Hello all, sorry about the delays on all of our fics. Marcus and I are both very busy making it hard to find time to write and especially edit new chapters but just bare in. Here's the newest chapter that I hope you all enjoy so START THE STORY!
They both headed out of the room both of them hating that they had to go back to the party. "Stupid party." Destiny sighed
Then she spotted in the crowd the LAST person she wanted to see and quickly turned heading to the buffet away from him but he had already saw her and followed. "Destiny!" he called out.
Destiny stopped in her tracks and said as more a growl without turning around, "What do you want, Thomas?"
"You walked out on me! In front of the nation at OUR wedding." He said
Just like that she saw nothing but a very blurry red and spun on her heels to face him. "You bastard! Do you even realize what that wedding was?!"
"It was our wedding it was supposed to be a happy day!"
"I NEVER WANTED THAT WEDDING! My father had arranged it and threatened my friends if I didn't agree!"
"He what?"
"You didn't seriously think that whole thing was out of my free will did you?"
"Well, I had hoped," he said.
"It most certainly wasn't and never will be. In case you haven't notice, Thomas. I HATE you! Even before this mess and PLEASE take offense to that."
"I...I never meant for you to hate me..."
"You're pretty much the living embodiment of everything the Capitol stands for which for most people here will get you far. The difference is I hate everything the Capitol stands for."
"Why? You were raised here."
"Because I have a brain and a conscience that tells me that everything is wrong."
"Why?"
"I'm not even gonna bother. You could never understand."
"I care about you though," he said.
"Please, just leave me alone."
"I just...I thought you wanted that wedding is all." He said turning away.
"I just want you to be out of my life for good," she said turning away as well but finding back at the buffet which she was just using as a distraction as it sickened her as well. Especially the clear filled glasses at the end.
"What was that?" Katniss asked
"The boy I almost married."
"Why?"
"We already went over that."
"I know but he's just so...I don't know
"He apparently didn't know what the wedding really was."
"Oh, I see."
"Yeah, so he was mad at me for walking out on him at the altar."
"Oh I see."
"Hopefully he finally got the message."
"I think so."
"I really can't stand that guy."
"I can see that."
"Yeah, of course that made the whole thing absolutely terrible."
"Yeah, I suppose."
"I just don't know what to do now though."
"Well, who did you leave him for?"
"The guy I had to break-up with when that happened. We had been dating about a year and he was the one who saved me."
"They didn't show his face the screen cut out after the peacekeeper came flying in."
"The cameras came unplugged in the chaos."
"Oh I see."
"Yeah."
"Well can I meet him?"
"No, he couldn't be here and you get to go back to 12 after this."
"Well, that is disappointing."
"Yeah, you would have liked him though."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, he's really nice. Though REALLY damaged."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, he was recently rescued from extremely abusive parents."
"Oh! I am really sorry," she said.
Destiny sighed. "Yeah, it was really bad. Physical, emotional, and neglect."
"Why?"
"I don't know. They were terrible people."
"Well, maybe they are dead now."
"They are," Destiny said, since the chances are high and in any situation Katniss knows to be possible they'd know for sure.
"Good then."
"Yeah, they certainly deserved it."
"Terrible people do."
"Only at a certain level."
"Well, they reached that level."
"Definitely."
"I guess I'll have to go soon." Katniss said.
"Yeah."
"Thank you," she said.
"No issue."
"So, is that all?" she asked.
"Still thanks for showing me you're not all bad."
"Almost all of us are so that's understandable."
"Well, now I know a few who aren't."
"Well, you can't judge any one by where they're from. I mean, you're certainly not what people think of when they hear 'District 12'."
"I guess that's true."
"Just keep that in mind with anyone."
"I will."
"Goodbye, Katniss."
"Goodbye, Destiny." Katniss headed off with that.
'Now I can go.' Destiny thought.
She turned and made her way out of the mansion a way she knew only someone who lived there our had before would even know was there. Soon she was free. "Stupid parties," she mumbled though was at least glad to have talked with Katniss.
"Feel good to be free?" Kawino asked knowing where she would exit from and waiting for her.
