Keeper was still teaching me about herbs. I quickly looked up to peer through the whole in the ceiling. The sun was already gone from view but I cast its light about some hundred feet away from us. "Is something wrong?" I snapped out of staring up to look at Keeper. He had stopped his teachings and now stared at me.
I thought for a moment. "Yes, I course everything is alright." I answered.
Keeper did not seem convinced at all. "You sure?" He asked. "You looked up. I assume you weren't listening."
"I was," I protested.
"Then what did I say?" Keeper asked.
"You said that marigold is good to keep infections away. Aloe Vera is great for dry, itchy skin. It can even help with sunburns and other minor burns." I thought for a moment. "Then there is burdock great to get rid of infections that have already accused. Lavender is great to calm the nervous or in shock feelings."
Keeper nods. "Alright, you were listening." He said. "I was just making sure my lessons are not being wasted since you looked like your mind isn't even here."
"It happens." I told him. "Sometimes, I even surprise my own teachers. They think I do not pay attention. I showed them most of the time that I was."
He nods. "We will stop for today." He said. "We need to check on the monitors and see if the Rangers are down with their job above ground." I nodded as I rose to my feet. Keeper led the way while I stuck beside him. I kind of tend to follow him around now. I do that a lot with someone I trust enough.
In the base, I noticed that Kendall was already on the computer, and the Rangers were talking to one another. It kind of sounds like Shelby and Chase were both having some sort of argument. I rolled my eyes. It must be something small and nothing to worry about. Keeper and I made our way to Kendall instead. She looks at me not pleased but said nothing about it. "There is no readings at the moment." Kendall reports. She flicks her eyes between Keeper and me. She then whispers something to Keeper. Both of them looked at me.
"I need to talk to Kendall." Keeper said. "Why don't you get to know the others better?" I did not want to leave his side, but I knew it could be important. I nodded as I made my way over to the others.
Chase was listening to his music while messing with his skateboard. This time on the seats that typically looked like crates. He had gotten in trouble for fixing his skateboard on the lab table last time. Shelby had gone to talk to Tyler about something. Riley was practicing combat with his sword against the tennis machine. Koda was no where to be seen. I decided to sit away from the others as they did their thing. I observed Riley mostly. He was really good a reflecting away the tennis balls that shot out the machine. I wished I was that good.
I felt a hand in my shoulder. I yelped with fright. Looking over my shoulder, I saw Koda. He was the only one doing nothing. "You okay?" He asked.
I nodded. "Yeah, why?" I asked.
"You were staring. You did not look pleased." Koda said.
Well, there went me and my thinking time. Or alone time as you could say. "I was only thinking about something." I said not really sure what else I was supposed to say.
"About what?" Koda asked. He was obviously curious.
"Just stuff." I said feeling a little irritated, though, I did not show it. Koda did not seem convinced. He knew he wasn't going to get anything out of me so he walked away from me. At that moment, Keeper and Kendall both walked back into the room.
Kendall looked at me then turned away. "I think it is time you all should leave." She told the team. The only one not leaving was Koda and me. The team looked at one another confused. They did not argue. They got up and left through the glass doors. I looked at Keeper confused. As always, he had no expression that gave away what he was thinking. I looked away. I noticed Koda was looking at Keeper and me with confusion. "Well," Kendall began. "I talked to Keeper about you. We have come up with that you can stay and work down here." She wanted to say more, but knew better than speak about whatever it was. "I don't want you fiddling around while I am here. You are to work, not play." She turns to Keeper. "I am heading out for the night." She turns to pack her things then leaves us along.
I sat where I was, Koda was confused, and Keeper stood the not knowing what to say. "What happened?" Koda asked.
"We simply talked about Silver and her behavior." Keeper replies. "Kendall doesn't seem to like her."
I am sitting right here. I thought irritated. I did not dare say anything.
"Then we try and have Kendall and her take a day where they do things?" Koda asked.
Keeper nods to Koda. "My plan exactly." He said. He then looks to me. "How do you feel about Kendall and you get to know one another while being out doing different things?"
"I say it is a mouse-brained idea." I answered.
"Why so?" Keeper asked. He looked upset that his plan might not work.
