Eternal – The Temper & The Birthday
Dawn's POV
I was getting really worried, it had been over ten minutes and Misty still wasn't back. Leaf, after waiting for a bit finally went after her and hadn't returned either. Not only that, but Paul and Drew were nowhere to be found either. After what had been going on lately nothing good could come out of those four being together.
I snuck a peak towards Gary and Ash. They had been sitting there looking really out of it, while May and I had been glancing at the door waiting for one of them to burst in. Thankfully the teacher was running late as usual so none of them would get in trouble for now, but they needed to hurry up!
A loud BANG! came from ahead, and my, as well as the rest of the classes, head snapped around to see the door burst open. The entire class froze as Paul stormed in with the maddest look I have even seen. Coming from him, that's pretty bad.
I admit, he looks hot when he's angry. But this? Scarier than May when all the food was gone. Ugh, bad memories…anyway where was I? Oh yeah, the human ice-block.
I attempted a shaky smile at him, but he only gave a scowl in response. Ash and Gary looked like they were about to jump out of their skins, and that's when Misty walked in followed by Leaf. Paul bared his teeth and chills ran throughout my body, I had a really bad feeling about this.
I shot Misty a look, and she mouthed the words 'they know' at us. We gaped at her in shock, and looked towards Paul who glared back.
How much did he know exactly? Was he aware about Leaf as well? I took it that he didn't, seeing as Misty seemed to be the object of his hate right now. Drew ran into the room, looking flustered and sent a look towards Misty who turned away.
He walked straight past us without glance, grabbing Paul and shoving him into a seat.
"What's going on?" I heard Ash ask, and only received a grunt from Paul and a shake of the head from Drew.
What the hell is going on around here? Seriously, this is so messed up! But then again what I'm thinking isn't really important right now, what matters is that Paul knows. And I have a feeling Drew does to.
Normal POV
Class began and everything was extremely tense between the two groups, neither knowing what to do or wanting to do anything about it.
Paul for one, was furious at his latest discovery of Misty's immortality, and wanted nothing more than to kill her right then and there. However, he managed to contain himself for Ash and Gary's sake, knowing that nothing good could come out of it in the middle of the school room.
Misty and Leaf weren't exactly thrilled either, having learnt of Paul's secret and him not even listening to them wasn't at the top of their list right now. Plus he had tried to hurt Misty, and Drew even blamed her!
On top of that they had the nerve to compare her one of those bloodthirsty killing monsters, the very thing they had tried to escape from. The very thing that Paul and Drew themselves could be for all the girls knew.
The four humans of the group were struggling to keep their questions in, everyone could see the anger practically radiating from Paul and nobody wanted anything to do with that right now.
So in silence, they all followed instructions from the teacher.
Lunch time rolled around far too slowly for any of them, and as those final seconds were ticking down they all held their breaths in anticipation.
Finally the bell rang and Paul was the first the stand up and stalk out of the room, followed by Drew who shot a look at Misty. Ash and Gary exchanged glances before slowly walking out after them, but not before Ash gave Misty an apologetic look that only made her feel worse.
The girls waited for everyone else to leave, so when the room was finally empty May turned on the vampires.
"Okay seriously, what was that all about?" she demanded.
Misty and Leaf looked at each other and put their heads down, neither wanting to look directly at the girls.
"Misty! Stop hiding from us, we know something happened out there and we have a right to know what it was," May spoke louder, and Leaf raised her hands in a motion telling her to lower her voice.
Dawn spoke up, "You said they know. What did you mean by that?" the blunette questioned, having a feeling she wouldn't like the answer.
Misty sighed and gave in.
"It means they know what I am. As you already know, I went to get something from my locker and Paul surprised me. He started saying that he knew what I was and tried to hurt me into telling him, but eventually Leaf and Drew came around the corner. I pushed him away but they saw what was in the bottle."
Both human girls gasped in horror at what they were told.
"You can't be serious!" Dawn yelled.
"But I don't get what's so bad about him knowing, I mean what can one human do? Nobody will believe him," May put in.
"That's just the thing May, he isn't human. He drank what was in Misty's bottle, he's one of us," Leaf whispered just enough so they could hear her.
"WHAT?" They both screeched.
"Would you keep your voices down?" Leaf hissed.
"He might not be one of us though Leaf, he could be one of them," Dawn pointed out.
Misty shook her head. "No Dawn, I don't think he is. He seemed really angry and said that I was one, that's why he's so mad. I think he's like me and Leaf, the vampires that don't kill for the sake of killing."
