A/N I again am going to warn about the direction of the story turning sad.
Hope you enjoy this chapter.
The roof of Gilligan's car was caved in and there was a long gash on the side of his face.
His white shirt was now red with blood. There were sounds of sirens and horns.
Two men came over to the car. They looked inside the car and saw Gilligan laying there. "Oh my God.." said the one man. "Do you think he is alive?"
"I don't know" the other man replied. "How are we going to get him out of there"
They went back to check on the other cars that had also been involved in the incident when Gilligan's car spun out of control. There were survivors that staggered out of their own vehicles with gashes and blood on their clothing.
That is when the police had arrived. It had been a horrendous accident. Several cars had been involved. The paramedics were called and within minutes they arrived. They headed over to the car where Gilligan was. The male paramedic reached in and felt for a pulse. He felt a faint one. "He's alive" He said to his female partner. "Barely. But he's alive. We've got to get him out of here"
As the female paramedic went to get some more help, the male paramedic felt for a pulse again. It was still weak. Gilligan was slipping fast. Men climbed everywhere and shouted instruction as they began to pull the car apart.
Mary Ann's Place (After accident)
She had thanked the officers and closed the door. Gilligan was in an accident.
He was being taken to the hospital. Her mind was spinning. Was he going to be okay? How bad was he? He wasn't going to….No she wouldn't even think that word.
Tears spilled out of her eyes. She needed to get to the hospital but knew that she was in no shape for driving. Her parents were still out of town. They would be back tomorrow.
With shaking hands, Mary Ann picked up the phone and dialed Scott's number. "Hello?" He answered.
"Scott." Mary Ann managed to choke out with tears in her eyes. "It's Gilligan…He's…accident….Scott….what if he…."
"Calm down..just calm down." Scott instructed. "Where are you?"
"I'm at home. The police were just here….Gilligan was in an accident….They found my name and address with his things….Scott…he….I can't lose him!"
"Just stay right there. right there. I'll coming over. Okay. Just please don't do anything."
Mary Ann nodded wiping her tears. "Okay." She hung up the phone and sat down. How could this be happening! It couldn't! Not her Gilligan! Not her lovable adorable sweet Gilligan!
Hospital
Gilligan was brought in and immediately sent over to the trauma unit. It was determined that he was in fact in need of surgery. He has a deep gash which had severed an artery. And there was damage to his internal organs. The anesthesiologist began working on him and members of the surgical team listened to what had been assessed by the trauma team.
Mary Ann had arrived with Scott and Abby in tow. The farm girl was grateful for her presence as Ginger was away checking out that role for the musical. Mary Ann had been able to get a hold of her and the movie star swore she was flying right back and the brunette better not argue. The musical was not as important as Gilligan.
Hours Later
"I never thought he would survive." One of the nurses said to the anesthesiologist as they left the operating room.
"I know it was a tough one but he pulled through." He sighed. "I'm relieved."
They had battled for almost three hours trying to keep Gilligan's blood pressure high enough to keep him alive during the operation. The managed to repair his damaged organs and his arm. The gash on his face had been taken care of as well. The team thought they were going to lose Gilligan for the first hour but they were determined to not allow him to slip away. He survived the surgery.
Dr. Wallace came over to speak to a nervous Mary Ann who was sitting with Scott and Abby.
She had been a wreck but was grateful they were there. Abby was so kind and caring. She needed that right now.
Abby was the one who contacted Gilligan's parents for her and they were taking the first flight out. She also called Mary Ann's parents who said they were rushing back home right now. Kathleen was on her way with Aunt Carol.
That was the one person Mary Ann really had no desire to see right now. She was too upset to deal with her. She probably was hoping Gilligan would die and then she could then turn to Scott who of course would just up and break Abby's heart and be with her.
Mary Ann would never in a thousand years do that to anyone. She did not love Scott. He was her friends. Nothing more and he knew that perfectly well. Besides he was very happy with his new girlfriend. The farm girl hoped he would end up marrying Abby she was just was he needed.
