A/n: Firstly, I'd like to apologize for not updating much… much, much muchmuchmuch sooner. Secondly, since season three started, it has thrown me for a loop, especially now with the hiatus that has everyone in Swan Queen land screaming, and it throws my story plot of everyone being in storybook for a massive whammy. So… depending on IF they are actually all going to be sent to the enchanted forest or not…. Might just throw a wrench in my plan, who knows what A&E are up too… buggers.
Side note: I have a new way of separating things, rather than going back into edit and putting in those lines, you will now see something like this: 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 in between each break. It just makes it easier for me in the long run.

2 weeks later…
Regina didn't know what to do with her time… She lay in bed awake unknowing on when Emma was supposed to wake up. It killed her to see her in such a vulnerable place. All in due as a result of a silly fight. She was up long before her alarm, sleeping but maybe an hour. She sits up in bed and runs her hands over her face.
Too long… Too long had she watched her lover lay silently in a hospital room, breathing on her own and just remaining still and silent. Emma remained in a chemical induced coma for a week after her attack. The doctors said it was to help with the brain swelling due to the impact of the glass and her repeated attempts to stand up and resulting in falling. After they took her off the chemicals when it was clearly no longer in her system, Emma didn't wake.
The doctors conducted tests, MRI's and more to see if there was any other problem. Scans showed that she had regular brain activity, so she was there, alive and well, she just wasn't waking. It terrified Regina. Would she lose another lover to the hidden depths of darkness?
Regina felt hopeless.

Flashback: about 2 weeks ago…
Regina watched as Ruby and David walked away, following what scent they could to find who attacked Emma. The local paramedics arrived in short time, stabilizing and proceeding to take care of Emma. Regina climbed in the ambulance and held Emma's hand while trying to stay out of the paramedic's way, watching silently as they poked and prodded.
She hoped Emma would be alright. She would use magic to heal her, but she was unsure if it was safe or not, and also she wasn't sure if Emma would appreciate being healed so rapidly.
Following the paramedics as they wheeled Emma into the emergency room, she was halted by a nurse, "Ma'am you need to stay here. We will let you know of her progress, alright?"
"Of course…" Regina felt helpless. She found a nearby waiting room and took a seat, sending a text to Mary Margaret that they had found Emma, worse for the wear of course, but she was at the hospital and to not panic. And that she would send regular updates as she found out.
David caught up with Ruby as she attempted to track the culprit to this assault. He felt angry and hopeless all at the same time. Someone attacked his daughter and he was going to make sure they spend a very long, long night in jail.
"David… I'm losing it…" Ruby stated, standing and attempting to regain the scent.
"Seriously? That's not good. We need to find out who did this." David replied.
"I know, I want to find him as much as you do."
"Him?" David asked.
"Yeah him, I can tell that much, but I can't tell the other bit. I lost it back at the entrance to the diner. There was too much other alcoholic smells to differentiate who was who."
"Alright, let's head back to the Rabbit Hole and see if anyone saw anything." David said, turning and marching back towards the bar.

Emma's subconscious:
Darkness is what she saw… there was ground; otherwise she couldn't walk in the area. There was a light nearby, but she couldn't reach it. She heard Regina's voice sometimes, and tried to speak to her, yelling for her help. She heard Henry occasionally, and her mother and father, Ruby too.
How long had she been in this darkness, she mused. She tried to remember what happened. All she could remember was that she fought with Regina and tried to drink away her pain and fear. She couldn't remember anything past that.
What felt like centuries ago, due to this time in whatever limbo she was stuck in, she dreamt of her past, and the pain it caused. Praying that by some god given grace, she would be saved from the dreams that haunted her. Her praise was short lived once she realized that now she was stuck in this darkness. She tried to focus, will her way back into Regina's welcoming and loving embrace.
She sat, and stared at the light that was near her. Praying, willing it to get closer and pull her back into the real world. She saw a flicker, and then took a deep breath and focused. She was going to get out of this place, and then apologize to Regina, profoundly.

Henry ran… that's all he could do. To clear his mind and relax from all this stress, his mother is in the hospital and his mom is depressed. His grandparents are searching for her attacker and being overbearing to his wellbeing. He's practically grown, almost 16, he needs his space.
He ran until his legs burned. The wood trail gave a great challenge. Obstacles and holes that required all his focus and attention, he came to a clearing and slowed to a stop, allowing himself a chance to breath. He noticed where he was… The Wishing Well… He walked over and leaned against the well, and thought of all the memories that he had here, from saving Emma and Mary Margaret from a trap to trying to destroy magic.
He stood admiring the plaque that signified what the well was to the cursed Storybrook's legend that the waters returned something to you that was once lost. Digging into his pocket, he grabbed a coin, whispered a wish, and dropped it into the waters. Praying that it could do as it said and return something that was once lost as he turned and jogged back towards home.

Ruby stood at the entrance to the alley behind her favorite haunt, though she did little haunting in the past few weeks. The Rabbit hole was a place for her to relax after a night of working at the diner and it gave her a chance to see Belle more often. Now she stood behind it trying to get one whiff of whoever was back here with Emma the night her best friend was attacked.
It truly baffled her. But whoever did it certainly knew that returning to the bar was going to assertively make her lose track of them. She stood there a while, staring at the remnants of the specks of Emma's blood and whomever else's blood drips on the nearby concrete trying to figure out who attacked her…
Their blood…
Ruby just had an epiphany, snapping herself out of her daze… Emma smashed her cell phone against someone's head… they had to have some kind of bruise or cut from the retaliation and seen a doctor or someone for it. She walked with a purpose towards the nearby Sherriff's station to find David and tell him of her discovery.

