Okay, so some of you didn't quite like this last chapter, so let me defend it by addressing some issues. I had Aiden and Glen have play a small part in the fight for a reason; I wanted the fight to show how much Spencer cares about Ashley by protecting her from Jason. If Glen or Aiden played a bigger part, it wouldn't have given off the image that I wanted for Spencer. That's also the reason why I didn't involve bouncers. But as many of you have said, yeah, Jason is an asshole.
Thanks for all the reviews. Keep 'em coming- they really give me constructive criticism, and that helps the story.
Ashley's POV
After four hours, we were finally able to see Spencer. Glen literally ran down the hall, with Chelsea not far behind him. Madison, Aiden, and I walked slowly there so the other two can have alone time with her. As badly as I wanted to see her, I know that Glen and Chelsea have every right to see her first; they are, after all, her brother and her best friend.
When we finally get to her room, I stop dead, feeling my heart sink. Spencer's laying in her hospital bed, unconscious. Her face is different shades of black and blue and purple. There's a deep gash under her swollen left eye. A long cut follows her jawline. From what the doctors told us, they had to reconstruct her left cheekbone, and that she had two broken ribs. Spencer also had a concussion that was serious enough that they had to do numerous tests to make sure there was no internal bleeding in her brain.
I tentatively step further into the room. Glen is sitting right next to Spencer, pushing her hair out of her face. Chelsea is on the other side of the bed, tears streaming down her face while holding Spencer's hand. I walk to the foot of the bed and feel tears well up in my own eyes. I'm not really the emotional type, but it's my fault Spencer is hurt. I knew I should have left Grey as soon as I saw her and Jason. I shouldn't have let her gotten in between me and that asshole. I will make sure my horrible ex gets what is coming to him.
We all settle in to wait for Spencer to wake up. After a long three hours, she starts stirring. The five of us close in around her bed. Her eyes flutter open as she let out a low moan, turning her head to look around.
"Spencer? Baby sis?" Glen leans forward.
She looks at him with her right eye, as her left one is completely swelled shut. "Where...am I?"
"You're in the hospital, Honey," Chelsea whispers.
"Why?" Spencer attempts to sit up, but curses as pained look flashes across her beaten face. "What happened?"
"We were at the club, Spence, and you got into a fight with Jason, Ashley's ex-boyfriend." Glen replies softly.
Spencer slowly turns her head to look at me and I feel a big wave of guilt hit me. I look down at my feet so I wouldn't have to see the accusation on her face
"Ash-ley?" Spencer says with a raspy, dry voice.
I tear my eyes away from the ground and slowly look up at her. When I finally look at her, I only see that she looks concerned.
"How are you feeling, Spence?" I ask quietly.
"Like shit." Despite the fact that she was clearly in pain, she tried to joke around, with the ghost of a smirk playing on her lips. "I have a question."
"Yeah, baby sis?"
"Despite the fact that I got my ass kicked by Jason, did I at least put up a good fight?" At this, everyone smiles and laughs a little, not realizing that we were all holding our breath.
"Yeah Spence, you got in a few good punches," Aiden says, letting out a throaty chuckle.
"Good." At that, her nurse and doctor come into the room, telling us that we need to leave so Spencer can get some rest. Glen raises hell at this, and they end up deciding that he and Chelsea can stay. Madison, Aiden, and I have to leave though, and even though Spencer is my fake girlfriend, I can't help but feel like I should get to stay too. I feel horrible, and I really care about her. I want to stay and take care of her. I want to protect her like she protected me. I want to be there when she wakes up again.
I admit defeat and go home. I try going to bed, as it is really early in the morning. However, I toss and turn for a couple hours before I give up and go into my living room. I try to distract myself by watching crappy TV shows, and then by working on a couple songs that I've started, but nothing can hold my attention.
Finally, at 10 in the morning, I head back to the hospital. I'm walking down the hall leading to her room, when I see Glen locked in a heated discussion with an older blonde, that looked a lot like him and Spencer. I stop and stay back, to give Glen and who I assume is his mother, some privacy, but their voices carry down the hall.
"...why she was in that fight. The three of you shouldn't have been there."
"I told you, Mom, we went there for a couple drinks, and we ran into Spencer's friend. We were invited to hang out with them, and then Ashley, Spencer's friend, well her ex showed up and caused trouble. You know how Spencer is. She wanted to stick up for Ashley."
"Well clearly Spencer needs help picking out friends. Ones that do not have trashy exes."
"She does not need help picking out friends, Mom. And don't go causing trouble for her. She's not in any condition to hear you lecture her and give her shit like you always do."
Spencer's mom looks beyond pissed at this and before things turn ugly, I decide to step forward. Clearing my throat, I make my presence known to the two blondes.
"Um, hi. How is Spencer doing, Glen?"
Glen's shoulders sag and says, "She's still asleep, but she's in stable condition.
"Thank God," I mumble out.
"Who are you?" The older blonde asks bluntly.
"I-I'm Ashley Davies, ma'am."
Spencer's mom looks at me with a disapproving sneer and straightens her back. "I'm Paula Carlin, Glen and Spencer's mother. You must be the girl that caused this mess.
"Mom!" Glen says furiously. "This is not Ashley's fault. She had no control over that jackass!"
"Hmph." She gives me another disapproving look before turning to Glen. "I will be back in a little bit. I am going to talk to Spencer's doctors and then," she turns back to me, jabbing her finger hard into my chest, "You and I are going to talk."
Fuck.
