Chapter 10: The Battlefield
Author's note: Sorry it took me so long (school is taking a toll on me)
XXX
Above a forest in Hokkaido, Baki was being strapped with a parachute bag and winced as he said, "It's really tight. Are all parachutes like this?"
"Son that parachute is the only thing standing between you and certain death," Strydum yelled, trying to be heard over the loud noise of the plane he was in. "So, say your prayers and try to ignore the fact that one out of every hundred bag fails to open."
"One minute to drop," the pilot announced on the speaker. "One minute to drop."
The plane opened and Baki looked at the world below him with shock while Strydum held on to his hat and said, "And one more thing, not to make you feel at ease but there are five of them down there and you'll be discovered the moment you drop so be ready and don't leave the area where you land."
"Ready for drop, ready for drop," the pilot announced as he kept the plan steady for Baki to jump.
"Move and go kick some ass," Strydum yelled as Baki jumped out of the plane to go down to the forest.
As he jumped down to the forest, Baki finally opened his parachute and shielded his self from the tree branches and leaves as he crashed down to the floor and finally reached the ground.
Baki rolled down and landed down on his feet, surveying the woods that he entered with curiosity while the birds were chirping as they flew away. The screen widened showing that Baki was right by a river. Baki looked around and said, "What I am supposed to do now? I thought they were supposed to attack me the minute I landed"
"I just can't stand around here…"Baki said as he closed his eyes and sighed before looking at a map so see where he is. "So where am I?"
"Aw man, I can't read this map at all. It's full of lines," Baki complained as he walked towards the large tree before him and looked at the map further. "Let's see…"
The tree broke from the inside out, surprising Baki as he was suddenly put in a headlock by a mysterious tall man wearing a blue military uniform and had brown hair and a green bandana tied around his head. The man looked at Baki, who was slowly suffocating and then passed out.
While Baki was passed out, a man wearing a similar blue uniform and a black bandana on his head popped out from the ground while another man that looked identically like him popped out from the water. Another man wearing the same blue military uniform jumped down and so did another man. The men all gathered around the unconscious Baki, revealing what the men looked like now. One of them was bald and short with a pale tan bandana on his head, one of them was a very large man who had a faded out green bandana tied to his forehead, while two other man that looked similar to one another had blue bandanas on their foreheads. The man who choked Baki was also in the group as he looked down at the red-haired teen and said, "It's just a kid."
"Well he came in with a parachute, so I thought he was some kind of military paratrooper or something," one of the men wearing a blue bandana on his head. "He's not even a part of the SDF, he's just some kid."
Then, Baki got up and flipped his body so that his legs were in the air and started to twirl, making sure that his legs would hit his targets, and then got up in the air to kick one of his attackers in the face but gas hit his eyes which caused him to fall back and hot the tree while trying to get his eyes to stop hurting.
The screen then showed that one of the men with the blue bandana on his head had a gun that emitted gas in his hands and put his gun away while saying, "This one is really wiry huh? It's a good thing I had my cesium gas on me."
"Do you think he saw our faces?" the other man with the bandana around his head asked, suddenly getting into a defensive position in case Baki got up again.
"Yeah, we can't let him go now," the man who choked Baki said with a grim smile on his face as he walked towards while the man with the pale tan bandana had a sadistic look on his face and laughed a little. The man, who choked Baki, grabbed the teen's hair with his hand and forced Baki to look up at them even though his eyes were closed and now watering due to the gas in his eyes and grabbed some rope while the other men in the group smiled at what their comrade was doing. The man who had Baki smiled and said, "There we go."
The screen then showed Baki who was tied to the tree with rope while his hands were behind him and separate from each other while his mouth had duct tape on it, even though he was struggling. "So we got to get rid of him? Meeting us means death. There is no law out here except for the ones we make."
Baki attempted to scream at the men but to no avail because his mouth was taped. One of the men commented, "The kid is really well trained. I'd say about a 150 lbs. and 1% body fat."
"This is not an average kid," Another man commented.
