Important AN

Hey, sorry it's taken so long to get this chapter done, know just to make something clear before you read. There is a character in this chapter that I am 'recycling' from the Naruto universe, but they have no connection to the original Naruto story.

After many weeks of therapy (and experimental drugs) I am happy to say that I no long see break dancing bunnies. I have realised that they are a figment of my imagination and that there his no such thing.

(Looks around to make sure that the doctor has left the room)

They are real and they are still trying to get me! If you see any shoot on sight, and if anyone finds my socks please let me know!

Updated- 7/10/13 (please remember I am English, I think the calendar is set up different in America)

Enjoy the chapter :)

Chapter 11- It's not Murder if they are Already Dead!

XXX

Once again Naruto couldn't help but laugh inside his head at the reaction he was getting from the people around him as he pulled up outside the building that the fundraiser was being held. He pulled up on his bike wearing blue jeans, a red shirt under his leather jacket, and after taking off his helmet, a black bucket hat. He walked up the red carpet with his hands in his pockets, a small smile on his lips and ignoring the question about who he was from the reporters on either side of the carpet, made his way into the extravagant building.

The actual ball room was huge, with a high ceiling, five crystal chandleries set into different place above their heads. The walls where painted a light cream, with dark red curtains on either side of the floor to ceiling windows, and the floor was covered in an equally red carpet. He could see several waiters in white suits carrying trays around the room, stopping at random groups of people before moving on to the next and a large table to his left they was full of food. A stage had been place in the middle of the room for the band that was playing, and probably for any announcements later on.

The people, all dressed in expensive clothes, walked around with an air superiority that made the whiskered teen physically sick to his stomach. Naruto couldn't help but think of the irony, the money spent on the clothes these people were wearing probably cost more then the money they were going to donate.

Many heads turned in his direction as he made his way across the room, the reactions as varied as the people themselves. He saw several women giving him admiring looks, men frowning or shaking their heads at his state of dress, and a few that seemed confused as to why he was allowed through the front door by security.

It didn't take him long to find the mayor, an elderly man in his late fifties a drink in one hand while he talked to a group of men and women that seemed to find everything he said hilarious. When they saw him walking towards them they fell silent, the only one that seemed to actually know who he was being the Mayor himself, who put on what Naruto assumed was supposed to be a friendly smile.

"Mr Uzumaki, a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I have heard nothing but good things about you from my assistants."

Shaking the hand that was offered, Naruto returned the smile and nodded his head.

"Thank you, I was actually hoping to discuss several things with you, if you have the time?"

Letting out a good natured laugh, which was copied by several of the people around them, the Mayor patted him on the shoulder before shaking his head.

"Tonight is not about business, it's about having some fun! You should relax, mingle a little, after all you're only young once!"

Raising an eyebrow, the whiskered teen shook off the hand before frowning slightly.

"Fun you say? I was led to understand that this was a fundraiser for the homeless of Gotham."

The laughing stopped abruptly, the people suddenly getting uncomfortable looks on their faces as they slowly started to walk away, looking everywhere but the blonde teen. The Mayor was the only one that stayed, though the smile was gone and he was looking at Naruto in a new light. It actually surprise the ex-nin that the man didn't actually seem angry that he had been caught out, just interested.

Looking around to make sure that they were alone, the old politician's shoulders sagged slightly, losing the stiff posture, and after letting out a small sigh locked eyes with the young man in front of him.

"You are a smart boy, and your right. But the fact is that the only way to get donations from most rich people is to play their game, let them get dressed up and they will donate to make themselves look good."

For a moment Naruto couldn't help but think of how the Sandaime had always acted around him, before he found out he had been lying to him his whole life.

Nodding in understanding, he pulled a folder out of his jacket and handed it to the Mayor, who raised an eyebrow before looking though it, his eyes widening more and more as he read. When he had finished reading, he looked back up at the blonde teen in front of him with a small, true smile, not like the one he wore around the rich guests.

"Is this the 'business' you wanted to discuss with me?"

"More give you a warning; the fact is that as of two hours ago I legally own the land, the next phase starts tomorrow. I already have men walking the streets informing those that need to know."

Handing the folder back, the Mayor nodded in thanks, the smile still in place.

"Are you going to announce your plan tonight? It would be appropriate all things considering, and if you put them on the spot you might get a few of them to publically support you, just to save face in front of the reporters."

