Chapter 11 – The Parole Officer

"It's ok honey; there are obviously better people out there for you." Piper said, trying to comfort Phoebe.

"I know Piper but I really thought he was the one." Phoebe sniffed in reply. It was Paige's turn to talk.

"Well, at least he had the decency to turn up and tell you rather than just not turn up." Paige insisted. She was still angry at how she had been stood up by her date that she hadn't even wanted to go out with.

"Paige." Piper said, thinking that her younger sister wasn't helping Phoebe feel better. However, Phoebe let out a small hicccupy-giggle and half-heartedly smiled.

"I know Paigey; I guess Prue was right; the male species really aren't worth the trouble." Phoebe said. Piper, Phoebe and Paige had all returned to the Manor after their bad mornings and they were all comforting Phoebe because hers seemed to have been the worse. There was a knock at the front door.

"I'll get it," Phoebe volunteered, standing up and heading towards the front door. She opened it and was surprised to see Pixie being held by the arm by a cop.

"Er…" Phoebe started, speechless. She had no idea what to say. She had always been the one being held by the cop but now the roles had been reversed: she was the adult in the situation.

"Miss Halliwell?" the officer asked.

"Yes?" Phoebe replied.

"May I come in?" he asked.

"Sure." Phoebe said, moving out of the way so he could get in the house. Pixie followed him and Phoebe stared at her.

I didn't do anything! Phoebe heard Pixie say in her head. Don't even try Pixie. Phoebe thought angrily in reply.

"If you just go straight through that door, my sisters are there," Phoebe explained. He nodded and went in. Pixie didn't move. "You too Pixie!" Phoebe commanded, giving Pixie a little shove towards the door. Pixie turned round and looked at Phoebe. Phoebe ignored her and went upstairs. She really wasn't in the mood to deal with whatever Pixie had done.

"My name is Henry Mitchell," he started saying to a confused looking Piper and Paige, "I am the parole officer of Erika Crossley and it seems that your sister has got into a fight with Miss Crossley for no apparent reason in her uncle's café," Henry explained.

"She started it!" Pixie shouted, outraged.

"Pixie! Zip it!" Piper snapped angrily, "I'm going to make some tea. Does anyone want tea? Pixie come with me into the kitchen." Piper ordered. Pixie looked worried but followed Piper into the kitchen all the same. She was just thankful Prue wasn't here to deal with her. Yet.

"What on Earth do you think you were doing? Are you absolutely out of your mind?" Piper yelled once they had got to the kitchen.

"It wasn't my fault!" Pixie insisted. "She started it!"

"Oh really? Prue is going to be so pissed off when she gets home!" Piper shouted.

"Why do I care? She's always pissed off with me, no matter what I do!" Pixie shouted in reply.

"Pixie, you got arrested!" Piper yelled.

"No I didn't! I got a free ride home. And anyway, Phoebe always used to get arrested!" Pixie said. She didn't really know why she had brought Phoebe up. It wouldn't help her case, Prue was always so mad at Phoebe after a cop had brought her home. Piper was right: Prue was going to be pissed off.

"What were you even doing out of school?" Piper snapped.

"I had to leave. Everyone's problems and thoughts were in my head, I couldn't get away from them and it felt like my head was exploding!" Pixie explained, hoping maybe this would help.

So Leo had been right, Pixie wasn't at school. And it was because she couldn't control her powers. Paige really needed to help her.

After Henry had explained everything that he had been told by Erika and her uncle, Paige was furious.

"So, you're telling me that it was just Pixie and this criminal girl in the café and then they got into a fight, the criminal girl's uncle came out to see what was wrong and the criminal girl told her uncle that it was all Pixie?" Paige asked, making sure she emphasised each and every one of the 'criminals' she said.

"Yes. And she's not a criminal." Henry said.

"If she's not a criminal why does she have a parole officer?" Paige pointed out.

"That information is strictly confidential." Henry replied.

"It's a biased account of what happened! If there were no witnesses, apart from the uncle that came in after it had happened, how do you know it's true? He's related to her for crying out loud!" Paige said, trying to get her point across.

"It happened, ok? And speaking of relations, where are your parents? I need to talk to them about what will happen with Pixie." Henry said.

"They're dead." Paige said bluntly.

"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss." Henry said sadly. He didn't know why he was so upset by this information. A lot of his parolees were orphans so really, Pixie and Paige shouldn't have been any different to them. But for some reason, Henry felt much worse for Paige than he usually did for people with no parents.

"Thanks."

"I think, given the circumstances, that it would be best if Pixie got a parole officer." He suggested, giving her his card. Paige looked at it in disgust and stuffed it in her pocket.

"Do you now? Well, I don't agree with you and you have no right to tell us how to look after our sister." Paige said.

"Maybe I should talk to Pixie's legal guardian because I'm guessing you aren't. Do you have a grandparent? Or an aunt or uncle?" Henry asked.

"Our grandmother looked after Pixie until 2 years ago when she passed away. Pixie was then taken into care by social services because they thought we couldn't cope with looking after her. Pixie only came home on Saturday and as you can tell, we just need to get used to her being around again. Prue, our eldest sister is Pixie's guardian." Paige explained, angrily.

"Ok." Henry said. "Is she here?" As if by magic, Prue walked through the door. She came straight into the living room, just as Piper and Pixie came through as well.

"What the hell is going on in here?" she screamed, taking everything in. Her day had already been bad enough, what with being questioned by Andy and almost telling him their secret. she didn't think she could deal with this as well.

"I take it you're Prue Halliwell?" Henry asked quite calmly.

"Who wants to know?" Prue snapped. She was surprised at herself; usually she wouldn't talk to anyone, especially not a cop in that way but he didn't seem fazed.

"Henry Mitchell. I'm sure your sisters will explain what has happened." he said and left, leaving Prue extremely frazzled and confused.

"So, anyone want to explain?" she said through clenched teeth.

After Piper had explained what had happened with small additions from Paige and silence from Pixie, Prue was furious. She stared at Pixie, not knowing exactly what to say.

"What is wrong with you Pixie? You seem to be out of control." Prue decided on.

"It wasn't my fault! I didn't start it." Pixie insisted, once again.

"I don't care who started it Pixie! As far as I'm concerned, you were involved so you're to blame." Prue replied.

"That is so not fair!" Pixie yelled.

"Life isn't fair. And what the hell were you doing out of school?" Prue yelled back.

"I can't control my stupid powers! Everyone has too many problems!" Pixie shouted.

"That is not an excuse for missing school young lady, you're grounded again!" Prue said.

"Until when?" Pixie whispered, sensing that her and Prue's shouting match was almost over.

"Until I say so," Prue replied, "Go to your room."

"Fine!" Pixie shouted. She calmly made her way up to her room and slammed her door as loudly as she could behind her.
