After Jonathan was knocked to the ground, he felt something lying on his chest and he wasn't sure what it was but it was somewhat familiar, he reached up without opening his eyes to find that it was Jennifer on top of him, she must have fallen forward when the ground started shaking and he reached up to feel her face, he could hear her breathing but she wasn't making any noise, he worried that that she might have gotten hurt but his ears perked up when he heard that familiar moan, he finally opened his eyes to find her head tucked under his chin, "Jennifer," he croaked, "Darling,"

She turned her head and felt pain in her neck, she opened her eyes and looked into his familiar blue ones, "What happened," the last thing she remembered was falling forward but something caught her although she wasn't sure.

Before Jonathan could answer her, the ground began to shake again and this time the ceiling began fall on them, "We have to get out of here!" He covered her head the best he could and when it finally stopped raining ceiling around them, he pulled her back, so he climbed out from underneath her and that they could run.

He sat up and checked her face for injuries, "Are you okay," She nodded but hadn't said much, Jonathan assumed that she must have been shocked but as he reached up to touch her face again, the ground began to shake and he looked up in time to see the ceiling splinter and crack further, "We have to get out of here!" He yelled, getting to his feet and picking her up by her arms, they ran through the court room and Jennifer looked back behind her, she spotted Elliot behind the defendant chair and stopped to see if she should help him, when the ceiling caved in on Elliot's body.

The entire court house was in chaos as people were trying to find an exit and people were crying from injuries, Jennifer wanted to stop and help them but Jonathan was pulling on her arm so hard to get through the crowd, she was almost afraid to stop until a terrifying thought crossed her, "Jonathan !, What about Aubrey and Pearl," She started to run back but Jonathan stopped her, "We can't!, it's too dangerous," He felt his stomach drop to the ground and fought the urge to run back into the court room to look for them but he knew that the building was unstable and that the whole building could collapse at any moment, "Besides, I'm sure they got out!" He didn't even believe his own words but if it was a minor comfort to either of them.

Jennifer wanted to believe him, but the pit in her stomach told her differently, it was the same feeling she'd had when Aubrey had been kidnapped and taken to Africa, although the memory of those days had faded, the feeling never left her, that sense of dread and panic.

Jonathan pulled her through a side door and out to the side of the court house, the cold air hitting them both, but Jennifer couldn't think of anything but finding Aubrey and Pearl, she raced around to the front of court room but there were so many Police, EMT workers and Firefighters as well as court room workers, it was impossible to spot their familiar faces.

But Jennifer tried, for hours, she called their names and searched, she even tried to go back inside the court but the Police stopped her and after a while, Jonathan had given up on fighting her that both Aubrey and Pearl weren't inside, she was adamant and when the police officers began removing bodies from the court house, he felt the urge to vomit, what if Aubrey was one of those bodies?

He forced that thought out of his mind, the idea of his little girl turned his stomach harder and he turned around and vomited into the street, Jennifer stopped yelling when she heard him vomiting and rushing over, began to rub his back.

While Jennifer was comforting him, a reporter recognizing the infamous Harts rushed over and stuck a microphone in Jennifer's face, "Mrs. Hart! Mrs. Hart!"

Jennifer's voice cracked, "Please, not now," the tears flowed down her face.

The reporter, obviously choosing to ignore that Jennifer was upset, asked her, "Mrs. Hart, do you think this earthquake will affect the outcome of your trial?"

"My trial?!," All sense of decorum had gone out the window and Jennifer were furious, she grabbed the reporter's arm and pulled her away, "My child is missing, I don't care if I go to trial now leave us alone!"

Jennifer had never felt such rage before, she wondered if she had the capacity to kill, just like when she shot Elliot, she also wondered if she was going crazy or if she really had the capacity to kill but Jonathan broke through her thoughts, "Jennifer!" She whipped around and ran back to him to where a Policeman was making an announcement.

"We've anticipated another aftershock and we are advising all non-essential personal to please evacuate the area, "The Police Officer announced, "immediately,"

"We can't leave!" Jennifer wailed, "Jonathan!"

He was helpless, there wasn't much he could do either, "Darling, maybe we're wrong and their both homes,"

It was a small chance of hope, but it was all they had and after leaving the courthouse, drove home in silence, usually he took her hand but, in this time, she was crying, and he was trying not to vomit.