Smirking Naruto turned to leave, but not before giving one last comment over his shoulder.

"Give me an opening and I will give you and everyone else in this room a show you will never forget."

Without waiting for a response Naruto walked away.

For the next half an hour he 'mingled', though considering he didn't actually talk to anyone that probably wasn't the right word. He honestly couldn't stand the people in this room, with their condescending voices, their expensive clothes and self important attitudes. If the Mayor didn't give him his opening soon he might actually take one of the patters from a passing waiter and bash it into someone's skull!

"You look about as out of place as I do, so what's your story?"

Turing to look at the man that had just leaned against the wall next to him, who as one of the few that wasn't wearing a suit that could buy a building, he easily recognised him as the chief of police, Commissioner Gordon. Letting out a small snort, Naruto shrugged his shoulders.

"Made a fortune, kept it secret for about two years before the press found out and now I'm stood in a room with a bunch of insufferable assholes who are more interested in dancing and making bad jokes then they are in why this party is being thrown in the first place."

His answer make the Commissioner laugh, sending the younger man a smile as he patted him on the back.

"You're alright kid"

Before they could say anymore a girl a little older then Naruto, with long red hair wearing a beautiful black dress that showed off her curves, walked over to the two. He didn't miss the way her bright, blue eyes widened for a second when they landed on him, before she covered it up and looked to Gordon with a small frown on her face.

"And what do you think you're doing hiding in this corner? If I have to put up with this so do you daddy."

Giving a nervous chuckle at being caught, Gordon quickly looked to the smaller teen stood next to him before smiling at his daughter.

"I was just talking to this young man; this is my daughter, Barbara. Barbara this is...erm..."

Shaking his head at the poor attempt to cover him self, Naruto took pity on the man and offered his hand to the red haired beauty.

"Naruto Uzumaki, pleasure to meet you."

The moment she took a step forward to shake his hand, Naruto had to suppress his grin. It was hard to pick it up because of her perfume, but there was no doubt in his mind that she was batgirl. Hundreds of thoughts flew through his mind at the turn of events, not to mention the fact that one of the mot famous sidekicks in the world was the daughter of Commissioner Gordon.

Putting on a gentle smile, the whiskered teen pulled his hand back and watched as the father and daughter talked for a moment before the now named Barbara gently pushed Gordon back towards the people in the room. Just as she was about to walk away Naruto let a smirk cross his face and spoke, stopping her in her tracks.

"I always wondered, is the bat symbol on your ass a fashion statement, or is there a bigger meaning?"

Turning to look at him with a confused expression, which didn't fool him for a second, the red headed teen raised her eyebrow at him.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Chuckling, Naruto stood up from the wall and, in what anyone that might be glancing in their direction would mistake for an interment action, leaned in to her neck and took a long sniff before placing his mouth next to her ear to insure no one would overhear what he was saying.

"You may wear a mask to cover your face, but I can smell you, Batgirl."

Hearing her gasp Naruto pulled away, making a mental note to talk to Lust later about taking over his body, he smirk at the mixture of shock and fear that was clearly visible on her face.

Quickly pulling herself together Barbara looked around to make sure that no one was looking at them, before pushing the blonde teen against the wall.

"What do you want?"

"Who said I wanted anything?"

Frowning slightly, the red headed teen added a little more pressure where her hand was holding him against the wall on his chest, not that he was trying to stop her.

"What. Do. You. Want?"

"I already told you nothing, it's not like I was looking for you or anything. Now will you back off a little? I have a girlfriend."

Realising the position they were in, Barbara quickly backed away with a small blush on her cheeks.

"You're not going to tell anyone?"

"Why would I, what you do in your spare time is none of my business. I would suggest that you and the bat figure out a way to neutralize your scent before a villain with a strong nose gets lucky. All I ask is that you let me do what I came here to do."

"And just what is it you came here to do?"

She didn't like the smirk that crossed his lips at her question, it was to confident, like he knew more then anyone else in the room and took great pleasure in it.

"You don't need to know, just stay out of my way, and in a few days I will be back in Jump city."

"Just stay out of your way while you threaten and beat information out of people you mean."

Again the smirk, she was starting to really hate that smirk!