The short, bald man with the pale tan bandana on his head smiled sadistically before he got out a knife and walked towards Baki with the weapon in his hands before he kneeled to Baki's level and put the knife to Baki's neck and said, "Well let's get this party started shall we?
Baki looked at the man before him as if he was crazy while the bald man didn't care and proceeded to cut his neck a little before one of the men said, "Wait."
The bald man looked at his comrade and said, "Why should we?"
"Suppose he might not be alone, if he's living he's more attractable bait," one of the men said as he was holding a green container filled with something. "I say we keep him alive."
He threw the container to the bald man, who easily caught it, and looked at him as he then smiled and said, "You have a sick, twisted idea of fun, man."
"Don't act like you don't," the man said before he turned around to look at the group. "Just put the ointment on and we'll all have our fun later."
"This is an herb ointment, kid," the man said as he began to rub the ointment on the wound on Baki's neck. "It stops the bleeding like nobody's business and it'll keep you alive a little longer. That way we can carve you up nice a little later"
Baki looked at the man and tried to say something but he still couldn't sue tot eh duct tape.

As night began to fall, the screen showed a large mansion with the lights on and with a large brick wall with an iron gate in the middle with a lock in it.
Then, in the house, the door opened and it revealed Captain Strydum saluting someone before him who had a cup in his hand with large on it. "It's good to see you again, sir."
The person that Strydum was saluting to was revealed to be an old man who looked very strong with the top of his bald but the sides and the back had white hair while also having a mustache and beard. "It's been a long time, Captain Strydum."
Captain Strydum put down and his hand then the screen showed the two of them eating a large meal on a large rectangular table across from each other. Strydum then asked the man, "So how long are you in Japan?"
"That's a good question, I'd like to stay in hiding," the man said.
Strydum spit out some of his drink and then laughed as he said, "You in hiding? What on earth are you hiding from? That's not right. You're a soldier among soldiers. The proper place for you to die on is the battlefield."
"The battlefield isn't proper. Besides old friend, that life is behind me now," the old man said.
"And what if the right challenge came along?" Strydum proposed.
"It would take an enticing challenge from an enticing person," the man answered.
"Then what about Yujiro Hanma?" Strydum asked.
The man looked at the captain for a few minutes before he took a large gulp of his drink and then said, "There are only two people I know of that I can't beat. The king, Yujiro Hanma, and one other person."
"Yujiro has a challenger, his son Baki. I sent the boy to Hokkaido to train," Strydum revealed.
"Interesting, does this boy know who his father is or is he just insane?" the man asked.
"Doesn't insanity run in that family? Or pride?" Strydum asked.
"If Baki can beat those five soldiers, then it would be quite a feat," Strydum said while the man suddenly crushed the glass in his hand like it was nothing.
"Did you say five soldiers?" the man asked, not caring that his drink was flowing from his hand or that crushed glass was still in his clenched hand.
"Yes, they occupy Hokkaido," Strydum answered, not knowing why his friend was acting so strangely all of a sudden.
The man unclenched his hand and then lifted it to lick some of the drink from his hand and has a dark and grim look on his face as he then said, "Strydum, I hope you aren't fond of the boy because the other person I can't beat with those five. Gaia is in those woods."
"W-what do you mean? He's not alive," Strydum said as he got out from his seat in shock.
"Not only is he alive, but nothing on this earth could hurt him, not even a nuke," the man said. "The Hanma boy will not come back alive."
"What have I done? Gaia is known as the lightning man, he's deathless, he's invincible," Strydum yelled, still in shock.
"Yujiro may not be pleased if his challenge is no longer alive and if the boy confronts Gaia, then I assure you he won't be."
"But wait, the boy is Yujiro's son so he should be able to stand up to him."
"You can only say that with a straight face because you've never known Gaia's wrath."
"His quickness and technique on the battlefield are completely unparalleled. Once he has it in his mind to kill you, you're already dead. No one can beat him, Captain Strydum, not even Yujrio."
