It was a Friday night and Rachel was taking Amy and Lucy out bowling and then for a meal. Poppy was meant to be coming too but in the end she decided to just stay at home with Jack.
Poppy had been spending loads of time with Jack recently and although Poppy hadn't actually said anything about them being together Rachel had just assumed they were.
Amy was in her room curling her hair but she was starting to get a bit of a stomach ache. She hadn't been feeling right all day and now she wasn't in the mood for going out, she just wanted to have an evening in front of the TV but she knew how much Lucy had been looking forward to it and didn't want to let her down.
Rachel was on the way to her bedroom so decided to quickly check up on Amy.
"We're going to leave in about fifteen minutes, okay love?"
"Yeah that's fine"
"Your hair looks very pretty"
"Thank you" Amy sad smiling, she was going to tell Rachel about her sore stomach but decided not to in the end because she didn't want a fuss made
Rachel went and got changed and reapplied her makeup before going into Lucy's bedroom. She thought she was in there playing with her toys but when she got in there Lucy wasn't there.
"Lucy can you come in here please?" Rachel shouted
"I'm on the toilet"
"Sorry love I didn't realise"
A couple of minutes later Lucy came into her bedroom where Rachel was getting some clothes out of her wardrobe for her to change into.
"If you get changed and then we'll go yeah?"
"Why do I need to get changed again?"
"Because it's really cold and I don't think you'll be warm enough in what you've got on"
"But I like what I'm wearing"
"I know you do and so do I, but I think you're going to be too cold"
"Okay then I'll get changed"
Rachel helped Lucy to get changed and then they were both ready to go.
Rachel checked that Poppy was okay and there was nothing she wanted before going and getting in the car with Amy and Lucy.
Rachel was so relieved it was the weekend. She'd had a really stressful and busy week at work so was glad to just be spending a bit of time with the girls even if she did have loads of work to do over the weekend.
They soon arrived at the bowling so they all got out of the car and walked in.
Rachel paid before they made their way to their lane.
"Please can I type our names in Rachel?"
"Yep course you can"
Rachel helped Lucy to set it up and then they started playing.
By the time they'd finished their game of bowling Amy's stomach was hurting quite a lot.
Lucy had needed the toilet so Amy decided to tell Rachel whilst they were waiting for them to come out.
"Rachel I have a really bad stomach ache"
"Oh do you when did that come on?"
"Today at school"
"How come you didn't say anything before?"
"It wasn't that bad before but it's really hurting now"
"I've got some painkillers in my bag so hopefully that would help"
Rachel started going through her bag but she couldn't find them but then she remembered she'd taken them out the other day when she had a headache and had forgotten to put them back in.
"Ah I forgot to put them back in my bag, are you going to be okay to wait until we get home?"
"Yeah I'll be fine"
Once Lucy came out she washed her hands and then they got into the car and drove to Wagamama, somewhere both Amy and Lucy had been wanting to go to for ages.
When they were in the car Amy started to get all teary. Her stomach was hurting loads, but she didn't understand why she was crying and she really didn't want anyone to notice.
However Rachel glanced across at her and saw her trying to brush tears off her face.
She reached over and squeezed her leg supportively, she didn't bring up the fact she was crying because she knew it would only embarrass her.
They were just parking up in the car park when suddenly Amy got a shooting pain in her stomach so she started clutching it.
"Are you okay love?" Rachel asked
Amy nodded but then she burst into tears.
"Right I think we ought to get you straight home, how about we just ring for a takeaway instead"
"But I thought we were going to Wagamama" Lucy complained
"I'll take you all another day, but Amy's not feeling very well"
"Sorry Luc" Amy said, she really did want to get home now because she was feeling horrible
Rachel started the car up again and drove them home.
When they got in Rachel took Amy straight through to the kitchen and got her a glass of water and some tablets.
Lucy ran upstairs and went straight to Poppy's room.
She opened the door and started giggling when she saw Poppy on her bed kissing Jack quite passionately especially when she realised her sister didn't have her top on.
Poppy was so shocked to hear her sister so immediately pulled away.
"Lucy get out" Poppy shouted
Normally Lucy would have got upset if Poppy shouted at her and told her to go away but she was still laughing at what she'd just seen.