"First of all you should be thankful that I have been holding back in my efforts to get the information that I needed, there are several faster and more efficient ways to get information. Secondly, I already found what I am looking for, so you don't need to worry about it anymore. By the way, do you really think you have any right to talk about my methods, your 'teacher' has gone to more extreme methods in the past to get what he wants, it's a little hypocritical of you to judge me."

It was official, she really hated that smirk.

But before she could think of a retort, the Mayor walked up onto the stage and got everyone's attention by tapping the microphone. When all eyes were on him the old politician cleared his throat and put his fake smile on.

"Welcome Ladies and Gentleman, and thank you all for taking time out of your busy lives to come here tonight. On behalf of the homeless of Gotham, I thank you all for your generous donations. The made reason I am making this announcement is to introduce a very special guest tonight, someone that is joining us all the way from Jump city, Mr Naruto Uzumaki."

Smiling at it finally being time, Naruto turned to the red headed crime fighter as he walked towards the stage.

"I'm sure we will talk again, Barbara-san, so until then have a good time, and enjoy the show."

The last part was little more then a whisper, but she was still able to hear it.

Quickly making his way forwards smiling at everyone as they applauded him for no actual reason, Naruto jumped up onto the stage and after shaking hands with the Mayor, sharing a small smirk with the man as he left the stage, Naruto turned to look out over the face and cameras that were pointing at him.

"Thank you all for the generous welcome, it means a lot to me that I was invited to this event. Not many people know this, but only a few years ago...I was homeless."

The room went completely silent at his words, a sea of shocked faces starring at him as if what he said was the most shocking thing in the world.

"I know what its like to huddle up in an alley with nothing but the clothes on your back and a cardboard box to protect you from the bitter cold at night. I know what its like to be so desperate for food that you need to dig through garbage for scraps just to survive, and to be ignored by the people around you that don't want to acknowledge your existence. I have seen people, good people, that have done nothing wrong in their lives, lose all hope and wait for death because its less painful then fighting on."

It was so quiet in the room that you could hear a pin drop, everyone seeming to be frozen in place as they listened.

"Look at yourselves right now, if we were to compare the total price of the clothes you are wearing to the amount that has been donated, what would we see. None of you care about helping others, your all just here to look good in front of the cameras and have 'fun'. But while you have fun dressing up and laughing, people are living on the streets, with nothing but the clothes on their backs, starving, cold, sick, dying! The mere sight of you makes me sick to my stomach."

At his words angry muttering could be heard throughout the room, though surprisingly several people could be seen with either regretful looks on their faces or actually nodding their heads in agreement with what he was saying.

"As of this afternoon, I am the legal owner of the East Gotham Slums, a place that has been abandoned and left to rot for over thirty years."

At his words the room felling into complete silence yet again, even the reporters being too shocked to comment. The East Gotham Slums was not a small place, it actually made up about 15% of the city, and apparently this mostly unknown teenager had just brought the whole thing.

"As we speak my people are gathering up everyone that is living there and taking them to temporary residents, where they will be given food, new clothes and warm beds, and tomorrow my people will start to level the entire East Slums. In its place I am building several homeless shelters, a free hospital, several hundred new homes, and more. The homeless people that are being moved as we speak will be offered jobs and training, along with any more that come from all over Gotham. And I am paying for all of it out of my own pocket. That is all I have to say."

For a moment nothing happened, everyone in the room in complete shock at his announcement. Then, slowly at first, an old man stood at the back of the room started to clap his hands. Then another and another until about a third of the people in the room, the ones that weren't angry at being insulted, were applauding the blonde teen as he stepped off the stage. The reporters crowded around him in seconds, practically jumping over each other in their desperation to ask questions, which were all ignored.

Without even looking around as he went, Naruto walked straight from the stage to the front doors, where he was met with cheering from the crowd that had stayed and were watching the whole fundraiser on a big screen that had been set up outside. Again without looking around, the blonde teen took his keys from the vela, put his helmet on and drove back to his hotel.

XXX

After Narutos announcement the fundraiser seemed to calm down pretty quickly, though Barbara did notice that several people had left checks before leaving.

She wasn't sure what to make of the whiskered teen, after what had happened when thy first met she was almost positive that he was a villain in the making, but now she didn't know what to think. The project he had just announced would cost millions of dollars and do more good for this city they anything that had been done in a long time, not to mention he wasn't going to tell anyone her identity. He even told her how he had done it and suggested that she fix it.

But the way he talked about staying out of his way put her on edge.