Regina sat at her grand piano, and played a soft melody that comforted her in times of her grief. The soft tune playing softly from the strings to the soundboard and echoing across the silent room and into the rest of the mansion
A waltz when she walks in the room
She pulls back the hair from her face
She turns to the window to sway in the moonlight
Even her shadow has grace
She closed her eyes, allowing the song to overtake her, imagining the days in a ball gown on a tile floor, being held close by a stranger masked in the masquerade.

She dreamt of Emma, holding her, dancing with her to the soft melody, holding her closely. The tune she knew well as she hummed the song along with the tune.
A waltz for the chance I should take
But how will I know where to start?

Her fingers finding the keys effortlessly as it were muscle memory. A small tear dripped from her closed eyes, wishing she had her lovers embrace. When Emma woke, she swore she would apologize for everything that happened.

She thought back to everything that brought them together, the love letters that she still held close each day. She smiled at how she trusted so effortlessly in the woman who took over her world just a mere few years ago.

Regina played the last notes slowly, as in hope that the tune wouldn't end so quickly. When it was all said and done, and when Emma woke, she was going to teach her how to waltz, and she was going to play this song for her, just so she knew how much she appreciated her. She smiled to herself slightly, and then her cell phone's sharp shrill pulled her from her thoughts.
"Mayor Mills."
"Regina, its David, I need you to come down to the Sherriff's station, we think we found something."
"About Emma's attack?" Regina questioned.
"We think so."
"I'll be there shortly." Regina curtly finished while she gathered her coat and purse and drove to the Sherriff's station. Hoping that we could solve one problem with Emma's attack and charge whomever it was that was responsible for such wrongdoing.

David just hung up the phone with his wife, when Regina walked in.
"What did you find?" Regina asked. She certainly didn't waste time. David mused as he stood.
"Ruby was walking by the alley when something came across her mind. Ruby… care to elaborate?" David opened the floor to her.
"Remember how we noticed Emma's phone was smashed to bits?" Ruby prompted.
"Yes… what does her phone have to do with this?" Regina asked.
"She hit her attacker with it. Whoever did whatever to her, she hit them with her phone, and rather forcefully. With so much force it probably caused a cut and some pretty nasty bruising." Ruby elaborated. "There were two different blood stains on the concrete. One was Emma; the other was from whoever attacked her. It's obvious by the amount of blood in each stain."
Regina looked like they had missed the absolutely most important thing of all. "Which means, they had to seek medical attention?"
"Right, which also means, there is a record of it." Ruby smiled.
"We now can find out who attacked Emma." David smiled.
"Well what are you waiting for?" Regina asked.
"A warrant, for hospital records." David spoke. "Patient privilege, we can't receive any records without it."
"Well, push whoever to get it signed… Hold on a moment." Regina was interrupted by her phone ringing. "Mayor Mills…. Right, thank you. I'll be over in a moment." She hung up her phone. "There has been a change in Emma's vitals. They think she is waking up." She finished as she marched out the door into her waiting Benz, leaving David and Ruby to scramble after her.

Regina wasn't much of a patient woman as she slid out of her Benz, shooting off a message to Henry to let him know that Emma was waking up and to meet her at the hospital. She marched quickly into the hospital and straight to Emma's room to find Dr. Whale standing nearby monitoring her vitals.
"Madam Mayor, glad to see you." Whale offered as she walked into the room.
"Cut the crap, I thought she was waking up?" Regina prompted.
"There was a change in her vitals, she is trying too. It will probably help her if you or her family is here talking to her and trying to encourage her to wake up." Whale explained. "Her subconscious should respond in turn and help her continue to pull out of her sleep. If, and when she wakes, she will have a very dry sore throat. There is a bottle of water with a straw for her to drink. Make sure she only takes a few small sips, otherwise she could overwhelm her system."
"Alright, I can manage that." Regina took a seat next to Emma and held her hand.
"Remember, talking helps." Dr. Whale said, as he smiled slightly and took his leave of the room.
"Mom?" Henry gently offered as he started to come into the hospital room.
"Hey Henry, come on in."
"Is she awake yet?"
"No, not yet, but it's a good thing you are here, because she needs all the encouragement she can get to wake up. Dr. Whale said that we should talk to her and let her know we are here and that we are ready for her to wake up."
"How are we supposed to do that?" He asked.
"I honestly have no idea, but let's each just talk to her and see how she might respond?" Regina offered.
"Alright… Emma… Mom… I love you, please, wake up. I want you to come home with us. We miss you and it sucks not having you around." Henry spoke to Emma's sleeping form.
"Emma, baby, please. I miss you so much and I love you and I forgive you for the fight, please, just please come back to me. I can't bear it much longer without you." Regina spoke.
There was a slight flicker of movement in Emma's closed eyes, and the heart rate monitor started to beep a little faster.
"Emma, please, whatever you are doing to come back, it is working, you can do it, just try a little harder." Regina spoke.
Dr. Whale came back into the room. After he took a moment to look at the monitor and take a reading. "Her vitals keep spiking, Keep talking to her, she should be awake soon, it's a good sign that her brain is becoming active and pulling out of a sleep state.
"Come on Mom, you can do this. Just a bit more and you'll be home." Henry spoke.
"Emma?!" Regina spoke as she watched the sleeping figure's eyes shoot open and look about the room wildly.
