Ps - I'm sorry for my bland action scenes; I'm not good with those at all but it's required.
There comes a moment in every young man's life where he is frightened to the point of screaming like a little girl. Gohan, a half human male, is no exception to this moment. Hearing the gruff voice coming directly behind him, he let all of his fear escape through his lips as Videl sweatdropped at the action. Her eyes left the screamer's face to the man who was causing it and raised an eyebrow.
Behind the half-Saiyan was the Saiyan prince, Vegeta, in all his widow-peaked glory. She gave him a once-over, not seeing anything about this man that would cause fear in Gohan. Well, except for his glare.
But it was pointed at her...
Videl huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "You can't just sneak up on people during dinner-time, ya know! What's your problem, you weirdo?"
Vegeta returned the raised eyebrow, but his eyes were full of unknown hatred for the human woman. "I should be asking you the same thing, girl! You're nothing but a distraction for Gohan's training."
The eldest son of Goku of whom Vegeta spoke of was frozen inbetween the two, his scream still ongoing but now faint to his hyped up girl and uncle. His eyes followed whoever was speaking next, looking like a moving portrait from a horror movie.
Videl fumed, stamping her foot hard on the porch of the Son's home. If she had the strength of a Saiyan, it would have caused a giant hole that Chi-Chi would freakabout. "Excuse me!? Gohan only trains with me and Goten. Not some...thug!"
The prince chuckled darkly while the sound of Gohan's screams caused his mother to appear in the doorway with concern, followed by Ox with Goten and Trunks on his shoulders to get the best view. Upon seeing his father, Trunks beamed brightly. "Hiya, Dad! You didn't need to come all the way over here to get me! I was going to fly home after embarrassing the dork."
"Hi son," Vegeta addressed the lavender haired boy, but didn't take his hard eyes off of the black haired girl before him. "I didn't come for you, boy. I came for the dork."
"Stop screaming, Gohan!" Chi-Chi scolded, still confused about what was going on but not forgetting to parent her eldest son. "You're hurting our ears."
Red faced, Gohan stopped immediately and blinked a couple of times, the shock of Vegeta's arrival suddenly fading. He felt panic rise in him noting the tension between the two on both his sides and finally spoke. "U-Uncle Vegeta, I told you I couldn't train today. I have a...date."
Videl's face blushed hard, remembering how Gohan mentioned getting advice from an uncle of his that mysteriously disappeared at the park. She raised a hand, a sign of apology. "Oh, my gosh! I'm so sorry. I didn't know you were Gohan's uncle!"
Vegeta scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Oh, enough with that nonsense! I am not this fool's uncle!" The annoyed Saiyan pointed an accusing finger at Gohan, whose forehead was covered in panic sweat. "No wonder you have gotten so weak over these past seven years. You're too busy stuffing your nose in the books and going on dates. Your father would be so disappointed to see how much you've slacked off."
Gohan opened his mouth to speak, but his mother did it for him. Stomping onto the porch, she jabbed Vegeta's chest with a strong finger. "You rude man! I'll have you know my Gohan has been studying and going to school to support his family and make a good future for himself! His father is extremely proud of him just like his mother is!" The woman's voice grew louder, but the Saiyan before her remained unscathed after so many years of Bulma's scoldings. "Just because your wife has enough money to support the entire country doesn't mean his whole life will be dedicated to fighting! He's just doing this for the tournament and then it's over! AND I BET MY GOKU WILL BEAT YOU WITH JUST A FLICK OF HIS WRIST!"
Vegeta's eye twitched at the pathetic name given to Kakarot, but kept his composure. He chuckled darkly once again, gently swatting away Chi-Chi's finger. He didn't much care for the woman, but if he harmed her, Trunks was a witness and would rat him out to his mother. That was something Vegeta did not want to go through. "For your information, I've been training Gohan myself so I know personally how terrible he's become. As for your clown of a husband, he stands no chance."
Even Videl, who was still working on her ki sensing, could feel Chi-Chi's skyrocketing at an alarming speed. The black haired beauty grabbed onto Gohan's arm, pulling him close to her. She reached up on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear. "This mean guy is the one you've been training with when I'm not around!?"
Gohan scratched the back of his head, looking down at the dainty figure below him. "He's really not that bad of a guy-"
"Leave my property right now, Vegeta!" The mother was raising her fists in the air, a red aura surrounding her due to anger. "You will not disrespect my husband, nor any of my family for that matter!"