I looked away blushing. "She and I won't get along." I finally answered.
"That is why we suggest you spend a day together." Keeper pointed out. "You may get to know each other if you do so." He sits beside me. "And if it doesn't work, you don't have to do that again."
I thought of it for a moment. Reluctantly, I nodded. "Very well, I agreed." That dream of seeing Keeper upset made my heart ache. No way was I planning to have that come true. I really wanted to hug him, but that would through Koda and Keeper off.
"Thank you, Silver." Keeper said sounding pleased. Hearing him pleased made me feel better. My heart felt better hearing that he was happy. I really did not want to spend a day with Kendall, but if it made Keeper happy, I will do it.
Anything to make you happy. I silently told myself.
"Great!" Koda said cheerfully. "Silver will be with Kendall all day tomorrow." Koda yawned. He turns to his cave. I guessed to go to sleep. I blinked on how quick that moment was. I could not tell time where I was. I looked over to Keeper confused. He looked surprised at Koda's sudden departure.
He looks back to me and smiled. "Why don't you turn in?" He suggested. "I will call Kendall now and let her know about the plan."
I felt reluctant to leave his side. "You sure?" I asked nervously.
"Positive," he replies.
I hugged him. "Night, Keeper." I said as he hugged me back.
"Sleep well," he said.
I then rose to my feet making my way over to the tunnel that led into the underground habitat. I walked through the tunnels now realizing how much there were on the walls filled with fossils of all kinds. I was glad there were none of theses fossils in the habitat, or it would have been haunting. I made my way over to my covered bedding. Sitting in front of my bedding, I looked up to the dying light. Already, the habitat was looking more and more ominous. I yawned tiredly. To me, this was a sign I should go to bed, but I wanted to wait for Keeper. I decided I would wait in my bedding. I moved the leaving coverings away then getting into my bedding. I curled up ready to sleep, but doing my best not to fall asleep.
Next thing I new, I was running from a bunch of people. They were shooting at me. My heart was racing as I ran for my life. Man where they bad at aiming. I found a sewage barred location. The opening was big enough for me to enter. I rant through the sewage, scared out of my mind. Soon, I reached the end. It was barred here too. I slip through, holding on to the bars just in case I slipped. I seemed to be out of their range for they did not shoot at me anymore. That did not mean they were not following me, though. I looked down to see a death drop. Looking around, there were more barred sewages leading everywhere at different levels. I found a level slightly higher than mine, but was the closest. I did not look back. Fearfully, I took a deep breath before lunging into the air toward the closest barred sewage. I actually was expecting to miss. I clutched on to the bars. Quickly, I scrabbled up then slipped through the bars. I ran down the watery way, soaking my legs and pants with the water. I was sos out of breath, but I could not stop now. What if they were still on my tail?
I burst out into the open. A small field of grass with a house to my left. Ahead, there was another sewage line I could go through. I made a run for it. I most likely was on the police records for some unknown reason. I don't want to stick around to know what it was. In my mind, I am innocent. As I reached the base of the sewage line, it was too high for me to jump or haul myself up. Gladly, there was a small shed to my left. I used this to my advantage. I skillfully jumped onto the roof and turned to the sewage line. I grabbed the bars ready to hop in. "Silver!" I hear a familiar voice of a woman. I panicked and dove for hiding, abandoning the idea of hopping into the sewage. I hid under a roof. "Silverwind!" I hear her call my name again. I crouched fearfully. "I know you are there!" She sounded angry. I did not budge. "Silverwind!" I still did not budge. "Come out of hiding!"
I was suddenly woken by someone. I jumped yelping fearfully. I looked around my surroundings to see the darkness of my sleeping area. I felt completely confused. Looking over, I jumped at the sight of Keeper. He had a worried look. I sat up looking as confused as ever. I saw the flickering of the camp fire, so I assumed it was still dark out. "Why did you wake me?" I asked, though, I was glad he did.
"You had a nightmare did you not?" He asked.
"Yeah?" I answered not sure what to say other then that.
"What was it about?" He looks game curious.
I blinked at him. I then pulled my knees to my chest, resting my chin on the knees. "It was just a bad dream, nothing significant or has anything to do with the team."