"You may be right Misty, that would explain the normal coloured eyes. But honestly, Paul? He doesn't seem like the type who would turn down violence," May shuddered earning a small glare from Dawn.
"Well maybe something happened to him!" she defended.
"Whose side are you on anyway?" May frowned.
"Stop arguing! It won't get us anywhere," Leaf spoke up.
"Leaf's right, fighting with each other won't make things better. I think we should just avoid the guys for now," Misty agreed.
"Uh Misty? Small problem there," Dawn said.
"Huh?"
"They're supposed to be coming over later remember? That isn't exactly what I call avoiding them."
The red-head face-palmed at the reminder and Leaf groaned.
"Then what the heck are we supposed to do? Paul could try something, even Drew maybe if he knows!" May panicked.
"May relax, I think it will be okay. Paul won't try anything with Ash and Gary around, and I'm positive Drew won't even think about it," Misty assured her.
"How do you know Drew wouldn't? He's on Paul's side in case you're forgetting," the brunette pointed out raising an eyebrow.
Leaf and Misty looked at each other knowingly.
"Trust us May, he won't."
"Okay if you say so," she muttered hesitantly.
Suddenly her stomach let out a huge grumble and they all laughed.
"Hey I forgot about lunch! Come on girls, I'm starved," May exclaimed and ran out the door, heading straight for the cafeteria. The others stood there smiling after her, and after a minute began walking in the direction she had gone.
Paul's POV
Paul stormed out of the classroom and stalked along the corridor, aiming for the cafeteria. Behind him he could hear Drew following, and after him the other two. At this rate, he was going to break something. He really didn't want to hurt one of them, but just the thought of those girls….
He clenched his fists. Even thinking about what Misty was made his blood boil! Then he thought of Ash. The boy clearly had feelings for her, and that was not a good thing.
That girl was a monster, her type was the reason his family was dead in the first place. His and the others guys. Vampires like him were different, they didn't kill for pleasure. Him and Drew were created differently. After what happened to his family he made an oath to never become like the savage killers that were his families fate.
"Paul wait up!" he heard Drew call out from a few meters away, but the purple haired boy made no effort to slow down.
"Come on man, I know you're angry but save it for later. You can't risk the students' lives, or Gary and Ash's for that matter."
At this he spun around and glared at Drew, true hatred in his eyes.
"You think I would hurt these people? You think I would ever harm Gary and Ash? After all we have all been through, you honestly think I would turn into what drove us away in the first place?" he snarled at his green haired companion.
Drew's eyes widened as he realized him mistake.
"No, no! I didn-
"What going on?" Gary interrupted as him and Ash caught up at last.
Green and onyx met brown, and they all tensed up further.
"I wouldn't risk it Drew," Paul whispered harshly.
"I know that! I just meant you might accidentally do something. We all know what happens when you're angry," Drew quickly covered. They all winced at the memories of broken objects and ruined furnishings as memories of Paul's previous rants came to mind.
He sighed, "Sorry, I get what you mean."
"What happened back there? Misty-
"Nothing happened!" Paul scowled at the mention of Misty.
Ash frowned. "But she-
"Just stop talking about her! Hurry up or all the food will be gone," he hissed and turned away, leaving the boys with forlorn expressions on their faces.
"I don't suppose you'll say anything?" Gary muttered to Drew who shook his head and pushed them after Paul.
Normal POV
The girls had been sitting down for a few minutes and were talking in worried and hushed tones about the boys, who had just entered the room. Leaf was the first to notice, and they quickly ceased the conversation.
Paul was the first to enter followed by Drew as usual. Behind him were the other two, and despite the current on goings Ash still sprinted for the food. Gary shook his head and walked calmly towards the line where his raven haired friend was currently piling his tray with everything he could get his hands on.
Paul stood in the doorway, staring deadly at where the girls were sitting as if he could incinerate them with a single frown. Drew whispered something to which he didn't look happy about, but gave in and nodded. Then they both started towards the girls table.
They all looked at each other frantically, each one screaming something inside their head.
"Hello girls," Drew greeted calmly.
"Drew," May replied coldly causing him to raise an eyebrow.
"Now June, haven't you ever been told to treat your superiors with respect?" he smirked.
"You are in no way superior to me, Grasshead."
At this he smiled knowingly. "Oh believe me my dear Airhead, I'm superior to you in more ways than you could ever imagine."
"Oh really? And what ways could those be huh Drew?" Leaf glared causing Drew to drop the smirk.
"Uh, nothing,"
May raised an eyebrow but shook it off.
"So what do you want this time? You've already used up the 'new girl' excuse, there's no reason for you to be here," Misty said.