She ran downstairs into the kitchen where Rachel was filling up a hot water bottle for Amy.
"What are you giggling at missus?"
"Poppy and Jack were kissing and I saw Poppy's bra because she didn't have a top on"
"Did you now?"
Rachel was glad that they weren't doing anything else because she would hate for Lucy to see anything more, she didn't want to think about the type of questions she would get then.
Once she'd filled it up Rachel took the hot water bottle through to Amy in the lounge and Lucy followed her in.
They were all sat down in there when Poppy and Jack both came in.
Poppy knew that Lucy would have told Rachel that she'd walked in on them so it was making Poppy and Jack both feel a bit awkward.
"I wasn't expecting you back this early"
"Amy's not feeling too good so we didn't stop out for tea"
"Oh right"
"We're going to order a Chinese, do you two want some?"
"Yes please"
"What do you want?"
"I don't mind just order whatever"
"Jack?"
"I don't mind either"
"Okay"
"We're going to go back upstairs, will you shout to us when it comes?"
"Yep course I will"
"Are you going back upstairs to do more kissing?" Lucy said making Poppy and Jack blush furiously
"No we're just going upstairs to get away from annoying people like you"
Rachel rang up the Chinese and ordered what they all wanted before going and putting a film on for them to watch.
"I'm just going to go and put my pyjamas on" Amy said
"Okay love"
By the time the Chinese arrived everyone was glad because they were all getting really hungry.
Rachel laid it all out in the middle of the table and then called everyone through.
Rachel poured herself a glass of wine and let Poppy and Jack have one too.
After they'd eaten they finished watching the rest of the film before Rachel took Lucy up to bed.
"I think we'll give your bath a miss tonight love and give you one in the morning instead"
"But I want a bath tonight"
Rachel rolled her eyes, normally Lucy would moan about having a bath even though she did really enjoy it once she was in. But she knew she was only saying she wanted one tonight so she could stay up later.
"No it's too late, I'll give you one in the morning"
"But I don't want one in the morning, I want one now please Rachel"
"Oh okay then but just a quick one"
"Go and get some pyjamas to put on after while I run your bath"
Rachel started running the bath and a few moments later Lucy came running in with some pyjamas.
"Those weren't under your pillow"
"But they're my favourite so I want to wear them" Lucy said holding her favourite pink pyjamas
Rachel took them off her and put them on the radiator behind her because she knew how much Lucy liked it when Rachel did this so that her pyjamas were all warm when she put them on.
Once the bath was ready Rachel helped Lucy to get changed and then got her in.
She let her have a little play and then gave her a wash before getting Lucy out.
Rachel dried her off before putting her warm pyjamas on her.
"Go for a wee and clean your teeth then"
Lucy did as she was told before going into her bedroom with Rachel and climbing into bed.
"Rachel I don't feel very tired"
"How did I know you were going to say that? Well why don't I read a bit of your book to you that normally makes you feel sleepy"
"Okay then"
Rachel picked up the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book that Lucy was reading at the minute and started reading it to her.
It didn't take long before Lucy fell asleep, not that Rachel was surprised she knew Lucy must have been tired despite her making out that she wasn't.
She kissed Lucy goodnight and turned the light out before going back downstairs with Amy, Poppy and Jack.
Amy still wasn't feeling great so went up to bed not long after Rachel had come back down, so then it was just Rachel Poppy and Jack.
"Rach"
"Yes" Rachel replied wearily knowing Poppy was after something
"Please can Jack stay over tonight"
"Not tonight no"
"Why not? Us sleeping in the same big is hardly a big deal"
"I'd say it is quite a big deal"
"No it's not, please Rachel"
"I'm putting my foot down on this Poppy, the answer is no"
"That's so unfair"
"No it's not, Jack can stay here as late as he likes but he's not sleeping"
Poppy was about to retaliate but Jack stopped him. Rachel did like Jack he was a really nice boy, but she did want to have a chat with Poppy before she let him stay the night.
They carried on watching TV for a bit longer before Jack decided to go home.
"Do you want me to drop you home?"
