Shepard had a meeting that day with her registration officer. She didn't know what to wear. After looking at her mere three different outfits, she decided on the black jeans and black tanktop. She had her father's tags around her neck and she slipped on her only pair of shoes. She wasn't nervous. She was a powerful biotic. She had killed before, and she was ruthless and angry. Absolutely nothing would stand in her way from getting enlisted.
She sat in the cold steel grey room and straightened her back against the hard metal chair. She folded her hands on her lap.
"Do you think you have what it takes to be an officer in the Alliance, Shepard?"
Her green eyes narrowed and her voice was flat and authoritative, "My father was a marine, Commander Anderson. He kept me in line until the day he died by the hands of a batarian slaver. I want to help humanity succeed. I have not utilized my full potential as a biotic and I need training, but I believe I can be a damn good soldier."
David looked at Shepard and smirked. This kid has guts.
"The training will begin in two days, Shepard. There is a fairly new facility to help biotic children grow. It is located on Thessia, the asari homeworld."
"Thank you, Commander." Shepard shook his hand.
"I have a feeling about you, Shepard. I know you'll serve humanity well."
Shepard smiled and nodded, signed the holographic paperwork and boarded a ship with only one bag. This bag carried the necessities; toothbrush, hairbrush, pack of cigarettes and female toiletries and her three outfits. She didn't need anything else.
Shepard peered out her window from the bottom quarters and was in awe at the beauty of space. Majestic nothingness and it was hers to explore. She only had her pure hate to survive off of. It would fuel her biotics and she would show the other kids how it was done. She had thankfully gained the ten pounds she lost after the attack. She was almost an adult, but she was an orphan. She had absolutely nothing to live for but everything to gain. She had her basic education and her IQ ranked in the top twenty percent across the galaxy. She was intelligent and angry and powerful. She prayed to the only God she believed in as the ship docked.
There were so many other students on this ship. They had done pick-ups at the major bases and delivered them to this station. She couldn't believe how young they were. There were nine year olds cradling their elder siblings as they walked inside. This was an Alliance run facility with asari trainers on the asari planet. There was nothing to be fearful of, right?
Shepard sighed as she followed the other students and pulled out a cigarette. Her hand glowed as she lit it and inhaled slowly.
"Excuse me?" a male voice spoke to her.
She looked to her left and saw a slightly taller, dark haired boy with brown eyes.
"That sign there clearly says no smoking."
"Thanks, I clearly couldn't read that for myself." Shepard smiled and exhaled in his face.
He laughed, "I'm Kaidan. Kaidan Alenko."
Shepard narrowed her eyes, "How old are you?"
"Almost twenty."
Shepard grinned and took another drag, "Excellent." She sighed and inhaled the smoke one last time before flicking it on the ground and stepping on it.
"I'm Shepard."
He looked at her perplexed, "Do you not have a first name?"
She smiled, "What biotic class are you?"
"I handle both tech and biotics. What about you?"
"Pure biotic. I'm an adept." She was annoyed with his face, but decided to keep talking. She pulled up her omni-tool and found her room. She had a roommate. She sighed and flipped her single bag over her shoulder and looked back at Kaidan.
"I should go. Nice talking to you, Alenko."
He paused, "Are you going to join the Alliance?"
Shepard blinked, "Yes."
Kaidan grinned, "I'll see you at basic biotic training with Matriarch Aleia. It is in an hour."
She pulled her omni-tool up, "It's four in the morning."
"The asari start early, Shepard."
At least she had slept an hour on the ship, but why couldn't it wait until tomorrow? She sighed and walked to her room.
Her room was beautiful. It was large, with marble floors and golden curtains with blue accents. The walls were dark navy. There were two queen-sized beds flourished with dark purple comforters and gold pillows.
"Well my roommate is late…maybe I can shower in peace." Shepard sighed and placed her bag on the bed on the far left. That should be a universal sign that I am getting the bed away from the window.
She walked inside the bathroom and locked the door, placing a biotic barrier against it. She didn't know if her roommate was male, asari or female, but she didn't want another…incident to occur. As she turned the hot water on, she sat down on the edge of the bathtub. It was marble, with a large showerhead that sprayed from directly above. It was like getting rained on. She slowly took her clothes off and folded them, then slipped into the shower. She placed a biotic barrier around herself, curious to see if water could penetrate it. It couldn't.
Shepard released the barrier on herself, and sat down in the middle of the shower floor.
She looked up and saw ten different washes. She pulled them all down to the floor using her biotics and stared at them. The labels were in a different language and she opened them all and poured them on her skin. There was no shampoo or conditioner, just fancy bubble bath and blackberry scented body soap. She shrugged and washed her hair with the blackberry soap. The lather was shampoo-like. She stood and rinsed her body well then turned the shower off.
Using her biotics, she slowly opened a drawer and pulled a towel out, then dried herself off.
Shepard released the biotic barrier on the door and stepped into her bedroom, the towel wrapped around her.
She heard footsteps and her body glowed, her hand extended and she turned to the right.
A dark haired girl brown eyed stood there, her arm in a cast. She looked at Shepard and smirked, "Calm down there, new girl."
Shepard relaxed and walked to her bed to grab her bag.
"If you look in the closet, there are specialized outfits for biotic practice."
Shepard blinked and walked to the closet and grabbed the purple jumpsuit. It was long-sleeved and wrapped around the feet. It wasn't revealing but it was tight.
"I'm Rahna."
"Shepard." She tried to smile at Rahna, but found her lips couldn't make a genuine smile and awkwardly walked back into the bathroom. "What time is it?"
"4:50."
Shepard got dressed quickly and pulled her long dark hair into a tight bun and slipped her boots on. She saw the darkness under her eyes and sighed.
She wouldn't be sleeping anytime soon.
"Where is the practice room?"
Rahna smirked, "I'll show you. What's your name?"
"Shepard. Just Shepard."
Rahna nodded, "Alright, Sheppy. We spend the mornings with meditation and then we eat at 6."
Shepard turned the corner into the large, gym-like room. There were only three mats on the floor next to each other and one in the front of the room. She sat on a blue mat on the right and crossed her legs.
A tall, well-dressed asari with bright blue eyes entered the room.
Rahna sat in the middle.
"We are missing one pupil."
On cue, the dark haired twenty year old Shepard met earlier came in.
"You're here too?" She smirked.
"I never got your name," Kaidan replied.
"And you never will, until I smear you across the wall for making me put out my cigarette."
The asari smiled and introduced herself as Matriarch Alyena. "I am going to begin basic meditation by thanking the Goddess Athame. Repeat after me."
Shepard said the thank you as sincerely as she could muster, not wanting to disrespect the kind asari in front of her.
"For the young lady on the right, when we meditate, we channel all of our energy into our palms and extend it over ourselves."
Shepard blinked, "Like a barrier?"
Alyena smiled, "Almost. Let me show you."
The bright flash of biotics echoed in the room and Alyena had her eyes closed. Her biotic energy formed a ball in between her palms, then smothered over her form.
"Start however you can. When were you exposed to element zero?"
"I was fourteen. I'm seventeen now." Shepard extended her palms and formed a small ball then pushed the energy over herself, keeping her eyes opened.
Alyena's voice was soft. "Relax, young one. Close your eyes and focus with your mind."
As soon as Shepard closed her eyes, her energy dissipated. She opened her eyes and saw her instructors' eyes were closed and she was focusing calmly.
Kaidan sat calmly, focusing on the biotic ball between his hands. Rahna formed a barrier and was whispering to herself.
Shepard sighed and tried again.
