Chapter Nine: The Poison Sky: Part 2

Colonel Mace called for a red code, making UNIT soldiers go into a defense formation.

Rose closed her eye tightly and swallowed the lump that formed in her throat. She knew that if they went in there, they would be slaughtered without a second thought.

"Get them out of there. You need to get them out of there," she whispered.

"All troops, open fire!" Colonel Mace ignoring Rose completely.

Less then five minutes later, static was heard and then silence.

Colonel Mace frowned. "Greyhound 40, report. Over. Greyhound 40, report. Greyhound 40, report!"

But Ross didn't answer.

Rose closed her eyes tightly. "His name wasn't Greyhound 40. He had a name he was born with and that was Ross. Now listen to me before you get anyone else killed AND GET THEM THE HELL OUT OF THERE!" she spat at Colonel Mace's face.

"Trap One to all stations. Retreat," Colonel Mace said after a slight pause. "Order imperative, immediate retreat!"

From the static of the radio, Rose could hear them screaming, guns firing and bit the inside of her cheek. This is why she didn't like wars.

"They've taken the factory," Colonel Mace added to Rose, stating the bloody obvious.

Rose nodded with a frown. "The question is why? Why would they need a factory? It doesn't make any sense. Times like this is when I wish The Doctor was here," she said.

"Launch grid back online," Captain Price interrupted them as the screens came back on. "They're inside the system, sir. It's coming from within UNIT itself," she added.

Colonel Mace walked up to her. "Trace it. Find out where it's coming from, and quickly. Gas levels?"

"66% in major population areas. And rising," Captain Price reported grimly.

….

"Why are they defending the factory only after we were inside?" Colonel Mace asked Rose confused.

Rose and Colonel Mace were inside his office as the Colonel was scanning the papers.

Rose sighed and rubbed her eyes tiredly. "They wanted UNIT inside the factory I guess. Now you gave them something they can use inside, ready for war."

Colonel Mace frowned. "Then we've got to recover it. This Cordolaine signal thing, how does it work?"

"Makes the ship expand and stops the bullets," Rose explained.

Colonel Mace nodded and got up. "Excellent. I'm on it," he replied as he left.

Rose shook her head and walked out too. "FOR THE ONE MILLIONTH TIME YOU CAN'T FIGHT SONTARANS!" and she was ignored once again. Rose sighed as she walked back inside missing Martha's glance at her and took out her mobile to phone the Tardis.

Luckily Donna picked it up.

"What happened? Where are you?" she asked quickly.

Rose couldn't help but smile at Donna's worry. "I'm on earth and not hurt so don't worry bout me. I got my secret weapon that the Sontarans don't know."

"And what's that?" Donna hissed.

"You and The Master," Rose replied.

"Somehow that's not making me happy Barbie. Can't you zap us down with your remote thing?"

Rose bit her lip. "Don't have one. Although The Master should invent it actually. But I needed you two on that ship, that's why I had them move the Tardis. I'm really sorry, but you need to go out there."

"But there's Sonterruns out there," Donna pointed out.

"It's Sontarans, Fire Head," Rose heard The Master correct and Donna huff.

"Besides, they won't be sipping coffee. They'll be in full fledge battle mode. I can help you and you've got The Master by your side," Rose added.

There was a pause.

"But what if they find me?" Donna asked.

Rose closed her eyes tightly. "I'm really sorry but the entire planet is choking, Donna. They'll die if we don't do something."

Rose heard Donna taking a deep breath before saying something to The Master. Then she heard her return to the phone.

"What do you need us to do?"

Rose breathed a sigh of relief. "The Sontarans will be inside the factory that means they've got a teleport link with the ship. They also would have deadlocked it. I need you to reopen the link," she said quietly.

"But, I can't even mend a fuse."

Rose rolled her eyes. Was she like this before she'd met The Doctor? "Donna, don't talk about yourself like that. You can do this and you'll be brilliant."

Rose could hear two pairs of footsteps walking and then a door opening.

"Just our bloody luck," The Master muttered on the other end.