"No I'm fine walking thank you"
"Are you sure because it's really no problem"
"I don't live far from here, it will only take me five minutes"
"Okay then if you're sure"
"Yeah, bye Rachel"
"Bye Jack"
Poppy went out to the door with him to say goodbye so Rachel went out to the kitchen and poured herself another glass of wine before going back into the lounge.
When Poppy came back in Rachel was expecting her to start moaning again but much to her surprise she didn't even bring it up, so Rachel decided not to for the time being either.
Rachel and Poppy stayed downstairs for another hour or so before both going up to bed too.
It was about 1 when Amy wake up. Her stomach was still really hurting and she needed the loo.
Reluctantly Amy got out of her warm bed and went into the bathroom.
When she was on the loo she saw the blood on her knickers so realised she must have come on her period again.
Amy started to cry when she realised as it still felt like a really big thing to her.
She got herself sorted before staying in the bedroom and having a little cry.
After a while she dried her eyes before opening the door and making her way back to her bedroom.
She was halfway across the landing when Rachel came out of her bedroom as she was going downstairs to get a glass of water.
"Everything alright love?" Rachel asked but then she saw her tearstained face
"What's happened?"
"Nothing"
"Well it's clearly not nothing or you wouldn't look like you've been crying would you?"
Amy burst into tears again so Rachel went and wrapped her arms around her.
They stayed like this for a few minutes before Amy stopped crying so Rachel led her through to her bedroom and they both sat down on Rachel's bed.
"You going to tell me what this is all about?"
"I've got my period again"
"Oh love I know it's really not very nice, especially when you're still getting used to it but I promise it does get easier"
"It's horrible and my stomach really hurts"
"I know darling, shall I fill your hot water bottle for you again?"
"Yes please"
"Okay you lie here and I'll be back up in a few minutes"
Rachel went down and filled the hot water bottle and had a drink before going back upstairs.
"There you go"
"Thank you"
"No problem"
"Do I have to go back to my own bed? Or can I just stay in here with you?"
"Stay in here and I'll give you a big cuddle to make you feel better"
Rachel got into bed beside Amy and wrapped her arms around her.
It didn't take long for Amy to get back to sleep and when she woke up the next morning Rachel was already out of bed.
She was glad her stomach was feeling a bit better, it was still a bit sore but nowhere near as bad as it had been last night.
Amy went and got her dressing gown from her bedroom before going downstairs where Rachel was making the pancake mix with Lucy.
"Morning Amy, how are you feeling this morning?"
"A lot better thank you"
"I'm glad, we're just waiting for Poppy to wake up now and then does pancakes sound alright?"
"Mmm yes please"
"Do you want to get everything out ready?"
"Yep"
Amy got all of the cutlery out along with the sugar and syrup and cut up some fruit.
"Do you want lemon juice on yours Rachel?" Amy asked as Rachel was the only one who liked lemon on her pancakes
"Yes please"
Amy got one out of the fridge and juiced it.
It wasn't long before Amy came downstairs in her dressing gown too so Rachel started cooking them. The girls all loved pancakes so she always made them pancakes on a Saturday morning.
"Has anyone got any plans today?"
"I'm going to the cinema with Jack"
"Amy are you doing anything?"
"Is it okay if I go shopping with Jas and Beth?"
"Of course it is love, looks like it's just me and you today then Lucy"
"Can we go swimming?"
""If that's what you want to do"
After breakfast Rachel cleared up before going in the shower.
When she got out she wrapped a towel around herself before walking out of her en suite. When she did she saw Poppy sat at her dressing table.
Poppy always tended to do this if she was going out somewhere nice as she loved all of the makeup that Rachel had, even though she was only going to the cinema today she knew that Poppy would want to look nice for Jack.
"What time are you going out?"
"We're not going to the cinema until tonight but I'm going round to Jack's first because his sister's coming over with her little baby"
"Aw that'll be nice, that reminds me I'm going with Mel for her scan on Monday I'd completely forgotten about that I'll have to let school know I won't be in until after break"
"I can't wait for Mel to have the baby"
"Me neither, I can see us looking after the baby quite a bit though"
"That'll be nice though"
"Yeah it will, while you're in here I think we need to have a little chat"
"About what?" Poppy asked although she was pretty sure she knew what the answer was
"Just about Jack that's all" Rachel said and Poppy sighed
Rachel went over and closed the bedroom door not wanting the other two to overhear the conversation
"I know how close you and Jack have got recently so are you together now?"