They pulled into the carport and she was out of the car before he stopped, running up the stairs and down the hall to Aubrey's room, Jennifer took a deep breath and threw open the door, hoping to find her daughter sitting there with headphones on and oblivious to the world around her, or that she was sitting in the window seat, day dreaming but the room was empty, over the past few weeks, when Aubrey had sunk into her depression after Harvey's death, she'd gone on a cleaning spree and gotten rid of all the clothes, books and plates, leaving the room spotless.

"Aubrey?" She called out, "Aubrey?!" but there was nothing and when a hand tapped Jennifer on the arm, she jumped 10 feet in the air and whipped around to find Lucas beside her, "Mama?" He said narrowing his eyes, "Are you okay?"

"Oh Baby! You frightened me!" She leaned against the wall to catch her breath, "Is Aubrey here?"

"No Mama, She left with Granny Pearl," He answered, he looked so much like Jonathan from his long legs to his blue eyes but he also had her nose and freckles, Lucas was the perfect combination of Jonathan and Jennifer but Andrew, his twin, more favored their mother in terms of looks, he had her red hair and the same round face, it was hard to believe that Lucas and Andrew were twins because they were so different but they were all her babies and she couldn't handle losing Aubrey again.

Jonathan came up the stairs and saw her face, he knew instantly that Aubrey wasn't there, and neither was Pearl. His Heart immediately broke.

Jonathan rushed to her and grabbing his wife, he held onto her like a life raft and they both cried.

ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL

After the earthquake, the entire Emergency Room was flooded with patients having everything from minor cuts and bruises to head injuries and amputations, there was so much noise, that it was impossible to hear or think straight.

The ambulances were coming all at once and when the EMT workers rushed in a patient with a head injury, a young woman with red hair and the bluest eyes that the nurses had ever seen but there wasn't a moment to ask whether or not she'd been identified, the only thing that the EMT driver had said was that she was slipping in and out of conscious and when asked her name, she repeated over and over Angela but that she didn't know her last name.

The EMT worker held her hand while the doctors examined her, checking her vitals and deciding what the best course of action, noting that this girl wore expensive shoes and had a diamond studs in her earrings, this obviously wasn't a street kid but without identification, they had no clue on who to notify.

"Was she alone?" the Doctor asked

"She was next to an old woman, who was dead, they were holding hands, so they must have known each other," the EMT said as the girl's eyes fluttered and her heart rate suddenly dropped, the doctors began to frantically re-stabilize her before brain damage set in.

The EMT worker was told to let go of her hand but when he did, a ring fell in his palm that the girl was wearing, it was the shape of a Heart.

DAYS LATER

There still had been no word on the recovery of Pearl and Aubrey, Jennifer was spending her days between being sedated and crying while Jonathan was using every one of his contacts to make any sort of progress but even they couldn't help, the police were still working on recovery but had said as the days progress, chances of either of them being found alive were getting slimmer and slimmer.

The boys were devastated as well, Aubrey was their big sister and protector, Lucas would often wonder into her room and pull out the Simba Doll she'd gotten when the boys were born, his fur matted from years of love and accidentally abuse, he remembered one time when she'd left him at Daddy's office and Daddy had to have his security open the open to retrieve Simba to stop her from crying or when he and Andrew accidentally ripped Simba's ears and she was so mad, she broke the wheels off their favorite truck but felt bad she begged Daddy to replace the truck and Simba learned to live with one ear.

He looked at the pictures on her wall, her favorite being the one where Daddy and Mama had taken them to Kenya to the house and she'd helped the boys catch their first fish, standing on the pier, he could remember her giggling and saying that Daddy was one the one who taught her to fish and as she helped pulled the fish in, Mama had taken their picture. Audrey's hair was in pigtails and she was missing her front teeth, Lucas remembered Andrew yelling that the fish was gross, he was more of an intellect, content on catching bugs and science than athletics while Lucas was rough and loved any kind of sports he could get into, he'd been playing baseball and soccer for years and Daddy said this year, he could get a dirt bike, much to the chagrin of his mother, who envisioned nothing but broken bones for her son. He sat on Aubrey's bed and looked around and the room felt very cold, he got up and went to the window, sitting where Aubrey usually sat, he opened her window, looked up and cried.

It was at that moment, Jennifer, not fully conscious because of the sedation, stumbled into Aubrey's room and saw Lucas sitting there, "What are you doing here?! Get out!"

