Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been on in so long. I've been having some trouble getting back onto this account. That's been fixed now, and I can finally log back in so I'll be updating a lot more. Sorry to keep you guys waiting and make you worry so much!
Anyway, I had a whole lot of story written out for this, but I decided that I didn't like what was going on. I'll be going back and rewriting it from this chapter in. Nothing before this chapter will change, but chapter 11 on will have some major changes in it because I feel like this was a better route to take. So enjoy, and let's get going!
Chapter Eleven: Shared Visions
The Sanctuary after the battle to defeat Arles was not a pretty sight. Sure, they'd gotten rid of the tyrant who had basically destroyed every legacy of the Saints, but now they had to rebuild it. And not only that, there was the damage done. Deathmask of course was dead, but other than him none of the other Gold Saints had died (though no one could deny that Shun was very injured). Dead Silver and Bronze Saints were almost everywhere though, and taking care of the bodies was something that no one was looking forward to.
Saori had opened the door and released the imprisoned Saints, and she asked the Bronze Saints to return to the others and let them know that everything was alright. Shun however she didn't want to let out of her sight. She had taken the Gold Saint's arm and brought him into step with her. Shun fell easily into step beside her as she walked carefully so he wouldn't get hurt, but purposely through her temple, taking it all in. Shun was silent, but he understood that she might have only just gotten her memories back as a goddess, and it would be something she would have to get used to.
Saori paused as she looked out of the front over the Sanctuary. The sun had risen now and the work had begun. Part of the Sanctuary was still on fire from the fury of Phoenix and it might not die down anytime soon. Shun's head turned in the same direction as he sensed the destruction below. He was both glad and sad to see what the battle had caused. At least the Sanctuary wasn't defeated anymore. Arles was dead now, and the Sanctuary was already beginning to return to peace. Saori after all was much more gentle than Arles had ever been. Saori let out a small sigh but gave the stone-faced Gold Saint a gentle smile as well.
"Everything is calming down now," she said. "We have much more to do, but eventually the world will begin to heal from the tyranny of Arles."
"Yes," Shun replied quietly with his face not changing expression. "I suppose it would." She paused a moment and looked at him.
"Is something wrong?" She asked. She paused a moment and watched him, trying to think what could be wrong. "Have you seen something? I know you have the power of foresight. Don't hide it from me, especially not if you need help."
Shun's lips twitched just slightly into a frown but he quickly wiped the emotion away. There were many things that he had to worry about now. For one he was injured and all of the Saints were very nervous and on high trigger alert. The surrounding villages would be a little panicked about the whole battle and wouldn't know what to make of it. Then there was the fact that every god and goddess had sensed the battle in the Sanctuary. Saints battling Saints always attracted enemies. He wasn't sure who would come to the Sanctuary, but he knew it was only a matter of time.
Honestly the silent Shadows that haunted him and the Sanctuary had so far almost left his mind entirely. Almost. There was something far bigger than just all of these things going on, and he had many things to look after. He was the guardian of the Sanctuary, and while he had been a hostage for Arles many things had been hidden from his sight. He wasn't sure how close his enemies were. They could be here for all he knew! There were many things that were going on, and he felt like having been captured by Arles (though he hadn't had a choice once he had been ordered to do so and none of the other Saints blamed him for it) he had failed his duty for a while.
He let out a soft sigh, which sounded for him almost more like a slight huff of air rather than a sigh. However for Virgo, Saori as Athena knew that he was deeply troubled by a lot of things. She wrapped her thin hands around his arm and smiled sweetly at him. She would just have to coax the information out of him. She didn't want to order him to tell her, but she needed to know as well. If she knew Virgo (and Shun himself) he'd eventually tell her. She'd just have to be patient. At last the young Virgo Saint looked towards the young goddess.
"I have seen tragedy in a dream," he said. "Darkness is coming, a shadow I cannot name. There have already been attacks before, mainly against the Virgo Saint."
"Someone wants to get rid of you?" Saori asked, feeling yet another wave of protectiveness for the young Virgo Saint. "But why?"
"That is unclear," Shun replied. "However I do know that this darkness threatens not only the Sanctuary, but also the entire world. These shadows have begun their silent dance, always just out of my sight. Something ancient is moving, and it is powerful."