"Yes, but it's not a big deal or anything"
"I know it's not, I just like to know these things that's all"
"I was going to tell you"
"It was pretty obvious anyway to be honest with you, now I know you're with him now but you're not going to rush into something that you'll regret are you?"
"No"
"And you weren't planning on doing anything last night when we were out of the house?"
"No" Poppy said starting to feel a little bit embarrassed
"Good girl, I just think it's best you take things slowly"
"I know, I know I'm not ready to… you know sleep with him yet because I want to make sure he's the right one first" Poppy said truthfully
"Well I'm very glad to hear it" Rachel said smiling
The two of them carried on chatting while Poppy finished doing her makeup and then Rachel got dressed once she'd gone out.
The morning passed quickly and once they'd all had lunch Rachel dropped Poppy to Jack's and Amy at the shopping centre and then drove onto the swimming pool with Lucy.
It was nice spending some time just with Lucy even if she did have to go swimming on a Saturday afternoon when it was really busy.
They stayed in for ages and as usual when Rachel said it was time to get out Lucy tried to stay in longer even though they'd already been in for ages.
Rachel had had enough though so she didn't give in and eventually Lucy got out.
"I'm cold" Lucy complained as they were waiting to have a shower because it was so busy
"It won't be too much longer love"
Eventually they got to the front of the queue so Rachel decided to just go in with Lucy as it was so busy.
Once they'd both had a shower and washed their hair they managed to find a changing room so went in and got dressed.
Once they got up to the café Rachel checked her phone and saw she had a few missed calls from Amy. She started to get a bit worried and called her back straight away.
Amy answered and asked Rachel if she'd mind picking her up. Rachel was relieved there was nothing wrong but she did feel bad as it had been quite a while since Amy first rang.
Rachel drove to the car park near next where she'd arranged to pick her up where Amy was waiting.
Amy got straight into the front seat next to Rachel.
"Sorry I didn't ring you back sooner, we were in the swimming pool"
"It's okay"
"How come you wanted to come back so early?"
"I'm not feeling very well again"
"If you go in my bag there's some pain killers and a bottle of water"
"Thanks" Amy said before going through Rachel's bag
Rachel drove them home and got Amy comfy on the sofa.
"Is there anything you want love?"
"No thank you… actually please could I have a glass of fruit juice"
"Yeah course you can"
Rachel went out to the kitchen and poured a glass for her and Lucy before taking one back in.
She then went out to the kitchen because she'd promised Lucy they could make brownies today too.
Lucy really liked baking, and even though Rachel had never been very good at it since doing it all the time with Lucy she'd certainly got a lot better.
They got the brownies in the oven and Lucy went into watch a film with Amy whilst Rachel cleared up.
By the time she'd cleared up the mess they'd made the brownies were ready to come out so Rachel shouted to Lucy.
Lucy came rushing out and picked up the oven gloves.
"No I don't think that's a very good idea young lady, I'll get them out I think"
"But I'll be really careful"
"No you don't want to get burnt do you the oven is extremely hot"
"Okay then" Lucy said passing the oven gloves to Rachel
Rachel got them out and turned it out onto a cooling rack
"Can we cut them now?"
"Not yet we need to let them cool first"
"But they look really yummy and I like them warm"
"Well it will be another hour or so before they're ready, if you cut them when they're warm they'll just fall apart. Come on let's go and watch the film"
They went and watched the film but all three of them were very glad to eat a brownie when they were ready and ended up having two each.
"How's your stomach feeling now love?"
"It's still quite sore"
"Well hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow"
"Yeah I hope so"
"Why's Amy got a tummy ache?" Lucy asked
"I don't know, I guess she's just a bit poorly" Rachel replied
"Do you need to go to the toilet Amy?" Lucy asked making them both laugh
"Why are you both laughing that's what you normally say to me Rachel when I have a tummy ache"
"No I don't" Amy said still laughing
All three of them had a nice afternoon and evening together even though Lucy's stomach was still quite sore.