Whatever he was doing if it was for good then why not enlist the local hero's for help? Or better yet just let them handle it. From what Robin had told them he had no interest in being a hero, even though he was powerful, and could probably take them on with little problems. Yet for someone that didn't want to be a hero he was sure doing a bad job at it, after all what else would you call someone that was doing so much for the homeless of Gotham.

Then there was what he had said at the start, about how he used to be homeless, but he was only a teenager! If it was true then that would mean he was just a kid when he was living n the streets why wasn't he in an orphanage. Because of the many mentally unstable villains that they were forced to fight in Gotham Barbara had taken several Physiology classes in an attempt to better understand the people she was fighting, and it was because of this that she was so confused. Naruto Uzumaki was one big contradiction! Northing about him made any sense.

Though as she made her way to her car there was one thing Barbara was sure about, she was glade that Bruce had decided to go on patrol tonight instead of her, otherwise his cover would have been blown. Deciding to skip going home to change, the red headed vigilantly drove straight to the Batcave to tell him what had happened.

XXX

The over the next two days Naruto spent several hours in the East Slums, overseeing the plans, talking to his workers, most of who were retired veterans that had been injured in battle and couldn't get a job when they returned weather it was because of a missing limb or PTSD. He even spent some time talking to the homeless people at they had rounded up and moved into tents they had set up. He couldn't help the smile that was on his face as they all came up to him, shaking his hand with tears in their eyes, and thanked him for what he was doing.

Despite his time in Konoha living on the streets Naruto did have a few fond memories of his fellow homeless people. They and all looked out for each other, sharing blankets they found, watching each others backs, marking which places were the best to find food. Everyone was equal when you had nothing, even the village pariah. They had even help hide him from the mobs when they could. As far as Naruto was concerned some of the best people you could meet were the ones that had lived on the streets.

As for why he made such an effort to hire retired soldiers, the fact was that the way some of them were treated made him question whether the human race was even worth fighting to protect. These men and women had risked their lives fighting for what they believed in, and when they returned were treated like they didn't exist. Even Ninja had enough respect for their injured to make sure they were cared for if they could no longer fight.

On the third day, after spending the entire morning making sure that everything was going as planned, Naruto returned to his hotel room for the afternoon and started preparing himself for what he was going to do that night. His clones had mange to gather a lot of information from watching the 'church' that had been created in the South slums. Apparently his target was a man going by the name of Hidan, a 23 year old man with silver hair and red eyes that has set himself up as some kind of priest. They called themselves 'The Followers of Jashin' and after doing a little research Naruto knew that he needed to act soon. He was able to find out that Jashin was an enchant 'God' of blood and chaos, and the book that he was after was the first 'Bible' of Jashin. It contained dark blood magic and rituals and was definitely a Class 1.

Unfortunately his clones had also reported that the group had already gone through with several rituals, meaning that they had sacrificed more the thirty people, and that Hiden's life force was already tied to the book. This meant that was long as its power was flowing through him he was basically immortal, but the moment it stopped he was dead. Well, dead might not be the correct word, because all of The Followers of Jashin were dead, had been for some time from what he had seen. They were all being kept alive by the power of the book.

After a whole year of research Naruto had found a way to contain the power of the books he hunted by sealing them into mirror lined boxes. It cut off their powers completely, which meant that the moment he sealed it, all 54 Jashinists would die instantly. Not that he actually cared either way; his clones had seen the group rape, torture and kill men, women and children with grins on their faces. Whether it was the influence of the book or not, they were all already dead as far as Naruto was concerned, and it's not murder if they are already dead.

XXX

Later that night found Naruto standing on top of the roof the 'church' had been hidden in, he looked down through the skylight with an emotionless expression on his face. He had changed into all black clothing, with a mask similar to the one Kakashi had always worn around his neck ready to be pulled up when needed. One each hip sat a kunai pouch and a simple katana rested on his back with the hilt over his right shoulder, ready to be drawn at a moments notice.

The inside of the church was grim to say the least. Black walls and floors, with a blood red carpet running between two rows of red benches on which sat a group of red cloaked people, their hoods pulled up to hide their faces. Chained to the walls were several dead bodies of men, women and children, hung by their ankles with their throats cut, the blood dripping into bowls that sat on the floor just for the purpose of collecting the life fluid as it fell from the bodies. In one corner was a large pile of dead bodies that had already been drained and had been tossed to the side and left to rot. At the end of the carpet a symbol had been painted in what Naruto assumed was blood, it looked like an upside down triangle inside a circle. In the centre of the symbol was a black stone stand on which rested and black, leather bound book.