"Nobody asked you, killer," Paul spat earning him dirty looks from all the girls.
"Don't speak to her like that!" Dawn shouted turning all the attention towards her.
Paul glared at her coldly and looked questioningly at Misty who shook he head. The less Paul thought May and Dawn knew the better. If he thought they didn't know about him being a vampire, then they were safer. For now…
He turned back to the blunette. "Stop covering for her, we know what she is," he growled.
"She isn't like them, unlike some people," Leaf snarled giving both boys a judgmental glance.
Paul narrowed his eyes. "Never say that again," he spat with venom.
"So how long have you been using them as your personal blood service?" Drew growled, gesturing towards the two humans.
"I would never hurt any of them!" Misty snarled back at him.
"Sure you wouldn't"
"I wonder how Ashy-boy would feel about this?" Paul grinned coldly at Misty whose eyes widened.
"You wouldn't dare."
His grin broadened. "Try me."
Misty clenched her fists and bared her fangs at Paul for the first time, whose eyes widened a little and earnt tiny gasp from Drew.
"Put them away! What if somebody saw you?" Drew hissed frantically.
"You are both idiots and hypocrites! If I was one of those creations, I would have red eyes not cerulean blue. Stop accusing me of all the things you do yourself," she snarled.
Paul narrowed his glance and seemed to consider her words. True, her eyes weren't red, but that didn't give him much to go on. He was about to retort, when Dawn cut in.
"All of you stop it! Fighting here of all places won't get you anywhere," she demanded causing everyone to send her a glare.
"Hey guys! So what's everyone talking about?" Ash chirped happily as he slid in the seat on the other side of Misty. At this everyone shut up and plastered fake smiles on their faces, all except Paul who scowled at Ash's choice of seating.
"Oh nothing much, we were just discussing the project the professor assigned us," Misty replied coolly.
He nodded at this. "Oh yeah that reminds me, we're still coming over today right?"
All except Gary stiffened at his statement.
"Uh, well um…I'm not so sur-"
"We'll be there. How does four sound to you?" Paul cut in as Leaf was about to make up and excuse.
Instead she sent him a brief glare but quickly exchanged it for a smile. "It sounds fine! But you can't stay for long okay? We have something important to take care of," May voiced.
"What could be so important that finishing a project would go under? You're not trying to get rid of us are you?" Drew frowned, knowing that the girls couldn't say no in front of Gary and Ash.
May turned to him, and smiled sarcastically. "Of course not! Tomorrow is Leaf's birthday though, and we want to make sure everything is ready."
The boys raised their eyebrows and looked at Leaf questioningly.
"Tomorrow your birthday Leafy?" Gary asked.
"Yes," She replied stoically, fearing whatever he was going to suggest
"So you need to get ready for a party or something?" Ash asked.
"I'm not having a party Ash, the girls have apparently got a 'surprise' for me," Leaf rolled her eyes at them.
"So how old are you turning? I prefer someone my own age, but I guess for you I could make an exception," Gary grinned flirtatiously.
All four girls cringed at his comment, and May nearly choked on her food earning an amused expression from Drew.
"See Airhead? I told you that inhaling food was a bad idea," he smirked.
"Hmph," she mumbled, turning back to face Gary and Leaf.
The smirk dropped at her sudden end to his teasing and he frowned. Since when did she not retaliate?
"H-how old am I-I t-turning?" Leaf stuttered looking at Misty wildly.
Gary raised his eyebrow at her and smirked. "Aww Leafy, are you worried you won't be good enough for me? Don't worry, I don't care how old you are."
"Listen Oak, I don't want anything to do with you. Another thing, I am too good for you," she spat back making him drop the smirk.
"Oh?" he challenged.
"Let's just say, I'm superior to you in more ways than one," the brunette smirked, shooting a look at Drew who opened his mouth slightly. Was she trying to tell him something?
"You didn't answer his question, how old are you turning?" Ash piped up causing the girls to sigh in frustration.
"I'm uh, turning 16. Yeah, 16!" Leaf responded quickly. What could she say? 'Oh yeah guys, by the way I'm a few hundred years old. No biggie, right?'
"Awesome! Hey you're all still coming to school tomorrow right?" he asked glancing at Misty out of the corner of his eye.
"Uh sure, why wouldn't we be?" Leaf raised her eyebrow.
"Eh, whenever it's Gary's birthday he ditches and usually makes us ditch with him."
Gary rolled his eyes. "I don't see the point of wasting my birthday doing work."
She shook her head at his comment. "Well I'm still coming, I'd rather do that than have nothing to do while the others go."
"Cool."
