"No shit, you two really did it?"
"Yes," AJ whispered like it was some sort of big secret, but it wasn't. She was sure by the end of the night everyone was going to know about her and Dolph. That's the way things worked around here, and honestly, she didn't want to keep it a secret, but for right now, this felt like something that should be whispered.
"I can't believe it, I really didn't think you would ever confess to him."
"I didn't necessarily confess," AJ said, "but I did kind of come onto him, I mean, just sort of."
"I don't picture you as the type that's going to sneak into his room wearing lingerie and sit at the top of his bed," Kaitlyn even laughed at the image that presented. AJ laughed at the image that presented. She wasn't that type of girl, but it might be fun not to be that type of girl at some point.
"I've never bought lingerie," AJ admitted, "like I have nice underwear, but like the whole corset, garter, lacy see-thru stuff with crotchless panties, never done that, but you know, maybe one day."
"Eww," Kaitlyn joked, "didn't need to know that, so you came onto him, wow, that means you have it bad, AJ, so bad that you were willing to make the first move."
It was something she'd never been comfortable with doing, but she couldn't imagine there were tons of women who were bold enough to make that first move. With her two serious boyfriends in the past, they came up to her asking her out. With Jay, it was nice, and he was sweet, but in the end, they'd just grown apart. With Trent, he'd made a strong push with her, pretty much wearing her down until she said yes, which was funny since he cheated on her in the end.
With Dolph, it felt natural just making that move, as nerve-wracking as it was beforehand. This time, she knew what she wanted though, and the close proximity to him was intoxicating to say the least. Dolph's presence was mesmerizing, and she especially loved the way he made her feel. She never felt inferior to him, but always, always, on a level playing field. She liked that feeling. She liked feeling that around him.
"I just, I don't know, we were in the same house, and he was like two doors down from me, and sleeping, and I've seen him sleeping before—"
"Whoa, when did you see that?"
"In the car, when E's been driving when we have to do late night trips," she told her best friend, "they don't make me drive, so when one drives, the other usually sleeps, and I've seen him, and he's cute, and I kept thinking about that, and I don't know, I just kind of went to his room and lied so I could get in his bed."
Kaitlyn whistled, and AJ scrunched her face up, "I'm kidding, I'm kidding."
"It wasn't like that, not that I didn't want it to be that, I kind of did, but he was still the gentleman, you know, like, he never pushes, you'd think he would given the reputation he has, but he didn't, it was all so innocent."
"Until you turned it dirty," Kaitlyn prodded her along.
"No, the guy still didn't get it, damn that chivalry," AJ joked, "then at breakfast, his mom thought we were together because we were in the same room, and she kind of let it slip that Dolph had feelings for me, so he ran out of there."
"Dolph ran away? He didn't even do anything suave or slick?" Kaitlyn really needed to get to know Dolph more because AJ was shattering any ideas she had of him.
"No, he was so embarrassed that he ran upstairs and took like an hour shower, or pretended to or something because he didn't want to face me, but when he did face me, that's when things all just kind of poured out."
"Good, I'm glad," Kaitlyn said, "I think you two will be good together, he's…a lot more different than I thought he was. I'm impressed by how he's treated you. I didn't realize he was such a good guy."
"Neither did I, and I'm regretting all those preconceived notions of him, oh, and by the way, do you want to start traveling with us and E?" AJ said. "E brought it up because he doesn't want to be the third wheel, he thought he was being slick, but I think he feels like the odd man out, so…"
"Yeah, sure, I'd love to."
"Good, now Dolph and I can make out, and you two won't mind," AJ giggled, sticking her tongue out as Kaitlyn scowls and pushes her on the shoulder. "I'm joking, sort of, I don't know, maybe we'll be like that."
"AJ, your man is here!" Natalya called out teasingly, and AJ had to wonder if Nattie already knew about them. It really hadn't been that long! AJ shrugged her right shoulder at Kaitlyn before she stood up and skipped over to the door.
"Hey, sorry, didn't know if I was bothering you," Dolph said, glancing around the women's locker room lecherously. When his eyes focused back on AJ, she was glaring at him with her arms folded under her breasts. "Sorry, it was like getting to take a peek into the ark of the covenant."
"Your face didn't melt off."
"I closed my eyes," he told her, "I just wanted to know if you were ready because I was going to go over our match later, and I needed to tell the opposition about our little stunt before the match."
"Yeah, sure, just one more thing," she looked behind her and saw that all the girls were right there, and while they weren't all looking at her, she figured this was the best way to just get it out in the open. She turned back to Dolph, grabbed him by the back of the neck and kissed him deeply.