"Yeah, I talked with Katniss though," she said pulling him into a hug.
"Really? How did that go?" he asked holding her close.
"Really well actually, have a plan for when we get near 12 now."
"That's great, we need it," he said, scooping her up.
"Thomas was there."
"Oh how did that go?" he asked, walking them home.
"He yelled at me for leaving him at the wedding! Can you believe him?!"
"Well given it's him...yes I can."
"If that little creep has the nerve to show his face to me one more time I swear I'll do the whole world a favor and rip his throat out."
"Destiny, relax; he's gone now." Kawino said gently kissing her cheek.
"Right, thanks, Kawino."
"It's my pleasure. I am just happy you're back with me," he said.
"So am I."
He smiled as they opened the door to what was now just their home. "It all worked out then."
"Anyone here?"
"No, Clove and I moved the last of her stuff to her and Cato's when you left."
Destiny frowned a little. "You sure she should be…?"
"Living with Cato? She insisted on it, and I did not let her move anything heavy neither did Cato I promise."
"Okay and it was the second one I was talking about."
"Oh! Yeah, we didn't let her move anything heavy."
"Okay, good."
"Yeah," he said, going to the large room that was now theirs.
"There's something else I should talk to you about real quick."
"Okay what is it?" He asked setting her down on her side of the bed.
"When I first got there I was met with one of the butlers."
"Okay, and that's odd?" he asked, sitting beside her.
"Well, he had some information, about Coriolanus and Augustina."
"Your parents?" he asked.
"Yes."
"So, what did they say?"
She explained the whole thing.
"Well that's...unexpected."
"What do you think?"
"Well, maybe you should give him a chance."
"So, should I go back then?"
"No, I love having you here, but talk to him I could come if you want."
"That would help."
"Okay, when you want to go, I can help you."
"Okay, thank you."
"Not tonight though?" he asked.
"No not tonight."
"Alright then let's rest," he said.
"Right, probably should."
"You want the bath first?" He asked.
"Whichever you prefer."
"Come with?" he asked
She was surprised by the offer but nodded. He smiled and offered his hand to her which she took with a smile. With that he pulled her into the bathroom unzipping her dress as they went.
The next day Destiny and Kawino headed back to the mansion. "I'm nervous." She admitted
"It's okay. I'm here for you."
"I know, but still," she said, leaning into him.
"I know you're nervous."
"Yeah."
"We don't have to do this you know."
"Yes I do."
"If you're sure."
"I am just stay with me okay?"
"Of course I will."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, Destiny." They headed inside. "Know where to find him?"
"Yeah, his office."
"When you're ready then." She waited for a few minutes before nodding.
She led him to her father's office. They walked into a large room with wide bay windows looking out into a rose garden. Sure enough, President Snow sat at his desk. "Father."
"Destiny!" He said smiling
"I need to talk to you."
"Of course, please, have a seat," he said. They both did but she kept a hold on Kawino's hand. "I see you brought Kawino."
"Your observational skills are impeccable."
"Right, well, I wanted to try and clear the air between us."
"Well, that is kind of what I came for. Beatrice said that you've been nice recently."
"I have been trying yes."
"How exactly?"
"I realized after you left that what I had been allowing to happen to you and Panem was not right."
"Took you that long?"
"No part of me always knew."
"Yet you still did and do it," Destiny snapped harshly.
"Yes, I let myself get manipulated." Destiny snorted at that. "It's true I was just the face of it all."
"What about Katniss?" she asked shocking him that she knew about that. "She told me everything."
"I needed to I would never really hurt her family, but a rebellion will not allow us to make things any better."
"Katniss isn't going to be able to stop a rebellion, only you can at this point. These people are rebelling because they're tired of living shitty lives and sending their children to fight to the death every year! If you could actually make an effort to change that then it wouldn't matter if Katniss and Peeta never even look at each other again. The people would have no reason to rebel."
"How can I do that?"
"You can start with a country wide broadcast announcement that you DO recognize the problems and will at least TRY!"
"Who would believe me?"