"Ms. Summers?" He asked.
"Yes…How…how is my fiancé? Is he…"
"He survived the surgery. We were successful in repairing his organs. And the injury sustained to his arm. He is now being moved into a room. I must tell you that he is running a fever and there was some swelling to his brain."
"Is he going to need surgery for that?" asked Mary Ann.
"It is too soon to tell at this point. He is too compromised to tolerate it."
"What if he…if he doesn't get the surgery.." Mary Ann said tearfully. "Will he be…"
"I wish I could give you a definite answer. Bran scans were taken and they do look encouraging. It is just too soon to tell at this point."
Scott nodded. "Thank you doctor." He said.
Abby looked at Mary Ann who was more distraught then ever. "It will be okay. He will pull through. You'll see."
"I want to go see him." The farm girl said. "Can I go see him?"
"Certainly. Right this way." Dr. Wallace said.
Abby spoke. "Do you want us to go with you?"
Mary Ann shook her head. "No…I'll okay."
"Alright." Abby said with a smile. "Just know we are here if you need us."
Mary Ann thanked her and walked off with the doctor to Gilligan's room. She walked inside and saw him lying on the bed with his head bandaged. Monitors beeping. Machines hissing.
Slowly she crept to his bed. She gently placed her hand on his. "Gilligan it's me. Mary Ann. I love you. I love you so much. I just want you to come back to me. I know you will. You wouldn't leave me.'" She began to sob again but then composed herself. "Listen..we survived so much on that island. Head hunters…Japanese sailor….You even survived that nasty horrible Jonathan Kincaid. You didn't let him get you. You are a fighter Gilligan. I know you are. I love you." She leaned over and gently kissed his forehead. "I loved you from the beginning. It was always you. Nobody else. It's like I told you. I've known it from the first." She rested her head carefully against him. "I've known it from the first. First time I laid my eyes on you."
Aunt Carol had arrived and stood outside the room watching. She carefully walked in. "Mary Ann?"
The farm girl looked up and anger was flashing in her brown eyes. "Get out of here. I don't want to see you."
"Mary Ann please…I just want to…"
"Want to what? What? Push me to Scott again? I bet you wish Gilligan would die don't you!" She shouted.
Carol was taken aback. "Of course I don't wish for him to die. Why would you say such a thing?"
"Because." Mary Ann snapped. "It would make it so much easier for me to be with Scott. That's what you want. You want me to marry Scott and have all his babies. Well it's not going to happen. Gilligan is going to pull through! He will! He is going to make it and I'm going to have his baby! Our baby will know its father!"
"Our baby? Mary Ann are you…."
"Yes. I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant with Gilligan's child. I don't want you in here. Please get out!"
Not wishing to upset her niece further, Carol nodded and walked out of the hospital room. She felt horrible. This is not something she had ever wished for. She never wished for any harm to come to that boy. Not once. Now he was lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life. Poor Mary Ann. Pregnant and now to have this happen.
An hour later, Elizabeth and Conrad arrived and rushed over to Gilligan's hospital bed.
Abby had gotten word from Gilligan's parents they would be there very soon. Luckily Timothy's boss was a generous man and offered them his private jet so they did not have to worry about airlines.
Ginger had called the hospital and spoke with Mary Ann who updated her on Gilligan's condition. The movie star said she would pray for him and told her she and the Professor would be there as soon as they could.
Scott had called the Howells who had arrived a few minutes ago. Mrs. Howell was demanding that every available doctor be put on Gilligan's case and Mr. Howell declared all the medical expenses were going to be covered by him and no one argue.
The Skipper also had arrived at the hospital anxious on word on his little buddy.
Mary Ann informed him of what the doctor had stated. He told the brunette that Gilligan was a lot tougher than people thought and he would make it through. He knew Gilligan and Gilligan would never give up. Never.
