Chapter 11

Resolutions

At his house, I was at his house. Kaito looked at me as he handed over a cup of tea. I took it silently as the air around us remained tense. After a while, I placed my cup of tea on the coffee table and looked at him.

"I know." Kaito immediately snapped his head and looked at me, something like fear swimming in his orbs as I sighed. "Piko told me all about it."

His jaw tensed up as his eyes hardened. I couldn't help but to sigh even louder. Silence remained as he avoided looking at me in the eyes meanwhile I tried to find some kind of solution to this. But as always, my mind had cake out with nothing. It was as if this was going to end up terribly. Kaito sighed, finally breaking the silence after a while.

"I'm sorry." His voice wavered a bit from regret and I couldn't help but to feel saddened about it. I knew how much he had been through and now, I knew who or what Meiko was to him. She was someone that he could turn to whenever he needed and to just have that someone to be ripped away, it must have felt horrible.

"What are you going to do about it?" I slowly looked at him. "And I hope it has nothing to do with abortion."

Kaito snapped his eyes and looked at me, his face filled with tiredness. "How could you say that? If she doesn't..."

"But it's a baby! A life!" I got up as I felt the frustration grow inside of me. "You can't simply ask a woman to abort her baby! Not when she got it from someone she loves."

"Then what do you want me to do?" It was his turn to yell as he looked at me piercingly. "I love you," he said suddenly so soft that I felt my heart melt.

"Kaito...I love you too but both you and I know that this isn't about us anymore. It's about how we're going to solve this problem without killing anybody."

"I know." He ran his fingers through his hair before I slumped back on the couch tiredly. "I...She..."

I looked at him as he mumbled before I shook my head. "Call her."

He looked at me immediately as confusion filled his eyes. "What?"

"Call her and ask her to come. From what I heard, there's still some unresolved matter from you two and that's what making her act like that. She's not an evil woman, Kaito. Just...abandoned."

Kaito looked ashamed a bit before he sighed. In an instant, he took out his phone and dialled her number. It took a few seconds before she answered on the other side. I studied Kaito's reaction as he told her about our plans. I could hear some disapproval grunts from the other side but it soon ended with a simple yes. Kaito ended the call and looked at me, indicating that she had agreed. I bit my bottom lip a but before looking away. This was the last thing on my list. I just hoped she would agree.

Meiko arrived sooner than I thought. She entered his house as if she knew her crook. She was wearing a floral summer dress as her hair was a bit tad wet, maybe from the shower she took. She looked sad though, and broken as she looked at Kaito before he eyes flickered to me.

"We...gotta talk." She nodded, knowing full well what this was about as we headed to the living room. I made Meiko sit comfortably with pillows behind her back and making sure she was well sat, even though Meiko looked at me confused.

"What are you doing?" she asked as I smiled at her.

"Making you comfortable. You are pregnant after all."

She seemed to be taken aback at the kind gesture and I could see something warm worming up in her eyes before she snapped and looked at Kaito. "What do you want to talk about?"

"The baby," Kaito said softly as I sat next to Meiko. Kaito sighed as he sat at the edge of the coffee table, looking at Meiko a bit sadder. Meiko looked defeated for a moment as her eyes glassed out.

"I won't..." Her voice was thick and it wavered a bit. "I won't abort it!"

"Meiko..."

"No!" Meiko yelled as she snapped her eyes and glared at him, her tears threatening to fall. "You don't know what I've been through in my life and now this happens to me and you want to take it away?"

"Meiko, you have to understand my situation."

"Then, what about mine? Mine isn't any less important because I'm some cheap woman?"

"That's not what I meant!" Kaito yelled suddenly as I was startled with how defensive his words sounded. Meiko simply smirked at him hurt, her tears finally falling down from her eyes.

"I never thought you would have changed this much, Kaito." Kaito looked elsewhere as I sighed.

"Kaito..." I looked at him as Kaito shook his head.

"But I can't marry you, Meiko!" Meiko couldn't help but to nod.

"Don't you think I know that? Don't you think it has never occurred to me that we will never have a future together?"

"Then, why in the world are you doing this to me?" Kaito got up, quite infuriated at the sudden turn of events.

"Because I want you to acknowledge that we at least had something together!" That stunned Kaito as he looked at her, his face growing blank and that was when everything clicked into place.

"What?"

"I have loved you for a long time and you know that I would never betray you like that. But you assumed I did and left me. You, bastard, left me! When I needed your help most!"

Guilt surfaced Kaito's face as he looked at Meiko. I couldn't help but to wince at the pain filled voice Meiko was using. "I...just want you to acknowledge that we were once so great together. Was that so wrong? And now, this baby, I finally have a family. And when I thought that maybe this time, you would acknowledge at least this was real, you asked me to abort it. And for what? For your own selfish needs!"

"Meiko-"

"You had a family who still wants you. Even as scumbag your father is, he still loves you. But me? You know damn well that I don't and this baby...is now my only reason for living."

"Meiko," I said as I felt my own tears coming out from my eyes. Meiko snapped her head and looked at me before she shook her head.

"I'm sorry to had dragged you into this mess. I'm sorry you...you have to be apart of this. But he should know." I nodded at her, not even denying as I quickly hugged her. She went rigid for a while as I cried.

"We'll figure something out." She released herself from me as her eyes few wide.

"What?"

Kaito sighed and nodded before he sat back down on the coffee table. He slowly took hold of Meiko's hand and hugged it, his own tears appearing at the edge of his eyes as he kissed her fingertips. "I'm sorry...for everything."

Meiko was stunned as she looked at her once old love. "What are you saying?"

"I didn't know I had hurt you so much. I just thought about myself. About my pains and about my hurt. I...wished I was stronger so I could have helped you. But my own selfishness got in the way. And even now. With...our baby." Kaito's eyes slowly met mine and for the first time in my life, I felt relieved that he had taken up to his actions.

True, I still felt a pang of hurt in my heart but I knew this was for the best. "I..." Meiko was speechless as she looked at him before she snapped her head and looked at me. "What are you guys...?"

"We're not going to let you all alone. Not anymore since you has an infant in you and since Kaito...Kaito is the father, it's only rational he helps you. I might be his future wife, but that doesn't mean that an innocent life has to die because of that reason. Not now..." I slowly said as I looked at Kaito. "Not ever."

Meiko widened her eyes, disbelief in her own orbs before Kaito tugged her hands so she would pay attention to him. "I'm sorry for ever saying such a thing. I was just so scared but...no matter. I'll take responsibility for my actions. Just...promise me one thing, will you?"

Meiko nodded, still in disbelief. "Don't kill yourself. I will still marry Luka. I love her now and what we had was in the past. I will, I know that I'll fall in love with our baby, no doubt but...I want to move on. I want to love again and I'm pretty sure, you wanted to do that too, right?"

Meiko looked defeated once again as I bit my bottom lip. She sighed a bit before her shaggy maroon hair hung on her face softly. She nodded after a while and for the first time, I saw a smile marking its way on her lips. And they were sincere.

"I can't promise that I'm fine or will be ever fine but...thank you, Kaito. For finally acknowledging."

I felt tears brewing once again as I sniffed and smiled softly at the scene. Somehow, I was a bit excited with the baby. I looked at Meiko and beamed at her. "Meiko, no hard feelings? We can be friends now, right?"

Meiko giggled a bit as she looked at me, her hated completely vanishing. "No hard feelings, kid."

I couldn't help but to smile wider at that. "And yeah," she said softly. "I would like being friends with you."