"It would be a step in the right direction at least."
"Alright, I will."
"Then you'll have to live up to that."
"I will I can schedule it when we are done."
"Then there's the games or bloodbath as Yizziki always calls them."
"That is harder to stop."
"I see no reason you can't."
"Well, you need to consider the Capital as well."
"They'll be disappointed and maybe a little mad for a short why but certainly not revolutionary."
"No, they will revolt against me."
Destiny looked at Kawino for a second then said, "Maybe there is a way to please both." They both looked at her with eyebrows raised. "The resurrection project. If you just pretty much do the same thing but send them home instead of locking them up here then the Capitol gets their games and the districts get their children."
"Then the winners still get a reward, and it becomes just like the sports that they played in the previous society." Kawino said
"Any problems with that, Coriolanus?"
"No, we can get that to work."
"Then there's the extreme poverty."
"We send more to the mayor's."
"And they'll get it through the districts." Destiny finished. "And the 'Peace'keeping forces? Obviously not completely eliminate but some like in 2 and 11 DEFINITELY need fixing."
"They'll be fixed to be more like here."
"And not killing off the Careers' families goes without saying right?"
"Yes, of course."
"And then working conditions for the export based jobs. People in a lot of the districts are dying or being seriously injured just doing their jobs."
"So what do we do?"
Destiny had to think about that one. "It won't with the quick deaths like mining accidents but even just in general none of the districts but 1 or 2 have doctors or hospitals."
"So we should start there and bring Capital medicine." Kawino said
"Then that only leaves the trade."
"Which is" Kawino asked
"He knows what I'm talking about." Destiny said obviously directed to Snow.
"Yes, I know." He sighed.
"End it."
"It must be done," he agreed.
"What's the trade?" Kawino asked again.
"The victor sex trade." Destiny answered. "Any victor who is deemed particularly desirable once they reach seventeen is forced to have sex with random Capitol citizens for large amounts of money. If they refuse everyone they care about it killed." Kawino felt an urge to vomit. "So yeah, that needs to end immediately."
"Yeah it does."
"This will be a lot of time and effort." Snow said.
"For now, make these intentions known. Then worry about implementation."
"Okay, so a press conference?"
"Exactly."
"Very well give me time to prepare a speech."
"Of course, better hurry though."
"I will, but what about things between you and I?"
Destiny wasn't sure of that answer. "Do you two want me to step out?" Kawino asked
"No," Destiny said instantly, keeping a hold on his hand.
"Okay, I'm here." He said pulling her so she sat comfortably on his lap.
"Does this mean Kawino has to go home?" Destiny asked out of the blue avoiding the subject and also putting up one that really does need to be put on the table.
"Well, I think for those living here now it should be a choice. In fact everyone should choose where they want to live District wise within reason."
"That's a great idea actually. I didn't even think of that."
"Within reason, so each District has a decent sized population."
"So, like I could go to 12 with Maysilee?"
"If you wanted to."
"Would it be possible to keep wherever I end up a secret?" Kawino asked.
"Yes though why would you want to?"
"They might try to follow."
"They?" He asked.
"My parents."
"Why is that a bad thing?"
"Wait, you don't know?" Destiny asked, both of them a little surprised.
"No I don't."
Kawino hesitated but told him about his 'childhood'.
"Oh, I never knew," he said.
"So, yeah, I'm terrified of them."
"Something terrifies you?"
"Is that so shocking?"
"Yes a bit."
"Why?"
"You seem fearless."
"Well, I'm not."
"I can see that now."
"You can make sure they don't find out where I go though?"
"I can if you want it that way."
"I do. Thank you."
"I could get them arrested." He said.
"Really?" Kawino asked, excited by the thought.
"Yes really."
"I never realized they could."
"Of course they can."
"For what?"
"Child neglect and abuse for a start."
"Meaning?"
"That they did not take care of and mistreated you."
"Weren't you two abusing Destiny then?"
"In a way, yes we were."
"Why would you arrest them then?"
"Because it's right and if Destiny wants us arrested as well...I will allow it to happen."
