AN: Alright I'm back in school so that means more chapters more often! So the bell is about to ring so let's make this AN fast! There's a Soul Eater reference in here, can you find it? Hint hint: has to do with my fav char's theme song. Oh yeah, I also have an editor now, although I edited with chapter by re-reading and using word, but she will also look over other chapters too.

There was always one thing that I admired about Star; her 'take no shit from anyone' attitude. When she wanted a job done right, she did it herself. The way she worked was special and unique. She used her own methods to fight, and that's the reason why Dante stopped working with her. But you haven't seen that part of Star yet. Right now she was still that innocent child. The innocent child within never left till the day that Vergil died.

Her heart held two individuals inside a loving embrace. Her love for Dante never left, and her love for Vergil had only just wiggled its way in.

But when you are faced with two sides of an argument, a choice for each, eventually you will have to pick. Sometimes the choosing in hard and other times it's easy. But in the end, no choice is still a choice. And no choice is forced upon anyone. Everyone had the choice to rebel, to run away, to fight back, but not everyone do. God gave us free will for a reason, use it wisely.

Shock drew a clear path onto the young Star that stood alone. To her left stood one man; calm and tranquil, he always had a soothing touch. To her right stood another man; cocky and proud, he always had a rough touch. Both so alike yet both so different, born from the same mother, the same father, but only a few minutes apart.

There was something Star didn't know about Vergil though, something no one ever told her. Soon she would find out the truth, and soon something inside of her would bend and break. Soon she would become a new Star in the night sky.

"Vergil? Why Vergil? Anyone but him!" Dante shouted at Star.

"I...Umm," she was speechless. She wanted to speak, but no words would come out of her mouth.

"Leave her alone," Vergil said sternly to Dante.

"Was I talking to you, Vergil?" Dante asked with an attitude.

Vergil stepped in front of Star, shielding her from her former lover. "Why have you come here?"

"To come take Star back." He moved slightly to his side so he could see her face from behind Vergil. He gave her a loving smile, to which she didn't know how to reply.

"She's mine," Vergil interrupted.

"You can't just claim her as your own. She's a human being, Not an object!"

And with that word, 'human', Star began to drift into thought. She ignored the world around her. Blocked out the bickering of the two men and drifted into space. Her mind filled with words, pictures, memories, thoughts. Her mind was a broken record stuck on repeat. 'Human? Is this what it feels like to be...human?' she thought to herself. 'I am human? But... No! That's impossible! I am anything but human! ...But he said I was...' She couldn't stop thinking about it. The word seemed strange to her. It felt unusual rolling off her tongue. It had a weird sound. 'Human,' she thought again. And even though it was different, she liked it. Even if by blood she was a demon, by heart she was always human.

Snapping herself out of her trance, she noticed the two boys were no longer yelling at each other, but had their weapons drawn. It was clear, they were going to fight for the right to be with Star. But before she could say anything to stop the two, they began swinging their swords at each other.

It was Dante who swung first. His swing was reckless and filled with rage. Vergil quickly and easily blocked it. Dante pulled out his two guns, "have a nice dream," he smirked. Bam bam bam bam. The sound echoed through the house, making Star jump slightly. Vergil blocked all of the bullets with his sword.

'Fighting over a girl? Hah. How pathetic,' a voice from inside Star's head spoke.

Vergil's turn to attack. He lunged at Dante and went to push his sword into his chest, but Dante deflected the attack with his own sword. With little room to move around they began to slowly destroy the house. Dante quickly swung his sword and Vergil blocked. While their swords were locked together, he quickly pulled one of his guns out. Using one hand to hold his sword and the other to hold the gun, he shot Vergil. The bullet went through him, making him stumble back. Dante took the moment to strike Vergil while his guard was down and landed another blow on Vergil.

The sword hit him hard enough to send him flying through the wall. Vergil got back on his feet as fast as he could. By the time that he was on his feet, Dante had already made his way outside to where he threw him. Star followed to watch in dismay and with hands tied.

Being now distraught, Vergil did the first thing that came to mind. He transformed into his demon form. Using Yamato, he slashed the air in front of him. Even though the blade did not touch Dante, it still cut him, and blood started oozing from his chest.

"Argh!" Dante cried in pain.

"I'll finish you," Vergil threatened.

Vergil summoned three blue spikes around him and shot them at Dante. They all hit him and exploded in his chest. Dante fell to his knees and groaned in pain. He looked over at Star who had a worried look in her eye. He didn't want to do this, he didn't want her to see him like this. But he wanted her, no, he needed her. He needed her touch, her love, her warmth, and he would have it no matter the cost.

He transformed.

The devil within Dante was not the most charming of creatures, and neither was Vergil's, but he was more powerful this way. This is the form that he knew he could use to defeat Vergil with. Unfortunately, this form was only temporary for both Vergil and Dante.

Vergil casted a bubble around him that acted las a shield, while casting bubbles around Dante that exploded and knocked him back. He destroyed the house with these attacks, making the building crumble to the ground.

Luckily, Star and Mr. Bubbles got out before they were crushed by the rubble and were left unharmed.

