So it has been a while since I last updated this... Actually a very long time, but now I am determined to finish this in the next coming weeks :) The plot is a little cliché for what I've noticed and that didn't really change here. I hope you like it! Enjoy!
...
It took Sasori an entire week to actually plan the date. Not just because he had no idea what to actually do on this date, but more because Kimberly just never seemed to have any spare time. At some point he even thought she was just making excuses and actually just didn't want to go out with him. Not really good for his ego. The first time he had ever been interested in even taking a girl out and then she didn't like him back. But finally she agreed to keep her Friday evening completely free, with some convincing on Sasori's part, but it had worked.
After that Sasori focused on actually planning this thing. He stuck with the idea of taking Kimberly to see a movie, but then he had to figure out what kind of movie. It wasn't easy… Especially after Kimberly told him to just check it online. What did that even mean? Then she proceeded with shoving the TV/ typewriter thing in his face, because apparently it could be used for "checking things online". Though after he had discovered the internet, he was looking stuff up online a lot more, and of course they had nothing to do with the date they were going on. It was very interesting to see how people did their woodcarvings on this page where you could watch movies. Couldn't they just go to the movies here? That would be way more interesting.
Kimberly didn't agree though, so after another day of doing research on this internet thing Sasori had planned the… pretty common and not so adventurous date. Hey, it was a first for them both and he was dating in a world he didn't even come from. This was difficult enough as it were.
Another week had passed and it was finally Friday. Sasori had worked a lot before this to get as much money together as he could. The owners of the place weren't too happy since he still wasn't the friendliest waiter they had, but wouldn't fire him. Kimberly was the only reason why he still worked there and even if it was a job beneath his level of expertise, it wasn't all that bad. It could've been worse.
And then after school was finally finished and Sasori had tried not to give everyone a death wish, it was time for their date. You would think Sasori would be a little happier during the day with the date in mind, but just seeing that Jenny's face around got him irritated. She was still as oblivious as ever and even after explaining to her that he in fact was already going on a date, she tried to convince him of going with her instead, because apparently she was such a catch, wink wink. This whole ordeal actually creeped him out a little and without a word he had left her sitting in the classroom, practically running away from her. At this point he was very grateful that it hadn't been Jenny who had found him the day he died.
He had been the first to reach the main entrance and as he realised that their date would start as soon as Kimberly joined him there, his heart started racing. This would be his first date ever and he had already lived over forty years. Some would say it made him sad, but he just had never cared. His life was just so different here. Even if he hadn't been interested it mattered for your social status. People look down upon you otherwise. Not that he cared, but he could see what the social pressure did on Kimberly.
And then as if some kind of outside force was doing tricks on him, Sasori glanced up right as Kimberly turned the corner and moved towards him. No, that sounded way too… weird. Still it felt that way and he couldn't take his eyes off of her. Her hair was still pulled back in its usual ponytail, messy bangs framing her face. Her eyes shone a little more and he could see a slight blush dusting her cheeks. She was nervous too and it made him feel a little better. But what really stood out were her clothes. For the first time since Sasori met her, Kimberly was wearing a dress. Nothing special. Just a simple kaki coloured dress that did nothing for her skin colour with a pair of black leggings beneath it. Truly nothing special, but it looked good on her. Hugged her body better and showed off some of her curves.
Automatically a smile formed on Sasori's lips and Kimberly couldn't help but respond to it. There was just something in the air. Sasori's heart had raced before like this, getting excited during fights or when discovering new poisons. He was passionate about those things. But this still felt different. This wasn't just excitement, smiling due to the thrill of the moment. This was about sharing something, nerves kicking in because you weren't sure if the other actually wanted to share as well. It was confusing, but exhilarating at the same time.
'Ready to go?' he asked once Kimberly had reached him and she gave him a shy nod. First the moment turned to awkward, because both didn't know how to act. A little stiff they walked side by side until their steps fell into pace with each other and their arms were linked together. Sasori released a soft sigh, glad it wasn't as uncomfortable as he thought for a moment. It was going to work out.
It wasn't a long walk towards the movie theatre, but Kimberly still had to show Sasori the way. He had picked out the movie and had even ordered tickets, but where the thing actually was or what it looked like, he didn't have a clue. So he was pretty amazed when they reached this large building, no originality in architecture, but very promotional with their name written in big blue neon letters. It really wasn't pretty at all.
'So what movie are we going to see?' Kimberly asked, looking around the theatre with little interest.
