Ah, I had so much fun writing this! Enjoy the fluff...

"You're going to have to put her down eventually!" Tom pointed out to Sam, who held Laura in her arms, and was sitting up in their bed. It was their first night with Laura at home, and Sam was reluctant to put her in the cot they had hastily put up earlier. Well, Sam had watched Tom build it, pretending to make Laura laugh at him.
"But there's no point. She'll only wake up in another hour. An hour and a half at the most. She's been sleeping all day, except for feeds. There's no way she'll sleep now. And by the time I've gone to sleep, it'll be time to wake up again," Sam reasoned.
"Well why don't you at least try. You're probably tireder than you think. I bet you'll sleep instantly. And she's a baby, that's all she wants to do: sleep, unless she's hungry, which she isn't," Tom begged. He couldn't let Sam stay up all night. Sam muttered to Laura, pretending not to listen to him. "Come on. She'll just be over here." The cot was only a metre from Sam's side of the bed. He scooped her up from Sam's arms, and she didn't fight it. Sam was already ready for bed, so she could just settle under the duvet. Once Tom had put Laura in her crib, he came and joined her. This was worse than when she was pregnant! It was the second pointless disagreement they had had that day. He kissed Sam on the cheek, and turned the light off.
"Go to sleep," he whispered.

When they were both woken by the screaming later that night, Tom switched his bedside lamp on and turned to look at Sam.
"I'll do it," he said.
"Well what good are you going to be? She's probably hungry." She sighed and checked the time. It had been over two hours since her last feed. Definitely hungry. She went to the cot, lifting Laura out. "Shhh, baby girl, at least let Daddy get some sleep," she said. Tom grinned from the bed. It was the first time he had been called daddy. Mesmerised, he watched as Laura was fed.
"Oi!" said Sam, looking up. "It's not open to the public you know!"
"You're my fiancé. Anyway, I just find it amazing that that's our baby."
"Oh shut up, you're so soppy. There you go." She passed Laura to Tom. "You can burp her and change her nappy, I'm going to sleep." Tom raised his eyebrows, chuckling as he kissed Laura's tiny forehead. He wrinkled his nose.
"Smelly baby!" he exclaimed, and he hurried to the bathroom.

Finally, four feeds and a long night later, Sam woke, for the first time, not to the sound of a crying baby. She looked at her phone. Ah. It was probably because it had only been an hour since she had last fed her. She looked over at Tom: still fast asleep. After his initial awakening at Laura's crying, Tom had slept through the rest of the night. Fat lot of good he was, she thought, somewhat affectionately. Sam groaned. She considered hitting him with her pillow or something, but thought better of it. He needed as much sleep as he could get. She shuddered at the thought of the grumpy, sleep-deprived Tom she sometimes had the displeasure of talking to. Steeling herself for a few seconds, she emerged from beneath the warmth of the cover into the morning air, and, pulling on a hoodie, went to Laura. She wasn't asleep, but thankfully, she wasn't crying. Sam already hated the sound of her crying, because it was the most distressing noise she could imagine. She wondered how it had ever managed to annoy her before. Now it made her desperate to do whatever she could for her baby. And for such a small baby, Laura had an excellent set of lungs on her, which, even during her first night, she seemed to determine to exercise as much as possible. Sam picked her up under her armpits, sniffing her nappy. It didn't smell. She breathed a sigh of relief, loudly, for Laura's benefit.
"See, I like it when you don't mess up your nappy," Sam said to her, kissing her. Laura gurgled, happily, Sam assumed. She decided to see if she wanted a feed, which she did.

When, about an hour later, Sam had dressed Laura and had her own breakfast, she made up her mind that it was time to wake Tom up. She went up the stairs quietly, hoping he wasn't already awake. Having reached his side of the bed, she lifted Laura into Tom's face.
"Get Daddy!" she cried, albeit slightly quietly so as not to distress Laura. Tom opened his eyes to find Sam sitting on his legs, holding their daughter's fist and gently making it her punch him.
"Oh. Wow. Hello," Tom grinned, taking Laura and squirming into a sitting position (tricky with Sam settled on his legs).
"I can tell you're in a good mood," he said to Sam. "What's going on? Why are you so happy?"
"I don't know. Probably having a baby does that to you. You can blame my hormones, I have no control over this!" She leaned over Laura to kiss him deeply.
"Definitely in a good mood!" Tom murmured against her lips. "So what have you two done this morning? What time is it?" he asked.
"It's about eight. We have had breakfast, and... No, that's about it. But I want a shower now, so you'll have to entertain her," she beamed and headed for the bathroom. Tom chuckled. This was weird, but he wasn't about to complain. If Laura could change her... Well, not change - he had seen her like this before, but it was rare; she seemed almost deliriously happy - this much in one day, he couldn't wait to see what she could do in the coming years. He lifted her back into the cot so he could get dressed, and then he sat back on the bed with her leaning against him, giving her multiple toys. She couldn't hold her head up, so she ended up looking up at Tom most of the time, as that was the angle her head fell at. She couldn't grab the toys either, not yet, but Tom kept her, and himself busy, until Sam came back. She smiled when she saw them, and climbed back into bed. She could tell it was going to be a lazy day. Probably a lazy week. Tom had a week's paternity leave, but then he was back to work. Actually that reminded her of something.
"It's your birthday next week, isn't it?" She had completely forgotten, what with Laura arriving.
He laughed. "You sound surprised."
"Just been too busy to think about it. Are you back to work that day?"
"Yep. It's my first day back," he grimaced.
She yawned. "I'll have to think of something special for you," she grinned. "But for now, we have things to do!"
"Oh yeah, like lie in bed with our daughter all day?"
"Exactly," she joked, cuddling up further into him and stroking Laura's cheek.

The next chapter is done, so if you review lots, I promise that this time, I will upload it tomorrow!
