Butch was drained.
And it wasn't from the running or from the drinks.
It was from her.
She drained him.
She ran circles around him as she ridiculed and made his brain numb and tired with her cryptic words and actions.
He didn't understand.
She left him alone in the dark as he tried to figure out what was going on.
His eyes found their way looking up at the stars, mesmerized by the glimmer in the darkness of the sky.
Butch stood, staring at the sky before he realized that it was late.
His eyes felt tired, just like every other aspect of him, and he reached around for his phone, only to find out it wasn't in his pocket.
"Shit." He muttered to himself. "Brick's gonna kill me."
Brick stood by the kitchen counter, leaning on it as he looked forward to the television in the living room.
His red eyes stared blankly at the animated screen, bloodshot. His tie was loosened but not off, and his dress shirt was untucked with the top buttons undone.
A mug of cold coffee laid untouched in his hands.
The television's volume was off, but the silent buzz of the electricity running though echoed in Brick's ears. Even with dead silence surrounding him, all Brick heard was the vibrating hum of the television.
And it drove him crazy.
All he could think about was where his brothers were, and he knew they were with the Gangrene Gang. He just didn't know where they were. Or what trouble they were getting into.
The apartment door was unlocked, and the door handle slowly turned.
As soon as the door opened, Brick snapped back to reality.
Butch stepped into the light and Brick pushed his mug off the counter, shattering it onto the ground.
"Wha-?" Butch, taken aback, began to ask. Brick cut him off before he could continue.
"Where the hell have you been?" Brick's voice was raised but he wasn't yelling- not yet.
"Out." Butch said gruffly, shutting the door and beginning to walk to his room.
"Don't you fucking dare drown me out like one of your drinks."
Butch stopped cold in tracks as he froze his hand on the doorknob.
"I know you're out. You're out every fucking Sunday drowning yourself in the cheapest alcohol and you're passed out in your room for the entire night."
Butch didn't speak. Silence echoed through the room before finally turning the doorknob. "He's with Ace at a party. He's on his way."
Brick didn't respond when Butch spoke before he turned the doorknob and closed the door behind him.
Brick stared at his brother's bedroom door, contemplating the option of talking to his estranged brother. The two brothers were thick as thieves, once upon a time, but now Brick stood by the counter in an undone suit and tie while Butch laid on his bed with alcohol breath and a makeshift ash tray on his desk made out of a chemistry textbook.
With that in mind, Brick took his keys and flew out of the house to find Boomer while Butch watched his brother fly by the window, a cigarette at his lips.