Rose frowned. "What's wrong?"

"There's a Sonterrun... Sontaran," Donna replied, correcting herself.

"Did he see you?"

"No, he's got his back to us."

Rose breathed another sigh of relief. "Okay, Donna listen on the back of his neck on his collar there's a sort of plug, like a hole. It's called the Probic Vent. One blow to the Probic Vent knocks them out. The Master will know what I'm talking about."

"But… he's gonna kill me."

Rose closed her eyes tightly. "I'm sorry. I'm really truly sorry but you need to try."

There was a long pause. Rose could hear footsteps followed by a male's grunt and then Donna's voice.

"Back of the neck," Donna answered smugly.

Rose couldn't help but grin. "There's a reason I love you. You gotta find the external junction feed to the teleport."

"Well… what's it look like?"

Rose bit her lip. "Um… a big circle on the wall with maybe a letter T with a horizontal line through it," she replied, trying to describe it.

"There's a door…" Donna said, trying to be helpful.

"There should be a switch by it."

"There is. But it's Sontarans. You need three fingers."

Rose heard The Master sigh. "Fire Head, you've got ten fingers."

"I knew that," Donna snapped. There was another pause. "We're through," she hissed.

Rose couldn't help but grin. "Told you, you're brilliant!" she said happily.

"Shut up Blondie. Right. T with a line through it."

Rose heard a door open and saw Colonel Mace walk in. "I've got to go. Keep the line open."

"Counter-attack!" he shouted.

Rose rolled her eyes. "Didn't I tell you that you don't stand a chance?"

Colonel Mace ignored her. "Positions. That means everyone!" he said, throwing a gas mask at Rose.

The fake Martha came up to her. "You're not going without me."

Rose couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "Wouldn't dream of it."

….

"Latest firing stock, what do you think, Miss Tyler?" Colonel Mace asked Rose, handing her a gun.

Rose took one glance at it before a small smirk came to her lips. "Are you my mummy?" she teased. She couldn't help it! Memories of the gas-masked children came rushing back to her. She only wished that The Doctor or Jack was there to get the joke.

Colonel Mace wasn't impressed. "If you could concentrate," he snapped. "Bullets with a rad-steel coating, no copper surface. Should overcome the Cordolaine signal."

Rose couldn't help but roll her eyes. "But the Sontarans have got lasers!" she argued. "How the hell will you be able to see through this fog?"

"Thank you Miss Tyler," Colonel Mace replied bitterly. "Thank you for your lack of faith. But this time, I'm not listening."

Then to Rose's surprise, he came out with this inspiring speech. Too bad he didn't listen, he would've been a great leader. Then, there was this loud noise, which had Rose and the rest of UNIT looking up to the sky. The fog cleared up and Rose saw something, which would make The Master really go nuts.

"It's the Valiant!" she breathed, slightly in awe. She couldn't help but wince as memories came back to her of The Year That Never Was. "That's actually brilliant!" she added when UNIT and Martha took off their masks.

Colonel Mace smirked at her. "Getting a taste for war, Miss Tyler?"

Rose rolled her eyes. "You'll never see me holding a gun."

….

Rose snuck away from the Colonel when he was distracted and signaled the fake Martha to follow her. She used her sonic to search for alien technology which led her down to a secret lab. There laid Martha on a metal grid and was dressed in a hospital gown and appeared to be asleep. Rose ran over to her and got down on her knees.

"Martha, I'm so sorry," she whispered and checked her pulse. "Still alive." Then she heard a gun clicking, which made Rose turn to the clone. "Am I supposed to be impressed?"

Fake Martha remained emotionless. "Wished you carried a gun now?" she asked.

Rose shook her head. "Nope. Love not having a weapon that can kill innocent people."

"I've been stopping the nuclear launch… all this time," Fake Martha gloated, a pleased and smug look on her face.

Rose grinned. "You did exactly what I wanted all along. I needed to stop this war, just as much as the Sontarans. I don't want another race to become extinct. But you… you're a triple agent."

