Chapter 9: A Night To Remember

Hex sat desolately on the cellar floor, the open sorcery book next to her. She had tried over twenty new spells, and was also relieved at how kind the beast was to her. But still, she was beginning to miss her father, and wondered if he worried for her. Would he attempt to get her back, thinking that the Beast was holding her captive? Hex flipped through the book. I wonder… She spotted a particular spell that seemed to be standing out. Strangling spell?! Now wonder it stood out. Hex stared. Who would want a spell like this? To strangle a person to death… "HEX!" Hex shut the book just as Flashwing hopped down the stairs. "Good news! The beast asks you to a dance at 8p.m!" Hex couldn't believe her ears. "DANCE?!" "Just as friends, though. Nothing weird." Flashwing added hastily. Hex slowly got up, clutching the sorcery book. "Friends? Okay…" To her surprise, she felt a hint of disappointment. "So…what are you here for-?" "To prepare you, of course!" The teacup exclaimed, hopping. "Can't have you dancing in a usual lack blouse and skirt, I remember I made a few outfits in the guest room somewhere. Let's go get them!" Hex followed Flashwing as she hopped up the stairs. Just as friends, though. Nothing weird. Flashwing's earlier words echoed in her mind. Why do I feel so…dismayed?

"You okay there, Beast?" Whirlwind called. "Yeah, I'm fine!" The beast's grumpy voice replied from behind the shower curtain. "Just drying myself off." "Okayyy, I'll find a good outfit." Whirlwind hopped over to the open drawer and using her plastic hairdryer head, hoisted a pile of clothes and carried it to where the beast was hidden behind the shower curtain. "Here ya go." The beast's paw quickly shot out from behind the curtain and grabbed the pile of clothes. As it whisked back into the curtain, Whirlwind stifled a snicker. This is gonna be a night to remember! A while later, the grumpy beast stepped out. He was wearing a black shirt and jeans, with a cool black jacket. "Why am I wearing everything BLACK?!" He snapped. Whirlwind looked away in embarrassment. "Hey, it fits with your fur, right?" He groaned. "GAH. FINE!"

"Ice wall!" Chill called out, making another line of ice blocks appear. Flameslinger grinned. "I LOVE THIS!" He tilted his head and hands and with a huge burst of energy, set all ice blocks ablaze. In ten seconds, the ice blocks all turned into water. "Chill! The detergent!" Flameslinger called. The snow globe hit over a small pail of detergent and tipped it into the puddles of water. "Okay, now what?" She asked, stepping back. "It's too slippery for us to walk on." Flameslinger snuffed out the flames on his hands and rubbed them together. "Now I always have been dying to do this." He said. He turned and quickly scrambled off into the storeroom. "Flame?" Chill said. Minutes later, the candlestick emerged, pushing two sponges. "Three times each." He instructed. "Time to make this a night to remember." He hopped onto one sponge and took off. "Whoo hoo!"

Bash stared into the shelf lined with CDs. "Found any waltz CDs yet?" He called. Seconds later, Camo's watering spout emerged from between two CDs. "Nope, just country, jazz, rock and pop!" He reported. Bash groaned. If they couldn't find a waltz, he would embarrass himself in front of Flashwing. Unless… "Hey, Camo! I think I got an idea!" Camo pulled himself out of the shelf and stared at him. "Yes?" Bash tilted over and whispered something to him. Camo grinned. "Now that sounds like a plan! Whirlwind will be so impressed by us!" Bash stared. "Whirlwind?" Camo blinked. "I meant Flashwing will be impressed of you. Sorry. But anyway…" "This will be a NIGHT TO REMEMBER!" grinned Bash. "Y-yeah." Camo stuttered in embarrassment.

Meanwhile, Hex was scrutinizing dress after dress. "No. No. No. No." Hex said, shaking her head. Flashwing sighed. "Hex, you have to wear something. Let's just start with your favourite colours. So?" "They're black and dark blue." Hex muttered reluctantly. No wonder she didn't like any of those dresses. There was no hint of black in any of them. "Black and dark blue… oh yes! There is one dress." Flashwing hopped onto the floor. "I kept it in the bottom drawer." Hex pulled out the black dress from the drawer. It was jet black, with a black gem at the side of the dark blue sash on the waistline. "Whoa." Hex gasped. "Put it on! Put it on!" Flashwing chanted, bouncing up and down. "Okay…" Hex disappeared into the bathroom. Moments later, she appeared. "Now this is the one!" Flashwing squealed excitedly, staring. It fit perfectly on the Undead Elf, with the hem only stopping at her knees. "Take these too." The gem teacup pushed forward a box. It had a pair of matching black heels inside. "Thanks, Flashwing." She said. Flashwing hopped off as Hex was fitting her feet into the heels. This is going to be a night to remember!

Hex and the beast, both ready. Soundtracks, ready. Ballroom, almost ready. Operation Dance was underway!