The two adults had an intense stare-down while the others watched with high anticipation of what was going to happen next. Taking in the sight, Trunks rolled his eyes and mumbled to Goten. "Everyone turns weird when they become adults. That's why you need to learn how to never grow up, dude."
"Mmhm!" Goten nodded his head, not taking his eyes off his mom. "Kick his ass, Mama!"
Chi-Chi glared up at her son, still on Ox's shoulder, who immediately covered his mouth at the mistake. A realization clicked in her mind like a lightbulb as she looked back at Vegeta. "Oh, so it must have been you teaching my little boy that language!"
The prince smirked at the frustrated woman, quite pleased with himself. He shrugged, looking as cocky as ever. "It's not my fault if Kakarot's spawn wants to follow the steps of a true Saiyan."
Before Chi-Chi could speak, and much to everyone's surprise, Videl stepped in between the two so she was now facing Gohan's uncle. Gohan flailed his arms in the air like a madman. "Videl, what the heck do you think you're doing!? This isn't your fight, this isn't your fight!"
Videl rolled her eyes at the teen. "Oh, come on. If I can take you on during our spars, and this guy has been training you, why can't we have a little one on one?" She winked with high confidence at the Saiyan prince, whose eyes began twitching. These damn earth women always made that happen. "Besides, I'm the daughter of Mr. Satan."
The laughter that erupted from Vegeta could not be contained at the memory of Cell sending Hercule flying across the arena with a simple touch. He wiped his eye and sniffed once before speaking to the brave girl before him. "Thanks for the laugh, little girl. Your father is a weakling as well."
Videl snarled, taking another step forward. "You must be more dumber than you look to believe that!"
"HEY!" Trunks peeped up from Ox's shoulder. "My dad can take you and anyone else in the universe!"
Vegeta smirked at his son's remarks, but his amused gaze remained on Videl. "He's right. But if you really wish to fight, child, I'm not the one to decline."
Videl clenched her hands in a fist, returning the smirk. "Then bring it!"
Before Gohan can open his mouth to speak, the two took flight into the night sky. Trunks looked eagerly at Goten, who was shaking with excitement in the same manner. "Come on! We can't miss this!" The two boys hopped off Ox's shoulders and followed the direction of the two stubborn fighters. Blinking in disbelief, Gohan slapped his forehead.
What have I done!? Videl doesn't know how easy I've been on her!
"Son?" Chi-Chi touched her his shoulder in concern. "What's wrong?"
Gohan gulped, looking at his mother with wide eyes. "Videl thinks she's a lot stronger than what she really is. She's just too darn stubborn..."
Just like you, Ma...
Chi-Chi beamed up at her tall son, crossing her arms over her chest. "Well, I like her! She's got a lot of spunk!"
Point proven.
"You better fly up there, Gohan!" Ox finally spoke up, worry taking over his features. "You need to make sure nothing happens to your special lady!"
By the time Gohan had sensed where the fighters were, he caught them in fighting stances that made him sweat-drop. Vegeta was using his signature one he used against Goku during their first fight, while Videl was striking a traditional boxer's stance with her legs slightly pivoted and arms raised in two fists.
Those darn fools are really taking this seriously!
"Stop shaking so much son! I can't focus on Vegeta and Videl!" Tucked securely in Gohan's arm like an infant child was his beloved mother. She wanted to see the fight too, and her son wasn't the one to say no to her.
If he did, well... Just another lump to add to his collection.
"Sorry, Mom, Sorry!" Gohan blushed slightly. "I just don't want any bloodshed."
The two watched with wide eyes as Videl let out a holler and charged towards Vegeta with her arms extended for a punch. Vegeta smirked, and easily began to dodge every hit from the girl, occasionally grabbing her hand to intimidate her and frustrate her more. Much to Gohan's relief, Vegeta never attempted to hit Videl back. If he did, the poor girl would be out for a couple of days.
"Fight back already!" Videl grunted, repeatedly striking Vegeta with her seemingly powerful kicks that would knock out any human easily. Too bad for her, she was fighting a Saiyan. "Come on!"
Vegeta shook his head, laughing cruelly. "For the sake of your little boyfriend, I want you to live." He was blocking each shot with every word. Gohan rolled his eyes. He knew the real reason for his slightly good behavior was because Trunks was watching his every move. One slip up, and Bulma would kill him.