XXX
The screen then showed that it was night in Hokkaido, where Baki was and then showed one of the soldiers walking up towards something and then widened out to show that the rope was on the tree but it was no longer holding Baki. The soldier had no look on his face as he quickly caught a buzzing a mosquito with two fingers and then let go, revealing the blood. "You're around here somewhere."
Then the tree suddenly busted into pieces, revealing that Baki was in the tree as he yelled, "I'm right here."
He then kicked the soldier in the stomach, sending him backward but the soldier quickly got his footing and readied his stance with a knife in his hand while Baki just looked at the soldier and noticed that the back of his leg was cut without him even noticing it.
"I hope you know how to sew your own stitches because you're going to need them," the man said as he lifted the knife to show just how deadly it was.
Baki gritted his teeth and looked at his opponent with contempt while the soldier said, "Don't worry. I only cut the great saphenous vein, and since it's a low pressure vein it'll kill you slowly."
"But if you can beat in the next five minutes then you can live," the man said as he then threw his knife towards Baki. Baki moved out the way, allowing the knife to miss its target and hit the tree instead while the soldier ran towards Baki.
"You're pretty slick," he commented as he grabbed another knife and attempted to cut Baki's throat but the teen ducked down and allowed only a few strands of his hair to be cut by his opponent. Baki backed into the tree and looked at the brown-haired soldier. "I have more than one knife."
Baki quickly grabbed the knife that was in the tree and attempted to defend himself with, but instead watched at the knife was quickly cut by the other knife as if it was nothing. The brown-haired man laughed and showed the knife, which was black and shining brightly, as he then revealed, "This knife was made only for me by friend. No other knife has an edge so sharp. It can cut clear through a bear's skull and look."
The man then revealed that he used the knife to shave his face and then rubbed his now clean face when he was done as he then said, "Fine enough to shave a face."
"What the…?" Baki said as he looked at the man before him before he charged and said, "Come on!"
The man tried to slice Baki, who dodged it, which caused the man to say, "You some of this boy?"
The man then kicked Baki in the face, but Baki used his arms to defend himself and caused the man to say, "It's time to die."
The man tried to cut Baki once more but this time he also tried to cut his the other way, which made Baki think 'The crotch'. Baki intercepted the man's attack with his foot and pushed it down as he then punched the man in the face. However, while he may have punched the man, Baki soon noticed that this time it was his wrist that got cut.
"Aren't you luck you little brat?" the brown-haired soldier asked as he readied his knife to cut again. "If my blade had sliced a few millimeters deeper than your wrist would've been gushing like a Nile."
Baki looked at the man as he thought 'He's using my fear to lure me in and attacking my weak points'. Baki jumped up and down for a few seconds like a boxer would and then charged at the man, who had his knife ready again, but Baki had his fist ready as he then said, "I guess a kid never learns."
The man tried to Baki once more but this time he missed while Baki was still ready to punch him which caused the man to look at Baki in surprise before he was punched in the face as Baki said, "You jungle freak!"
The man was sent flying backwards into a tree before he was knocked unconscious while Baki said, "One down, four more to go."
It was still night as the screen then showed a shovel being put down and then the soldier being buried into the ground with only his shoulders and head above the dirt. Baki looked down and said, "I'm going to get some real exercise so stay put. Your friends will join you real soon."
Then, Baki was wandering around the woods as he taunted them by saying, "Come out, come out wherever you are. Or was the first guy the best one you all had? At least he had the guts to come out and fight."
The trees were rustling as Baki looked behind him to hear where his next opponent was coming from and then jumped in the air when his next opponent, who was a large brown-haired man with a faded green bandana tied around his forehead, came out to grab Baki, who kicked him the face, but when he turned around he saw that the man looked as if he wasn't in any pain at all. 'Note to self, kicking him in the face doesn't work.' Baki said as the two stood looking at each other for a few seconds before the man dug his foot into the ground and caused Baki to think 'Something big going to come.'
The man then charged at Baki and kicked him in the face, but Baki defended himself and instead got dirt in his eyes. The man tried to grab Baki, but the red-haired teen moved out of the way, causing the large soldier to look down.