He had no objections about this as he kissed her back, lightly putting his hands on her waist before she pulled away, leaving him panting, "What the hell was that?" he wondered, opening his eyes. She gazed up at the hazy blue of them.
"I was just getting it out there, instead of the gossip, there it is," she told him, turning back to the girls and waving at all their shocked faces. As soon as she stepped through the door, she could hear the tittering and whispering of all the divas behind her. She bit her lip and knew that by the end of the night, everyone would definitely know.
"That was insane," Dolph told her, grabbing her hand.
"I figured we just announce it instead of just letting everyone speculate," AJ told him. "I have nothing to hide being with you, so why not, right?"
"Cool," Dolph said, loving this side of his girlfriend. He never knew her to be so bold, but he liked it a lot. She was so confident, and she held herself in a way that told the world she didn't care what they thought of her because she liked herself. "You're amazing."
"Oh, come on, you say that to all the girls you're going to fake propose to."
"I do, really, I figure it loosens them up before I lower the boom," he kissed her temple. "My mom is going to freak out."
"I can't wait."
After going over the match with Dolph's opponent for the evening, Kofi, they went off in search of a small corner to hide themselves in and talk. This relationship was still new, and while they already knew a lot about each other, there was still so much to learn, and he wanted to learn it all. She was fascinating, and so different from him, that learning about her felt exciting.
"So what's your favorite food?" he asked, as they cuddled up against a wall in a quiet part of the arena, unseen from any prying eyes.
"Pizza, easy, yours?"
"Chicken wings with extra ranch."
"Weirdo," she laughed, but snuggled into him further. They were just about to talk some more when Dolph's phone buzzed with a new text. He made no move to check it though and AJ stared at him. "You're not going to check that?"
"No, I'm with you, why check something when I know it's not you."
"It's probably your mom saying she's here with your family," she reminded him. He shrugged like he didn't care. "Your mom will want to see you though. And isn't your aunt and cousins coming too, and like, aren't they young and would love to come backstage?"
"Maybe," he said, tucking some of her hair behind her ear and staring into her eyes.
"You can't sit here all night."
"Sure I can."
"No, you can't, and your mom is probably going to text you again," AJ said just as his phone buzzed again. "See, that's her. We'll have tons of time together, Dolph, you can answer your phone."
"Nah," he told her again, giving her a cheeky smile. She rolled her eyes and reached over and into his pocket, "AJ Lee!" He gasped and pretended like he was scandalized by her forward behavior.
"Shut up," she told him as she pulled his phone out. After getting his code, she unlocked it and went to his messages. "Are you sure it's okay for me to look? I mean, all your other girlfriends will have to go poof soon, and will you be able to handle that?"
"Yes, all of them, all zero of them," he scoffed, "I don't care if you look, I have nothing to hide. Actually, if you could hand that back to me so I can delete the pictures of me dressed up like Britney Spears…"
"Liar," she teased as she looked through the messages. "Yeah, it says your mom is here, and she said that we need to stop making out long enough to come see them. Wow, she sure has you pegged."
"Says the woman who kissed me," Dolph reminded her.
"Impulse," she said, starting to stand up, but he pulled her back down and kissed her. She let herself fall into it, forgetting momentarily that his entire family was here, and they were waiting for him. Even though she'd been kissing Dolph for months, these were new and fresh, and they felt different. She moaned softly, knowing somewhere deep in her mind that she was getting carried away, and yet, she didn't care.
Finally, Dolph pulled away, "Family, right?"
"Whose family?" she joked with a satisfied sigh. "I don't think I can focus."
"Even with a looming proposal coming straight your way?"
She suddenly remembered all of that, and despite herself, she almost wanted a real proposal. That thought shocked her because that would mean commitment and marriage and a lifetime, and she could count the number of hours she'd been with Dolph on her hands. She was just getting swept up in the feeling of a new relationship, she convinced herself. Then she'd look at Dolph and wonder if that was really just the machinations of her brain or something deeper.
"Even with that. I have to practice my swooning."
"I'll have you swooning tonight," he told her, and she ducked her head and looking up at him cheekily. "I'm going to sweep you off your feet."
"Come on, Romeo, let's go get your family," she stood up again, and this time he followed her.
"Romeo? That dude died, I'm more like Cassanova."
"Okay, Cassanova," she linked her arm with his. "Do you think that your mom will be mad?"
"Yeah," he told her, nodding his head, but he seemed to be joking, even though his mom might actually be upset about the entire thing.
"Do you think she's going to make us get married tomorrow?"
"Yeah."