Ginger finally showed along with the Professor. She rushed to Mary Ann giving her a big hug. "Any change?" She asked the farm girl.
"No. Nothing." Mary Ann said.
"You poor dear…You going to be alright?" asked the concerned movie star.
"I think so. I want to stay here with Gilligan."
The redhead shook her head. "No you need to get some rest. You are going to stay with me and Roy. I won't hear another word about it. You understand?"
Mary Ann managed a smile. "Ginger you don't have to…"
"Yes I do. We sisters remember? Blood or no blood we are sisters. You should not be alone. You are staying with us and that is final."
The brunette nodded. "Okay."
"Good." Ginger said with relief.
Mary Ann looked at the Professor. "You sure you don't mind?"
"Of course not." He said. "I agree with Ginger. You shouldn't be alone."
"Alright then. I'm going to need to pick up some things at my place…if you don't mind stopping there…"
"It's not a problem." Ginger said. "Come on…let's go."
The Professor spotted Carol and then turned to his wife. "I'll be there in a minute. You two go ahead."
"Okay then." Ginger said as she put her arm around Mary Ann and led her away.
The Professor went up to Carol. "Hello." He said.
She looked up. "Oh hello. You are Ginger's husband right?"
"Yes I am." He replied. "You had met my wife at the Howells' barbeque."
"Oh yes I did." She nodded.
"You told her that she was being way too open with her affection for me and she should back off."
"Well I…."
"You listen to me. I happen to love my wife. I don't mind one bit where or when she kisses me. It is none of your business when or where she does. You have no right to make her feel bad about it. Don't you ever speak to her in that manner again. Do you understand? She loves me and if she wants to openly kiss me wherever we are she is more than welcome to do so. Ginger is not doing anything wrong. You do not have any right to make her think otherwise. You have no right to make her question her actions. My wife happens to be the most loving caring kind person I've ever met. And yes she likes to show her affection for me. So what? It's not wrong. Don't you ever make her feel like she is. Do I make myself clear?"
Carol nodded. "I understand. I'm sorry.
"And as for this business about Mary Ann. I will state once again I have never shown the slightest romantic interest in Mary Ann. Never. The only one I have is my beautiful Ginger. You have no business thinking I wouldn't want a woman like Ginger. You leave my wife alone."
"I'm sorry." She said again meekly.
The Professor nodded and walked off. He went outside to the limo where Ginger and Mary Ann were. He got inside and the driver shut the door. Mary Ann was huddled to the side staring blankly out the window. Ginger gave her husband a worried look. He patted her hand. "She'll be okay." He assured her.
The limo stopped at Mary Ann's townhouse and she went inside to pack a few things.
The farm girl took out some clothes and threw them into a bag. She packed her toothbrush and other necessities.
She paused when she saw Gilligan's dinner jacket lying on a chair. Smiling a bit, she picked it up and placed it in her bag. She also picked up the note he left her and stuck it in her bag as well.
Taking a look around to make sure there was nothing left on, she then quietly opened the door and stepped out. Heading back to the limo, the driver placed her bags inside and they headed to the Professor and Ginger's home.
Mary Ann remained quiet during the drive. Her mind was on Gilligan. She hadn't told the others she was pregnant. She blurted it out to her aunt but she did not tell the others yet. The brunette had been too upset to share her joyous news.
The limo arrived at the mansion and her bags were brought up to a guest bedroom that Ginger had made up for her. She walked inside and thought it was a pretty room. Beautiful floral print bedcover with old fashioned wooden vanity table and mirror. Just like Ginger to be so elegant with the decor.
Mary Ann went over to the window seat and sat down gazing out the window.
It was all overwhelming. Just a little while ago she was in Gilligan's arms and now…now he was in the hospital fighting for his life. She could not bear the thought of losing him. No she was not going to think that. The Skipper was right. Gilligan was a fighter and he would fight through this. He would not leave her. Never. He loved her and he would return. They were going to get married and have their beautiful baby. It would work out. She was going to hold onto that.