Both of the men were injured and bleeding. Both out of breath, and both seemed close to death. But Dante has one advantage that Vergil does not: he can't die. He's been stabbed through the heart, crushed in many ways, even shot with a rocket; which didn't actually hit him (he jumped on it).

But everything has to die sometime, everything has to have a way of dying, nothing lives forever. Where there's a wall, there's a way. Even if to our knowledge Dante could not die, there still has to be some way to defeat him. Every religion must one day die, every empire must one day fall and every living creature must one day pass away. That is the balance of the universe. To every positive charge there's a negative charge; Karma. No one can live forever; otherwise the universe would fall and crumble beneath our feet.

Vergil's demon form's time was up. He changed back to normal and stumbled backwards when he did. Seeing his chance, Dante took his sword and with lightning speed, he plunged it deep into his brother's chest. He drove the sword deeper, keeping it there till he changed back. He pulled the sword out of his brother's chest, causing Vergil to fall to the ground in defeat.

Gasping for air, Vergil laid defeated in a pool of his own blood.

Without thinking, Star ran up to Vergil and kneeled to his side.

"Vergil," she wept his name.

"Star," he whispered.

"This is all your fault, Dante!" she shouted.

"I'm sorry it had to come to this," Dante said turning away.

He walked away to leave the two alone for a while to say their goodbyes. As they talked in the background, Dante walked across the ruined home. Something shining caught his attention. He walked over to find that it was a mirror. A simple hand held mirror, it's not something that you would think much of. 'Why would Vergil need a hand mirror for?' Dante thought. Star never bothered using hand mirrors, she never liked them. Vergil wasn't the one to need hand mirrors; it's not like he wore makeup or anything.

Looking closer he found that the mirror looked like it was a little too thick to be a normal hand mirror. He broke the glass to see that it was hollow inside, and not just that, there was a letter with Vergil's hand writing on it. It was addressed to the Father, but was never sent. Dante took the liberty of opening the letter and reading it.

After reading the letter he dropped the mirror to the ground. Part of him expected as much from Vergil, but part of him also couldn't believe that he was planning this all along.

He looked over at Star who seemed to have finished talking to Vergil. That could only mean one thing.

Vergil was dead.

Dante walked over to Star, "there's something you need to see, but not here."

"Go away," she said.

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry? Is sorry all that you can say?" Star snapped at Dante, "do you even care? You cut down your own twin brother! Does any part of you feel any remorse? Sorrow? Greif? Regret? He was your brother! Why does this not matter to you?"

Trying not to shout back, Dante said, "it does matter to me."

"Then why are you so calm about it?"

"Because," Dante mumbled.

"Because what?" Star asked. Dante did not respond, enraging the poor girl more than she was. She asked again, but with more poison in her voice, "because what? Tell me Dante!"

"Because he deserved it!"

Shock tore through Star. Shock soon replaced by pain, confusion, and anger. "How could you say that?"

Sighing, Dante handed Star the letter, "read it," he said.

She took the note in her hand and slowly read each word. "Where did you get this?" she whispered.

"I found it in the rubble inside a hand mirror."

"A hand mirror? Damn it," she paused, "he gave me that as a Christmas gift."

"Star, I-"

"This isn't real, it can't be."

"I'm sorry."

"No! You're wrong! He wouldn't do this! This isn't him!"

"It even has his signature on the bottom. I'm sorry Star, but this was his plan all along."

"He was so good at hiding it," she said weeping silently.

"Come on," he said, trying to help her up, "let's go home." He picked her up bridal style and carried her back home.

The trip back was completely silent. Dante, at a few points, tried to get Star to talk only to be ignored. Silently weeping to herself, Star laid in Dante's arms, refusing to leave his embrace.

They left that letter in the rubble. They refused to talk more about it, neither of them ever brought it back up.

And for the first time since before he met Star, Dante cried.

He cried for his brother, for slaying his brother in cold blood. The cause seemed ill-advised at the time, but as soon as he found out what that letter held, his brother's death was justified. At the time the fight was just over one girl, but it seemed that fight had a deeper meaning than just love. But does the end justify the means? That I'll let you, friend, decide for yourself.

I bet you're wondering what that letter held, what it said. So I shall tell you. I am about to entrust you with a secret, but only because you are my friend. I was told not to tell anyone what that letter held, but I was not told why I wasn't allowed to tell anyone. I can't tell you word from word what that letter held, but I can tell you what secrets it concealed.

It seemed to have been a letter that was supposed to be sent to the Father, but since he died, Vergil never sent it. It explained why Vergil shot Star then walked away and also what he was planning.

In the letter it said that he shot Star to ensure that she was the real demon from the prophecy that he was told of. He knew that if he shot her, she wouldn't die and the wound would close up right after she pulled the bullet out. So he wanted to test it out, and he was right.

But the shocking part lay deeper within the fine print. The letter proceeded to talk about Vergil's plan with Star. He was told that if she stayed with Dante the prophecy would not be completed. If the prophecy was completed then Vergil would be able to gain more power because the door to the Underworld would open up in effect.

He came up with the idea to make Star fall in love with him so the prophecy would be fulfilled and he could gain power.

But as fate didn't want it that way.

Maybe there's still hope for Star and Dante after all. Or maybe Vergil was told misleading information. Either way fate already has an ending to his love story.