Putting on an innocent face Sasori glanced away as he got the tickets out of the dispenser, acting like nothing strange was going on. 'The Hunger Games two.'
Immediately Kimberly's eyes snapped towards him with an amused smile, both eyebrows raised in surprise. 'Did you even finish reading the first book?' she questioned, unsure if she actually saw him reading the past week.
'Yes, and I also read number two and three. They were on your shelf and I need to do something when you're struggling with doing simple math equations,' he answered, waving it off as if it was nothing. Usually he didn't do much reading in his spare time, too engrossed in other hobbies, but here it was a nice way to spend his free time. And Kimberly had enough books on her shelf, for now.
Shaking her head Kimberly merely glanced at the tickets to see which theatre they needed to go and then pulled Sasori into that direction. 'Some people just aren't that good at Math and I see you struggling with History and Geography. Unlike you I actually try to do my homework and do a good job at it,' she muttered. Of course Kimberly could understand why Sasori struggled with those subjects, but he didn't care at all. He was actually behaving like a normal high school student…
Reaching their seats Sasori and Kimberly sat down, both their arms resting on the same armrest. He didn't respond to Kimberly's comment, not finding it a subject to discuss now and of course risk getting into some kind of argument. Kimberly was quick to respond and didn't fear him at all, so it was a little different for him.
Then Sasori realised he had forgotten to get them popcorn and drinks or what else Kimberly had wanted. Damn, was he screwing this up already? Carefully he glanced her way and saw that she was pretty content, smiling lightly as she stared at the screen that wasn't showing anything yet. Should he ask? He could still go and get them something. Of course in the hope he wouldn't screw that up.
'Uh, should I get us some food and drinks?' he asked, his voice sounding as unsure as he was.
Kimberly shrugged her shoulders as she turned to face him again. 'I don't really care, but it's nice to have something to chew on while you watch a movie. But I don't know what you have planned after this.'
Sasori hadn't thought about that. He did plan to go to an ice cream parlour afterwards, but that couldn't really count as something to eat. So he should get them something and he would decide what that would be. 'Okay, I'll go get us something. I'll be right back.' And he would, because he didn't like to keep people waiting, obviously.
Quickly Sasori got up and moved out of their isle, disturbing a lot of people already. Thankfully the movie hadn't started yet, but he better not take too long. Kimberly watched him disappear through the door and instantly got bored. Even if they hadn't spoken much, Kimberly liked it better when Sasori was around. She had grown accustomed to having him there by her side. They were almost inseparable, spending only time apart when they had class. And while time had passed Kimberly realised that this date wasn't such a bad idea. She still thought that Sasori could do so much better, but hey, he had asked her, right? So she could be a little selfish and accept. She was there taking care of him, no one else was. And she deserved a little happiness.
It did take him a long time to actually get back. The previews had already started and the lights were dimmed. Didn't Sasori say he would be right back? This wasn't right back. A little confused and worried she kept glancing at the door, making the person next to her a little annoyed, because previews were there to be watched as well.
And then the doors finally opened. Kimberly knew that had to be Sasori and she was not mistaken, but what came with him was something she hadn't anticipated on. An arm was firmly placed around Sasori's neck and none other than Jenny was hanging from it, lazily eating from the popcorn he was bringing with him. He did look annoyed, but strangely enough wasn't pushing her away. Okay, his arms were filled with the popcorn and their drinks, but still. Why was he letting her do this?
Obviously she was trying to coax him towards the places where her friends and she were sitting, pulling on his arm and putting on a pout. Sasori wasn't sensitive to that though and just ignored it, but the pulling kind of worked. Would he go sit with them?
Kimberly could see the other girls waving at them, cheering him on as he got a little closer, going down the steps little by little. There were still places available there and he could definitely sit with them. Jenny would offer her own seat and sit in his lap if he would let her. But Sasori didn't really like to be touched, except when it was holding hands or kissing… Maybe he would actually like hanging out with Jenny now. Kimberly had foolishly rejected him when he kissed her. But she was convinced he had deserved more. Maybe he thought the same thing now.
She watched them talk for a little bit, standing still on the steps leading down towards the girls' seat. And then the lights went out completely, signalling that the movie was really about to start and Kimberly couldn't see them anymore. Sinking down a little in her seat Kimberly waited, hoping Sasori would join her soon again. She didn't want to be humiliated like that.
But what did she truly expect? Her life was already not filled with positive things, so her first date failing should fit right in.