"It might." Keeper pointed out.
I sighed heavily. "I was running away. There were people shooting at me." I finally decided to say something. "I ran through a set of sewer systems and came out to a place where I heard my mother call my name. That is when you woke me." I looked at Keeper expecting him to say something or reassure that it won't happen. Instead, he was thinking. I blinked in silence.
Keeper finally looked at me with thought. "Are you alright to go back to sleep?" He asked.
I thought for a moment. Usually it would take me a while to even get back to sleep at all after a bad dream. "I don't know." I told him.
Keeper thought for only a few seconds. He looked like he was hesitating about something. "Would you like to sleep with me the rest of the night?" He asked. He did not sound very determined.
I was surprised he even offered that. "Your sure?" I asked. I did not want to sleep with him if it made him uncomfortable.
"I am offering it, am I not?" He asked. I nodded slowly unsure. He retreated from my sleeping area. I hesitated for a few moments before actually following him to his sleeping area. My heart pounding as I neared his bedding. I hated it when I get this way toward guys I liked.
As I got to his sleeping area, I looked at him expecting him to get in first. This felt so weird. Especially when I was going to sleep with a guy. I watched as Keeper took my hint. He got onto his bedding then lay down. He made sure there was room for me as well. I soon took my spot beside him, my heart racing. Can he see me blushing in this dim light? As I lay down, my heart nearly stopped when he wrapped an arm around me. This took me by surprise. "This feels so weird." I randomly said.
"How so?" Keeper asked.
Since my back was toward him, I looked over my shoulder. "Well, I never really slept with a guy." I replied. I remembered last night. "Er… I mean before I lived here." Keeper smiles in amusement. He looked as if he knew something that I did not. "What?" I asked confused.
"You expression when you sleep with me." He said. I could clearly hear his amusement in his voice as well. "Have you not noticed that I already know?"
My heart quickened. Did he really know I liked him. I mean, it was practically announced in front of the others that I had liked him, but did he know I liked more than what I said to the team? "And what would that be?" I acted dumb.
Keeper's expression dimmed. "You know what I mean" he said.
I stiffened. Did I get him mad? I hope not. "I am not sure what you mean." I said honestly.
Keeper sighed, but his amused tone came back. "You like me more than what you told the others."
I blinked at him. "I don't…"
"Don't lie to me." He cut me off. He did not sound pleased. "You don't think I see you turning red or feel your heart race when you slept with me last night?" My eyes widened. "You practically are doing the same thing right now." He sounded angry.
"Please don't get mad." I said. "I don't want you to get mad at me."
It was Keeper's turn to blink with confusion. "Mad?" He asked. I nodded nervously. "I am not mad. I may not be pleased you kept these feelings from me, but I can't be mad."
I sighed with relief. "So now that you know the truth…" I thought for a moment. "What are you going to do with the but of information?"
"Nothing," he replies. "If I told the others, how would that make you feel? Plus, Kendall would not be pleased to know the news." I thought of what he said. It was true. I would try and hide.
I shifted so I was fully facing him. I rested my head next to his chest. "Thank you." I said happily. This was still weird to know that he knew about my true feelings toward him. "Is this why you offered me to sleep with you?" I nervously asked.
"You had a bad dream. That, and yes." Keeper replied. "You can't hide everything from me." Hearing his tone lighten up made me feel much better. Hearing him calm and happy makes me happy. If he is mad, I will be worried. I did not want my dream to come true.
I sighed fearfully. "You remember last night, right?" I asked. "When I sat in front of you and you woke?"
"Yes," he answers.
"There was a reason for that, and the fact that I got scared when you sounded mad." I was so scared. Should I really be telling him this?
"What happened?" He asked. "You can tell me anything, you know that."
I nodded. "I had a bad dream last night too." I began. "You seemed unhappy about something. When I was watching what you were doing, you pushed me away. Not physically," My words were caught in my throat. I was about ready to cry thinking of the dream, "...but by words."
"Is that why were apologizing for what you did last night?" He asked surprised. Of course this would be news to him. I nodded slowly. "If I ever get mad, it will never be toward you. Well, I could get irritated, but never mad."
