Not long after Kyra leaves home, Brian starts the process of moving into his new house. Since Brian helped to take care of her when she had the flu, Reba feels obligated to help him move his stuff into the new house.
"What's going to happen to the cabin?" Reba asks as she lifts a box out of Brian's truck.
"I'm gonna still keep it. I'll probably use it when I feel like getting out of the city for a while."
"I don't want to pry, but are you sure you can afford it."
"Don't worry about that, the next documentary I'm doing will pay off big time."
"Next documentary?" Reba asks confused. "You didn't tell me about any documentary coming up."
"I just got the call a week ago; a producer wants me to film a documentary about Italian culture."
"Really?" Reba says in a mildly sad tone. "In Italy?"
Brian nods.
"How long will you be gone?"
Brian sets down his box in the living room of the new house and turns his focus on to Reba, "I'll be gone for a little over 6 months."
Reba's jaw drops, "6 months? When do you leave?"
"I leave in a couple weeks."
Reba and Brian walk over to the plastic covered couch to sit down, "Two weeks?"
"Yes." Brian can see the sadness in Reba's eyes, and puts his arm around her to pull her closer to him.
"I'll sure miss you." Reba says as she snuggles him. "Make sure you call me when you get there."
"I won't need to."
Reba pauses, and looks up at him with a confused expression on her face. "Why not?"
"Why would I call you when you're coming with me?"
"… What?"
"I bought the tickets, so you better start packing."
Reba stands up and looks down at him, "I can't just leave my family, Brian. Not for 6 months."
Brian stands up, puts his hands on her shoulders and looks deep into her eyes, "You said yourself that sometimes you wish you could run away. It would be 6 months, just you and me together in Italy. Please come with me."
Reba steps away from Brian, "I don't know, it's such a long time, I don't know if I could be away from my family that long."
"Okay, why don't I give you some time to talk it over with your family?"
"Alright." Reba says. They both go back outside and continue to unload boxes from the truck.
"Brock, we need to have a family conference immediately!" Reba says over the phone.
"Why?"
"I need to announce something. Can you get the whole family over here at 6 tonight?"
"Sure Reba, whatever you want."
"Okay thanks. I've got to go to work, I'll see you later."
"See you."
Reba got home and was met with everyone chatting in the living room.
"Mom, you're home," Cheyenne greats, "What is it you wanted to announce that was so important?"
Reba took a breath and went for it, "What do you think of me going to Italy with Brian for six months?"
The house went silent.
"Italy?" Brock asks.
"Six months is a really long time, Mrs. H." says Van.
"I know."
"But you've always wanted to go to Italy," Cheyenne adds.
"How did this happen?" Kyra asks.
"Brian has to go and film a documentary and thinks it would be nice if I could go along and keep him company."
"If you want to go, you should do it." Jake chimes in. "I could move in with dad while you're gone."
"Would that be alright, Brock?" Reba asks.
"That would be great, then we could have a lot of quality time together."
"So you all think I should go then?"
"If that's what you want," says Kyra.
"Okay, then it's settled. I'll call Brian." Reba proceeds to go upstairs and closes her bedroom door. She sits on her bed and puts her head in her hands, still uncertain of whether to go or not. The kids seemed to be fine with the idea, and she did need time for herself for a change. Reba stands back up, walks over to her phone, and dials Brian's number.
"Hello?" Brian answers.
"Hey Brian, this is Reba."
"Did you talk the trip over with your kids?"
"Yes I did."
"… And?"
"I'm in."
