A/N: I'm sorry but the hiatus is still not over :( I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and so I decided to update before I leave. This chapter is short, I know, I wrote this chapter three times. Three times. And I still don't like it. There was supposed to be a lot more in this chapter, but I just could write it down properly. I will be leaving for the whole of August, and will only return on the 9th next month. That means I would be missing a week worth of school work, so I really need time to catch up. So i'm sorry, but it might take time to update.

Also a big thanks to Chuppachups for taking the time to write a French translation of my story! You are awsome!

The air outside the mansion was cold, and sent shivers down her spine. The moon was out, a beautiful silver crescent, weaved into the pitch black sky. The wind blew the monotonous chanting to her ears.

She took a step forward and held out her hand. The Witch took it and held it above the fire. Sweat ran down the back of Elizabeth Forbes neck as the middle aged Witch drew a small blade out from behind her and gently brought it down to her palm. The blade pierced Elizabeth's skin, and drew out blood. Letting the hand go, she allowed the blood spill into the fire. The burning embers blazed brightly, and the Witch began to chant once again.

In the dark shadows, watching silently from a little further away, Klaus stood impatiently, growing more anxious by the second. After this spell, he would be able to see Caroline once again. He had been very aware of her absence, and that feeling didn't quiet settle with him. Now finally, maybe that feeling would subside.

The wind around the trio picked up, as the chanting grew louder and louder. The Witch's hair whipped around her face as she felt her magic grow stronger and stronger within her. It was a burst of energy that filled her soul. A rapid fire that burned through her body, making her fingers tremble with excitement.

Then, just as quickly as it had come, it was gone.

The wind slowed down and the light of the fire diminished, leaving the outdoors, only lit by the faint glow of the moon.

Klaus stood straighter. "What happened, Witch?"

But the Witch didn't answer; she instead, collapsed onto the ground, heaving in pain.

Klaus was at her side in an instant, roughly jerking her up. "What. Happened." He growled.

She heaved and turned away, coughing out blood. "The spell…" She said weakly. "I c-can't..."

His fists clenched tighter around her throat, raising her off the ground. "WHAT HAPPENED!?"

The Witch gasped out in desperation, blood trickling from her nose. "I-It is... I can't find... please..." She choked out, frantically clawing at his hands.

"Klaus! Let her go!" Elizabeth cried.

Inhaling shakily through his nose, he loosened his grip around her throat slightly, allowing her to breath. "I want her location, Witch." He gritted out.

"There's a barrier surrounding her that I can't break through with my magic." She panted. "It's too strong... its-its dark magic! I can't fight against dark magic Klaus, the Spirits-"

"I don't bloody care what the Spirits have to say. All I want is Caroline's location, and you will find it!" He snarled.

"I'm not strong enough..."

"Then you're useless." He readied himself to snap her neck and end her.

"Don't!" Elizabeth cried.

Turning a deaf ear to her plea, he raised both hands to the Witch's neck ready to break it then and there, before a volley of barks interrupted him.

The distraction made all three of them avert their attention to the diminutive puppy, running hurriedly to where they were standing.

The Witch was the first to react.

"That dog..." she whispered.

Hearing her, Klaus' anger returned once again as he brought his stare back to the Witch. His anger blinded him and he failed to notice the way her pupils had dilated, and how she seemed to be in a trance. He didn't listen to a word she said. He didn't hear her hushed whispers upon viewing distance from Care. He just wrapped his fingers around her neck, and with one twist, he snapped it.

"NO!" Elizabeth yelled.

Care stood frozen to the spot with her eyes wide. No matter how many times she had seen people being killed, even if she was used to it, she still just couldn't bear to feel absolutely nothing. Even when watching Klaus feed, it was not like she was absolutely accustomed to it. She still felt sick to some point, just... not as much as before.

He dropped the Witch's corpse unceremoniously onto the ground.

Elizabeth winced slightly, catching the attention of Care for the first time. For a moment, she stared at her mother in disbelief. She just stared and stared as if to make sure she were real.

What was she doing here? With Klaus of all people? Were the others here? Were they planning an ambush?

Her mind raced with so many questions. Finally, she barked and ran up to her mother.

Elizabeth looked startled for a bit. She didn't like dog's so much. But her job as sheriff had forced her to work with them. She watched as the puppy ran towards her in excitement.

Caroline couldn't believe it! Her mother was here! She hadn't seen her in almost two weeks! In her excitement, she just couldn't help but running around her mother's legs in circles as she barked happily.

Elizabeth slowly bent down and held her hand out to the puppy. But Care's barking abruptly stopped, as her enhanced senses caught the tell-tale smell of blood. And it wasn't coming from the woman whom Klaus had just killed either.

It was coming from her mom.

Caroline stared at the cut on the palm of her mother's hand. It wasn't a really deep cut, but she was bleeding. It didn't look like an accident either. Care subconsciously growled.

She turned an accusatory stare at Klaus, who was just standing there, staring at her and Elizabeth. She smelled smoke in the air.

What had happened here?

"You didn't have to kill her..." Her mother said, gravely.

Klaus finally spoke. "She was of no use. She couldn't find your daughter."

Care was baffled. Daughter? Where do I come into this? She thought.

"There could have been another way!" Elizabeth said.

"You heard her yourself; she wasn't strong enough to do the spell. She was weak and of no use."

Suddenly it hit Care. A spell! They were doing a spell out here! Maybe that's why her mother was here.

Klaus didn't say anything more as he walked past them towards the mansion, leaving them behind.

A long silence stretched out as Elizabeth stared at the corpse.

Caroline wanted to do something. She wanted to talk to her mother. Tell her that she's alright. That her daughter is right here…

But Caroline had long since given up on making people figure out who she was. It was a given that no one would understand. If she were still in human form, she would have never guessed that, that random puppy on the road was actually that girl who had been missing for two weeks.

So she decided to be quiet and just sit there next to her mother, and be happy that she knew her mother was okay, that Bonnie hadn't hurt anyone else she cared for.

Sighing deeply, Elizabeth decided to leave.

Caroline let her.
