Chapter 11

Young, tired eyes began to stir open. Blinking a bit and moaning, the eyes opened only to be greeted by darkness. The youth tried moving but found ropes keeping the youth down.

"W-where am I?" questioned Yugi Mutou. He struggled and pulled on his restraints but to no avail.

"Finally you're up." Rang a voice in the darkness. Yugi felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up as he felt a hand caress his cheek. It slowly moved to his eyes and removed the item blocking Yugi's vision.

Yugi shut his eyes from the light and groaned irritably. Opening one eye slightly, he saw a cloaked man with a golden eye on his hood.

"Who are you?! And what do you want from me?!" He yelled. The man chuckled maniacally and pulled out a golden rod.

"All your questions shall be answered little Yugi." The man placed a hand on Yugi's head and moved the rod in front of Yugi's eyes. It glowed bright as Yugi screamed, but little did he know, there was someone else there… watching.

Yugi screamed in agony as his world became dark and clouded. "SOMEONE HELP ME!"

In the Mutou house,

Feeling a surge of pain in her heart, Anzu's eyes shot open as she sat up quickly to see as Joey and Tristan ran into the room.

"Anzu did you feel that!?" yelled Joey. Anzu, teary eyed, nodded.

"We have to tell Atem!" Tristan yelled. They all agreed and ran downstairs to see Atem in the most pain. He was leaning on the wall, breathing heavily, with something glowing on him too. Looking to the side, they saw a woman, standing next to Atem, trying to calm him down.

Once Anzu saw Atem like that, she rushed over to him. "Atem!" The woman turned and saw a group of three at the stairs while the girl came running. "Atem," Anzu hugged him. "Please calm down. We all felt that." Instead of getting a response, the woman pulled Anzu away.

"Please, you mustn't interrupt." Anzu blinked in confusion.

"What are you talking about?! He's in pain, can't you see that?!" The woman was about to talk, but then looked at Anzu's neck.

"My apologies." She bowed. "But you must let him do this." Anzu raised a brow.

"Do what?" Ishizu looked up.

"This…" Atem began screaming and they all turned to him, shocked. His puzzle glowed intensely and a few seconds later, two creatures came out of it. They took the form of The Dark Magician and The Dark Magician Girl. Atem panted and fell down.

"Why were they too hard to summon…?" he mumbled. When Atem looked up he saw Anzu, Joey, and Tristan. "What are you guys doing up?" Anzu went over and kneeled next to him.

"Well, we felt something wrong and… we came downstairs to tell you and…" Atem nodded and stood with the aid of Anzu.

"Yeah Atem, did ya feel it too?" Joey asked.

"Yes, that's why these two are needed ri-ah-ight now…" Atem started breathing heavily again.

"Pharaoh…" Atem put his hand up.

"I'm fine… just a little tired is all." Atem regained his composure and looked at his two Magicians. "I have a job for you Dark Magician Girl." She flew down and hugged Atem.

"Oh don't you worry! I'll do my best Pharaoh!" Atem's face went pale as he was being chocked.

"Hey, he can't breathe!" Anzu yelled. The Dark Magician pulled her away from Atem.

"My Pharaoh, are you sure you want her to go alone?" Girl pouted.

"Don't worry, all she has to do is fine the owner of this Ba and locate him." Atem held up Yugi's deck and she took it.

"Hmm… ok!" Dark Magician Girl flew off without a second thought. Dark Magician sighed and shook his head.

"Now for you old friend," He looked at Atem. "I need you to help me with…" he saw the others. "…something." Ishizu stepped in.

"My Pharaoh, with all due respect, you shouldn't hide anything from them at this point." Joey and Tristan walked until one was at one side of Atem and the other was at Atem's other side.

"Yeah "Pharaoh", how 'bout some answers!"

"That's right!" Atem felt a little squeamish.

"Ehehe, o-ok, ok. Well…"

Ten minutes later…

Joey and Tristan stood there, wide-eyed.

"Wow…" they said.

"Yeah… sorry for keeping quiet guys…" He looked up and noticed the cheeky grins on their faces. "What?" Joey poked him.

"So… how did Anzu find out first then Atem hmmm?" Joey asked. Atem cringed and blushed, as did Anzu.

"And, why does she have an item Atem? Hmm? Worried for her are we?" Tristan said. Atem was sweating nervously and kept his eyes covered by his bangs. Dark Magician was watching and found this a little laughable, but he knew better.

