Chapter 11: Clash Of The Alphas

A/N: Shout out to "Outside The Crayola Box" for her heartfelt and totally awesome (thumbs up if anybody gets that reference) review. I somewhat gave you what you asked for in your review, but there will be an actual chapter devoted mainly to that purpose in the next chapter. I'm not a huge fan of Claire so I write less of her than my other characters and I tend to write more of Massie because she is my favorite character. The other characters cycle who gets more story-time based on my mood for each day. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this chapter and that's it good enough to keep you happy for a bit.

"We need to talk," Skye Hamilton said, sliding into a vacant seat at the table. She smoothed out her baby blue, circular dance skirt and crossed her long, tanned, muscular dancer's legs, swinging a baby blue and gold candy ankle bracelet Sweet Dolly pump clad foot in a circular motion. She'd paired her skirt with a white, tank top button down that she'd tied at the waist to reveal a slim sliver of toned, tanned stomach. Her arm was cluttered with golden bangles, each a symbol of a different boy she had kissed even if all the bracelets looked alike.

A golden chain with two interlocking rings hung around her neck, and golden, girly bow-tie earrings were firmly locked into her ear. Her blonde hair with the darker highlights was pulled back into a half-up-half-down style away from her face, a white bow containing her straightened locks. A baby blue Saint Laurent purse was dropped carelessly to the floor besides her, opened to show her matching colored wallet and blue and white polka dotted makeup bag that were inside, along with her iPhone with the Chanel, baby blue nail polish case. A pair of golden sunglasses with tinted blue frames were carelessly tossed loose in the bag in a matter that appalled Massie, who always took excellent care of her things.

Skye's make-up was minimum, showing off her natual beauty and she was dressed in her usual ballet-ready ensemble that was usually purchased from her family's dance study, the Body Alive Dance Studio, where Alicia performed along with the DSL Daters and Olivia Ryan.

Becca Brie pulled up a chair and took her designated spot on Skye's right, golden blonde hair falling in loose curls around her pretty face. With make-up as neutral as Skye's it almost looked as though she wasn't wearing any. She wore a pair of faded denim cropped ultra skinny straight leg jeans and a pink sequinced, sheer top with a tank top underneath. Matching pink suede pumps completed her look and her pink Louis Vuitton purse and matching wallet only added to her ensemble, as did her hot pink sunglasses that were obviously only there to hold her hair back from her face.

Missy Cambridge dropped into a seat on Skye's other side, pulling the chair up immediately after Becca. She had her platinum blonde hair in loose, beach waves falling around her face in a careless style, her pale skin and tiny featured face showing her disinterest in what was happening around her. A purple halter dress with a golden belt and matching purple open toe, strapped high heeled sandals showed off her strong arms and legs as well as her ample cleavage. A Dooney and Bourke purple leather bag was on her lap and she was searching through the bag, obviously trying to entertain herself. She tossed her Kate Spade purple leather purse around, until she found her purple tinted sunglasses and pushed them onto her head, pulling her hair from her face. Her purple spiraled earrings were revealed in the movement and her golden DANCE necklace hung dangerously close to her cleavage. Her DANCE golden ring was placed right on her middle finger, where it would hurt the most if she punched somebody in the face-something Missy was known to do.

On Becca's other side was Heidi Sprout, the curly haired blonde with a fetish for lime green clothes. On that particular day she was wearing black leather skinny jeans and a lime green peplum tank top. A matching green purse was placed on the table before her and Massie knew her black and lime green wallet was placed inside, along with her matching green sunglasses. Black sparkly pumps-peep toe, of course-sat on her feet.

Leslie Lynn Rubin was positioned on the other side of Missy. Leslie and Heidi were twin sisters, but one lived with their father, the other with their mother. Leslie had taken on her mother's new husband's name while Heidi had kept her father's name.

Leslie liked darker shades of green than her sister and was currently wearing a green and golden tank top with tan skinny leg jeans. Sparkly T-bar nude pumps covered her feet and a matching green purse and wallet were on the table before her. Her green and gold sunglasses completed her outfit, sitting at the top of her head to hold back her own blonde curls.

"What's up?" Massie asked.

She knew it had to be something severe, because there was no way that Skye would bring her entire clique up the Massie and her own clique as a whole, in front of a majority of the school, if it weren't for something huge.

"I heard Derrick Harrington was dating Olivia Ryan."

"I broke up with him. He's trying to make me jealous. He should realize that he needs to do a lot better than Duh-livia if he wants to make me jealous," Massie shrugged, crossing her arms over her chest.

