Chapter Eleven

The Mountain Pass

Aragorn and Theoden rode in the lead as they entered the camp where the Rohirrim were being mustered, Jessica held tightly to her reins as she watched the future King disappear.

"You seem to be deep in thought," Boromir commented bringing the girl out of her own trance, her hand moving through her hair as she glanced at him with a smirk.

"I can't place it. I feel like something is about to happen," she replied as the solider began to shout at the arrival of their King.

"Make way for the King! Make way, the King is here!" a soldier cried out.

"Is this how Gondor will act?" Jessica asked seeing how everyone looked on at Theoden with pure devotion, the same looks being casted to Aragorn.

"My lord!" another cried.

"Hail to you sire!" the previous called.

"Grimbold, how many?" Theoden asked immediately as everyone pulled their horses to a stop, dismounting and continuing on foot.

"I bring 500 men from the Westfold, my lord," Grimbold answered.

"We have 300 more from Fenmarch, Theoden King," another announced.

"Where are the riders from Snowburn?" Theoden questioned.

"They are minor cities around Rohan," Boromir whispered into Jessica's ear noticing her confused gaze.

"None have come," the soldier reported as Jessica turned her back on the gathering, moving away she watched as Aragorn moved around the camp looking at the King in disbelief.

"Six thousand will not be enough to break the lines of Mordor," Aragorn said as Jessica quickly had to sit, all color leaving her face. She felt Boromir kneel before her taking her face in his hands as he looked at her in concern.

"I'm going to die," she whispered.

"Do not be silly," Boromir laughed.

"Stay with the women and children," Legolas said walking up to the pair that could be best put as in a very close embrace. A spark of jealousy shot through Legolas at the sight bringing him the need to be closer.

"You know she is a fighter," Boromir countered as Jessica's head suddenly flew between her knees as she took deep breathes.

"Long steady breaths lad," Gimli commented as he slapped a hand upon her back almost knocking her face first into the earth.

"It'll be ok," Boromir whispered rubbing her head, pulling her close enough to place a kiss on the crown of her skull.

"It is not ok," Legolas hissed. "She is meant to be safe not fighting a man's battle." Jessica instantly sat up turning on the young elf prince.

"Why is ok for Boromir to allow me or support the fact I'm risking my life for you! And everyone else but YOU think it's wrong and stupid! Shut up! Just shut up!" she hissed narrowing her eyes dangerously. She turned leaving, noticing Aragorn she mad her way toward him.

"THe horses are restless and the men are quiet," Legolas said.

"They grow nervous in the shadow of the mountain," Eomer said.

"What is that?" Jessica asked moving to stand next to Aragorn as he starred into a passage way between the mountain rocks.

"That road there? Where does it lead?" Gimli asked.

"It is the road of the Dimholt," Legolas said to them as Aragorn looked to Jessica at his side.

"The door under the mountain," he whispered under his breathing knowing full well she would be the only one to hear him.

"None who venture there ever return. That mountain is evil," Eomer said.

"Aragorn!" Gimli shouted as Jessica and the future King starred in a trance at the door way as if something were calling to them, just as Gimli's hand settled on Jessica she could not stop the high pitched scream at erupted from her mouth as she jumped toward Aragorn. The sudden movement caused Aragorn to jump as well, the two falling to the ground pulling Gimli along.

"Really Jess?" Aragorn said through a laugh.

"Fuck both of you! Gimli scared me!" Jessica defended.

"What were you so focused on?" Aragorn asked not wanting to mention the ghost that he had seen if she had not seen anything.

"I saw nothing but I felt like some energy was trying to pull me toward those rocks," Jessica said motioning toward the hidden door.

"Let's find some food," Gimli announced before patting Jessica's leg.

"You have lost to much weight since you have joined us," Gimli said as if listening to him, Jessica's stomach growled in agreement.

"I guess food would be wonderful," Jessica said allowing the dwarf to help her to her feet, following him. Glancing over her shoulder she watched as Legolas rushed to Aragorn's side talking quickly in elvish. Then out of no where something strong and stable made contact with her face. Moving away from the person she instantly looked at the ground.

"I am so sorry! I should have been looking where I was going," Jessica quickly apologized before looking up to stare into the face of Lord Elrond.

"Oh god..." she whispered backing away further.

"I am not going to lecture you. You sister I see is still able to cause chaos even if she is not here," Elrond said holding up a letter meant for Arwen though she obviously had not received it.

"I took it from her," Jessica said softly.

"I am here to speak with Aragorn. I do come with a word for you," Elrond said as he moved around Jessica.

"What is that?" Jessica asked.

"Listen to your heart not your mind. Galadriel sends her blessings to the happy couple," Elrond said his voice strained as he clearly did not want to speak the words coming from his lips just as Legolas appeared at her side, wrapping his arm around her waist bowing to Elrond.

"Let's get you food," Legolas whispered in her ear.

"Oh my god..." Kristy whispered holding her head as she slowly opened her eyes to find the world moving around her.

"Just put her in the room. Ket careful watch," a voice whispered.

"Where am I?" Kristy croaked her throat dry.

"She is awake," another voice said before the weight holding her let go and she felt onto the hard ground, her skull smashing into the block, going into darkness once more.

"Just where do you think you're off to?" Gimli questioned smoking out of his pipe while Jessica carefully tied her tunic into place.

"No this time. This time you must stay," he said earning two completely determined stare from his companions.

"Hmmm," Gimli hummed as Jessica slid her sword into place.

"Seriously?" she scoffed.

"Have you learnt nothing of the stubbornness of dwarves and...women?" Legolas whispered walking up to the other side of Aragorn leading a horse behind him.

"You might as well accept it. We're going with you laddie," Gimli added causing Aragorn to smile at them fondly.

The small group make for the mountain pass, Boromir glancing at Theoden knowing he should stay with with before looking to Aragorn.

"You should stay. You have to watch Kristy," Jessica said looking at the man, at the mention of her siblings name the man instantly turned his eyes on her pleading for not that task again.

"I will come as quickly s possibly," She whispered before following Aragorn.

"What's happening? Where is he going? I don't understand," A soldier cried.