It was then that Naruto saw Hidan.

Just like the memories he had resaved from his clones he had slicked back silver hair, red eyes and he was dressed in a black robe with red lining, with the front left open to show of his heavily scared chest. He could also see a large, three bladed red scythe strapped to his back with a metal cable attached to the bottom and disappearing into his left sleeve.

At the sound of two people landing on the roof behind him, Naruto frowned and turned to look at Batman and Batgirl, both returning his frown as they walked over to him. Both had yet to see what was inside the building as they only had eyes for him, and from the looks they were throwing at his back, his katana.

"I told you stay out of my way, get lost."

"Why do you have a Katana on your back?"

Before he could answer Batgirl had made her way over to the skylight and peered down to see what he was looking at, only to have the blondes hand cover her mouth to silence the involuntary scream at the sight of all the dead bodies.

"Shut the hell up before you give away my possession."

Resisting the sudden need to puke at the sight below them, Batman frowned and turned to look at the blonde with cold eyes, his hand on his belt ready to pull out a batarang if needed.

"What is going on here?"

Realizing that he wasn't going to get rid of them Naruto let out an annoyed sigh, before turning to look at the two masked heroes with a frown.

"Long story short, evil book that can influence most people that gets too close, evil cult that worship a god of blood and chaos using the book to give them powers who are technically dead and have been for a while and an evil priest that can't die unless the book is sealed away."

"This is why you're in Gotham, to stop them?"

"No, I'm just here for the book, the sooner it's locked away the better."

Frowning at his words, though understanding what he meant, Batman nodded his head before moving back to look down at the church, seeing who he guessed was the priest speaking to the others in the room.

"So what are we going to do?"

"We are not doing anything, I'm going to go and seal the book before it dose any more harm then go back to Jump city. You are going to go away and let me get on with it."

"What will happen to the cult when you seal the book? At least if we are here we can arrest them after you get it."

"Didn't you listen to what I just said? They are all dead! They tied their lives to the book and are living off of its power, the moment I seal the book they will die again."

Getting a horrified look on her face at his words, Batgirl stepped forward and grabbed him by the collar.

"That's murder!"

Losing his temper, Naruto pushed the red headed teen away from him, putting more strength behind it then needed and sending her skidding across the roof. Both heroes watched in surprise as the teen's right eye changed from shy blue to blood red and the air seemed to get heavier for a moment. But before anything else could happen he grabbed the side of his head and shook it, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself down before looking back at them.

"Its not murder if they are already dead."

Nothing was said for a moment as the two heroes examined the strange blonde; Batman sent another glance into the church before locking eyes with him again.

"You said that the book only affects most people, so I'm assuming you are immune. How close would we be able to get before it can get in our heads?"

Frowning at where this was going, Naruto thought about it for a moment before answering.

"As long as you stay out of the symbol around it you should be fine."

"Then we will hold back the worshipers while you get the book. No arguments. After this is over you will leave and I will contact the Commissioner and explain what has happened, I will keep your name out of it."

"Fine, but a warning to the both of you, don't let them get any of your blood."

He wasn't happy, but the longer he spent arguing with them the longer the book was in use. Deciding that they had talked enough, Naruto slowly opened the skylight, being carful not to make any sound, and started crawling along the rafters over the heads of the Jashinists. He could both hear and feel his temporary helpers following him, and every time he heard something it made him cringe before reminding himself that his hearing was better then normal peoples.

They split up shortly after entering, Batgirl moving so she would drop in front of the door to ensure that none escaped, while Batman set himself right above the men sat on the benches. When he got to the rafter directly above the book, Naruto pulled the mask up to cover the lower part of his face, shifted position so that he was hanging upside down right above Hidan's head, and after taking a deep breath let himself drop.

As he fell Naruto heard the startled yells of the men on the benches, several of who had just been knocked out by Batman, and the moment he was in rang the blonde Ex-nin turned in the air, drew the katana from his back and in one clean swing cut the silver priests head from his shoulders.