"Dark…" Atem mumbled. He blinked and raised his wand. "Magic…" Atem raised his head and pointed to the door as it flew open. "Attack!" Dark Magician fired on Atem's command and hit some intruders.

"Atem!" Dark and Atem both face palmed and went to the door, only to see two familiar faces.

"Ah crap, Kaiba I told you to try to suppress your hostile Ba! It's not hard to confuse you with an enemy like that!" The gang followed Atem in the living room and saw Seto Kaiba with his little brother Mokuba Kaiba.

Once Kaiba got up, he looked back and saw them.

"Ugh, Atem why are hanging around the dweebs." Joey pounced and grabbed him by the shirt.

"Atem, why do you know this rich son of a bitch!" Kaiba and Joey glared at each other until Atem broke them up.

"That's enough, both of you! Joey, Kaiba is my cousin." Joey was dumbfounded. "

Kaiba, Yugi introduced me to his friends here, so now they are my friends." Atem looked over at them and found himself not taking his eyes off Anzu. Kaiba saw this and smirked.

"Are you sure they are all just friends?" Atem cringed and Joey growled.

"What's that supposed to mean rich boy!"

Anzu saw the boys arguing but couldn't help but notice a little boy standing behind Kaiba. She walked over, ignoring the others.

"Hi." she said politely. "I'm Anzu, you must be Mokuba right?" He nodded.

"So Atem, I heard the old Pharaoh wants his place back." Kaiba said coyly. Atem groaned.

"No, but I haven't heard from him in a while." He said while holding the puzzle. "Atemu, you there?" They all stared until they saw the puzzle go out of control. "Whoa!"

"Atem, shut that thing off or something!" yelled Kaiba as he grabbed Mokuba.

"AAAAAAHHHHH!"

"Atem!" everyone yelled!

The Dark Magician made no hesitation and used his magic to contain the puzzle. He had to use the highest spell he knew, but that wasn't even enough. Atem saw him struggle and ran to get his card. Once he did, Atem put most of his power to aid his monster. Running back, he saw Dark Magician in control.

"Good…" Once Dark Magician had contained the puzzle, Atem placed it back around his neck. "Atemu, I know you didn't do that." Atem stared worriedly at the puzzle and sighed. Sure, Atemu annoyed the living hell out of him, but deep down Atem knows he considers that annoying ass Pharaoh as a friend.

Anzu watched on and placed her hand to her heart. But then felt a jolt. "Agh!" Anzu fell to her knees and Atem was the first one to see and be at her side.

"Anzu, what's wrong?!" She breathed heavily as tears began to fall from her eyes.

"S-something's wrong… with Yugi!" Anzu looked up at Atem and he went wide eyed. Feeling that there was no more he could do, he hugged her, and whispered sweet words in her ear.

"We'll find him, I promise." Little did they know, Atem had been feeling these jolts since Yugi had been captured, so he is well aware of how they feel. "I'll get you back Yugi, I swear my life on it." Letting go of her, Atem's eyes seemed different to Anzu. There was a fire in them now. A fire that one would only see in a proud warrior of some sort. But then again, he is a Pharaoh and the descendant of one. But, she still could not help but gawk at his eyes. They may look different than Yugi's, but, this new passion in them, it was almost intoxicating.

"They're even different from when I first saw them…" Anzu mumbled to herself. That was when a smirk crossed his face and he turned to the window just in time to see the Dark Magician Girl return.

"Master Atem…" she said while avoiding eye contact. Atem did not like her tone, yet he showed no fear. But Anzu could almost feel him trembling… but the strangest part was that that new spark in his eyes didn't dissipate. "There's… been an incident with this person's ba."

"What do you mean?" The Dark Magician intervened.

"She means that this person either died…" Everyone went wide eyed. "Or, their ba has… changed." Atem flabbergasted.

"How is that even possible?! A ba does not just change!" Both magicians sighed.

"In the right conditions it can. You of all people will learn master…" Before Atem could say another word, both magicians left and a note fell. Picking it up, Atem read it.

Look to your roots, then you will find what you are looking for master.

"My roots…?" he whispered. "What could this mean…?" Anzu frowned and stepped backwards before reaching the stairs.

"Where your heart is…" she thought as she walked upstairs to get more sleep. As she walked, she didn't realize Kaiba was watching her. Looking back at his cousin, Kaiba noticed Atem's expression. It looked as if he had just heard shocking news. Eyes wide, crumpling the paper in his fist, and his gritting teeth.