"Where you irritated when you were training me?" I asked remembering earlier today about him not being pleased that I dodged instead of blocking.
He agreed. "I was irritated you did the opposite of what I said, but it was your first day. You showed what I expected."
"And that would be?" I asked curiously.
"Your reflexes." He said. "If you did not have good reflexes, you would not be able to dodge. All we need to to now is train you not to always dodge but block too." I nodded. "Now let's get some sleep."
"I don't want to sleep," I accidentally muttered out loud.
"You need your sleep, as do I." Keeper said, worry edged his voice.
I stiffened a little. His words rang through my mind: Say something before it gets worse. I swallowed nervously. Thank the gods I was snuggling my face in his robe, or he would have seen me blush. "I don't want to sleep for morning will come, and I can't do this when we are around the others." My heart ached thinking I can't find comfort whenever I needed it.
Keeper tightened his grip around me. "If you need the reassurance, let me know and we can always come back." He told me. "Do you really find comfort when you are around me?" He voice sounded surprised when he said that.
I nodded. "Yes," that was all I could reply.
I opened my eyes to the bright shaft of light seeping through the the opening in the habitat ceiling. I guessed I had fallen asleep. I did not move from my spot. Keeper was laying on his back sleeping, while I had rested me head in his chest. One of his arms were around me. I could practically hear his heart beat. I closed my eyes listening. For some odd reason, I find hearing someone's heart beat, usually from the ones I care for and love. In this case, it was Keeper's. His breathing was calm and steady as should be for a person who was fully asleep. I lay as still as I could doing my best not to wake him. It wasn't easy when you slept all night and was now stiff. I couldn't help myself my stretch my legs. He moved a bit as I did so. I froze fearing I woke him. When he lay still again, I brought my legs slow to a relaxed position. I closed my eyes again.
I was standing in a forest. The same one where that volcanic cave was. I looked around before proceeding forward. A branch from the tree rustled. I whipped around to see the tree. It was still ominously shaking. I narrowed my eyes momentarily. Deciding to believe it was just the wind, I continued forward. What was odd was that I just realized I had Keeper's staff in my hand. I stared at it. A twig snapped from behind me. I whirled around, Keeper's staff at the ready. My eyes widened as I saw who it was. Keeper's staff was aiming directly at Eye Shock. He looked stunned for a moment. His eyes were wide with fear. "I thought the Rangers destroyed you?" I asked half fearfully half irritated.
Eye Shock's expression changed to an evil grin. He put an arm on top of the staff and leaned in it. I was surprised that he wasn't saying the staff down at all. He looked at his claws as if nothing seemed to bother him. "Oh dear beloved dragon, I never left." He sneered. "With my power running through your veins, I am as much alive as you are." I blinked and he was gone. I gripped Keeper's staff even more looking to where that monster could have gone. "You have no clue what you are capable of, reptile." I looked toward his voice. He was sitting in at tree.
"What do you mean?" I asked wearily. I was probably not going to like his answer.
"With every blood you drop, every hair you lose," he momentarily pauses. I guessed for dramatic effect. "Every love you give," he grinned as he emphasized the word 'love'. My heart quickens at the thought."The more you give, the more I live." He voice chuckles as he vanishes. His voice was now whispering next to my ear. "Give love, reptile, for soon I will return and you will obey my every whim."
I sat up fearfully, yelping as if I had gotten hit hard. I heard Keeper suddenly wake from my started yelp. "What is wrong, Silver?" He asked. Worry edged his voice as clear as day. I heard him sit up. Without thinking, I turned to him and began to cry. Keeper wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace. "What happened that frightened you?"
"He's back," I whimpered fearfully. My heart pounding in fear. Keeper's gripped tightened more. I knew he was not pleased with what happened.
"Who is back?" He asked as calmly as he could. There was no hiding what he truly felt. He was nervous as well.
"Eye Shock," I sobbed. "He said that ever love I give, the more he lives." I told him what I remembered. "And that when he returns, I will be under his control with his every command." I only said that since that same sentenced repeated in my mind. "Keeper, I am scared."