Skye was not going to scare her. Not right there, in front of not only her entire clique, but her entire school. No, Skye was not going to win that round and Massie wouldn't give her the satisfaction of showing her that she made her sweat. Massie was going to let everybody know that, like always, Massie was cool and collected when faced with a popular, older girl coming up to talk to her. It was just another every day part of life for Massie Block, after all.

"And if there are four of you and four Briarwood Boys that are seem as suitable in your grade, who are you planning on taking to homecoming?" Skye asked, raising her pale, plucked eyebrows.

"There are actually five suitable Briarwood boys in our grade and Danny Robbins has a crush on me, according to my sources. I've gotten it all taken care of, Skye. No worried!" Massie flashed her reassuring grin at the blonde.

"Good." Skye narrowed her eyes. "Because I put my faith in you, and you don't want to disappoint me," Skye pushed her chair back and stood up, storming off in the direction from which she had come. Becca and Missy, still angry at Massie for making Homecoming court, stood up and followed immediately after her.

Heidi and Leslie stood up slowly, sharing a questioning look with one another.

"We shouldn't be telling you this, but we're kinda terrified of what Skye's going to do if she's wrong about you guys, and if we don't tell you, she'll be proven wrong. Beside, we actually like you-we'd rather leave the school to you four than anybody else. So, you should know Olivia and that new girl are planning on throwing an ultimate Halloween party to top yours. And they're going to do the invites first so it looks like you copied them. But, they're waiting until they have Layne securely tucked onto their side," Heide explained in a rush.

"DO something to stop them-you don't want an alpha clique of blondes. Believe us," Leslie giggled, flipping her blonde locks over her shoulders before hooking her arm through her sister's and hurrying off after their clique.

"What are we going to do?" Alicia asked as the girls settled into Massie's Range Rover after school, Isaac heading towards Starbucks to get them each a relaxing, stress-relieving coffee or tea. They needed to calm down after the day they'd had.

"We're not going to be bothered by the Blonde Squad. They haven't even won Layne over yet, Leesh. Calm yourself, alright?" Kristen shook her head. She'd text her mother after school and begged for another night at Massie's, saying that they'd gotten a group project to work on and would need all the time they could get to finish it, as it was due on Monday. Kristen would be spending the weekend at Massie's house as well. It wasn't a complete lie-they did have a project-that just wasn't their sole purpose on the sleepovers.

"Always the practical one," Dylan giggled stretching out her feet. "Seriously, though-we don't need to worry. Massie's birthday is in October-the twenty eighth, remember? Who's gonna give up Massie Block's birthday party for Duh-Livia Ryan and Kuh-Laire Lyons' stupid Halloween party that they think is going to be better than ours," Dylan gathered her thick hair and wrapped it up into a ponytail.

"Exactly. I've been texting my parents all day about my party. We're going to have Landon Dorsey do the entire thing. She's the best around, and you know I never settle for anything less than number one. Anyways, we're going to have an extremely awesome theme and it's going to be totally scary with a haunted house set up in the barn. I know that's supposed to be getting converted to a spa/gym, but my parents are having the construction stop until after the party, that way it has an even creepier air to it at the party." Massie explained, typing away on her cell phone. "Oh, and since it's my super sweet sixteen-we'll be having a court, and you four are obviously on it," Massie tossed her phone aside carelessly when she had sent her text.

"Court?" Alicia asked, raising her eyebrows as she worked on fixing her lipstick.

It had been a long day for the girls, with their club meetings, sports practices and Alicia's dance class that they had just picked her up from, after the other girls had their own commitments at the school. Alicia needed some time to prep herself and primp, just incase Massie decided to throw some plans at them where they might be seen in public.

"Yeah, like, my best friends who are going to get escorted out by insanely adorable boys who also happen to be on my court, and we'll all have matching, sexy costumes to show off how hot we are," Massie winked at her friends.

"I love your ideas," Kristen complimented, an excited gleam sparkling in her eyes.

"What are we gonna do for costumes?" Dylan wondered, searching through her bag for her phone, obviously eager to start assisting with the party. Dylan loved throwing parties and any excuse to plan one became her top priority. It was why she was constantly volunteering to be on the committee for all the school dances. She just loves to have everybody compliment a party that she had helped to plan and had pretty much single handedly made amazing thanks to her talents when it came to planning a party and her mother's connections.

Massie paused, grabbing her phone again as it started to vibrate. She held up a finger to silence her friends, before sliding her finger across the screen to unlock the phone. She sighed, hating who was on the other end because she wasn't ready to talk to him about what was going on between them at the moment. She had too many other things on her mind, and she really didn't want to hear him confirm the rumors that he was dating Olivia Ryan. That would be too painful, even if Massie herself had been the one to break up with him in the first place. But, she couldn't keep on avoiding him. It was rude, and why prolong what had to happen at some point anyways? She might as well face the music right then and there.