Videl's face reddened at what he called Gohan, the boy doing the same while the mother in his arms grinned widely. "That's right!" Chi-Chi called out. "She's the perfect wife for my boy!"
"Mooooooom!"
She reached a hand up to slap Gohan's chest, looking up at him momentarily before shifting her gaze back to the weird little fight. "Oh, stop. You know, this reminds me of exactly when your father and I fought at the 23rd World Martial Arts Championship." Her black orbs glistened, her thoughts taking her back to the days she cherished so much.
Gohan looked down at her, smiling slightly at her joy. "I didn't know you two fought at the tournament, Mom."
"Oh, yes!" Chi-Chi beamed. "Didn't I ever tell you? That's where he said he would marry me!" She looked over at her youngest son, resembling the man she loves so much, and then back up at her son. "Ever since that day, he's given me the two greatest gifts I could have ever asked for."
Making sure that Vegeta was still being good and not striking the frustrated Videl back, he brought his full attention back to his mom. He sighed deeply before speaking. "Dad talked to me on my way home tonight."
The strong willed woman's eyes began to swell up with tears. She knew Goku was busy training and experiencing another journey in Other World, but she still became a little heartbroken knowing he never seemed to have the time to speak to her. She just quietly replied. "Oh."
"Hey, don't be sad!" Gohan grinned, holding his mom a little tighter. "He said to make sure I'm taking good care of you. And that he loves you."
A slow smile spread across Chi-Chi's alabaster and aging face as the tears were no longer able to remain in her eyes. She looked up at the stars, wondering if she was looking in the direction he was in. "Oh, Goku..."
"DAD! MOM IS COMING!"
Gohan was about to say more to her when a sudden annoyed yell escaped Vegeta's lips. He snapped his head quickly over to where the two fighters were, and gasped loudly at the blood that was trickling down Vegeta's mouth.
How the hell did she do that...?
"Ha!" Videl pointed a proud finger at the prince. "It looks like you finally let your guard down!" She winked at the lavender-haired boy who was levitating on the side of her with a sneaky smile on his face. "Thanks for the prank, Trunks."
Trunks was about to open his mouth to accept the praise, when his father's snarl stopped him dead in the tracks. He sweat-dropped as his father sent daggers in his direction, and the poor boy thought he was going to die just from the gaze. "I-I'm sorry, Dad! This fight was just so boring; I had to liven it up a bit!" His nervous laughter seemed to bring his father's features to a slightly less angry appearance. Trunks sighed with relief.
Wiping the small amount of blood away from his lip, Vegeta snarled at the brave girl before him. Without saying a word, he stuck his strong hand out at an incredible speed, the force of which sent the much weaker Videl flying to the ground. Not wanting drop his mother or let Videl fall to her death, Gohan tucked his mom under one arm and flew down just in time to catch the beautiful screaming girl in his other arm. The trio landed gently on the the Son's front lawn, where Gohan placed the two women he cared most about on their feet.
"Are you alright, Videl?" Gohan held her by her shoulders, looking her up and down.
"Yeah," she grimaced, but then a weak smile crossed her features as her gaze finally settled on Gohan. "Your uncle is incredible. He didn't even hit me but was powerful enough to make me feel like he did."
Gohan laughed nervously. "Well, yeah, that's my uncle for ya..."
The two young boys landed beside the trio next, looking at Videl in awe. "Wow, Videl!" Goten exclaimed, hopping up and down with his eyes glimmering. "You were incredible!"
The girl blushed, looking down at the cute little boy. "Y-Yeah? You really think so?"
"Oh, yeah!" Trunks gave her a thumbs up. "Nobody fights my dad and survives!"
Gohan rolled his eyes, but remembered how much he defended his father's honor in the same way at Trunks' age. The cycle just keeps on repeating itself. Instead, Gohan just smiled at the boy and agreed. "That's true, Trunks. Videl was perfect."
Is perfect.
The girl's blush continued to grow at Gohan's compliment and touch, but the hold on her ended when Vegeta's voice finally came in the mixture. He landed directly beside Gohan, and placed a hand on his shoulder. The eldest son looked at him in disdain, not sure what he was going to say now.
"I was wrong, Gohan."
What!?
Where is my camcorder!? I need to capture this!