He did what he could to sooth me. "We will find a way to stop this." He retracted from me. "Your nails are scratching me." He said. He narrowed his eyes. "Let me see you hands." Fearfully, I rose my hands. Each hand were covered in white scales. Each finger had black eagle-like claws. My eyes widened. I was starting to panic. "Silver, calm down." He told me. "It won't do us any good if we panic."
I stared at him with even more surprise. "You're hurt!" I squeaked, worried.
Keeper touched were I had dug my claws into him. Removing his hand, small amounts of blood stained his hand. He was obviously surprised from this. I could smell the string tang of blood for some odd reason.
"I am so sorry!" I said. "I did not mean too…"
"Calm down," He ordered. I stood still. "It was not your fault."
"Yes it is!" I wailed.
Keeper rested a hand on each of my shoulder. He looked at me in the eyes. "Calm down. I am fine." I was not reassured at all. "Now, take a deep breath. It is only a scratch. It will heal." He searched through his satchel taking out a few herbs. He quickly turned it into a poultice. My heart was still pound as guilt rushed through my veins. Noticing this, Keeper tries to reassure me with a smile. "Do you want to help?" He asked. I nodded slowly as I helped finish the poultice. As I was doing so he moved away from my side. I panicked when he left my side. I tried to look over to see if he was okay. "Continue what you are doing." He calmly instructed. I returned to what I was doing. I was shaking so bad, I couldn't control it. I was literally shaking like a leaf. "Is it ready?" He asked.
I stopped, looking at the dark green pulp. "Yes," my voice quivered. I kept repeating to myself sorry to him, though, he could not hear. I mentally beat myself up.
"Alright," Keeper said. "Go get some water." I nod as I stopped with the poultice. "You might need this." He hands me a small bowl. Man, he was prepared for this situation. I grabbed it and ran toward the river. My heart pounding in my chest. Once there, I filled the bowel up with the water. I was heavily panting. The water was icy cold. I relished in the cold temperature. I turned and made my way back to the sleeping area, careful not to spill the water.
As I got back, Keeper looked up. "That was fast." I was not panting anymore. "Let's get it applied." He said, though, there was an edge of uncertainty about something. I nodded as I took my former spot taking the pulped herbs and turned, half looking down, half looking what I was doing. "Just apply it and I should be good to go." I nodded. I looked at him. I completely turned red. His cloak was half off, just sitting around his waist. I panicked. He obviously saw this amusing. "Come on, you wanted to learn about herbs and their usage, this is a good time to learn." I could almost hear laughter in his voice. I gulped nervously. I was about to apply the poultice on. "You might want clean the blood off first." He mused. Why was I doing everything? I thought fearfully. I grabbed the cloth he had apparently set down for me. I used it, got it wet then started to wash the blood off with as much less water as I could. I saw him wince once I got to the scratches. I stopped, my eyes widening in fear. "I'm fine." He reassures. "Just continue." I finished cleaning the blood away. I nervously started to apply the poultice over the scratches I gave him. I only concentrated what I was doing. It was hard not to stop blushing. Man, this was similar to my dream, except he had a towel on instead. Even that made me blush and panic. I saw him wince, again. I guessed I was putting too much pressure on the scratch. I lightened the pressure. As I finished, I did not look up at him. I stared off to my side. "What is the matter?" He asked. What was I supposed to tell him? That I felt weird in his current state? I shook my head. "You don't have to help if you don't want to." He told me. "I just thought it would make you feel better if you did, and get the practice in."
"I do want to help." I said. "What do I have to do now?"
Keeper thought for a moment. "Well, we need to cover them so the herbs can do their trick with pout being rubbed away." He said. He grabs out a few things that would help. Seeing him in this condition really did hurt. Even the scratches looked worse than getting clawed by a cat. I helped him put the dressings on. As that was finished, I looked away. He replaced his cloak over again. Now, he looked as if I never had given any. I looked to my hands. The claws were hooked dangerously.
"I am sorry." I said again. "I truly am."
"Stop saying you are sorry." Keeper sounded irritated. I stiffened tears welling up in my eyes. He sighed heavily. "I know you are sorry, and I know you mean it too." He grabs me again bringing me into another hug. I wanted to pull away in fear his scratches might hurt or I gave him more. I soon relaxed, curling my fingers into a fist to make sure the same thing did not happen again.