"Derrick?" She asked into the phone, barely realizing how breathless her voice sounded-she hadn't realized she'd been holding her breath while taking her time to answer him. She mentally swore at herself, angry that she was showing weakness at the power of a boy in front of all of her friends.

"You answered," Derrick released a sigh of relief into the phone and Massie could feel her cheeks turning red as the blood rushed up to them, tainting them in a pale pink blush. She loved the effect that she had on him, and she wished that she could share his reactions to her with her friends-but at the same time, she was glad that she wasn't sharing their moments-they were private. They were between the two of them and Massie thought that sharing them would taint them. But still, she wanted her friends to know that, even if Massie was appearing to be weak, he was just as weak as she was when it came to her.

"What's up with you and Olivia?" She blurted out.

Her tone wasn't accusatory. She wasn't trying to make him angry. She wasn't angry in herself. Instead, she sounded hurt, as if she wasn't how she was supposed to react to what was going on between the two of them at that moment. She wished that she could have had a bitter, angry, pissed off tone or a sarcastic comment that would make her friends crack up because of her wit. But she couldn't be that girl with Derrick. She just wasn't able to, and that killed her more than her feelings for him.

"I was trying to piss you off, but Cam made me feel like an idiot for being so stupid. Listen, I'm sorry I freaked out over you and Kemp. I should have just trusted you. And I'm sorry I told you...what I told you. It was stupid of me, whatever-I'm an idiot, I know. The guys already told me everything you were probably thinking. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know-whatever's going on between you and Kemp...I don't care. It's gonna hurt to see, but I'd rather have you as my friend and in my life than have you...not," He finished lamely.

"Alright-we can be friends," Massie nodded. "But...that really throws off my plan for my Sweet Sixteen Court-I only have three best friends and there are now five guys that are my close friends. Whatever shall I do to make my decision?" Massie said playfully.

"Come on, Mass-don't torture me," He whined.

"Nobody likes a whiner," She teased him. "Anyways-I'm not into Kemp, okay? We went out, whatever-it doesn't work."

"I figured, since you're going on a date with Josh tonight," Derrick said, only a little bit of bitterness tainting his voice.

"What? Who told you I'm going out with Josh tonight? We are not going on a date!" Massie shrieked. Alicia's head whirled around, glossy mane slapping her in the face as she glared at Massie, mouth a stern line. Massie held up a finger to her friends, hitting the speaker button on her phone. "I never once agreed to a date to him. I said we could go get some fro-yo or something because he wanted to get to know me better because he just moved here and he hasn't gotten a chance to talk to anybody besides the boys and Alicia yet. Besides, I would never do that to Alicia," Massie went on.

"Whoa-slow down, Mass," Derrick laughed. "First of all-Josh isn't into Alicia. He thinks she's boring, even if she is hot," Derrick went on.

Alicia's jaw dropped and her eyes grew wide in shock. Right before she started to go off on an angry, Spanish swear-word rant about how rude Derrick was for saying that and how Josh was an inconsiderate dick for thinking that, Dylan lunged across the car and slapped a hand over her mouth to silence her.

"And he's been asking all the guys about you since he moved here and first heard your name. He figures there's gotta be something there if every guy at Briarwood can't shut up about you. Why do you think he asked you out? To talk about the weather? He wants to try and get in your pants," Derrick said and Massie could picture him clenching his fists at the thought.

"Well you can bet that I'll be calling him to-"

"Don't cancel," Derrick said.

"Why?"

"Because as big of a jerk that Josh is, I think it's all an act and I feel like you can break through to him and get him to loosen up and be a good guy. Just talk to him, and in the meantime, talk Alicia up to him, you know? And besides-you and Cam being best friends is great and all, but everybody's already saying how Josh reminds them of you-minus him being a jerk. I really do think you'd hit it off, just not in a romantic way," Derrick insisted.

"Only because I like you," Massie relented.

"That's what I like to hear!" He said cheerfully. "So, I'll be taking you out for a date tomorrow night after the game," He said quickly before hanging up.

"You've got to give that guy credit," Dylan said in disbelief as she released Alicia. "He never gives up," She giggled.

"Do me a favor, Mass? Give that dick hell," Alicia glared.

"Oh, I'm not giving him hell. You are going to give him hell. I'm just going to act as the middle man while I tell him about how awesome you are," Massie winked. "And when I'm done with you and Josh, I'm going to start working on Kemp and Kristen's relationship," Massie concluded cheerfully.

