Presentation Day Ch.11
Hey everyone. For those who followed my story OMC (One More Chance), I just updated a chapter. Please review it if you guys would be so kind, same with this one please Dx. For those who have been waiting for Seto and Riley's love story to actually begin, I would safely say chapter 6. Sorry, I didn't want a super instant love story. At this point, they both don't even realize they have feelings for each other all and they have a mutual respect for each other at this point.
I'm not good in terms on how business people talk as well as budgeting goes in terms of production. I'm gonna throw some random numbers out there and I tried my best in terms of the business lingo. DX
Fun fact: I've been playing persona 5 and I love it so far.
FF Presentation Day
Riley and Seto didn't talk much after that night other than stuff related to the presentation. Both stayed up late the past two days preparing for the presentation that was going to occur today.
Riley didn't see her mother off. She was angry still at her. The only thing that distracted her was the project. When she wasn't working, the event kept replaying itself, which hurt her chest deeply, but she refused to cry about it again. She already cried in front of Seto Kaiba more than enough already in her opinion.
Riley put on a pair of black slacks, a blue blouse, a black blazer, wore a gold necklace, put on her favorite white watch, and put on a pair of white heels. She put on light makeup to at least look a little more presentable and walked out. She put her hair in a half up half down style.
After talking to her uncle, he let her stay at his place temporarily. Being in the house she shared with her mother barely for two weeks made Riley angry. She almost trashed the place. If it wasn't for her uncle holding her back, she would have set the whole place on fire.
"Rei, do you have everything?" Yunji looked at his niece.
"Wow, I'd never thought I'd see you look professional onee-san, although I think a dress would've been much simpler don't you think?" A blonde haired girl wearing a pink Lolita style looking dress with a lollipop in her mouth came downstairs.
"I would rather wear this than wear a dress Ayleanne." Riley narrowed her eyes.
"Yes uncle, I have everything I need for today." Riley smiled at her uncle and cousin.
"You look so pretty in them, you know that? It's such a shame you hate them." She shook her head with her hands open palm up in a dramatic fashion. Riley just had a blank, unreadable expression on her face. "Are you ok Rei?" Ayleanne looked up at her cousin concerned.
"Yes, I'm alright." Riley smiled. "I'm okay, don't worry about me ok." Riley grabbed the three manila folders and a USB and walked out the door.
"Daddy, I think Rei-onee-san is still shaken up with the whole argument she had with auntie." Ayleanne stared a bit sadly at the door that Riley just walked out of.
"Nothing we can do about it pumpkin. I worry for that girl sometimes." Yunji shook his head. "Ayleanne, this is also a problem between the two of them, there's nothing we can do except be there for her."
Kaiba Corp.
Riley took a deep breath as she entered the glass doors. She really wasn't looking forward to today. Another thing she hated other than feeling weak was giving presentations.
"Good morning Ms. Castaneto." Chinatsu greeted the brunette. "You're looking quite lovely this morning."
"Thank you Chinatsu san, you look good as well." Riley smiled back.
"Good luck today on the presentation today ma'am." Another associate told her as she walked by to go towards the elevator.
She smiled and nodded. She swiped her access card and went up to the top floor. The office that was her mother's became hers. She took a deep breath, walked in, and briefly started looking over the slideshow that her and Seto worked on, looking at the notes she put for herself to remember to say when the time came. The presentation would be at 10:30 AM and it was 9:30. She had an hour to spare to make sure the presentation would go smoothly.
A knock on her door made her jump from her seat.
"Who is it?" Riley called out.
The person who came in was none other than of course, Seto Kaiba himself.
"What pleasure do I owe you this fine morning?" Riley said sarcastically.
"Ha ha, very funny Castaneto." Seto replied in the same sarcastic tone. "You better not fuck this up for me today. This project's success rides on how you present this today." Seto gave Riley an icy look.
"No guarantees." She smirked.
"This is no time for jokes Castaneto." Kaiba put his hands on her desk. "I mean it." He glared at her.
"Yeah yeah, lighten up will you." She motioned for him to give her some space. "Now if you don't mind leaving me alone until this damn presentation of yours so I can try to do a good job." She gave him a fake sarcastic smile.
"Whatever, you got an hour." Seto walked out of her office.
Once Seto left, Riley put her head down on the desk.