"Wha-?"
"Your earth woman," Vegeta mused, looking at Videl before turning his eyes back to Gohan. "You did a good job training her."
The faces of everyone was set to stunned. None of them, especially Gohan, thought they'd live to see the day where Vegeta, freaking Vegeta, would leave such a strong compliment to anyone besides his own flesh and blood. "V-Vegeta?"
The Saiyan prince scowled, removing his hand from Gohan's shoulder. "But still not good enough. Keep training; it'd be nice to see you both make it far in the tournament before getting destroyed by me."
Ah, good ol' Uncle Vegeta and his backhanded compliments.
The boy just smiled gratefully at the man before him, no longer seeing the evil warrior who came to Earth so many years ago to destroy it with a heart of pure evil. Instead, he saw Uncle Vegeta - a proud Saiyan prince that had a heart that beats just like his own, and contains room for more to live inside it to push him to be the very best he can be. He wasn't perfect, but Gohan couldn't have asked for a better companion during the absence of his father. Well, Videl was a little better. But Vegeta...
Well, he's Vegeta.
And none of them could ask for him to be anything but that.
My prodigal uncle, left home for awhile to behave recklessly only to return to show repentance for what he has done. His heart beats just like mine...
Gohan nodded at him, and smirked. "No worries. You won't make it past my father."
Vegeta scoffed, but a small, small gleam of hope remained his eyes knowing his eternal rival Kakarot would finally be back on Earth, making things normal again. "Whatever. Trunks, let's go."
The boy obediently ran to his father's side, but before they took flight Chi-Chi stood in front of them, the familiar twitch of annoyance forming in Vegeta's eye. "Why don't you stay and help us finish this food? I cooked way too much and I only know of one other man who could eat like my Goku."
Vegeta was about to object, but the smell of Chi-Chi's delectable cooking kissed his nose. Remembering how Bulma burned the roast beef last night, he shuddered and nudged Trunks towards his rival's wife. "Fine," he grumbled under his breath. "Just this once."
Trunks shouted out in happiness, and ran towards the equally giddy Goten as the two best friends ran back inside the small cottage. Pulling Videl close to his side so that her face turned warm immediately, Gohan looked at his mother in confusion. "What's gotten into you?"
Chi-Chi placed her hands on her hips, giving her son a sassy grin. "What? Your father wouldn't want me sending anyone away on an empty stomach. Besides, those two little boys just adore each other." She winked, realizing the closeness between her son and his girl. "And it seems there's a pattern."
Both blushing hard at Chi-Chi's words, Gohan kissed the top of Videl's head before nudging her towards his mother to go join Ox and the two boys. As the girls giggled to each other about some nonsense, Gohan motioned for Vegeta to follow him. "Come on, Vegeta! I bet my mom's already making you a plate!"
The Saiyan prince chuckled, but there was a lightness to it that made Gohan smile. He knew once his father was back that Vegeta wouldn't be so mellowed out, but he was grateful to see the brighter side of such a dark story. "Step aside, boy. A Saiyan needs his sustenance."
Gohan sweat-dropped, standing in the doorway to block a scowling Vegeta from entering. "About that...can you not mention to Videl that we're Saiyans? I don't want her to know that much... At least, not yet. It's not a good time."
Vegeta shrugged. "Sure, whatever. Just move, boy!"
Gohan sidestepped, the brutish alpha male making his way inside the living room and to the kitchen. The laughter of the family filled Gohan's ears, and he closed his eyes for a second to take it all in. Everything was finally falling into place. He got the girl he wanted in the palm of his hands just by being himself. He got closer to a man he never thought would be possible. His father was coming home in a week...
Everything was so perfect...
"What the fuck is this!?" Vegeta's voice called from the table, laughter erupting from everyone with him. Gohan's eyes snapped open to look over at the Saiyan prince who was holding an infamous photo in his hand. "How am I suppose to eat with your bare ass out on display for everyone to see!?"
Chi-Chi slapped Vegeta with her frying pan, scolding him for his language while Videl's tears from her immense laughter fell down her face. Burning red from Vegeta's remarks, Gohan could still feel his heart flutter at the sight of her looking so happy.
My Videl...
I hope you guys have enjoyed this long chapter! Once again, thanks so much! One more chapter left before this comes to a close and I'm so sad! But thank you thank thank you for all the support!