He could actually hear the shocked gasp from across the room from Batgirl at his action, but before he could register it fully he was forced jump back to avoid a swipe from the three bladed scythe as the headless body of Hidan started swinging it randomly, desperate to hit him. The moment he had gotten his distance the body bent down and picked up its head before placing it back on his shoulders. Within seconds the skin had knitted itself back together, and the moment his eyes landed on him, Naruto was forced to dodge even more wild swings as the clearly insane man screamed at him.

"You mother fucking asshole! You just cut of my fucking head! What the hell is wrong with you! Hold still while I sacrifice you to Lord Jashin you ass clown!"

Darting in after a wide swing that was aimed at his head, Naruto slashed Hidan across the stomach, but it healed without even bleeding. Not giving the insane priest time to react he sent a blast of wind into his free hand and pressed it into his opponents chests, sending him flying backward. The moment Hidan's back hit the wall Naruto through his katana, stabbing it through his chest and pinning him in place, his feet dangling several feet off the floor, before throwing a kunai and severing the cord that connected him to the large red scythe which now lay on the floor at his feet.

Unseen to the others in the room the seals on the blondes back started flashing, before ending on the seal for 'Lightening'. Without a word Naruto thrust his right arm forward, a small ball of electricity forming in his palm, before it burst into a stream connecting his hand to the handle of his Kanata. The moment the lightening connected Hidan started convulsing, sparks jumping all over his body and a scream tearing its way out of his throat.

With his right hand still outstretched, the blonde ex-nin pulled out a kunai with a seal wrapped around the handle and stabbed it into the ground at his feet, before quickly grabbing it with his right hand. The ball moved from his palm to rest in the hole at the end of the kunai, the stream of lightening never breaking.

Standing up straight, brushing off imaginary dust from his shoulders, Naruto turned around to look at the others in the room. Batman had made short work of the cloaked cultists, with Batgirl taking care of the few that had tried to run away in the chaos. They were sitting in a group on the floor, glaring at all three of them, but even though their hands were free none made a move to attack.

Nodding to himself Naruto rolled up his arm, revealing a storage seal on his forearm and with a quick flare of chakra unsealed a wooden box just the right size to hold the Book of Jashin. Stepping forward, idly taking note of the fact that the words in the book were written in blood instead of ink, he quickly closed the book and slipped it inside the box in one fluid movement.

Even though it had only been open for a second, Batman saw that the inside of the box was lined with mirrors.

The second the lid closed all the cultists screamed as their bodies convulsing for a moment, before they all falling completely still. From the few faces that they were able to see because of their hoods slipping off, Batman and Batgirl watched they started to rabidly decompose. When it stopped some seemed to be little more then goo covered bones, while others were only slightly green.

But it was when they turned to look at the still pinned Hidan, though the lightening stream had stopped moments before. Just like the others his body was rapidly decomposing, but unlike them the sliver haired man was still conscious, his mouth open in a soundless scream as his skin rotted away and his hair fell out. He was still moving when he was nothing but bones and goo, but it didn't stop their as his bones turned to dust, leaving Narutos katana sticking in the wall with the scythe on the floor next to a pile of dust.

"Well, that was interesting."

Turing to look at the blonde teen in shock, the box suddenly having disappeared into fine air, Barbara walked over and stood in front of him for a moment without saying a word. Then almost broke her hand punching him in the face, what was he made of!

"You just watched all of these people rot away and all you can say is 'interesting'!"

Raising an eyebrow at the red headed crime fighter as she shook her now bruised hand, Naruto walked over to his katana and pulled it out of the wall.

"Pretty much, I've never seen a body rot away that fast before, it's also an interesting reaction to the power of the book, which was keeping them all alive, being cut off from their bodies. I was actually expecting them to explode."

He didn't see the horrified look that crossed her face at his words because he was bending down to pick up the scythe that Hidan had been using. He swung it around for a moment, checked its balance, before frowning and sealing away.

"What the hell is wrong with you, don't you feel anything about what just happened?"

"No"

Before she could try and hit him again, Barbara felt Bruce place his hand on her shoulder and when she turned to him he shook his head before stepping forward.

"Look at me"

Shrugging his shoulders, he turned to the older man and Bruce spent about a minute examining his facial expressions, before nodding his head. Raising an eyebrow, Naruto shrugged his shoulders and took one last look around the room before turning back to the two heroes. He pulled out a card from his pocket and threw it to Bruce, who caught it with one hand and looked down to see a number on it.