'I am not ready for this.' She groaned inwardly. 'I really don't want to do this, but what choice do I have? When I signed that dotted line, I pretty much signed my life away. You know what they say right, fake it till you make it. Fuck it, I'm just gonna wing this shit.'
As each minute ticked by, the more her heart started racing. She started fidgeting as she kept looking over the presentation slides. She honestly wished she was presenting the more engineering side of it rather than from the marketing prospective.
Mokuba came waltzing in making Riley jump out of her seat.
"So, you ready today Rei?" Mokuba sat in front of Riley's desk.
"Honestly Mokuba, I don't know." She groaned. "I hate doing any form of public speaking."
"Just imagine no one's in the room." Mokuba replied as if it was no big deal.
"Easy for you to say." Rei grumbled. "I don't know I'm just gonna wing it."
Mokuba looked at her in shock. "You're just going into this blind? Didn't you and Seto work on this presentation for the last two days in his study?"
"Yes, but it's quite different when you got a whole panel of people looking at you, you know?"
"I think you're over thinking this. Just go over the notes you put on your slides and just base your presentation on that."
"How did you know about my notes?" Riley asked surprised.
"I'm not Seto's younger brother for nothing. Whatever my brother knows, I know as well. I'm his second pair of eyes so to speak or what you Americans say "right hand man."
'This kid is smarter than he looks. I better watch my back.'
"Well your do or die moment is in ten minutes. I suggest you head on over and prepare what you need to ensure everything runs smoothly." Mokuba stood up. "I'll see you later."
Riley just groaned as she grabbed all the documents and USB and proceeded to the meeting room.
Presentation Room
Riley saw that Seto was already sitting down at the head chair.
"You're here early." Riley said slowly.
"Of course, I have to make sure that all the technical equipment we need for this presentation today is functional. Hand me the USB." Riley nodded and Seto hooked it up to his laptop that was also linked to the projector. "Everything seems to be in order. I have a few investors that will be here and my chief engineers will oversee this today as well as myself. No pressure."
"Yeah, sure." Riley tried to mask her nervousness by smiling but that didn't really work.
"Castaneto." Seto saw she was quite nervous. "I already saw your capabilities of compiling a report and you went above and beyond my expectations. If you can do that, I'm pretty sure you can present this."
Riley just nodded and genuinely smiled.
"Thank you."
"My guests will be here any minute. Do you need anything?"
"A laser pointer would be great." Riley replied. Seto nodded and tossed the one he had in his pocket.
True to his word, a group of five men entered the room. They all shook Seto's hand and took their seats next to the CEO. Seto stood up and looked at everyone in the room.
"Gentlemen as you know, I have been working a new duel disk system. Today, I have my proposal on how this could be done. My associate, Ms. Castaneto will go over the basic design, cost, and marketing strategy. Ms. Castaneto, if you would please." Seto said in a businesslike manner.
Riley nodded and she took a deep breath.
"Good morning a gentleman, my name is Riley Castaneto and just as Mr. Kaiba said, this presentation will be about Kaiba Corporation's new duel disk system." Riley gave Seto a look to go to the next slide.
"Last year, Kaiba Corp made a big breakthrough in integrating the game of duel monsters with the state of art holographic technology." The men were taking down notes, which made Riley a little nervous but she still proceeded to get over her nervousness. "Since then, the biggest dueling tournaments have been conducted in the biggest arenas worldwide, but what if gentlemen, there was a way to bring dueling from the arena to anywhere in the world?" This piqued the men's interests. "From the work done by Mr. Kaiba and the engineering team, they came up with this portable duel disk design that not only will make that a reality, but will make dueling possible at the palm of your hands. This new duel disk fits on the wrist as shown." She used the laser to point where it would fit on the wrist. "In it lies a sensor that activates once the user puts in on, which then triggers the spring devices to push out both components of the duel disk and connects them together thus activating the holographic sensors attached at the edges of the duel disk." The animation in the background demonstrated how the technology would work. "The cost of production for one unit is approximately going to cost 2500 yen or by American currency, $25 due to the quality of the materials that will be used to build the duel disk. Wholesale price that we've decided on would be $125, with each unit selling for $75, which yields a 33% profit. How we would promote this new duel disk would be to hold a duel monsters tournament to show it off. If it proves successful, once the tournament is over, we will start getting these new duel disks into mass production before the end of the year and into major retailers at the beginning of the new year. Any questions gentlemen?"
