Hello my lovelies! I've had this half typed for a while, so I decided: what better to do at 10o'clock on the night before finals than not study and instead write fanfiction?!
Yeah I'm fricken stupid. Schools almost over. I kinda lost interest in this project...but I'm going to keep going. Because I really am excited for stuff that's happening.
I tried something new this time, and tried the story from Julius' point-of-view. I just felt that, for one) Skipping everything that happened between Molly passing out and whatever's going to happen next chapter was kinda dumb, and two) I wanted to establish Julius' and Molly's relationship by his standards.
I'm sorry, I feel like I really failed on it's probably a one-time deal, unless y'all want to see more sassy Julius? Let me know. Criticize it, I don't care. I feel like I did horrible.
Anywho...besides the fact that it's kinda cruddy, I hope you enjoy. And I hope my 24-hour without sleep writing makes enough sense. I don't have any editors but myself for this. And if you really think I'm going to sit down and edit something I'm just doing for fun...["What Makes You Haha" plays in the background]
That's about it...oh! Also, just a PSA, but on the side of this, you may want to know that I'm working on another fanfiction. One about Doctor Alex from Magical Melody this time! I have about half of the first chapter written, so that should be published sometime soon, perhaps. I'm also like 300 years ahead of myself and planning the sequel for this fanfiction...someone, send help.
OKAY NOW GOODBYE MY LOVELIES! ENJOY!
Chapter 11
Magic Fits
Molly leaned over the table, all ears to Witch Princess. She didn't like this lady, not in the slightest. She was rude, and she had a powerful wit, and worst of all, she'd managed to hurt Kasey. But who else could she go to for help? She needed information! She needed details! She needed to figure out why her brother was so...recluse to her when this girl popped up in conversation. She couldn't stand the secrets. She couldn't stand the kicked-puppy look Kasey would adopt whenever Molly so much as spoke the name of the witch.
Molly tilted her head as Julius leaned forward, too, propping his chin against her shoulder. His petite arms wrapped around her abdomen, and the presence of her friend calmed her. Witch Princess had her head perched in the crook of her clasped hands, studying Molly. Molly wasn't sure what the girl was looking for, but decided against backing down and looking away.
Finally, with a smirk, Witch Princess began. "Tell me, did...your brother explain how we met?" Molly nodded slowly, but grimaced.
"Well, he told me that you were a frog, and that he and Wizard saved you. And then he...said that you two became best friends." Molly summarized Kasey's story from the couple weeks prior.
Julius let out a soft 'ooh', and murmured, "Sounds like a fairy-tale if I've ever heard one."
"They didn't save me!" Witch Princess defended. She groaned, and shook her head. "No, no, no. They simply aided me."
Molly decided not to react to Witch Princess' little pride fit. And just looked at her with disinterest until she continued.
"Anywho, after that little..fiasco, your brother is right. We became...good friends." She finally started again. "You know, we hung out a lot and stuff. Probably like you and that handsome lug under you." She purred, winking at Julius.
Julius chuckled, shaking Molly, and the girl sighed. Stop being such a damn flirt and get on with it! Am I this annoying when I talk to Jin? She wondered, scowling at the table.
Molly looked up when the story went on. "And I guess he just...was taken with me. I am a beautiful, magical creature after all!" She flipped her hair for dramatic effect. "Of course, I'm far too kind and caring, especially for my wonderful friend Kasey, to turn him down flat. So I said yes, and we dated." Molly watched the girl closely, and saw her face turn from the smug smile, into a less energetic smirk. Her eyes began to sink to the table. Molly could almost visually see the woman before her deflating as she spoke.
"And we...dated for nearly a year." She stated. Suddenly, her eyes looked up at Molly. "Do you know the law that applies to magical creatures?"
Molly stared blankly at Witch Princess. There was a law? What did she mean, the law?
Witch Princess seemed to take Molly's long silence as a no, because she launched into an explanation. "Well, since you're so dense that you don't know; Magical Creatures, such as Wizards, Witches, and Harvest Gods, cannot give our names to humans. If they know someone's name, they can control them." Her expression darkened. "I told your brother my name."
Molly cupped her hand over her mouth, and she heard a grunt of surprise from Julius in her ear.
"I didn't mean to! It was an accident! But I wanted to hear him say it." Her cheeks flushed. "It was our first time…"
Molly suddenly slammed her hands into the table. "No, don't! I don't want to hear anything about that!" She gasped, her face turning redder than Witch Princess'. "You keep those experiences to yourself!"
Witch Princess scoffed, and shrugged. "Suit yourself." She muttered. "The morning afterwards, Kasey and I talked, and he asked me about it." She closed her eyes, but Molly could have swore she saw her eyes sparkle with the threat of tears. "I laid my heart down on the table, and he walked away." She took a deep breath, gripping the table. "He broke it off. He broke it off!" She looked at Molly harshly, her amber eyes obviously watery, now. "He learned my name, and left me. Do you understand what that did to me? Why should he be upset after he went and...and...stole my heart?" She stood up, glaring at Molly. "He's a terrible person! Why should I be the one blamed for it- by you! Of all people! His sister, who wasn't even here. Who didn't even know about us!"