"Do any of the other Gold Saints know?" she asked. "You have always been in the front of the battle. I'd hate to just throw you blindly into battle, however they need to know if we're going to be prepared."
"They know that something is going on," Shun replied. "But I haven't really let them know yet. Arles was a much more pressing concern at the time."
"How close do our enemies grow?" Saori asked.
"Close enough for me to sense," Shun replied in an unhelpful manner. "but far enough away that I can't see them."
"I see," Saori said. She was able to interpret his cryptic language in meaning that he wasn't entirely sure. She hung her head and thought a moment.
She didn't want the Sanctuary to panic. She knew that Shun had probably hid this information from everyone with the same thing in his mind. However she should at least tell all of the Gold Saints so they could be prepared. She turned to Shun, who paused as he sensed her eyes on him. She didn't have to say anything. He already had a pretty good idea of what was going on. He nodded and sat down right where he was (which was just at the entrance of the temple). He then began to meditate, reaching out towards the Sanctuary.
Many minds that noticed his pass by seemed very fond of him suddenly, and he wasn't sure when that had happened. He supposed that there probably was a reason that they had been so unwilling to let him get hurt so it did make sense. He supposed that they were fond of him now. They greeted him quietly and gently, as if afraid they could hurt him. However he was on a mission.
He found Pisces Aphrodite first, who was helping to watch the borders. He was talking with several villagers of one of the many villages surrounding the Sanctuary and trying to calm them. He noticed Seiya was there with them, who seemed to be calming them down. Instantly as he sensed Shun's mind the Gold Saint froze. He heard through him the message that Athena was calling the Gold Saints. He quickly explained that he had to leave because Athena was calling, then he turned and made his way towards the temples.
Shun moved on, finding Aries Mu and Taurus Aldebaran speaking together. The two had created a strong friendship over the years, and they were rarely not together. They had been tending to the many wounded. There were many Saints who hadn't joined the rebellion, however they were more than glad to have Arles out of their hair so they weren't complaining about their injuries. Still the Gold Saints had been looking after the injured. His older brother (who was still out cold) was among that number. He paused a moment to check on him -because he couldn't really help it- before letting Mu sense his presence.
The silence that fell suddenly between the two Gold Saints who heard the young Virgo Saint's message was noticed by everyone, who looked to them questioningly. Mu however opened up his mind and shot Virgo's message like a lance through the minds of all the Gold Saints. Mu also had psychic powers but they were much different from Shun's own. Shun could now sense that the Gold Saints had all been alerted and were making their way through the area towards the temples. Mu turned his mind to greet Shun's gently.
Why did you alert them that way? Shun asked. It might have caused a panic.
You're not well enough to reach your mind out that far, Mu replied. You need as much rest as you can get. So when I sensed your mind I decided to finish your job for you.
I suppose I should thank you for that, Shun said quietly. However it was hardly necessary. Everyone is now on their way though, and the entire Sanctuary is now watching us. Maybe they won't be able to tell at all what we will be discussing, but it will be obvious that something is going on. I'd rather we not all move at the same time. That's why I was going so slowly.
It might have caused concern either way, Mu pointed out.
Yes you're probably right, Shun replied. Still, the concern is there. There's no point in worrying over it now though. What's done is done.
What are we discussing anyway? Mu asked, glancing towards the other Gold Saints who had joined him and Aldebaran who were making their way up through the temples. One of them had asked the same question.
My foresight.
At the reply Mu stopped dead in his tracks and he looked absolutely surprised by this information. The others all paused and turned to him. They weren't sure why he had just paused that way, however they were aware by how quiet he was being that he had been talking with Shun. They all asked what was wrong, but his face was suddenly grimly set. Mu of all people knew that Virgo's foresight was often dark and full of warnings. He moved forward with that same grim face, and the others followed with slightly worried expressions now. What had Shun said?
Shun's mind retreated until he returned to silently meditating withing Athena's temple. Saori was waiting silently and regally beside him. She was beautiful, the pure embodiment of the grace and strength of the Sanctuary. She waited with a kind and inviting smile as she waited for her Gold Saints to come. She had no doubt that they would. Soon the first made his way up onto the temple. Aphrodite moved bowed his head once to Virgo then turned to Saori, kneeling in front of her.