"You can both stop a talking about me like I'm not here." Destiny pointed out. "And I would like Augustina arrested but if you are then none of this stands even a remote chance."
"Alright consider it done."
"Really?" she asked.
"Yes really I told you I want to fix Panem and our relationship."
He was certainly but pleasantly surprised when she got up and hugged him. She stepped back after a short time. "Thank you."
He was smiling a little, "Thank you, Destiny. I never did want you to hate me."
"Well, maybe we can get through things with times."
"I hope so but I certainly can't blame you."
"Then there is still hope."
"Thank you and thank for the help with how to fix Panem."
"They need it."
"Definitely but still, thank you."
"It's my pleasure."
"We need to go tell the others," Destiny said to Kawino.
"Yeah, this changes everything."
"No joke."
He smiled and took her hand again. "Leave right now you mean?" he asked.
"Yeah, the sooner, the better."
"As you wish then," he said, getting up.
"It was nice talking," Destiny said
"I think so, too," Snow said.
"We'll have to do it again sometime."
"The door's always open to you."
She froze and Kawino saw a slight smile come to her face. "That's good to know." She said still not facing her father. "I probably will be back," she admitted.
"I look forward to it." He said
"Goodbye then."
"Goodbye, Destiny."
With that, she and Kawino headed off. "That was oddly enjoyable."
"Yeah, that's good."
"I never expected that."
"I don't think anyone would have or will."
"It's a good kind of surprise."
"Of course it is."
"Maybe it all really was your mother."
"I guess so."
"Things change."
"Clearly, let's just head back though."
"Of course, Clove and Cato first." She nodded and they headed over to their house.
When they walked in they found Cato struggling in the kitchen looking stressed "What's wrong?" Kawino asked, coming over.
"Clove is having cravings, and I can't cook very well."
"I could help." Destiny offered. "We have a lot of huge news for you both though."
"I'll go get her if you two can handle this."
"We will."
"Okay thank you."
"It's our pleasure."
"Go." Kawino said smiling
He nodded and headed to the living-room. "Coming Clover!" He called. "Kawino and Destiny are here."
"Okay come help me get there." He went over and helped her up.
Together they made their way to the dining room. "So, what's this news?" Cato asked.
"Well, Kawino and I had gone to talk with my father."
"That sounds terrifying."
"Not really this time actually. We got a lot of really great news from it."
"Yeah, what is it?" She asked.
"Well, first of all, your 'parents' are going to be arrested for child abuse and so is my mother."
"No way!" She gasped with a wide grin
"Yes way! And it gets better!"
"How?"
"He wants to fix things not only with the two of us but the districts," Destiny said, then explained the whole plan.
"That's incredible!"
"I know right! It would fix everything!"
"It's just so great."
"I know. Of course it will take time but wow!"
"Yeah, he really wanted to change."
"I honestly think this will work. Then no one would have a reason to rebel."
"Yeah, really they wouldn't."
"He's gonna announce these all to Panem as soon as he has a speech written out."
"Well, then we are not leaving?" Clove asked.
"Not really much of a point. Not that way anyways."
"Yeah that's good though."
"Yeah, bringing a newborn through hundreds of miles of wilderness was a little too ambitious anyways."
"Yeah it really was."
"Now we can still get out of the Capitol without having to be sneaky about it."
"No one has to run the risk of getting shot."
"Exactly."
"Always a plus."
"I never imagined it would go that well."
"Who could have?"
"No one really."
"Exactly."
"We should tell the rest of our group though."
"Okay let's go then."
"Maybe it would be better to contact them and get them all here."
"Yeah, I would appreciate that."
"I'll get started then."
"I'll cook." Kawino said.
"I'll reach them then."
"Thank you both." Clove said.
"No problem."
"We appreciate it."
"I'll just get started now." Destiny said awkwardly, going over to the phone.
She dialed Yizziki as Kawino went to work.
Soon the whole group was there. "So we have great news escape is no longer necessary."
"What do you mean?" Yizziki asked.
Destiny explained the new situation.
"Unbelievable."
"I know. I was astounded as well."
"That really does change everything."