Molly stood up. "Kasey is not a terrible person!" She defended haughtily. "Why should I believe that he just ran away? I don't trust you!"
"Why'd you even come to me then?" Witch Princess challenged, stepping away from the table.
"I wanted answers." Molly stated. "Not your bullshit lies."
Molly's eyes widened suddenly as Witch Princess' house went dark, and the woman's eyes lit up with anger. "You're really accusing me of lying?" She asked. "Your brother's the one who's lying to you, sweetheart! Your brother's the one who broke me!"
Molly shook her head, stepping towards the angry witch. "No! Kasey would never, ever do that!" She yelled.
Witch Princess' face reddened. "You'll regret upsetting me, you little brown-headed rat!" She lights flickered, and Molly, frightened, began running towards the door. Julius was already ahead of her, holding it open. As she reached it, something came flying at her, and gas engulfed her. She tumbled from the house, choking as sputtering as the gas was sucked into her lungs.
The clouds of air dissipated after a few moments, and Molly lay, staring at the sky, catching her breath hastily in big gulps. Julius was by her side in second, ready to help her up.
"Molly, are you okay?" Julius fretted as Molly was finally tugged to her feet. She stumbled, and fell into his arms, crying.
"Kasey's not a bad person, Julius!" She sobbed. "She's lying! I know she is!" Julius pulled her to his chest, combing his hands through her hair calmingly. Molly didn't even register that he was allowing her to dampen his clothing with her tears. She just curled into him, and followed his lead as they walked away from the little swamp hut.
Julius' P.O.V.
By the time Julius and Molly had reached the edge of the wood, Molly was back to normal, aside from her puffy red eyes. Julius allowed her arm to link with his as she walked quietly beside him. It was quieter than usual for the usually sporadic girl. She stumbled slightly, and Julius jerked to a halt, looking down at his friend. Maybe she wasn't back to normal.
"Molly, dear, are you okay?" He asked, unlinking arms and shaking her shoulder.
Molly looked up, her eyes were dilated, and Julius realized that it wasn't just her eyes that were red. Her cheeks were flushed a light, pink. She looked exhausted suddenly. "I'm fine." She murmured. "Just, uhm, dizzy." She offered a somewhat reassuring smile, and Julius allowed her to continue walking. He followed behind in a quiet manner.
As the pair made their way towards the edge of the wood, Molly stumbled again. Julius rushed up behind her, catching her before she tumbled over. She pushed herself up, shaking her head. "I'm fine." She sighed, rubbing her eyes.
Julius turned her around, ready to examine her again, but was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Molly, is that you?" Kasey trudged through the entrance to Fugue Forest, an axe held over his shoulder. Luke followed behind him. "It is! What are you doing here?"
The blue-haired wonder, Luke, lifted his gaze to Julius. "Woah! And how in the heck did'ja get this guy out here?" He asked, looking surprised.
Molly was staring at her brother blankly, and Julius could see the panic in her eyes when he came to stand beside her. He turned to Kasey with a smirk. "We were out scavenging, and it seemed I was the only person off of work on a Thursday morning." He put his hands out, palms up. "Being the great friend I am, I told her I'd come out with her." He pointed to his boots, scowling. "I payed for it, too. Molly, darling, you'll be scrubbing these for me later." He said, nudging Molly out of her trance.
The girl finally straightened up, tossing an appreciative smile towards Julius. Her smile faltered slightly, and Julius avoided his gaze from her's, when Kasey spoke up.
"If you were scavenging, then where's the stuff you found?" He asked, eyeing Molly and Julius in turn with a scrutinizing gaze. Julius avoided his eyes, holding a hand to his face and nonchalantly examining his nails. He wracked his mind for an excuse, but was surprisingly saved by Molly.
"I-I fell. From a tree. My bag ripped, and we couldn't carry any of it back." She quickly lied, blinking up at Kasey with puppy-dog eyes. He scoffed at her expression silently, but smirked and looked back to his hands.
"So's that how you got that scrape on your head?" Julius yanked his gaze up at Luke's words, and he spotted the red mark on Molly's forehead as it began to appear. Was that from the bottle that had been thrown? Worry jolted through him, along with guilt. He hadn't even noticed that the colorful gas wasn't the only thing to have hit Molly.
Molly raised a hand to her head, her cheeks flushing red, redder than they already had been. "O-oh, yeah." She murmured.
Kasey tossed a worried look at his sister's head, and turned his eyes to Julius. The axe in his hand dangled close to the ground. "Julius, do you want me to-"
Julius waved off Kasey before he could finish talking. "Don't worry, boys. Molly, here, is fine." He raised a hand to squeeze her shoulder. "I'll take her home and clean her up. We were on our way there anyhow."
