Saving Katelyn and Benjamin Ch.11
(Katie's POV)
"Daddy" I cry as my stomach violently clenches. He runs in and picks me up.
"shh baby it's ok" he says as he rocks u from side to side.
" need any help?" Edward asks from the door.
"get me some more anti-nausea medicine and a sleep aid" daddy says as he rubs my back.
" daddy" i cry and he runs me to the bathroom. This time we make it.
" I don't like this" I cry as I finish.
" I know you don't sweetheart, next week were going to get tests done to see how much cancer is there" daddy says as he picks me up and walks back to his room.
" here or the hospital?" I ask as he lays me down and covers me up.
"unfortunately the hospital sweetheart" he says and I cry.
"shh sweetheart it's ok" he coos as he sits next to me. Edward comes in carrying two empty syringes and two vials of medicine. Daddy gets up and takes them.
"Thank you son" Daddy says and Edward nods before leaving the room.
Daddy gets the shots ready and then puts them in my IV. I pull the covers up and snuggle into them. Daddy disposes of the needles and lays next to me.
I fall asleep after looking at the clock which read 11:32 P.M.
(Three hours later)
I woke up to thunder and lighting. I whimper an hear thumping in the hallway. I whimper louder and grab onto daddy.
"Shh baby its just a storm" he says and I close my eyes tightly and shake. The door creaks open and I scream as I see a shadow that looks like a monster.
"Daddy" ben calls out in pain. I turn and see ben standing in the doorway.
"What's wrong buddy" daddy asks.
" My leg hurts and my night light went out." He cries and daddy get up after untangling himself from the blanket. Daddy goes to the desk and picks up a pill bottle.
"Ok here's your pain medicine" Daddy says and hands him two pills and a cup of water. Ben takes them and hugs onto daddy's legs. Daddy looks at me.
" Honey is it ok if your brother sleeps with us tonight?" He asks and I nod and scoot over to the end of the bed. Daddy goes to lay ben next to me and I shake my head no. Daddy climbs in and sets ben on his other side. I lay my head on daddy's chest and he hugs me to him. He covers him and ben up with blankets and kisses both of our foreheads.
" Go to sleep both of you" he murmurs softly. I nod as I yawn into his chest. I fall asleep soon after.
(later in the morning)
I wakeup to my stomach hurting. I moan out in pain and get up. I grab the iv pole and pull it behind me. I get to the bathroom and start puking again. When I finish daddy is standing in he doorway. I rinse my mouth out and wash my hands. Daddy takes the IV pole and walk with me back to bed. He helps me up and then leaves. He comes back with a syringe and a vial. I hold my arm out. He gets the right dosage and then puts the needle into my port.
"There baby this should settle your tummy" he says as he sets the syringe down and I nod. He climbs back into bed as ben wakes up.
"well guys its suppose to ran all day so I was thinking your siblings could bring us breakfast in bed and then we can stay in here and play games and watch movies" daddy says and I nod my head. Ben agrees and daddy nods and pick up his phone. He talks to someone about bringing food and a few minutes later Edward, Bella and Alice bring up waffles with bacon.
"Thank you guy's" Daddy says as they set the trays down.
They nod and leave the room. Daddy helps ben and I sit-up against the headboard board next to each other and sets our trays on our lap. He turns on the TV and puts a bugs life on. He sits on the end with his tray. We eat and watch the movie. After were done eating daddy takes the trays and leaves. He come back with an armful of games to play.
(4 days later still Katie's pov)
"come on sweetheart daddy's waiting for us at work" mommy says as she puts on her shoes and coat.
"I'm coming mommy" I say as I scamper down the stairs. I slowly put my shoes and coat on. Mommy comes and picks me up and we walk to the garage. She walks to her car and sets me in the back in my booster seat. She straps me in and gets in the drivers seat. She drives off towards the hospital. When we get there she parks next to daddy's car. She gets out and helps me out. She grabs my hand and we walk into the hospital.
"esme Carlisle is in with a patient but he has an exam room ready." One of the nurses say as they come around the desk. The nurse leads us to an exam room. Mommy thanks the nurse as they leave and close the door. I whimper and climb into mommy's lap.
"shh sweet pea it's ok" she coo's as she rubs my back. There's a knock at the door and daddy walks in the room.
"hey sweetheart" he says as he sits down on the rolly chair. I keep my grip on mommy.