"Gaia is a supreme expert in military fighting techniques," the man said to Strydum who was still across from him. "This means that dirty fighting is not only an option but a certainty. The old rules of fair play on the battlefield are non-existent. But even if that boy is Yujiro's son, the boy will be killed if he can't outlive Gaia's attack. You made a very big mistake bringing the boy to Hokkaido, Strydum."
Meanwhile, Strydum had a look of worry on his face as well as sweat as he continued to hear what his friend had to say.
XXX
The man lifted his food and intended to crush Baki with it, but he rolled out of the way, while Baki had one of his eyes closed, he said to the main, "You don't fight fair."
"I don't fight fair," the man repeated but then he let out a humph before he said, "Who promised you fair little boy? In a fight, there is no such thing, a little mud in your eye won't hurt."
'Dammit! If this keeps up then I'm dead!' Baki thought to himself as his eyes were closed in pain. Baki then ran to river in order to wash out the mud, but the man grabbed his head and said, "Do you need help washing your face, here let me help you."
The man then held Baki's head down and held it down until Baki seemed to longer have any breath in his body, which caused the man to stop and carry Baki's body to the shore but not before he formed a cross on his body. Baki then appeared alive as he grabbed the soldier and placed him in a head lock with his body trying to get the entire soldier crushed under his body. "Thank you for the great lesson, professor. I feel like I really am a change man. Now here's mud in your eye."
The man passed out and fell to the ground, making Baki fall as well but he got up from under the large man and looked at the man as he then looked to the sky and said, "It's time for me to teach my lesson. You other three cowards come out and fight."
The moon was shining on the river as Baki asked, "Run away?"
The screen then showed that the two soldiers who fought Baki were now both buried with only their shoulders and heads as Baki said, "I don't think the two of you are in any position to tell me what to do."
"It doesn't matter. You should run away if you want to live," the larger man of the two said with closed eyes.
"Yeah right. As if I'd quit right in the middle of such a fun game," Baki said as then began to train himself by punching and kicking the air, pretending that someone was fighting him. "Yujiro Hanma always trains on the battlefield."
"Wait did you say Yujiro Hanma?"
"Yeah, and just how does a mangy fleabag like you know my father?"
"Your pops is the king?"
"Answer my question!"
"All soldiers know of the king and Gaia. They're almost like ghost stories to us."
"The king? Gaia?"
"Yujiro fights empty handed and still outclasses the latest advanced weaponry. Soldiers around the world call him the king out of fear and respect."
"The king," Baki repeated out loud.
"And then there's Gaia. He's here currently as out commanding officer." After hearing those words, Baki had a large smile on his face at the prospect of a challenge that's feared just like his father.
"I don't see why you're smiling. You know your father's strength first hand. Out on the battlefield, Gaia is every bit the equivalent of Yujiro."
"Hey Kuraishi, he's gone," the brown-haired soldier told his comrade while the screen showed that Baki had already left.
In the woods, the short and bald soldier wearing the pale tan bandana was pissing on a tree and had a relieved look on his face as he said, "Just one month until this operation is over. Will it ever end?"
As he turned around, he immediately met angry red eyes which caused him to back away slightly in fear in and in surprise. "What the hell?"
"You gave me this cut, right?" Baki asked as he pointed to healed but in his neck.
"Yeah…I mean…" The man was instantly cut off when Baki kicked him in the face, instantly knocking him out.
When he saw that the man was already down, he sighed and said, "Well you're certainly not this Gaia dude I'm looking for."
The screen showed that short man, who was now sporting bruises on his face, was also buried in the ground like his comrades before him. Kuraishi and the brown-haired soldier looked at the man as one of them said, "Welcome to the club, Nomura."
"I'm only the medic, man," Nomura said. "It's not my fault I'm not that good at fight."
"Nomura, where is Gaia as we speak?" Kuraishi asked.
"How should I know?" Nomura ask as he looked down and then up with a worried look on his face as he looked at Baki, who was squatting down on the ground facing away from his defeated opponents. "Yeah, he'll be soon…real soon. I get the feeling that he's closer then everyone thinks. And once he comes out, he'll be madder than he's ever been. He'll be sure that no one stops him until that boy is dead."