"Are you sure you're okay, Molly?" Kasey asked, brotherly concern burning his gaze. It was a look Julius didn't see in the male farmer very often. He must have felt guilty for not realizing his sister's injury before Luke, of all people, had. Julius could almost say he felt the same. He'd come to 'keep Molly safe'. Not let her get a concussion and some wacky witch spells tossed at her.
"I'm fine Kasey. I'll see you tonight." With that, Molly walked forward to leave. Julius followed suite, and walked straight until the gazes of Luke and worried Kasey faded. Julius looked down at Molly, and he felt a frown latch to his lips.
"Molly, are you okay?" He asked, placing a hand on her shoulder. The girl's legs were shaking, and she was tottering slightly back and forth.
"I-I'm fine, Julius." She managed to say, though her words were becoming slurred. If he didn't know any better, he would say she was drunk. "Just...tired." She raised a hand to her mouth to yawn, and kept walking. She didn't get very far before she stumbled again, and tripped. Julius grabbed her arm and yanked her up. Molly muttered something along the lines of, "sleepy," before her legs gave out and she slithered to the ground.
Julius felt his heart lurch, and he hefted up the unconscious Molly into his arms- arms that were surprisingly strong considering the frilly man who owned them. Without a second thought, Julius launched into a run - though it was more like an ungraceful jog - towards town. Molly needed Doctor Jin. He was sure to know what to do...if this was a concussion. Julius' red gaze drifted down to his friend, hanging limply in his arms. But what if it wasn't a concussion? The red mark looked painful, yes, but it wasn't deep, and it hadn't bruised over. At worst, it looked like she'd walked head-first into a thorn bush.
Julius thought back to the gas that had engulfed Molly earlier, the burning air that she had sucked into her lungs. Julius had never really been one to believe in superstition and magic. But considering everything he had seen today. He was beginning to rethink that. Maybe...just this once, something supernatural, magic...something had happened, and maybe it had happened to Molly. So maybe Doctor Jin wasn't the only person he should contact. But who knew how to deal with magic?
Julius didn't notice as gross, sticky sweat gathered on his forhead, or under his tight shirt. He ignored the cows that mooed at him from Kasey's property as he passed it. He ignored his aching feet, and the unseemly splotches of goop that continued to find its way to his boots. This stupid girl. He would never love her like he loved Candace, and he would never love her like he was bound to love his child whenever he or she came along. But he did love Molly. He loved Molly like she was his helpless little sister. And he wanted nothing to harm her. He was sure Kasey would have been doing the same thing right now had they not left them in Fugue Forest minutes before.
As Julius rounded the corner into town, his eyes trailed up towards the Clinic, then further until his eyes landed on the famous giant telescope on the hill. The wizard. Wizard had to know something about whatever Witch Princess had done. If she'd even done something.
Julius made a sharp turn as he reached the path to the clinic, and pushed his way into the building. He huffed and puffed and scanned the place for Jin or his grandmother. When the black haired doctor came running, probably from how much noise Julius had made when he pushed through the door, the flamboyant man thrust Molly forward. Jin quickly took the girl, and rushed away to the examination room behind his screen. Julius hunched over, hands on his knees, breathing heavily. He hadn't run like that since High School. He didn't miss that.
Irene came rushing from the examination room moments later, and Julius was forced to breathlessly explain what had happened. He gritted his teeth against eachother. He felt absolutely disgusting, sticky, smelly. He couldn't wait until he was home, could bathe… He had more to do. After Irene dismissed him, and disappeared behind the curtain again, Julius stumbled from the clinic, and hobbled up the steps towards Wizard's house.
He didn't bother knocking, and pushed the door open roughly. "Wizard!" He called. "Wizard, please come out!" He stepped inside, and was immediately met with the two-colored gaze of the gray-haired man. Julius jumped back, gasping, "Goddess, you scared me!"
Wizard didn't respond, only stared at Julius and asked, "Can I...help you?"
Julius clicked his tongue, and jabbed his thumb in the direction of the Clinic. "It's Molly." He murmured. Julius could have sworn he saw Wizard's expression shift slightly, but if it had, it had only been for a split second, and he hadn't been able to read it. "We- she…" Julius had heard multiple rants about how Wizard had told Molly not to meddle with Kasey and Witch Princess' affairs. "You see, the poor dear was just absolutely, positively distressed over her brother's lock-and-key attitude." He clutched a hand to his leg, tapping it lightly. "So I obliged to take her out and talk to the gray-haired menace in the woods." Julius threw his arms in the air, showing exasperation. "On our way out, the crazy lady tossed some bottle at my darling Molly, and she sucked those gasses right up." He concluded his story.
Wizard stared at Julius with a slight intensity for a few moments, before he averted his gaze. "Take me to her…"
