Chapter 11
Tu-tum, tu-tump.
In her chest.
Tu-tum, tu-tump.
In her ears.
Tu-tum, tu-tump.
Hard to not hear. Not feel.
Tu-tum, tu-tump.
Loud and fast and rhythmically. All consuming. Eating her. Nervous heart. Nervous mind. Nervous vet. Fingers fiddling. Hands wet. Feet bouncing. Eyes closed. Concentrating. Breath in. Breath out.
Knock, knock, knock.
Eyes flew open. Heartbeat stopped. Just a millisecond. Now running fast again. Last deep breath. As deep as it could be. Last glance in the mirror. Last check. Spinning around. Opening the door.
Bo: "Hi."
Wow.
Bo: "You ready?"
Wow!
Bo: "Why are you staring? Is something wrong with my outfit? I thought it was… suiting. But uh, I can change. Yeah, I'm stupid. Sorry! I go and…"
Lauren: "Wow."
Bo: "Ehm, wow?"
Eyes follow naked feet to legs in tight black pants and hips and naked arms over a sleeveless shirt, trying to not stare at that glorious cleavage, up to open dark hair, to settle on searching brown orbs.
Lauren: "You look great, Bo."
Bo: "Do I?"
Lauren: "Yes."
Nervous. She as well. Whose heart was in the vet's ears now. Her own? Or not?
Bo: "Yo- you look really nice yourself, thanks."
A smile. A chuckle. A stray of hair brushed behind her right ear.
Lauren: "Well, I had to work with what I had. And that's basically all yours."
The blonde was clothes-less. Just came with what she wore that night she got lost. So, she borrowed. All smelled like the brunette. Fruity and salty at the same time. Made her dizzy. Made her want more. Made a jungle drum out of her heart.
Tu-tum, tu-tump.
Bo: "Shall we?"
Lauren: "Yes."
Walking side by side. Uncomfortable. Bare arms touching lightly. Made the blonde shiver. Like a touch of ice. Like a cold wind. And made her skin burn. Like a hot soup. Like a fire. The mix was unbearable but left her longing.
Bo: "Soooo…"
At the front door.
Lauren: "Sooo…"
Bo: "You ready?"
Lauren: "You asked that before."
Bo: "I didn't."
Lauren: "You did."
Bo: "I think I would remember."
Lauren: "Seems you don't."
Bo: "I know I didn't."
Lauren: "Well, I can assure you, you did."
Bo: "Assure… huh."
Lauren: "Yup."
Oh boy.
Bo: "Well then."
Lauren: "Mhm."
Staring at their feet. Nice sandals. With small rims. Open door. Warm wind. Bright moon. Barn-woman ahead, leading the way. A few steps, step, step, step. Behind the barn. A table, two chairs, candle light. Plates and glass.
Lauren: "Oh?!"
The dark haired pulled out the chair. Gentlewoman through and through.
Lauren: "This looks amazing, Bo."
Bo: "Thanks."
A little smile. Almost no light to see the red spots on each cheek.
Bo: "I made us some stew."
Lauren: "That sounds great."
Bo: "I hope it is."
It was. Flavorful. Tasty. Cocos. Pineapple. Meat. Potato. Salty and sweat. Just perfect.
Lauren: "Where is your mind?"
Barn-woman grew silent. For some time now. Seemed elsewhere.
Bo: "When do you have to leave?"
Oh, that's why.
Lauren: "The day after tomorrow."
Bo: "Mhm."
Not now. Not yet.
Lauren: "Don't."
Bo: "What?"
Lauren: "We were supposed to enjoy this evening."
Bo: "So I should just forget that you'll be gone in two days?"
Lauren: "Well, no. But let it not ruin tonight."
Bo: "I tried, Lauren. It's not easy. I just got used to having you here."
The vet, too.
Lauren: "you could come with me."
Bo: "Excuse me?"
You heard.
Lauren: "You could come with me."
Bo: "Where to? The airport?"
Lauren: "Don't play the silly one. To Toronto."
Bo: "I don't even know where that is."
Lauren: "It's in Ca..."
Bo: "That was a metaphor. I know where Toronto is."
Lauren: "Sorry."
They finished eating. Silent again. Stars. Moon. Candles. Even wine. Perfect. Just the timing wasn't. Her timing, as usual.
Lauren: "Why not?"
Bo: "Why what?"
Lauren: "Come with me?"
Bo: "And leave all this? My house? My Job?"
Lauren: "I don't even know what you do."
Bo: "I'm a fisher."
Lauren: "I see."
A deep breath. Another one.
Bo: "Just leave it Lauren."
And she's gone. Back around the barn. Leave it. Leave it?
Lauren: "Bo, wait."
Following around and in.
Lauren: "What about as a vacation?"
Bo: "We would just postpone the inevitable."
Lauren: "But we would have us some longer."
Caught the hand. Sipping the dark haired around. Holding close. Looking into even darker eyes. Sad eyes. Hurt eyes. Leaning in. Kissing cheeks. Caressing neck.
Lauren: "I don't want to say goodbye just yet."
Arms came around the blonde. A tight embrace.
Bo: "Me neither."
Lauren: "Then let's just do it. Come with me. See my world, now that I saw yours."
A mumbled word from the crook of the neck.
Lauren: "Huh?"
Bo: "I'm afraid."
Looking back into those eyes.
Lauren: "I'm with you. We can make it."
Bo: "Are you sure?"
A nod. A smile. A little squeeze.
Bo: "Okay."
Lauren: "Okay?"
A nod. A smile. Another squeeze.
Lauren: "That's awesome!"
The other's face in hands, the blonde leaned in. Placing soft kisses on the hot skin. Finding each others lips. Then tongues. Hands found the hem and gone was the shirt. Exploring new territory. Another shirt flew to the ground. Moving through the room to the each of the bed.
Bo: "Take these off."
Buttons opened. Pants slid down. Bare legs touch the sheets. Laying down. First the blonde. Reaching up. Tucking on fabric to move away. Skin met skin. So warm, so soft. Turning around, touching each other.
Intimately. Passionately.
Kisses grew sloppy. Movement went wild. Harsh breaths. Hissed words. Losing sync.
Heat waves. Crushing over them. Leaving them breathless. Leaving them shivering. Leaving them wanting more.
Hands in hair, on back, on track. Rolling around. Legs between legs between sheets.
Slowing down the pace. Slowing down the race. Taking time to linger. To take in the scene.
More kisses to share. Less stormy. Less rough.
Tongues slide. Over collars. Over earlobes. Over necks and shoulders. More caresses. More cherishing.
Bo: "You smell amazing."
Lauren: "You taste perfect."
A perfect night. A perfect barn. With the perfect girl in a perfect world.
