Yuzuki wandered through the busy streets with Ruka. There were a lot of shops that caught her attention, but none of them had anything she wanted to buy. Takuma's birthday was quickly approaching and she hadn't gotten him anything yet. Now she is going through town to find something for him. Ruka hadn't gotten him a birthday gift either so she was going with her.
Yuzuki looked at Ruka, who was looking at the different shops boredly. She looked down sheepishly to the floor. It wasn't exactly their idea to go with each other. Kaname didn't want her to go alone.
Yuzuki sighed. They weren't having much fun together. They haven't even spoken much to each other. A little bookstore caught Yuzuki's eye and she suddenly remembered that Takuma likes manga and mystery books. She grinned excitedly and grabbed Ruka's hand.
Ruka's eyes widened in surprise at their connecting hands and up to Yuzuki's beaming face. Yuzuki said, "There is a bookstore! Let us see what we can find there."
They quickly entered the shop and immediately started looking around their surroundings when they entered. The store was brightly lit and full of many colors from the covers of books. Ruka began to tour around the store, stopping every once in a while to look at a book. Yuzuki began looking around also. She stopped at the manga section first, knowing Takuma's hobby was reading manga.
Her eyes scanned over the titles until it landed on MeruPuri by Hino Matsuri. She faintly recalled Takuma complaining about only having the first volume. She smiled fondly at the memory and pulled the last three volumes of the series. When she approached the cash register, Ruka was still looking over some books. After paying for the books, Yuzuki sat down on a small couch in the corner and picked up a magazine from the table in front of her.
Her face was plastered on the front page. Yuzuki blushed and remembered that she had a photo shoot earlier that month for the magazine. It was a close up of her face. Her half-closed eyes looked at the oval-shaped perfume in her hands. Her hands held the bottle near her lips. The makeup artists had added too much blush on her face that her face looked like it was glowing with pink.
She admired how the picture turned out. A shadow loomed over Yuzuki and she looked up from the magazine. Ruka stood there with a bag from the store, indicating that Ruka had bought something.
"Yuzuki-sama, we should be heading back now."
"Ah, ok!"
Yuzuki and Ruka headed out the door and was bombarded with a human girl their age.
"Kyaa! It's White Carnation! She's here!"
Yuzuki's fan squealed some more and looked extremely happy. Yuzuki smiled at her and said, "I would appreciate it if you did not tell anyone else."
"Of course! Of course! Can I get a picture with you?"
"Umm…"
Yuzuki looked over at Ruka, who simply shrugged. Yuzuki looked back at the fan and nodded, but suggested, "Can my friend be in the picture too?"
The fan looked at her friend and blushed. The fan didn't notice the beautiful woman standing next to Yuzuki. She quickly agreed.
Ruka looked surprised and tried to move away, but Yuzuki didn't let Ruka's arm go. The three girls stepped close together for a photo taken by the fan with her arm outstretched holding her phone.
On their way back to the academy, Yuzuki asked Ruka, "Taking pictures together was fun, right?"
Ruka nodded slightly. She blushed a little when she remembered that Yuzuki had referred to her as her friend. It both surprised and pleased Ruka.
Yuzuki sat in her room, staring at the manga she bought for Takuma. She didn't know how to wrap the present for him. She sighed in defeat, but perked up when she heard the footsteps of the maid of the Moon Dormitory. Yuzuki gathered the books in her hands and stepped out of her room.
The maid stopped in her tracks and asked, "Is there anything you need, Kuran-sama?"
Yuzuki smiled. "Yes, could you please gift wrap these books? I need it back before tonight."
"Of course."
"Thank you so much."
Yuzuki handed the maid the books before going back into her room. She strolled across her room to her bed. She fell back onto her bed and relaxed. She cuddled with Suzuki-san, her teddy bear, and closed her eyes. Her thoughts wandered to the party Takuma was hosting that night. He said earlier that Yuuki and Zero will be joining. Yuzuki felt both happy and worried. She felt happy because she will get to see Yuuki, but worried because it'll give Yuuki and Kaname more time to be with each other.
She had grown up to be selfless and kind-hearted. She could give up everything for Kaname, but could she give up her own heart? Could she give up her future with him? Could she give up the man that she loves?
Yuzuki thought, "Could I give up my happiness?"
Tears bubbled at the corners of her eyes. She loves the both Yuuki and Kaname so much. The both of them are her life. Of course she would want for them to be happy, but at the cost of her heart? She didn't know. Sobs wracked through her body. Her face was buried in Suzuki-san to muffle the noise. Her heart throbbed. It hurt so bad. Kaname had never said that he loved Yuuki out loud. The small gestures of affection and soft looks towards Yuuki had also been directed at her too. She couldn't tell if they were looks of love for a younger sister. Was there any difference between her and Yuuki?
Yuzuki wanted to be selfish and possessive. She wanted Kaname's attention and affection to be only directed at her. She wanted to be loved by Kaname. She already knew she had some affection, but she wanted a different kind of affection. She wanted Kaname's love.