Fake Martha frowned. "When did you know?"

Rose gave her a look that said 'are you kidding me?' "About you? Right from the start actually. First of all, Martha will always put her family first, even before me. And secondly you smell. You might as well be wearing a sign saying 'CLONE'. Not in front of captain Jack though. You remember him right? You have got her memories after all. Martha Jones, is keeping you alive," she said as she took the helmet off of the real Martha while the fake Martha collapsed onto the floor, dropping the gun, which made Rose kicked it away. The real Martha gasped and grabbed Rose tightly. "You're okay," Rose soothed her.

Martha shook her head. "There was this thing, Rose. This alien, with this head…" she babbled, clearly still shaken.

But just then, Rose's mobile rang.

Rose sighed. "Blimey, haven't had a lunch break today," she replied as she took her mobile out. "Found it yet?" she asked Donna.

"Yes. Now hurry up!" Donna snapped. "I'm going to be driven insane by Misery Guts comments all the bloody time."

"I heard that!" The Master growled.

Rose rolled her eyes. Children. "Donna… The Master will know what to do, keep a look out for any Sontarans."

….

The clone told Martha what the gas was, which was a clone feed. The clone slowly died and Rose gave Martha her blue jacket. Rose also managed to fix the teleport and got Donna and The Master back down to Earth as well.

Donna ran up to Rose and hugged her tightly. "Have I ever told you how much I hated you and Misery Guts?" she breathed.

Rose gave a look to The Master who just shrugged his shoulders, giving her an innocent look. "Get the Tardis down here," she told him who sighed heavily but did as he was told to, muttering under his breath.

The Tardis materialized back down to Earth and Rose turned to Martha who was still staring at her clone.

"Martha? You coming?" she asked.

Martha got out of her trance and walked over to Rose. "What about this nuclear launch thing?"

Rose shrugged. "Keep pressing N. That'll will stop them."

Donna's mouth dropped opened at the sight of the clone. "Rose…. There's two of them," she pointed out, looking between the real Martha and the clone confused.

Rose sighed. "Long story. Tell you about it sometime. Right the old teams back together. Brilliant! Well, not really the old team since The Doctor isn't here and we have The Master instead, but hey!" she said happily as she fiddled with the controls while The Master scowled at her.

"I do not want to be compared to my rival thank you!" he argued.

Rose shook her head. "Didn't even noticed," she replied cheerfully.

Donna's eyes widened. "You're not sending us back to that ship!" she shouted.

Rose gave her a look. "No! Who do you think I am? I needed to get this thing working so we can get to…" she trailed off as the four of them were teleported to the Rattigan Academy. "Here owned by a spoiled eighteen year old brat, going by the name of…"

A gun clicked which made the four of them turn to see Luke holding a gun, aiming at Rose.

"Don't tell anyone what I did! It wasn't my fault, the Sontarans lied to me, they..."

He didn't get any further as the gun was snatched away by Rose.

Rose rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Honestly… If I see one more gun," she growled as she walked away with Martha, Donna and The Master following her.

Donna frowned as she took a glance at Martha. "You know, that jacket sort of suits you."

Martha scoffed. "I like my red one better. It's the one with my memories of the adventures I went with Rose."

….

Half an hour later, Rose managed to convert the air back to normal, stopping the gas from going any further.

Luke laughed weakly. "She's a genius!" he breathed in awe.

Martha grinned. "She's brilliant," she agreed.

Rose rolled her eyes as she listened to them when she picked up the device and ran back into the building. "Now we're in trouble!"

….

"Okay, Donna, thanks for saving me. Don't let The Master go crazy again, keep him in line. Martha, I missed you like mad. Master, don't start taking over worlds again. Luke, do something awesome with your life."

Donna's eyes widened in shock. "You're saying goodbye," she realized.

Rose suddenly looked grim, looking older than she is. "Sontarans will never be defeated. They'll be getting ready for war right now. I turned this for Sontaran air, well that means…"

Martha's eyes widened. "You're gonna ignite them," she replied.