"Wait a minute, why don't we all just ditch together and celebrate Leafy's birthday?" Gary spoke up earning multiple reactions from everyone in the group.
All the vampires glared at each other, none wanting to spend the day together. Ash brightened at the thought of food and a day with Misty, while the other two girls shifted in their seats uncomfortably.
"I don't think that's such a good idea Gary," Misty said through clenched teeth.
"I agree with her," Paul spat narrowing his gaze.
"Oh come on! We could celebrate Leaf's birthday, and finish the project while skipping school all in one. Sounds like the perfect plan to me," he whined and Ash nodded in agreement.
Drew sighed, and knew that they would have to give in eventually. It's not like Gary and Ash would change their minds anytime soon without one of the others spilling the fact that Misty was a vampire.
He looked at Misty and nodded once, she just gave him a look that said 'are you serious?' and he rolled his eyes.
"For once, I think Gary's plan actually sounds alright."
Anyone who wasn't Ash or Gary shot him a disbelieving look, the latter giving each other a high-five.
"What?" Paul snarled.
"I reckon we should ditch school and do something for Leaf's birthday. What's so bad about it?" he shrugged.
"I could name a few things," Misty muttered under her breath, knowing that the two would hear.
"What about you guys?" Gary turned to Dawn and May. They looked at each other helplessly before giving in.
"If it's okay with Leaf then it's okay with us."
At this it took everything Leaf had not to bang her head on the table, and everyone turned to her.
"I guess it would be more fun than spending it at school," she shrugged and the two human boys made whooping noises in success.
"Yes!" they cried and Gary hugged Leaf.
"Thank you Leafy! This will be the best birthday you've ever had."
Leaf froze and just sat there, accepting the hug but not returning it. The bell rang and he stood up before running off with Ash to class. The rest sat there, nobody moving until Paul broke the silence.
"Why did you agree?" he shouted at Drew who flinched.
"Because we couldn't say no without telling them what Misty is. Besides, you know what those two are like when they want something."
"I'm sure I could have changed their minds," Paul muttered. "I don't want to spend more time with that," he gestured at Misty who narrowed her eyes.
"Likewise," Misty spat back at him.
May and Dawn looked at each other, before standing up.
"We'll let you sort this out," Dawn mumbled and walked of quickly with May beside her.
"Look you purple haired Grinch, the last thing I want is to have more time with you of all people. But can we at least get along tomorrow? For their sake," she replied.
"Fine, for them. But don't expect me to make it easy for you, Ash will find out soon enough."
"We'll be gone before then. Besides, Drew won't let that happen. Unless of course he wants May to find out about his little secret," Misty smirked.
Both boys narrowed their eyes.
"What secret?"
"I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about."
"I'm sure I have no idea," Drew responded with mock cluelessness.
"I'll make you a deal. You tell our secret, we'll tell yours. Until then we act like nothing is going on. Do we have a deal?" Leaf spoke up.
Drew and Paul looked at each other then turned back to the girls.
"I don't make deals with your kind."
"Oh really? We're the same, in case you're forgetting. How do you think May would feel if she ever found out?"
Drew narrowed his gaze. "What secret are you talking about?"
"Which one are you referring to?" Misty smiled coldly.
"Depends on how many you know."
"Depends on how many you want her to know."
"Fine! Whatever, we have a deal," he mumbled and Paul simply scowled.
"Good," Leaf said.
"Don't expect us to come over tonight, tomorrow will be enough," Paul hissed.
"I have no objections to that," Misty replied with just as much fervour as the boys walked off.
When they were gone Leaf turned to her.
"Now what the hell are we supposed to do? Having them over for a few hours was bad enough, but the whole day? Misty, I don't know how much longer we'll be able to keep this under control."
"I don't know Leaf, I really don't. The only thing I do know is that as long as we don't say anything they can't either. It's only for a day and as far as Paul is concerned Dawn doesn't know about him yet," she replied half-halfheartedly.
She sighed and ran a hand through her hair.
"You're right, I just have a bad feeling is all."
"It's always bad whenever those boys are concerned. Don't stress Leaf, they won't try anything in front of the humans."
"Yeah, now come on before the professor gives out detentions."
Misty laughed and stood up. "Man, I haven't missed school at all."
"That makes two of us," Leaf grinned back.
It was just one day, how bad could it be?
Sorry that was so bad, there's a lot going on right now and I have my first exam next week that I have to start working on. Ugh, year 10 fitness is sooooooo not what I bargained for. How the heck do they expect me to memorise the whole damn bone system, let alone remember it all in LATIN! Laters, I need some chocolate….at least this was still updated two days early!