A few feet away from Baki, on the trees, one of the soldiers that didn't get captured by Baki, looked at the boy while he said, "Smart kid."
"Dead kid, you mean," the other said as he prepared his gloves, ready to fight Baki. "He's not getting out of here alive."
"The king's son, huh? He'll be a nice trophy with his name," the other said as he played with his cesium gas gun.
"His moves are the real thing, aren't they? A little too clean, though," the other commented as the screen showed the soldier having wide, far apart eyes and putting something on his arm.
The other soldier, who had sharp eyes that held glee in them, laughed as he then said, "I'm gonna enjoy this."
Morning came and the screen showed that Baki was now sitting wide awake as he waited for his next contenders when he heard something, which caused him to get up to look what caused the commotion while the soldiers in the ground looked before them with fear and shock in their eyes. Baki then said, "That's surprising. I didn't think they'd attack me head on."
Then, it showed a large black bear coming out from the bushes causing Baki to look at the animal in surprise while one of the soldiers, the brown-haired one, said, "It's wounded."
Then the bear suddenly stopped and fell to the ground before Baki, who surprised to see something before him until suddenly a man jumped out of the bear which reminded Baki of when Yujiro destroyed the Yasha's head and jumped the guy while he was in the midst of the attack and said, "You just reminded me of a bad memory!"
The soldiers in the ground looked at Baki with shock in their eyes as the man was suddenly kicked in the face by Baki who then kicked him again and punched him while saying, "You just brought back a bad memory!"
The man fell to the ground as Baki then jumped on his with his fist on the air and said, "You've made the biggest mistake reminding me of that."
Baki began to punch the man in the face over and over again as he said, "Everything you guys do piss me off."
While the man was defending himself, the gear on elbow suddenly had a sharp knife coming out it. Baki stopped to see them and then jumped out of the way when the man under him tried to cut him with the knives. The man then said while other knives popped out from his gear, "You should be real proud of yourself kid. You've had a lot of good fighters helping you, but you're time is up my friend."
Baki looked at the man as if he was merely a joke and when the man tried to cut him once more, Baki had a kick ready and appeared behind the man while his shoe was cut into four pieces and tried to punch the man, but when the soldier dodge a piece of wire appeared behind Baki and suddenly began to choke him while the red-haired teen struggled to get out the grip. The other soldier held on to the wire and said, "You're really energetic kid."
"One out of many, a normal predicament for a great fighter," one of the men, the one with wide eyes, said as he got his knife ready.
"That's right," the other said as he began to pull on the wire and consequently began to pull Baki as well and tied him to a tree.
"It's time to die boy," the soldier with the knife said. Baki immediately went for the bandages on his leg and ripped it open, revealing that he had a knife on him as well.
"He has my knife," the brown-haired soldier cried in shock, not believing what was happening right before his eyes. Baki cut the wire as if it was nothing while the other soldier had his knife as he charged and said, "You little punk."
Baki rolled and then sprung in the air as he then kicked the knife out of the man's hand and in the man's face. While the knife was on the ground, the soldier who looked down while he was recovering suddenly laughed in glee before he looked at Baki, revealing that he was wearing a mask of sorts while saying, "Looks like you've uncovered my secret. That sometimes, things aren't as they appear."
The man then ripped the mask off, revealing that he looked like the other soldier with wires, which shocked Baki. The two men, now perfectly identical, were next to each other as one of them said, "As you can see…"
"We're actually identical twins," the other twin said as he stood behind the other.
"They're going to use it," the brown-haired soldier said in shock.
"We normally disguise ourselves…" One of the twins said as the two began to wave arms opposite to the other, making it seem like it was just one man.
"To avoid confusing our allies," the other twin said.
"But against our enemies, it's perfect," One of the twins said as the one in front of the other suddenly got into a stance with his knives ready and charged. "So you can twice as much pain."
