Chapter 12

After his first therapy session with Dr. Anderson Danny had a different outlook on psychiatrists.

At first he thought that psychiatrists weren't really there to help their patients and solve their problems. That they just listened to their patients week after week to watch their pay checks grow. So Danny could definitely say that he was feeling a lot better going to this therapy session than the one he went to the previous week.

Danny sat in the waiting room with the Gordons as they saw the door to Dr. Anderson's office open.

"Daniel, how are you today?" Dr. Anderson asked with a slight smile.

"G-good."

"That's good to hear. Please come in." The psychiatrist held the door open for Danny as they both made their way inside.

After Danny took his seat Dr. Anderson wasted no time and started the session.

"I hope the Gordons have told you to speak about your past...more clearly." He received a small nod.

"Good."

But there wasn't much of his past that Danny had remembered that didn't sound made up in the first place. So he began with what he remembered about his parents.

"So they were ghost hunters?" There was disbelief clearly etched into his tone.

"Y-yes."

"Go on."

As time went by and Danny continued to mention ghosts when recalling his past Dr. Anderson grew more irritated by the minute.

"Daniel, we've been over this time and time again. Ghosts don't exist."

"B-but-"

"Daniel, there are no ghosts terrorizing an entire town, your parent are not ghost hunters, and you don't have these ghost-like abilities."

Danny didn't want to continue to listen to the psychiatrist anymore.

"These delusional fantasies of yours have to stop Daniel. Your mind is creating a new family to replace the one you can't remember. The people you are remembering are not real and they certainly don't exist."

They were real, in his heart he knew they were real. His mother, the one who tucked him in bed as a child and stayed to hold him at night until he fell asleep when he was scared of the monsters in his closet. His goofy father, who never gave up when his inventions failed or unexpectedly came to life. His sister, the smart one in the family, who was always there for him no matter what and constantly covered for him. Finally, his two best friends. They were a team, they always stayed by his side no matter how dangerous it got. They put their lives on the line for him on a daily basis. He could honestly say that they were his true friends. He could just picture them all standing side by side smiling at that exact moment. They were all real people, the feelings he had for them in his heart never told him otherwise, and no one was going to tell him any different.

"They do...exist." Danny said in a low whisper.

"What was that?"

"They are all real people!" Danny yelled. His fists were clenched as anger was visibly shown on his face.

His other half appeared in the room clearly angry as well.

"They aren't real Daniel! You have to accept that fact."

His other self was quickly losing control of his anger as a clear vase of flowers fell and splattered along the carpet. Due to the high amount of tension in the room Dr. Anderson didn't notice it fall unnaturally on its own off the small table.

"I'm sorry I have to do this to you Daniel, but you have left me with no other choice." The psychiatrist calmly walked towards his desk and pressed the red button on his intercom. "Send them in."

The next five seconds happened all too quickly to Danny. Two semi-built men in matching white medical outfits burst through the door. Each man grabbed one of his arms and began to drag him away.

"L-let me go!" Danny fought back and continued to struggle in their grips as he was lifted out of the psychiatrist's office.

Melinda and Jim had clear looks of bewilderment plastered onto their faces as they saw Danny being dragged out of the psychiatrist's office.

"They're real, they're real!"

"Danny!" Melinda ran towards him, but was held back by Jim.

It was then that she spotted the white-haired ghost next to him. He was trying with all his might to get them to release Danny as the lights above them in the hallway flickered on and off. When it got to the point where the men could barely hold him in place one of them pulled out a needle from his pocket and skillfully injected it into the side of Danny's neck. The sedative began to quickly work it's magic.

"T-they're...real..." Danny slowly closed his eyes as his vision was consumed by darkness.

The chain reaction was instant. His other self collapsed on his knees clearly in pain while grasping his chest. As he tried to fight through the pain his energy began to diminish until he could no longer sustain himself and suddenly disappeared. Once he was gone the lights started to work normally again.

Melinda was slightly confused. She had never seen a ghost in pain before, but at the moment she was more worried about Danny.

They could only watch helplessly as he was dragged away from them. They both turned to Dr. Anderson for answers.

"What's going on here?!" Jim yelled.

It was clear that they were both beyond angry at this point.

"It was unanimously decided that he would be sent to a mental institution if he could no longer grasp reality." He replied smoothly.

But Danny was just a scared child, he didn't belong in a clinically insane asylum for any reason whatsoever.

"Daniel needs help. He needs to learn the difference between fantasy and reality."

"He's just a kid!" Jim yelled, somewhat frustrated.

"All the more reason to fix his problems now."

"I hope you can live with yourself knowing just ruined someone's life." Melinda just about had enough of this psychiatrist.

"I'm just doing my job." Dr. Anderson responded with a slight smirk.

Feeling disgusted by this point, they both left that office behind before they could do something they would regret later. Melinda just hoped that Danny would be okay until figured out a way to get him out of that damn asylum.

AN: I think I might actually be able finish this story pretty soon! XD

I basically had this epiphany about what each chapter would about and planned ahead for once in my life. So if everything goes according to plan there should be 20 chapters. But I have to actually write them all out first. :(

But I'm wondering if anyone of you can spot my original character in this story and find what relationship he/she has with Danny before the end of this story. Anyone can easily guess exactly who my OC is, but I would be really surprised if they actually managed to guess the relationship. ;)

Please Review! :)
