"If anything is sacred, the human body is sacred."
— Walt Whitman
The Siren Maya is a remarkable physical specimen.
I was lucky enough to get the chance to examine her prowess with her powers first-hand today. I performed a physical on her – that is not a euphemism – as I was concerned that her encounter with the Warrior and the massive amounts of eridium along with it may have had adverse affects on her. Luckily, these concerns turned out to be misplaced. She also allowed me to get readings of her brain activity while activating her powers. It is a relief to finally find somebody who respects scientific curiosity as much as I do. I suspect the data I gathered will prove invaluable in discovering how Sirens are able to manipulate themselves and their surroundings.
I say "suspect" because I have not yet run analysis on the data. As impressive as her Siren abilities are... I find myself just as impressed by her physical fitness. I had never noticed this before, perhaps because she constantly wears those unflattering cargo pants and bizarre combat suit. She dressed considerably lighter for my examination, much to my approval. Athletic shorts and a tank. I believe it was when she was ripping apart a Hyperion spy from the inside that I noticed how toned her arms are. It is a good thing that all of our hopes were resting on a pair of such sturdy, well-defined shoulders.
I cannot help but wonder what role kinesthetics play in the expression of powers. She moves her arm and clenches her fist in order to phaselock something. Are the powers only able to manifest via the electrical impulses created in moving her arm, or does it merely serve to direct the psychokinetic energy? I believe it is a question which warrants further study. My mind races at the potential implications.
Whether or not her body is a conduit for her powers... well, as I said, her physique is quite remarkable. The physical fitness test was more of a formality for the Crimson Raiders than anything else. Which is just as well, because I don't know how many pull-ups she did, all I remember is watching her shoulders and her back muscles as she did them... that tight, exposed tummy as she performed upside-down crunches, hanging from the chin-up bar... and oh, the treadmill. Suffice to say I needed more cold water from standing behind the treadmill and watching her than she needed from running on it.
If I didn't know any better, I'd swear she was showing off on purpose. However, as I have been told countless times, I would not know subtlety if it performed naked interpretive dance in my research station.
Thus, my reason for recording this.
As you seem to be much sharper than most of the other buffoons on this planet, I suppose you now understand why I seemed more perturbed than usual when I requested that you locate this ECHO recording. I was far too aware of what you would hear when you located it. Admittedly, I regret that you have to hear it like this. My curiosities have exceeded the purely scientific for quite some time now.
Still, it is important that there is no misunderstanding between us, and I fear that was all but inevitable if I attempted to tell you this in person. I find talking with you is rather difficult – not like with the others, though. I do get peculiar feelings in my stomach when I am near you, but it is not the usual nausea. It is surprisingly somewhat pleasant.
So, Maya, if you have listened this far, I can only assume that you were not entirely put off by what you heard. In which case, I would like you to know one more thing:
My offer still stands.