"Rise Pisces," she said in her gentle voice. "We have much to discuss. Please wait here with me for the others to arrive."
"Of course my lady," Aphrodite replied.
He stood and waited quietly off to the side, watching the road down towards the temples carefully. The Gold Saints would have no trouble passing his Rose Garden, so he wasn't worried about that. However he cast a glance towards the young Virgo Saint. What had he said that was so important that Athena would turn her attention to that instead of helping others? She usually didn't ever want to turn her back on anyone in need. Even as a Gold Saint (newly reincarnated himself, he was the second youngest of all of the Gold Saints and only Shun was younger) he knew this was the case. As he watched though, he was utterly startled by what he saw.
Shun suddenly stiffened and bristled as if against an invisible attack. Fearing something was amiss he bristled as well, and Saori turned to look in utter surprise. However then to unsettle them more, the boy's eyes opened. Aphrodite knew that they should have both been dead there and then, only Virgo's curse didn't take hold. They realized the boy's blue eyes were now shining, literally glowing as if with an unearthly light. Neither of them were entirely sure what was going on, and they could only watch in their confusion.
Shun knew exactly what was going on though. It was a vision, a premonition of the future. However it was powerful enough to slice right through his curse and force him to open his eyes to glimpse it. It was fueled by the sadness that hung around his cloth, and the Spirits that slept within it. That's how all of them began. However this one wasn't a normal premonition.
For one thing, Shun could have visions while he was awake but none were this clear. For another, well it had completely shattered through his curse. Though his eyes were open he didn't see the temple or the people within, he saw something else entirely. A powerful force had ripped through his entire curse. Something was looking to warn him, or more specifically someone.
The gods were worried. They had been concerned with Arles having been around, however they could sense the unease in the cosmos of the Saints, an instinctive knowledge that battle was coming. Gods and godesses were looking towards the skies. Even the God Warriors of Asgard were suddenly turning to look at the stars of the Saints. It was as if the entire world was reaching out, trying to understand. Something had greatly unsettled the armies of the gods, and thus Virgo felt it.
Shun knew what this was, though even in his memories it was a faint echo, little more than a myth. This kind of premonition hadn't come to Virgo in thousands upon thousands of years, so he knew there was a good chance that Saori and Aphrodite had no idea what was going on. The name of the power had been lost on him, however there were others who had the ability. Namely the twin gods of the underworld. They contacted him first.
He could sense their minds, just as startled as he was. The two seemed to realize that the boy was injured but made no threatening moves and only allowed their minds to join his when they were sure that he wasn't going to spook. Seeing inside his head they could see that he was very injured, and they were careful when examining his memories.
Sheer instinct made him want to bristle against the two gods, which made them nervous. They couldn't deny Virgo's strength. Carefully he looked into their minds as well, and it was the most powerful connection Shun had ever felt. He could hear everything they could somewhere within the halls of Hades' castle. He could hear several startled voices trying to get their attention. He could feel through their memories all that had happened.
The Holy Wars had first begun when Hades had suddenly turned from a peaceful god to a warlike and fierce one. Athena had always managed to stop his war (though obviously with many injuries and some that refused to heal) and he would retreat for 200 years. Zeus finally had to step in to ease his brother's wrath. It was soon discovered that the Titans had been nearly escaping from Tartarus, and the purpose of the wars was an instinctive need to drive the Titans back. The stronger his Specters, the stronger the seal. With the seal put back into place the anger had begun to abate.
The Underworld had been silent for many years and remained out of contact with the outside world. Their rage had disappeared now and they were admittedly ashamed of what they had done. It had been an ancient and terrible last resort defense of the Underworld and the sway it held over them was enough to turn them into war mongers. The two gods approached Shun's mind with this careful and apologetic mind set. But they too were curious as to what had happened.