"This isn't good," Claire ranted as she fell backwards onto Olivia's bed.

And she wasn't just talking about the overload of pink that was Olivia's bedroom. She was talking about how Derrick had backed out of his and Olivia's plans without telling Olivia after Olivia had started telling everybody about their relationship, causing Derrick to deny these rumors and make Olivia look like a liar. She was talking about the fact that Heidi and Leslie, those stupid blonde twins that followed Skye Hamilton around all day, had overhead her and Olivia scheming about the party. She was talking about the fact that said blondes had already been spotted talking to Massie at lunch, after hearing Claire and Olivia. She was talking about how neither girl had gotten a chance to talk to Layne yet and she was talking about the fact that Massie and her friends were still ruling the school without a chip in their perfectly manicured nails after clawing their way to the top and clinging there for so long.

"We need a new plan. Something better," Claire declared.

She sat up, straightening out her skirt. Olivia had taken her shopping after school and purchased her an entire wardrobe with Mr. Ryan's credit card-he was ecstatic that Olivia had a friend who was not only a B-student, but living with Massie Block, and, in his own words, 'every bit as beautiful as Olivia'. Of course, Claire was later told that he said that about any blonde with blue eyes-he believed in the classic, all-American beauty, according to Olivia.

"Hold up-I just heard Hottie Josh Hotz start up his car!" Olivia held up a hand, throwing open the window.

She turned back around immediately, glaring as she crossed her arms, slamming herself down on her window seat.

"What's up? Did he have a girl with him?" Claire asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

"He didn't just have a girl. He has Massie Block with him and Alicia Rivera. And Derrick is in the back seat. Go look-they're sitting in the driveway right now because Alicia and Massie are having a fucking photo shoot because Josh has a Camaro in fucking fire engine fucking red," Olivia steamed.

Claire sighed, standing up and padding across the carpeted floor barefoot, having kicked off her sandals long ago. She sat besides Olivia on the window sill and peaked out of the window, focusing on the bright red car with two doors. It was a convertible and the windows were just being lowered, a dark tint to their frame.

Sitting on the hood of the car, long legs curled underneath her, was a dark haired beauty by the name of Massie Block. Her dark chocolate brown locks were straightened to perfection, bangs tucked under her ears the back pieces coming over the top of it so she looked like she was wearing a natural headband. A golden necklace with maroon stones in the pieces hung around her neck with a maroon cuff bracelet on her left wrist, opposite her cluttered charm bracelet and multitude of Alex and Ani bracelets. Matching gold and maroon earrings dangled from her petite ears, down her long and slender neck. A pair of maroon sunglasses covered her amber eyes, giving her a model ready air.

She was dressed in skin tight, ultra skinny straight leg jeans in a natural wash of denim. A white, floral print, barely noticeable tube top peplum top added a simple and elegant touch to her ensemble and on her feet were sparkling, high heeled, ruby red pumps. A matching designer piece, minus the sparkles, was tossed carelessly in the grass on Josh's front lawn.

"SWITCH!" Massie's cheerful voice rang out as she removed herself from the car and took out her black and red, flower print phone case, checking for texts.

Alicia Rivera, her hair falling in loose waves over one shoulder with a bright red beret balanced on the top of her head, took Massie's place on the hood of the car, legs crossed around the ankles. Claire could see her golden and black rings sparkling in the sun-either golden with black stones or plain gold with LOVE written in a bold font. A leather black and gold wrap around bracelet was wrapped around her left wrist with a series of gold diamond studded bangles on the right. Black and gold earrings were pierced through her ears.

A pair of stretchy, ultra skinny legged jeans in a deep bright shade of red that almost exactly matched the car covered her legs, showing off their muscular structure. A black eyelet peplum top in a tee shirt style that fell off the shoulders was layered over a black tube top stretch shirt. Black peep toe pumps showed off her matador red painted nails and a quilted black and gold Coco Chanel bag was carelessly tossed besides Massie's, a phone case that read "Keep Smiling Because Life Is A Beautiful Thing And There's So Much To Smile About," vibrating on the top of the bag. Alicia's fire-designed black plastic sunglasses were covered her own eyes.

When Alicia slid off the car, a black hood was revealed, making the car look even better and even more expensive. Claire rolled her eyes as she slammed the window shut and turned back around, swinging the curtain shut in frustration.

"I hate them both," Claire grumbled.

"Does it ever bother you that Leesh and Mass are always off doing something without us?" Kristen wondered as she sat curled up on Massie's rounded windowsill in her little rounded alcove of her bedroom working on homework.