"I know right?"
"So how long would this take?"
"It would be a little while he will make the announcement after he writes up a speech."
"But for the changes to actually be made?"
"A while."
"I guess it's bound to."
"Yeah but it's a start."
"Definitely, and some parts should be quicker."
"Yeah, of course, that is how change works."
"So, what will happen when we're not all stuck here?" Ember asked.
"We can all live somewhere." Kawino offered
"The same place?"
"The same district at least." He said.
"How could we agree on one?"
"We could vote."
"I guess. That could work."
"So then let's present options," Destiny said.
"Would 13 even be a choice?" Yizziki asked.
"If they agree to be a part of things yes."
"I think that's the obvious choice then."
"Why?" Ember asked
"Well, it's perfect."
"It'll go as an option but we should probably look more into what it's like."
"Yeah, I suppose so." Yizziki sighed.
"Anyone else?"
"What about 11?" Clove asked.
"Alright, any reason why?"
"Well, it's large and supposedly very green. The crops would be fresher for us and we could spend more time outside."
"Alright, so 11 and 13. How about 12 though." Kawino pitched.
"Really why 12?" Yizziki asked
"Maysilee's probably going to want to go back there."
"Yeah, but other than that it does not offer much." Ember said.
"Just an option."
"Alright, so 12 is there too then. Anymore?" Destiny asked
"Well, I would like to see my sister and parents again." Cato said though hesitant because of Clove and Kawino. Though their parents will be arrested it still likely holds painful memories.
"Oh, so 2?" Kawino asked.
"Yeah."
"Well...maybe."
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have…"
"No it's okay."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, it's fine."
"Anywhere else then?"
"Five." Ember said.
"Right, of course, your own family."
"Yes exactly."
"Any others?"
"No, I think that's it."
"Then we need to pick one."
"Okay, then let's think this over."
"So just take a vote?" Kawino asked.
"Seems best."
"Okay, I guys we'll go in order. All for 2?" Cato and Clove raised their hands. "All for 5?" Gantile and Ember raised their hands. "11?" No one's hands went up that time. "So 11's out. 12?" Kawino asked, raising his own hand. Destiny raised her hand as well. "13?" he asked finally, earning Yizziki's hand. "So...none of us agree." He said, He sighed not knowing what to do.
"What if..." Ember said carefully speaking. "...we split up."
"Well, I guess that would only be fair."
"But to split up after all this time and all we have been through?" Kawino said and his fear of abandonment was clearly setting in as he stared at them all.
"With the new laws we'd still all be able to see each other."
"We wouldn't be together though..." He said looking down. She wasn't sure what to say. "I just...I don't want to lose any of you." He said.
"You wouldn't really lose us."
"You wouldn't be there." He said.
"Do you have any other ideas?"
"No, but I just...I don't know." He sighed.
"We'll still make sure to see each other a lot."
"I suppose."
"We really are then?" he asked.
"It seems like the only way to be fair to all of us," Destiny said gently
"I guess so."
"So, we are really going to do this?" Destiny asked
"It looks like we are."
"Wow, this is...interesting." Clove said sadly
"I didn't think it would come to this."
"No one did." Kawino muttered
"We do have plenty of time until then though." Destiny pointed out.
"Yeah, I guess so. I need to take a walk." Kawino said
"Well, alright."
"Thanks." He said leaving before anyone else could speak up.
"This is really hitting him hard." Cato sighed
"That's to be expected." Clove sighed.
"Well, I mean he has to understand right?" Ember asked
"He understands; he just doesn't like it."
"Well, still he can't be that hurt."
"He'll be fine with time. It will just take a lot of it."
"He thinks that in a small way we are all choosing to leave him," Yizziki said.
"I didn't think about it that way."
"He did though; you know that's one of his biggest issues."
"Yes I do." She sighed.
"We all sort of forgot."
"What can we do then?"
"Well, we could talk to him."
"And say what?"
"I'm not sure."
So yeah, none of you expected that either did you? That is not a rhetorical question. Please review and tell us your thoughts positive or negative. Still immune to flames.