He whipped around, "Mama, I'm sorry!"

"You have no business being in here!" She was yelling, and her yelling brought Jonathan into the room as well, he wasn't sure what happened, but Lucas looked crushed and tears were forming out of his eyes.

"Jennifer!" He yelled grabbing her by the arms and the realization of what happened hit Jennifer and she crumbled, "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry,"

Lucas ran past them, crying himself, "I'm sorry, Mama I didn't mean to"

Jonathan and Jennifer crumbled to the floor of their daughter's room, holding each other and mourning once again for their daughter, it seemed like time had stood still and they were back in the days following the kidnapping of Aubrey, when they were grieving the loss of their daughter the first time. This time, there wasn't a feeling that this was simply a mistake, for them, this time meant that Aubrey was really gone.

"My baby," Jennifer wailed until her throat was raw, "how could we go through this again?"

Jonathan could only rock her, there were no answers that he could say that would reassure her because it was the unknown, Audrey could turn up alive tomorrow as if nothing had happened but the Police were doing everything they could, they'd asked for friends of Aubrey in case she'd gone to a friend's house and was just acting like a rebellious teenager but they knew deep down, that as much Aubrey tested her limits, she would never go days without checking in, that it would make them crazy not knowing where she was even when she snuck out to meet Harvey, she always made sure to have a fully charged phone.

After Jennifer's wails had stopped and she was sobbing, he held her until she was practically limp in his arms, "It will never be okay that she's gone and we will miss her every second of our lives but we could also be mourning her when she's alive, we don't know and until we do, we have to hold on to hope, because in the end, that's all we have. Now I know you are upset but Lucas wasn't doing anything wrong, he wasn't trying to mess up Aubrey's things, he as well as Andrew love her just as much as we do,"

"I know and I'm sorry, I'm so sorry but when I saw him there and it wasn't Aubrey, I couldn't breathe, I'll go apologize to him," She said.

He wiped her face, "Let's give him some space then go talk to him," Just as the phone rang.

"Mama!" Andrew yelled, "It's the Police!"

They looked at each other before scrambling to get up and race to the phone, Jonathan got to the phone first and picked it up, "Hello?" He said eagerly

Jennifer watched his face, "Is it about Aubrey," She asked

When his face fell, Jennifer sank to the floor and screamed, louder than anyone had ever heard before, and she was positive she'd never stop screaming.

The boys came running and when they saw their mother screaming, it confirmed their worst nightmare, that their sister was never coming home, that they would never see her at the breakfast table in her pajamas and socks, that infectious laugh and her hugs again.

Jonathan listened for a few minutes more and spoke quietly, "We'll be there,"

Jennifer sobbed while Jonathan finished speaking and when he bent down to pick her up, his voice broke, "We have to go to the morgue,"

"No, Jonathan we can't!" She wailed, "She's our baby,"

"I know, Darling and as our baby, we have to make decisions for her," he hugged her, and she sobbed into his chest, he wanted to cry with her, but he knew out of the two of them, he had to be the strong one.

Leaving the boys alone in the house with Baby Kati, they drove to the Los Angeles County Coroner's office where many families were gathered to identify their loved one, Jonathan's heart broke even further when he saw the other families broken and devastated as Jonathan and Jennifer were.

Identifying themselves to the woman behind the counter, they were advised to take a seat and wait for their name to be called.

Nodding, they sat down, holding each other's hands and barely breathing, Jennifer felt like she could vomit any second, "I can't do this," She whispered

"I know you can't, I can't either, but we have to," He held onto her harder

"Mr. and Mrs. Hart?" a voice called out for them.

Jennifer's legs felt like lead and she couldn't move, "Please, don't make me,"

Jonathan swallowed, "Okay, stay here," He got up and went to the door, but got dizzy, steadying himself against the door, he whispered to her, "Please don't make me do this by myself,"

She swallowed and stood up, taking his hand, she said, "Okay," They were guided to a room and told to wait there.

Sobbing, they were guided into a large room with a window and told that the Coroner's assistant would be wheeling their daughter out in front of the window and then they could decide for Aubrey's burial.

The coroner wheeled out a body of a fourteen year old girl with red hair and long legs, the girl had freckles on her face and a dimple in her left cheek.

"Mr. Hart?" the Coroner's other assistant asked, Jennifer crumbled to the ground and wailed.

"No," He choked out, "That's not my daughter."