"But… you'll kill yourself," Donna said softly.

Rose frowned. "I know."

Martha shook her head, tears in her eyes. "Just send that thing up, on it's own. I don't know... put it on a delay."

Rose shook her head. "I can't," she whispered.

"Why not?" Donna asked.

The Master sighed. "She's too bloody noble that she has to give them a choice."

Rose glared at the Time Lord. "I love you too," she said sarcastically before she teleported away.

….

Rose sucked in a deep breath when she was faced with hundreds of Sontarans, ready for battle.

"Oh, excellent!" General Stall said gleefully, already in battle formation.

Rose just held out the button in front of him. "General, Stall. You should know what this is. Don't make this harder for me. Just leave, and I'll never tell people what happened here," she replied.

"Your stratagem would be wise if Sontarans feared death. But we do not. At arms!" General Stall demanded to his fleet, which aimed their guns at Rose.

Rose just remained calm, although on the inside, she was shaking with fear. Is this how she was going to die?

"I'll do it Stall, if it's to save the planet I was born on. I'll do it."

"A warrior doesn't talk, he acts!" General Stall barked, smirking.

Rose sighed. "I'm giving you a chance here. Don't be an idiot and leave."

"And miss the glory of this moment?" General Stall asked.

Rose glared at him. Her patience was wearing thin. "Don't underestimate me! I'm warning you," she growled.

General Stall smirked. "And I salute you! Take aim!"

The Sontarans aimed their guns at Rose and they had their missiles aimed at the Earth.

"This is you last chance. You'll die!" Rose shouted.

General Stall continued to smirk. "Then you'll die too," he replied smugly.

The Sontarans started their battle chant and dance while Rose just stood there, finger on the button. Suddenly the teleport was working and with a blue flash she was gone and back at the academy. Rose looked around confused. She climbed forward and sat down at the edge of the pod. Martha wrapped her arms around Rose while Donna just walked up to her. Donna then punched Rose in the arm before she hugged her other arm, showing just how worried she was. Rose looked at The Master who was just looking bored.

Yep, things haven't changed with him. Not at all.

….

After a nights sleep, Donna went to check on her family while Rose and Martha caught up on things that happened during the months apart. The Master was repairing the Tardis.

"How were they?" Martha asked softly, noticing when Donna wiped away a tear.

Donna cleared her throat. "Oh, same old stuff. They're fine. So! You gonna come with us? We're not exactly short of space," she said hopefully.

Martha smiled sadly. "Oh, I have missed all this, but you know I'm good here. Back at home. And I'm better for having been away. Besides, someone needs me," she replied, looking at her engagement ring. "Never mind the universe, I've got a great big world of my own now!" she said cheerfully as she hugged Rose one more time, gave Donna a kiss on the cheek, The Master a glare. And then she walked out of the Tardis, back to her life on Earth.

Back inside, Rose sighed sadly before the Tardis doors suddenly closed and everyone was thrown around the room, clinging onto something.

"Master, what the hell did you do?" Donna shouted as the Time Lord climbed up the stairs and up to the controls.

"I didn't do anything Fire Head!" The Master growled.

Donna turned to Rose, well as best as she could, and found her staring at the computer screen in shock. "Rose, what's happening?"

"What? WHAT?" Rose shouted, eyes widening. "She's flying on her own!" she yelled.

"I didn't do anything!" The Master shouted.

"MASTER, I"M GOING TO KILL YOU!" Donna screamed as the Tardis flew madly in the time vortex.

A/N: I'm sorry! Really, really sorry! I've just been stinking busy with my life. I've got assessments to finish before TAFE closes for the holidays, I'm packing for the cruise I'm going on after Christmas and then saving up to get an apartment. But I'll never forget this story! I promise!

Now onto business. I've got a dilemma I need your help on. For the Doctor daughter's episode, do you want Rose to have a son or The Master to have a daughter? And also what do you guys think of The Master/Donna pairing? Let me know in a review!

Thank you guys so much! I have the best readers in the world!
