For Laura Logan it had been too long since she had seen her friend and her beloved Junior. Hours of pleading with Peter and Johnny had just resulted in her being banished from the operations room. So, she decided to take things into her own hands.
The hanger bay was empty when Laura snuck down to it in full mission gear. She climbed aboard the SHIELD quinjet that was temporarily parked there. Fury Jr. surely wouldn't miss the jet if she brought it back in a few hours would he?
The jet came to life just as a number of the team ran into the hanger bay. They screamed at her to stop as she opened the hanger doors. Clint was yelling at Tony who was trying to do something on his tablet. Laura didn't give them the chance. She piloted the jet out of the hanger and set her landing point near where her father and Bucky had parked their jet during the observation stage. They were on their way home now; she had the base all to herself.
She thought over her plan throughout the trip. Originally, she had just planned on infiltrating the base and checking on Sarah and Junior. However the longer she thought about it, the more she was certain she should rescue Sarah at the very least. Junior had told her that Sarah had been resting comfortably for the past few days; she was surely back to strength and could handle a break out mission. At least that's what Laura hoped.
Sarah could hear an odd noise up in the air vents. She peered up to see a pair of eyes staring down at her. Maggie, who had just spotted the eyes, screamed in fright. Sarah pulled her close and pulled out her brother's knife to protect them.
"Oh please," the owner of the eyes said, "you won't need that."
"Laura!" Sarah released Maggie and used a chair to climb up to the vent. She brought it down and Laura slipped out of it. "What are you doing here?"
"I had to see you and Junior. Where is he?" Laura asked.
"On a mission," Sarah replied as she put the vent back into place. "You shouldn't be here. This place is very dangerous." Laura ignored her and looked over at Maggie. The teenager was bearing her teeth and had two knives in her hands. "Maggie this is Junior's girlfriend Laura."
"Fiancée actually," Laura corrected. Sarah looked over to her sharply. "He asked me over the phone." Sarah grinned at the prospect of having a sister-in-law.
"So she's a good person?" Maggie confirmed as she loosened her hold on the knives. Sarah nodded and Maggie set them down on the table. "I'm Margret Carter, but everyone calls me Maggie."
"Carter?" Laura asked and looked over at Sarah. "As in?"
"Yeah, clone," Sarah replied swiftly. "Laura you have to get out of here before Schmidt finds you."
"I'm not going to leave you here," Laura countered. "I've seen the pictures of your back, I'm not leaving you." Sarah shook her head fiercely. "What?"
"I'm barely up to strength Laura. If something happens I'll just be a hindrance," Sarah said.
"Are you well enough to use the vents?" Laura asked.
"Probably," Sarah said with a shrug. "My hand is a little bum still but I could do it."
"Then the only place we have to run from is the garage to the woods," Laura told her. "Please Sarah; I can't just leave you here again." Sarah looked over at Maggie. This could be their only chance to get her out before the Skull tried to kill her.
"Maggie gear up," Sarah ordered and went to her brother's bag of goodies. She pulled out a set of knives and a pistol. Laura was already lowering the vent while Maggie was bundling up. Laura had told them how cold it was but Sarah didn't have much for clothes. She layered up but she doubt that would help.
Laura climbed up first and pulled Maggie up after her. Sarah bounced on the bed and jumped up into the duct where Maggie caught her and pulled her in. Sarah pulled the vent closed and nodded to Laura. The trio started down the air ducts with Laura in the lead.
The path to the garage was a long one. It became harder to travel once the ducts started to slope but Sara pushed Maggie ahead while Laura used her claws to create small handholds. It all ended with them at the garage pushed up next to the vent.
"That's a long run," Maggie whispered. Sara was watching the rotation of guards. "How are we going to make it without being seen?"
"I don't know," Sara replied. She pushed the vent out and lowered it to the ground. Maggie slipped out followed by Laura and Sarah. Sarah put the vent back in place and hid Maggie down the line. Sarah looked at Laura.
"Laura," Sarah whispered. The mutant looked at her. "I'm going to create a distraction, get Maggie out of here."
"I'm not going to leave you behind! They'll kill you," Laura countered.
"Better me than her," Sarah replied looking over at Maggie. "I'll go as far as the guard tower, once there you two will have a better shot of reaching the woods."
Then Maggie screamed. Both women spun around to see a guard standing over her with a knife. Sarah jumped and protected her young charge only to take the knife to her shoulder.
"Laura, take her and go!" Sarah ordered. Laura pulled Maggie off the ground and started to run. Sarah followed after dispatching the guard. She started to fire at the other guards and followed behind Laura and Maggie. They reached the fence and Sara threw Maggie over the fence. "Laura take care of her," Sarah said again before throwing Laura over the fence with the last of her strength. She fell to the ground as the bullets started to fly. "Go! Damn it Laura take her and go!" Laura stared at her for a good half a second before grabbing Maggie and hauling ass up the hill. Sarah threw her gun away and put her hands on her head. Maggie was gone, she was safe, and they had no one to use against Sarah for now. She could die happy with that.
Laura threw Maggie into a seat and locked her down before starting the jet. The kid was swearing up a storm and pleading for her to go back but Laura wouldn't listen. Sarah had given her an order and she would follow it.
The whole League and the rest of the Earth bound Avengers were waiting for her when she arrived. Clint stormed the plane with Logan only to stop at the sight of Maggie and the sobbing Laura.
"What happened?" Peter demanded coming up.
"I almost had her," Laura cried. "I almost had her. One damn electrified fence and a few wounds! That's all that stood between her and freedom!" Logan couldn't be mad and pulled Laura into his arms. Laura looked at Maggie. "Sarah wanted me to get her out. Her name is Maggie Carter, she was in Sara's care. Clone of Peggy." Maggie was hysterical in her seat. Sharon came forward with Bruce and pulled the sobbing teen from her seat. This was bad, this was very bad.
So, I have a question that I pose to all of you. I have watched Captain America 2 and I had been working on a story where Steve had a biological daughter with Peggy through odd circumstance and she knows most of the major players in the Marvel universe and ends up hooked up with a certain brunette from the past. I was wondering if anyone would like to read a story like that. I play with a few things in the universe and I'm thinking about ignoring Thor 2 in that continuum but I'm curious on what you all think.
Review please. And thank Caleb (a guest reviewer) for even reminding me that I had a story going because his review a while back had my brain going "You have a story to work on" constantly. So yeah.
Have a good day/night.