Baki got ready as well and watched as one of the twins, the one with the wires, jumped in the air with his wires loose and ready, to hold Baki's arms together while the other twin had his knife ready to attack Baki, who used the wires to protect himself but also got kicked in the face by the twin already in air. Baki fell backwards but got on his feet as he then thought 'Two guys at once working together. Can they be Gaia?'
While he was thinking the two were moving around with both of them ready to attack and then Baki charged with a loud cry when the man with knives tried to kick him, Baki ducked and rolled under to attack the other twin by grabbing the wires before they could do anything but was thrown. As he landed on the ground with his two feet, he grabbed the wires and threw the twin just like what the twin did to him and entangled him in the wires and while the other twin charged at Baki with the knife, Baki destroyed the knife and grabbed the other twin, entangling the two in wires as he then said, "You two are pretty good, but you're not any close to my dad's level."
Baki then threw the two backwards and slammed their heads on the ground which caused two of the buried soldiers to look on with shock while Nomura look on as of it was nothing.
With the knife on the ground, Baki looked at the unconscious twins and said, "Don't tell me you honestly think you guys can beat Yujiro like that? You're a million years behind!"
Suddenly Nomura rose his head up and said, "I smell it!"
Nomura began to shake while the other soldiers that were conscious looked at Nomura and said, "Nomura."
"Try to resist it Nomura."
Nomura, ignored the two, as he looked at the sky with a crazed look on his face and his mouth agape while saying, "It's the smell of adrenaline! It's the smell…the smell of adrenaline!"
Nomura's face looked wet with tears and snot as his face was slowly drifting to his normal face and something of a man who was angry. The soldiers looked at Nomura and knew that something was going on so Kiraishi looked at Baki, "Run Hama! Run!"
"Run from what?" Baki said as he looked at Nomura.
"Just run. Run as far as you can," Kiraishi demanded, sounding more like a plea then a demand.
Nomura was making animal noises while Baki looked on to understand what the hell was going on.
XXX
"I wonder how Baki's doing without me," Aki asked herself as she looked out into the city form the hotel room with a sad smile on her face. The blonde woman now wore nothing but a large, white robe and all of her wounds were slightly healed, mostly her face as there were light bruises and she now just had bandages on her arm.
"He must've thought I ran away again, just like middle school," Aki sadly commented to herself as she then sighed and walked towards the bed and sat down
"Hopefully getting stronger," Yujiro said form behind Aki, who looked at Yujiro for a moment and then smiled.
"He maybe getting stronger but unfortunately, he's nowhere near the level of you and I," Aki sighed and she then lied down and closed her eyes.
"Then why the hell are you still supporting him?" Yujiro asked.
Aki looked as if she was thinking for a minute and then looked at Yujiro as he answered, "Because even when I was cruel to him and disappeared on him, he still loved me. So now, even if he's hopeless, I will love him and bring him to where he's needed just like he did to me."
Yujiro frowned and tried to punch Aki, but the woman rolled out of the way and looked at Yujiro with a look of anger that could kill on her face as she said, "Yujiro, try that on me again and I'll kill you."
Before she could move another muscle though, Yujiro caught her by the arm and looked down on her as he said, "Keep showing that face, even when Baki is around, show him the immense hate you dared to hide from him."
"Yujiro," Aki said as he still had the angry look on her face and then kicked Yujiro on the face which caused him to slightly let her go but just enough that she slipped out of his grasp. Aki then had a crazed look on her face as she continued while looking at the smiling Yujiro. "If I ever showed that face to Baki again, he'd fear me. I can't have the one I love fear me."
"Just because of that one incident, you changed your entire personality just because of that weakling?" Yujiro asked.
"That's right, love is a powerful thing Yujiro," Aki answered with a loving smile on her face as she thought of Baki.
"But fear and hatred are more powerful," Yujiro said which caused Aki to begin to giggle immensely.
"Yujiro, you're too funny. I think that's part of the reason why I also love you as well," Aki said as she then walked towards the bed and got under the covers again.
"You know, you truly are such a weird person," Yujiro commented.
Aki shrugged and said, "I don't care."
Yujiro frowned at the girl and then ignored her as he began to train once more while Aki was already asleep.