Her sobs stopped when she heard a knock on her door. She scrambled to wipe away her tears while moving towards the door. She gently opened the door and peered up to see who it was. Her eyes widened before composing herself. She smiled brightly.
"Kaname!"
Kaname smiled warmly down at her and brushed a stray tear on her cheek. "What is wrong, Yuzuki?"
Yuzuki froze in surprise and jerked back. "It is nothing! I just remembered about a sad story."
Kaname frowned. "What was it about?"
Yuzuki panicked. "It was…. It was about a…. dog! It was about a dog trying to find his owner!"
"Is that so?"
Kaname stepped forward, making Yuzuki step back. This continued until the back of Yuzuki's knees hit the sofa, making her fall back onto the sofa. Kaname loomed over her. He leaned down until their faces were only inches apart. He whispered, "I dearly hope that you are not lying to me, Yuzuki. It would make sad."
Yuzuki trembled. She couldn't lie to him. She loved him too much to lie to him. Drops of tears fell one by one down her cheek. Kaname hugged her close to him tightly, as if he was afraid she would disappear if he let go. Her tears fell more freely and more frequently. Even if he didn't know the reason she was crying, he hoped to be of some comfort to her. Yuzuki concluded in her heart; if Yuuki and Kaname were happy together, then she would have to let him go.
Yuzuki's hair flowed through the air as her body danced through the waltz with Takuma as her partner.
Time passed during the time she cried and they both stayed close after that until the party began. Yuzuki had reluctantly pulled away from Kaname and asked him to go get ready for the party. She slipped into a cream-colored dress that fell to her knees. There were small colorful flowers embroidery decorating the bottom of her dress and the straps. She picked up his wrapped present before entering the courtyard where the party was taking place.
Takuma smiled down at Yuzuki, who in return smiled back. There were other people dancing with them, but most just chatted with each other at the side lines. Takuma had asked her to dance the moment the party had started.
After the dance ended, she walked over to Rima and Senri, who were by the food table. She asked, "Did you eat anything good?"
Senri and Rima eyed the table. Rima answered, "There were some great desserts. I think you'll like them."
Yuzuki's eyes sparkled. "Really? Rima, please show me!"
Yuzuki picked up a piece of everything Rima pointed out. Senri surveyed the party. He noticed Takuma talking with Akatsuki and Hanabusa. Probably to escort Kiryu and Cross in, Senri thought. Senri turned back to Yuzuki and Rima and noticed that Yuzuki had a lot of plates with desserts in each of them. He sweat dropped.
"Are you able to eat all of that?"
Yuzuki pondered on the question while looking at the plates. "I am sure that I can!"
"…."
All the vampire in the courtyard became more alert. They looked over to see what the fuss was about. Yuzuki's face was graced with a smile. Hanabusa and Akatsuki were leading Yuuki and Zero into the Moon Dormitory's courtyard.
Senri commented, "Look at that, they came…"
Rima questioned, "But what for?"
There was a vampire who took out some knives when they approached. Yuzuki frowned in their direction and the vampire tucked it away when his friend asked him to. All eyes were on them as they were lead to Takuma.
"Welcome, Yuuki, Zero," Takuma said with a dazzling smile. "I'm having my birthday party tonight. Please have fun."
Yuzuki walked over to Takuma's side. Yuuki said, "Oh, we didn't come here to play. I wanted to hear about what happened today."
Yuzuki's brows furrowed in confusion as Takuma sighed.
Yuuki asked, "I want to know why you thought it was okay to destroy that Level E? I mean, he's a vampire just like you are!"
Yuzuki's eyebrows rested. Now she understood. Takuma and Senri were out hunting a Level E earlier that day and Yuuki probably ended up seeing that.
Hanabusa shrugged as he approached the food table. "We are not the same as them at all."
Takuma turned back to Yuuki with a glass of artificial blood and juice. "Yuuki, you must understand that the vampire society is ruled by entirely of a few Purebloods and a handful of aristocrats. Everyone in the Night Class is ranked noble or higher."
Takuma handed Yuuki the glass of juice and explained, "Below that is the average vampire. And below them are vampire who were once human."
Senri continued, "And those who don't even make the ranks are known as Level E."
"The vampires who were once human lose their will little by little ultimately degenerate into Level E," Yuzuki said, her voice sad.
"The E stands for the END, complete degeneration and destruction," Takuma concluded.
Hanabusa pompously bragged, "We are totally different from vampires who were once human. Please don't lump us together."
Yuuki strongly talked back, "Why do you have to look down on them? None of them wanted to become a Level E. It was your kind that -"
Takuma interrupted her. "Exactly. And that's why we must oversee them. Before they hunger for blood and grab the nearest person they can find."
"I ordered it."
Everyone turned to look up at Kaname, who finally appeared at the party. "I told Takuma and Shiki to hunt down that Level E today."
"You did, Kaname-senpai?"