They were surprised to find him again in the Sanctuary since last time they had checked he had been affected strongly by this curse of his and unable to return. They too felt a responsible for his curse, and they were pleased that at least part of it had lifted. They were also surprised at what they found in his heart and mind. He was not the silent and immovable Virgo Saint they had grown to know far too well. After a while of examining each others minds, the young Virgo Saint forced himself to fight down his instinct and relax. He could sense that they intended him and the Sanctuary no harm.
It has been many years Virgo, Thanatos greeted.
I hope you have been...well, Hypnos added quietly, unsure what else to say. There was bad blood between them.
No worse than before I suppose, the young Virgo Saint managed to reply.
There was some awkward silence, but other minds quietly joined them. First was Hilda, the lady of Odin and the god warriors. The young woman nervously hung back, and the others that joined them were soon doing the same. They were unsure how the twin gods of the Underworld and the Saint of Athena were going to react to one another. Seeing that nothing was forthcoming they carefully let their minds touch the others.
The god Poseidon was here, as well as an Angel (that is to say a member of Zeus' Angel army which rarely fought unless strictly needed). The Angel was a young woman who from what Shun could tell, was named Thea. Poseidon carefully seemed to watch the three who had first been here, and Hilda seemed nervous. However none of them really spoke now, simply letting their minds meld.
Most of them had never really had a mental connection before, and they weren't used to the direction their minds had to take. The only one who did was Hilda. The others seemed woefully unprepared for this strange phenomenon. Shun however gathered the other minds around him and sent his cosmos out quickly through the veil like a lance to reveal what they all had to see.
Instantly when he did, the mist like fog parted before their eyes. The images they saw made them all freeze in utter fear. It was less of a vision than an impression. They could see nothing but darkness and a snarling shape. It launched forward, becoming visible the instant before it disappeared. Shun instantly began to bristle in response. It was one of those jackal creatures from before. The fact that he knew what it was, or had at least seen one before, was unnerving to them.
However the darkness soon faded and they found themselves looking at a long grass field. As they watched stone rose from the ground, and not just any stone, but stone statues. The figures that they saw were easily recognizable. There was the Statue of Athena from the Sanctuary, the Statue of Hades from the Underworld, the Statue of Odin, the Statue of Poseidon, and the Statue of Zeus. They were all arranged in a circle, peacefully watching. However the statues suddenly moved apart, as if part of another vision, and a shadow fell across them, making them all fall. The last thing they all saw was sand blowing past.
Shun jumped as his mind was vaulted out of the vision as soon as it had come. He jumped and quickly closed his eyes before the light faded completely and his curse took hold again. He had seen Aphrodite and Saori watching him. He didn't want to accidentally kill them. Suddenly though he knew there was something he had to check.
He stood quickly, ignoring his aching body and ran. He didn't dare pause for a moment. It was rare to see Virgo run anywhere. He was so calm and wise and never in a hurry. So when the remaining Gold Saints walked in to see him running through the temple with a startled Athena and Pisces following after them they instantly took off in pursuit. This wasn't something that was normal, and they could only wonder what it could mean.
They called after him, trying to get his attention and ask what was wrong. They were highly unnerved to see him acting this way. However he knew he couldn't ignore what he was feeling. There was something far more to this than just coincidence. That shared vision was far too powerful to be something he could ignore. He ran until he reached the courtyard where Athena's statue watched over the entire Sanctuary. And he couldn't help but pull up to a stop as he sensed the sheer power here. Though he couldn't see it, he could sense it.
The others who had been following him all skid to a stop as well and looked up in alarm and utter surprise. This was absolutely unheard of. The statue of Athena stood as normal, but what was unnatural was that there were more than one statues here. The Sanctuary (as every other base of the gods) had Statues of all of the gods. The largest were of Athena, Odin, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus since wars often ignited between these groups. However the statues had apparently moved on their own. They knew that powerful magic was attached to each of these statues, but the fact that they had moved was unnerving to the Gold Saints.
And the statues were all crying. Tears of blood poured down all of their faces. They were arranged in a perfect circle, all looking at one another. Shun couldn't help but begin to bristle. Of all of the visions he had ever had, this one seemed the most blatantly obvious. The Gold Saints all turned to look at him in great confusion, but his reaction unnerved them more.
"What is this?" Saori gasped. "Shun what happened?"
