fear from her younger sister. But there was no helping it. His neck was torn open and she knew he wouldn't survive it. "Gods." She whispered, looking into his eyes.
"I'm such an idiot. It's all my fault." Gretta sobbed, leaning down into Calder, her hair swooping through the bloody mess.
"What happened? Gretta look at me and breathe." Cody sighed, lifting the girls eyes to her own. "Tell me. Now."
Her voice hitched as she tried hard to catch her breathe and look at her older sister. "It was Kol." It had been Kol and there was nothing anyone could have done to stop him. He killed them all. Calder had insisted that they stay until Cody came back... He knew she would. So he stayed after talking the others into leaving. But she didn't listen, she stayed behind.
"What do you mean it was Kol?" Cody asked confused. How could Kol do all this?
"Calder wanted to wait for you... He was so sure he could save you." She inhaled jaggedly, "But Kol showed up, but it wasn't Kol." She shook her head, "He looked like such a monster. He attacked us and I ran. I ran and I left Calder alone with him." She came back only to find him bleeding in the twigs.
"A monster?" Cody couldn't seem to understand. "What do you mean? What the hell happened Gretta!" She stammered, "He's dying! No more crying. Tell me right now."
Gretta froze, tears and all, "His teeth were different. And his eyes... They were black like the night." Her fingers trailed down under her eyes, showing a trail of little lines. "He bit him... Tore his neck open."
"If you ran then how did you see this? I don't understand Gretta."
"When I came back I saw from over there." She pointed off towards the house. "But I couldn't come out until he left. I was so afraid Cody... I was so afraid." She began to sob again.
"They will come back." Calder coughed, trying to turn his head. Blood came up with his breath.
"Don't speak." Cody told him softly, touching his hair. "Just... Don't speak."
"You have to run Cody. All of them... They'll come back." He began coughing again, this time it seemed almost painful as he leaned into her. "Run."
"Okay. We will run." Cody agreed, smiling to him as a tear fell down her own cheek. She gripped her dagger and slowly pulled it from her side. Gretta's eyes bugged when she noticed it but Cody slowly stroked their brothers hair and nodded to her sister. He was in pain... "We love you Calder. Always." She whispered, this time her own tears blinded her and she swiftly slid the blade up through his temple. The pain stopped then, leaving their brother's body behind.
"Cody." Gretta sobbed, "Cody he's gone."
"And now it's your turn." A cold familiar voice moved towards the two crying girls. "It's a shame really, I did really like you Cody." Finn's eyes were on Cody as he moved in a swift woosh towards them. But he stopped a few feet away.
"Finn." Cody said, pulling her and her sister up from the dirt. She moved Gretta behind her and held her knife out in front of them. "What is going on? Where is Niklaus? What happened?" She wasn't so sure she wanted to hear the answer but she needed to buy them as much time as she could. Not that she knew what she was going to do.
"Oh you know... He's off eating people. Mother was so angry..." He looked off towards the woods. "She did this to us you know."
"Esther.."
"I would really love to stand around and talk but you smell REALLY good. Why is that Cody, I wonder?" He asked her. He had been unable to contain the hunger he had felt... But Cody was something completely different. It was sweet... "But it won't matter soon enough will it?" He asked her.
He moved towards them faster then Cody had ever seen anyone move before. Her hands tingled and moved without her approval, light flying from her finger tips towards him. He flew through the air with a loud wail, hitting a nearby tree roughly. "CODY?! What was that?" Gretta gasped as she began moving back away from her own sister and the vampire.
"Stay with me." Cody scolded, moving back with her. Loud whooshing surrounded them as other Mikaelson faces began appearing around the two. Rebbekah, Kol, Niklaus. All the same eyes, all covered in blood. Without thinking Cody's hands began to tremble and she reached out, grabbing Gretta. "Cody stop!" Her sister yelled as a different whooshing surrounded them. A blinding light shone into their eyes and a searing pain racked their bodies. Then they both passed out in each others arms.
"Cody!" Gretta stammered, pushing on her sister's shoulders roughly. She had been doing so for about an hour but Cody just wouldn't wake up. "Please Cody!" She shook her sister a few more times. "Please."
Cody drifted in and out, blinking rapidly. "What?" She swatted her sister's hand from her face. "I'm sleeping! For the love of the Gods!" She grumbled, finally coming to.
"Somethings wrong Cody. Where are we?" She asked, confused by all the people standing around glaring at them. Their clothes were strange... Their hair was different and she couldn't figure out what the large shiny things moving so fast on rock were.
Cody stiffened, looking around them at the world she had left behind so long ago. She was back... She reached out, her hand landing on wet stone. She stumbled to her feet and looked around. "No..."
"Cody what is going on? Where are we?" Her sister asked her again. "Are we dead?"
"No it's Mystic Falls." Cody told her, eyes still searching. "It's the village Gretta."
"I don't understand." Gretta shook her head in confusion. "This is not our village Cody, these people are weird. Nothing is right here." She sighed loudly and grabbed her sister's shoulder again, "Tell me what is happening!"
"What do you want from me!" Cody snapped, pulling away once again, "That I move us forward in time? That this is where I am really from? That when you all found my in the woods I had just fallen asleep and ended up one thousand years in the past?!" Cody could feel her chest move up and down quickly. She wasn't angry with Gretta, just confused and sore from the journey. She had no idea what the hell had happened either. Just that she felt scared for them and they had just sort of... Gone poof.
"Ladies."
"What do you mean we moved forwards in time?" Gretta whispered angrily. "Are you insane?"
"Ladies."
"No I'm not insane. I know as much as you do!" Cody growled in return, ignoring the blonde woman who was now touching both girl's elbows.
"LADIES." Elizabeth Forbes smiled awkwardly at the by standers as she tried her best to stop the two strange girls from screaming at each other and drawing attention. Something was off with the two, as a council member she wasn't horribly surprised. But the people in Mystic Falls would have no idea what the hell was going on and she wanted to keep it that way. "Ladies please, come with me okay. We can talk about this someplace safe."
"Who are you? Why do you want to take us somewhere?" Gretta ran her hands up through her tangled, bloody hair.
"She's an officer. A law keeper." Cody explained. The two girls followed the Forbe's woman to a large white house. It hadn't been what Cody had expected of her. An officer taking them home with her seemed strange. But she shrugged it off in the hopes of solving whatever had happened. In the process she hoped people weren't still looking for her here. She hadn't exactly left this time on good terms with her foster family.