"Yuuki, I'm surprised that you would come to such a dangerous place simply because Takuma told you to."
"I wanted to confirm it for myself."
"For yourself, huh? Come over here, Yuuki, Zero."
As Yuuki and Zero approached, Kaname said, "Yuuki, sit beside me."
"Huh?"
"It's alright."
Yuuki hesitated before answering, "It's alright. I don't need to."
"Yuuki…"
"Okay."
Yuuki swiftly sat beside Kaname on the sofa. She sat perfectly straight until Kaname pulled her side closer to him. "Next to me is the safest place."
Yuzuki couldn't help, but feel jealous. Even though she and Kaname were closer than he and Yuuki were earlier, she didn't want to see that. Kaname explained that vampires who were once human were created for a war between vampires and vampire hunters and that the aristocrat's duty was to oversee them and that includes killing the Level E. Zero interrupted by saying that it was the vampire hunters' job to slay the Level E, not the vampires'.
Kaname asked, "Then why did you not kill that Level E first?"
Fearing that something might start happening, Yuzuki made her way to Kaname side. Just in time for her to see Kaname kissing Yuuki's injury.
Kaname chided, "Did you, perhaps, sympathize with him, Kiryu?"
In a split second, Zero whipped out his gun and pointed it at Kaname. Yuzuki immediately stood in front of the gun and Seiren, who was standing at the sides, had a hand at Zero's neck. Everyone gasped.
"Yuzuki, Seiren, it is alright. I'm the one who said something I shouldn't have," Kaname said.
Hanabusa declared, "How dare he to point a gun at Kaname-sama and to not even put it down when Yuzuki-sama was in the way. Tearing you apart limb by limb is too good a punishment. However, I won't do that. As long as we're here in this academy, I don't want to shatter Headmaster Cross's ideals of peace. But never forget, we vampires are here solely due to the presence of the Purebloods, Kaname-sama and Yuzuki-sama."
Yuuki asked, "You are Purebloods, Kaname-senpai? Yuzuki-chan?"
Yuzuki nodded with a slight smile. Kaname answered, "Your expression tells me it is the first time you have heard this, Yuuki. Are you afraid?"
Yuuki looked surprised at his question. "To tell you the truth, I've always been a bit afraid of you, Kaname-senpai. Even now, just a little bit. But I'm not of you, Yuzuki-chan!"
Yuzuki smiled warmly. "I'm happy, Yuuki-chan. I am glad that you are not afraid of me. I would never try to do anything to hurt you."
Takuma clapped his hands, which drew everyone's attention to him. "Hello! Please don't forget, everyone. It's my birthday today! Celebrate me, please. Yuuki and Zero are my special guests."
Everyone relaxed and went back to enjoy the party. Yuzuki gathered up her courage and asked Kaname, "Can I ask you for a dance, onii-sama?"
Kaname smiled, making Yuzuki hopeful. "I would love to, but I have to keep Yuuki company."
Her heart sunk deep down. "Oh…"
Yuuki panicked. "Oh no! It's okay, Kaname-senpai! Please go dance!"
Kaname glanced at Yuuki. "Only if you are sure."
"Of course! I'll be fine."
Kaname stood up and bowed to Yuzuki, making her blush. "May I have this dance?"
Yuzuki brightened and nodded. "Yes please!"
Kaname grabbed her hand and descended the stairs. Once the reached the bottom, Kaname pulled Yuzuki close, his left hand with Yuzuki's right hand and his right hand below her left shoulder blade. Once they were in position, they immediately moved to the music. There was nothing else that could make Yuzuki more happy than she is. Yuzuki smiled at Kaname and he smiled back, making her smile more bright.
They were a sight to behold. Some vampires thought that they made a beautiful couple, even Yuuki thought that they did too. Strangely, Yuuki didn't feel a lot of jealousy directed at Yuzuki. Was it because Yuzuki was only Kaname's sister?
Over at the food table, Takuma asked Senri, "Would you like to cut the cake?"
"Sure. Hold the cake for me, Takuma."
Senri swiftly pulled the knife from Takuma's hands, creating a cut on his finger.
"You cut me…"
"I'm sorry… What a waste."
Senri grabbed Takuma's hand and bent down. He licked along the cut, getting as much blood as he can.
Takuma complained, "Senri, I have no intention of serving myself."
Zero covered the bottom half of his face and ran away. Yuuki immediately ran after him. She excused herself to Kaname when she passed by him. Hanabusa grabbed Yuuki's arm and asked her to dance. Yuuki denied and ran away after Zero. Kaname and Yuzuki had stopped dancing when Yuuki ran down the stairs. Yuzuki looked up at Kaname.
"Kaname, is it okay for her to go after him?"
Kaname smiled to reassure Yuzuki. He brushed some strands of hair back from her face. "It is fine. There is nothing to worry about."
Yuzuki looked down, still worried about Yuuki and Zero. Kaname asked her, "Do you still want to dance?"
Yuzuki's head snapped up. "Yes!"