"Did he… hear her…?" Kaiba thought. Atem tossed the paper out and put his jacket on. "Atem, where are you going?" The others saw him and tried to stop him from going anywhere.

"Atem, stop!" yelled Joey. Atem darted towards the door, but Tristan was in his way. Hesitantly, Atem used some shadow magic and knocked all those that were near him, out. He swiftly made his exit into the dark and windy night. Using his magic, he created a cloak to wear. It was black, covering his whole body, and went on his head like a hood.

"I'm sorry…" he whispered as his eyes flared crimson for a split second as he ran from alley to alley.

From the upstairs window, a brown haired beauty watched him as he left. Tears in her eyes. Whispering his name but then refrained from going after him. "I'll be there when you need me Atem, I promised to never let you be alone again and I intend to keep that promise."

Atem ran, and his heart ached the further he got. He can feel her presence there. He stopped and looked back. "I'll see you when you dream… my queen…" he whispered. He turned back around and continued running, a single tear falling from his covered amethyst eye.

Anzu felt her heart skip a beat. "Do you promise?" She placed her hand delicately and gracefully on the window.

Atem continued running. "Yes."

Anzu sighed in minimum relief. As long as he's safe, that's all she needs to know for her to continue in her day. She sat in his bed, her heart aching like mad. She didn't want Atem to go off on his own, yet, she knew he would… Pulling the blankets to her chin, it took her quite some time to calm herself down. Once she did, she felt a lump in the pillow. She reached under and felt something plastic and smooth. She had a feeling she knew what it was. Pulling it out, a small gasp escaped her lips. It was the Lovely Pair heart she had destroyed. Atem fixed it for her, he must have used some magic. Letting it spin freely on its chain, Anzu noticed writing on the back.

Anzu, if you are reading this then that means I set off to find and bring Yugi back. Keep this heart safe, because I'll be coming back for it. ~Atem

Anzu giggled a little. "He'll be coming back for my heart huh? Well maybe I'll just go there and give it to him instead." she said groggily as her eyes shut from this eventful night.

The next day,

All those in the living room had woken up. Atem was gone, and Anzu… cooking? Joey and Tristan followed the smell to the kitchen and saw Anzu prepare breakfast and lunch. The boys saw Anzu turn to face them and expected to see a very depressed Anzu. But instead…

"Good morning boys! I made breakfast and lunch for everyone! Oh, but you two, your lunches are in bags since we have school today." she said perkily and jovially. The others walked in and were just as shocked, well, all but Ishizu of course. Chuckling, she gladly took a seat at the table and politely began to eat. She looked at the others,

"Well, do not just stand there. Miss Anzu has taken the liberty to make us food. Do not just let this food go to waste. Honestly, men these days." Mokuba walked to the table and began eating as did Kaiba. Followed by Joey and Tristan. "My, these pancakes are delicious Miss Anzu." Anzu blushed.

"Aw, thank you really! But I just made regular pancakes." Ishizu smirked internally.

"You know, there is a saying. One's cooking is as good as how they feel." Eyeing Anzu, anyone could just tell how bubbly and happy she is. "I see the Pharaoh has made her happy, good. This one is a good one my Pharaoh."

Anzu looked at her phone and noticed it was time to go. "Oh, Joey, Tristan, it's time to go!" The boys looked at each other.

"Whoa whoa whoa! We're REALLY going to school?!" Tristan yelled. Anzu nodded.

"We do have school silly. Now wash up! Time to get going!"

Fifteen minutes went by and the three were ready for school. Heading out the door after saying good bye to the others.

On their way to school, Anzu sensed the presence of someone evil. She kept that bubbly visage only for when she was around all of them, now it's time to get serious. Speeding up her pace, the three entered the school unharmed… for now.

Anzu is now at science, almost the end of the day, and that evil she sensed hasn't faded. "May I please go to the bathroom?" The teacher nodded and she dashed out. Heading over to the bathroom, she noticed someone go in before her. Not thinking anything of it, she went in casually, only to be pushed against the inside of the door abruptly! "Agh!" Anzu's mouth was muffled with a cloth as the stranger, whose face could not be seen, held a finger to their mouth with a sadistic smile. Anzu began to hyperventilate. There was no magic being used, so she could not defend herself. And not only that… she begun to feel… weak. Chloroform. "I'm sorry… Atem."

That was her last thought before her world turning black…