"War is coming," he replied, though he wasn't sure where the words had suddenly come from. "The Titan's Tribunal has been called again."
"The Titan's Tribunal?" Saori asked. The word seemed familiar to her, but she couldn't think of where it came from. Mu however froze abruptly.
"You're sure?" he gasped. "You're absolutely sure?"
"I have seen it,"
"When?"
"Just now,"
Mu was even more surprised, but Shun's face was far to serious to be lying. Mu quietly turned to Aphrodite and asked what had happened, listening intently to the tale of what had happened. Saori and the other Gold Saints except for Shun turned to look at Mu, who was basically their expert on forgotten and ancient legends and texts. He shook his head a little.
"It was what is known as a Shared Premonition," Mu told them. "It has happened only a few times in history. It was first set into place when, while trying to understand what was going on, several members of the armies reached out and touched the mists where premonitions come from. This mass of minds was able to pierce the veil farther than ever, and what has been seen cannot be ignored."
"So Shun had a Shared Premonition?" Saori asked. "But why now? What triggered it?"
"I assume that it had something to do with the fact that everyone is so nervous," Mu said. "I think we've all felt it, from every army. Something moves within the Shadows. Only Virgo has sensed it longer than most."
"Alright," Aldebaran said, motioning to the statues. "Then how do you explain this?"
"It's the Titan's Tribunal," Mu replied. "So named because once, long before the Holy Wars that erupted because the Titans nearly escaped, the Titans had escaped. Their army had been subdued and their locks have been carefully guarded. However to defeat them the strongest armies had gathered together and fought to save the world of the gods from the Titans. These statues were only summoned when a meeting would take place."
"But no one summoned them," Aphrodite cried. "How can they be here?"
"I have no idea," Mu replied, shaking his head. "Magic, psychic powers, the cosmos, they're mysterious things. They're part of our lives but we have no way to explain them other than they just are. Perhaps they were summoned because somehow we just know that we need such help? I can't be certain."
"Shun did say that darkness is coming," Saori said thoughtfully. "That something ancient and powerful is moving. However I don't know what."
"Could it be the Titans again?" Shura of Capricorn asked.
"No," Shun instantly replied. "It is far more ancient. They existed before us in a realm of sand. And they want the world back."
The Gold Saints all looked at each other, trying to figure something out. However they had little information to go off of. They were each trying to silently think of where this part about the sand came from, but even Shun didn't seem to have any idea. His premonition hardly made any sense even to himself. However he did know that what he'd just said was true.
"This Tribunal," Saori said, turning to Shun. "Is it necessary."
"If it fails," Shun said darkly. "The world will fall to darkness." She nodded resolutely.
"Then we must form it immediately," she said. She turned to her Gold Saints. "Go now and prepare. I suspect we'll have many visitors very soon. We'll continue to do what we've been doing, however now you'll need to be ready for battle at any time. I've learned to trust Virgo's premonitions now. They've never failed."
"Yes ma'am," the Gold Saints called.
They knew this very well as well. Before Virgo's curse had been placed he had predicted betrayal and heartache would follow him, and that his goddess would forsake him. They had refused to believe him then. Why would Athena forsake him? And yet that premonition had come true with heartbreaking accuracy. They would never again doubt his foresight. It had cost them dearly in the past, even before his curse.
Saori took a step froward, holding her scepter in her hand and gently lacing her fingers into the boy's. She couldn't help but watch him sadly. The whole world was resting on his shoulders now, and she wasn't sure what she was going to do. She was sad that he had to bare so much on his shoulders. And right after defeating Arles too. This wasn't a happy time for them, not with so much death and destruction. But they were now being forced from one battle to the next.
"This time," she said quietly, not as Saori Kido, but as Athena. "we'll do it together." The Virgo Saint nodded, but it was obvious that his premonition was bothering him greatly.
Kind of a random chapter to come back on, however this story will get better as things start to heat up. And next chapter we'll get to meet an OC of mine. She's the specter that was Virgo's sister, and she's a very special (and not very well known) specter for a reason.
Anyway I hope you guys enjoyed and thanks for being so patient with all of my mess. I'm back updating again (obviously). So I hope you all enjoyed this chapter after the long break.