"shh baby there's nothing to be afraid of." Daddy coo's as he sets my chart down on the counter top. He comes next to us and places his hands on my waist and picks me up. I try to hold onto mommy but she untangles my hands from her neck.
"shh sweetheart your fine" daddy says as he stands up. He sets me down on the bed. There's a knock and dr. Jess walks in with a tray of equipment. She sets it down on the counter next to my chart.
"hey Katie how you feeling" dr. Jess says
" I'm ok I wish the sickness would go away" I say and jess nods.
"Carlisle have you been giving her medicine for the nausea" jess asks.
"yes I have been administering granisetron into her IV along with sleep aids to help her sleep" daddy says and jess nods.
"ok Katie were going to draw some blood first then do the bone marrow last so that way you can go home after the harder of the two tests." dr. Jess says and I give a small nod. Daddy helps me take off my coat and sits next to me. Jess grabs a needle and tourniquet.
She ties the tourniquet around my arm and preps the needle. Daddy holds my other hand and rubs circles as I feel the needle prick.
"almost done sweetie" dr. Jess says as she fills up the first vial and moves to the second. She finishes quickly and sets both vials on the tray.
"Carlisle can u get her in position and I'll draw up a sedative for her" jess says and daddy nods. He stands up and grabs a blanket.
"honey can you roll onto your side facing me?" daddy asks softly as he makes eye contact with me. I nod and slowly roll over. Daddy smiles at me.
"ok baby I need you to bring your knees up so your almost laying in a ball" daddy says and helps me.
"ok slight pinch sweetie" dr. jess says and feel the pinch. I feel daddy pull down my pants and undies and I fuss.
"shh sweetheart its ok your private parts will be covered." He says as he picks up the blanket and lays it over me so my privates are covered but my hip is still exposed.
"ok little pinch"dr. Jess says and I feel it on my hip.
"ok lets give that time to numb your hip area a little" dr. Jess says and I yawn. Daddy sits next to me and rubs my hand.
"we're almost done baby girl" daddy coos. Daddy talks to me and jess is behind me doing something with my hip but I cant see.
(A/N the bone marrow procedure is usually done in the pelvic bone so Katie thinks they are working on her hip but its actually her pelvis.)
" ok we're done" dr. jess says and pulls back. Daddy quickly pulls up my clothing and takes the blanket off.
"I can put a rush order and have them in a few hours" dr. Jess says and daddy nods as he helps me sit up. I put my arms out and he picks me up. I lay my head on his shoulder and fall asleep.
(Carlisle's pov)
I hold my baby girl to my chest protectively. Esme stands up and grabs our daughters coat.
"lets go to my office" I say and esme nods. We walk out into the hall and towards my office. I page jess to tell her where we were. I sit in my desk chair with Katie. Esme takes the couch. We sit there for hours until jess comes in. She hands me the tests results. I look over them and nod.
"ok let's try blood transfusions" I say and jess nods and leaves to go get the blood. Esme gets up and goes to the door. When I don't follow she looks at me confused.
"we'll do it on here" I say and stand up. I walk over to the couch and lay Katie down. She whimpers softly and I rub her back. Jess walks back in with supplies. We quickly get the transfusion going.
"I'll see you when you come back to work" she says and I nod. Esme looks at me confused.
" I paged the director and told her I needed paternity leave again" I say as I sit next to esme in the chairs across my desk.
"but you just got back" esme says.
" love I would rather be home with our daughter so if something happens" I say and esme nods and her nose wrinkles.
"her scent will be different for a while until the transfusion blends with her blood" I say and kiss her forehead. She nods and hugs me.
"she's doing a lot better the cancer is almost gone" I whisper into her ear and I feel her smile into my shoulder.
Katie starts to get restless meaning she would wake up soon. I go over to her and kneel so she would see me when she woke. Her eyes snap open and she looks for me. When she sees me she reaches for me but the Iv tugs. She looks up in panic at it
. "shh baby it's ok were giving you a blood transfusion, your cancer is almost gone but your blood still isn't normal so were hoping with a blood transfusion it will go back to normal" I say and pick her up. I sit down and set her on my lap. She snuggles into me and I kiss her forehead.
"we have another half hour for your transfusion to end and after we will go out to eat" I say and Katie nods.
"momma can I play a game on your phone?" she asks and esme nods and gives Katie her phone.
(1/2 hour later)
"ok baby your transfusion is done" I say and set her on the couch and then stand up to unhook the IV.
After I throw away the supplies and put Katie's coat on her and then we exit my office. We meet up with the family and go to eat.