"Assuming we decide to invest in this new project of yours Mr. Kaiba, how soon can we expect to see a prototype of this duel disk?" a man by the name of Mr. Tanaka asked.
"Mr. Tanaka, we expect a prototype to be available in 2-3 weeks. After that, we will start testing immediately to make sure the duel disk is functional. Once it passes all the tests, production will start immediately." Seto replied.
"In regards to your duel monsters tournament Mr. Kaiba, will everyone be allowed to participate or only registered duelists?" another investor by the name of Yamada asked.
"Mr. Yamada, I will make enough duel disks for every citizen here in Domino city that is registered in the duelist registry."
"How long will this tournament last Mr. Kaiba?" Tanaka asked.
"Approximately a week and half to two weeks."
"This looks promising Mr. Kaiba." Yamada nodded in approval. "Tanaka, myself, and Honda will be looking forward to see the prototype before testing is conducted. Yamada looked at the chief engineers. "Your team better not disappoint."
The two engineers just bowed.
"Well, with no further questions, thank you for your time Mr. Kaiba, my associates and I will be on our way." Yamada stood up as well as the other four at the table.
Seto shook every single of the investors' hands and looked at his chief engineers with a stern look. They both knew that their boss wanted them to deliver a good quality project and just bowed and left. The only people left in the room were just Riley and her boss. Riley let out a sigh of relief.
"You did a good job." Seto said to Riley facing her. "You winged it didn't you." Seto gave her a stern look.
Riley did but she just gave a sly smile. "Of course not."
"Well whatever you did, good job. I told you, you were capable of doing this presentation."
"Never thought I would hear you ever say I would do a good job considering all the other times you considered my work mediocre." Riley laughed sarcastically. "So, what now? I can go home right? I mean I did the presentation like you asked."
"Go home?" Seto gave her a 'are you out of your mind' look. "There's always work to be done here Castaneto."
"Figures, I should have seen that one coming." Riley grumbled.
"Since you did well today, I'll give you your lunch break and we can discuss your responsibilities as my assistant and how your work schedule will work in regards to when school starts after lunch is over."
"Why not discuss it over lunch?" Mokuba walked in casually.
"Where the hell you come from?" Riley asked surprised.
"I was working on my laptop debugging the software that would be installed in the new duel disk prototype obviously."
"Smart." Riley couldn't say anything else.
"Of course, it runs in the family." Seto replied smugly.
"Ha ha." Riley said sarcastically. "I'm cool going to lunch if you're treating." Riley smiled sheepishly.
"Hey I already treated you out once. You pay for it."
"You didn't pay me yet so you pay." Riley said in a sing song voice.
"No way Castaneto." Seto and Riley were locked in a glaring match.
"Some things never change." Mokuba shook his head. "I'm leaving, bye you two." Mokuba waved and ran out the room.
"Hey!" both said in unison and chased after the raven haired boy.
Limo
"What are you in the mood for today Mokuba?" Seto crossed his arms.
"I want some of Rei's homemade cooking."
"Eh, don't we have to go back soon though?"
"Hey Rei, me and Seto own the company, so we can literally do whatever we want."
"Mokuba, just because you guys own the company doesn't mean I can do whatever I please too you know? I'm still on the clock."
"Castaneto's right you know." Seto finally agreed with Riley on something. "We'll have that sandwich place that we like for today. If Ms. Castaneto does well in the upcoming weeks, I'll be sure that she makes you a homemade lunch."
"Hey! There you go making decisions again!" Riley crossed her arms. "I'm not a freaking cook; I'm an assistant for crying out loud!"
"I'm still your boss if you haven't forgotten." Seto gave Rilye a serious look. "What I say goes, so better make that homemade lunch when I tell you otherwise you'll be working overtime the whole damn week."
"You may have won this round, but this isn't over! I, Riley Castaneto, never will surrender to the likes of you!"
"We'll see about that." Seto gave her a challenging look. "Give me your best shot."
'I never back down from a challenge.' Riley was very determined. 'I'll show him what I'm really made of!"
Both didn't really know what they were challenging each other to, but it's a game they both would win and lose at the same time.