"Nah-we do plenty of stuff without them, after all. Besides, would you want to spend excess hours with just Massie doing whatever she said? Because I would never be able to handle it." Dylan rolled her eyes, glancing up at Kristen from her position on the floor where she was busy texting away to somebody unknown to Kristen.

"What are they even doing? I thought the plan was for Massie to go out with Josh and make him beg for mercy from Alicia and go crawling on his knees trying to get her back," Kristen grumbled.

"What's up with you lately? You've been kinda bitchy-are you PMS-ing? Because that means mine is coming and I'm not due for another week," Dylan frowned, looking at Kristen seriously, eyes full of concern.

"I'm not PMS-ing. I'm just saying that Massie's been going out on dates just about every night since school started and none of them have been with the same guy. I'm worried that she's gonna start getting a reputation. Or worse, realize she prefers spending time with the guys to us and ditch us to be friends with the guys instead," Kristen admitted with a sigh.

"First of all-nobody would accuse Massie of being a slut. She's way too innocent and way to against PDA. And secondly, Massie would never ditch us for the guys. She doesn't even like half of their jokes, remember? She would make the world's worst tomboy," Dylan giggled.

She stretched her arms above her head and stood up, making her way from the alcove in Massie's room towards the bathroom. "So, we all good here?" She called over her shoulder pleasantly.

"Yeah, I guess you're right-although, it is kind of boring to always be stuck at Massie's while she's out on dates," Kristen sighed.

"Glad you agree-go pick us out some sexy clothes. We're going to dinner with Plovert and Kemp," Dylan smirked over her shoulder as she disappeared into the bathroom to get ready.

Kristen jumped up and sped towards the closet. Sometimes, she loved that Dylan was her best friend.

Dylan Marvil smiled at her reflection. Kristen really did have an eye for fashion.

Dylan was dressed in grey-denim skinny jeans that Kristen had found in a dresser marked PC at the back of Massie's closet. A black tube top lace peplum top stretched across her chest. A pair of black peep toe ankle booties showed off her pedicure and her favorite angel-wing friendship necklace hung around her neck with the matching earrings. A golden ring with the word COOL was placed on her ring finger and a black oversized purse contained all that she'd need for the night. She swung her thick hair over one shoulder and grabbed her gold and black Juicy Couture phone case that read "I'm So Posting This" on the back.

She turned towards Kristen, nodding her head in approval at her outfit.

The blonde was dressed in a pleated black mini skirt with a cropped bralet sparkly black top to match. Black pumps with silver sparkles lining it and a pink leather jacket completed her wardrobe. Her hair was loose and all around her face, a black sparkling purse to match her shirt contained all of her necessary items. She had on the same jewelry as Dylan, minus the ring. Her own ring was silver and gold, reading JUICY across it and she had added a pink and black belly button ring. She had her silver and pink sparkling iPhone case that read "Stop Calling Me and Text Me" was in her hands.

"Ready?"

"But of course," Kristen smirked, blowing a kiss at her reflection.

"Just so we're clear-this doesn't mean we're back together," Massie murmured against Derrick's lips as he pressed her against a wall outside of Slice of Heaven, where the four had gone to dinner. They'd been making out for the past couple of minutes, after Massie had excused herself to take a phone call from Dylan and Derrick had followed her out, wanting a moment to talk to her in private.

"I wouldn't expect anything less," He agreed, bringing his mouth down to bite at her neck.

"Good, because we're not. Seriously, we aren't. We aren't going to be back together-not just because I'm letting you kiss me. Besides, I just broke up with you. I would seem totally bipolar if I went after you again so soon," Massie said quickly.

"Uh-huh, yeah, sure, great-whatever." Derrick rolled his eyes as he trailed kisses up and down her neck, returning back to her mouth and placing a slow kiss at the corner of her mouth, barely at her lips. "You trying to convince me or yourself about that one?" He wondered in a don't-care attitude. Really, he was putting on a complete and total act, and Massie suspected that. But she was still falling for it. She couldn't believe how indifferent he was acting towards her when he'd told her he loved her just a few nights before. But, it didn't matter if Massie knew it was an act or not. She was falling for it because she wanted to be back together with him and all she wanted was an excuse to do that.

"Oh, frudge it! Derr, just let me be your girlfriend again. I promise I won't be so horrible to you this time around. I won't hang out with Kemp and I won't hang up on you. I won't ignore you when you tell me you love me-if you still do or even meant it. And I won't bail on our plans just because I'm mad at you. I swear, I'll be nicer and try not to be such a witch all the time. Just-"

"Massie," Derrick said, pulling away from her and revealing that smile that never failed to make her heart melt. "Shut up and let me kiss my girlfriend," He said, leaning back in to give her another kiss, directly on the lips this time around.