"As far as anyone else is concerned Hidan was a crazy priest and brought these people back to life as zombies, but he and they all turned into this when you destroyed the book by burning it. I was never here. If you ever come across something like this again call me on that number."

Before they could comment Naruto disappeared into a swirl of leaves.

XXX

It took five hours for the scene to be processed after Batman had called Commissioner Gordon. Several of the crime scene detectives had needed to leave the room the moment they saw all the bodies of both the cultist and their victims. No one questioned their story about what had happened and after talking to Gordon they both returned to the Batcave.

The moment they were in Barbara took off her mask, her face slightly pale now that it was over and the events of the night hit her. She didn't even acknowledge Alfred as she passed him, just sat on her chair in front of the large computer and thought about what had happened. When he saw the look his oldest friend was sending him, Bruce pulled out a memory stick from his pocket and placed it in a slot.

While he was in the rafters of the 'church' Bruce had planted a camera overlooking the entire room. He watched both the video as it came on the screen and Alfred at the same time, knowing that his butler had severed in the army in his youth and had seen a lot of things, his input was important, especially when it came to Naruto Uzumaki.

When the video had run through, he paused it and enlarged the image of the blonde teen's masked face, before turning to Alfred and waiting for his assessment.

"Who is that young man, Master Bruce, and how old is he?"

"His name is Naruto Uzumaki, and he's sixteen."

Nodding his head, the elderly butler turned to look at the two crime fighters with a mixture of sadness and worry.

"From what I have seen from the video, that boy is without a doubt a child solider. He was quick and efficient, no move was wasted and most importantly he was completely unaffected by what was happening around him. May I see the card he gave you?"

Handing over the card Bruce watched as Alfred spent about two minutes studding it from every angle before nodding his head.

"As I thought, this number is probably a direct line he uses for dealing with cases like the one you just encountered, though I am not sure what this marking is on the back of the card."

When he got the card back Bruce looked at the back of the card to see a strange design covering it, before scanning it into his computer to run a search on it. Leaving it to do the search, Bruce took a moment to think about everything that he had seen before turn back to the computer and calling Robin. When they saw what he was doing Barbara quickly put her mask back on while Alfred walked to the side so he would be out of the cameras range.

Unlike the last time they had called him, Robin wasn't surprised to see them.

"What is it now Bruce?"

"Call your teammate, Raven, I need to ask her a few questions about Naruto."

Frowning, the boy wonder pulled out his communicator and did as asked, and when he was done turned back to the screen with the frown still in place.

"She isn't going to tell you anything, believe me, and if you press to hard she'll just tell you to fuck off."

Nodding in understanding, the three sat in silence as they waited for the dark Titan to arrive.

"This better be good Robin, because of your new training plan I haven't being able to meditate for two weeks, my powers are on a hairline trigger."

When she came into view on the screen both Bruce and Barbara saw the large frown on the grey skinned teens face. They also didn't miss the fact that when she turned to look at them her eyes narrowed and a lamb in the background exploded.

"What did he do now?"

Leaning forward and resting his chin on his laced fingers, the dark knight decided to get straight to the point.

"How much do you know about Naruto's past?"

"Enough"

"Are you aware that he is a trained solider?"

"..."

Her silence answered the question, but before he could ask his next one they were interrupted by Robin, who had turned to his friend with a frown on his face.

"You knew this and didn't tell anyone?"

"...It wasn't for me to tell."

Although he didn't look happy about it, Robin nodded his head and let them talk, a small frown on his lips.

"What can you tell me about a book, I'm sure I don't need to go into more detail?"

"Only what Naruto told us, that knowledge is power and when that power is written down it creates problems. The books he has been collecting are books that contain ancient spells that could be dangerous in the wrong hands; some of them are even self-aware and can control people's minds to make them use them. Naruto is one of the few people that can't actually use them because he can't use magic."

"If they are so dangerous, why not destroy them."

This time it was Robin who answered the question.

"We ask him that to when we first found out. Apparently they would just 'reform' somewhere else in the world, that's why he collects them and locks them up."

Taking a moment to think over what they had told him, Bruce nodded before looking back at them with a serious look in his eyes.

"I may be in contact again at a later date, but until then goodbye."

Cutting the connection, Bruce let out a long sigh before pulling his mask off and rubbing the back of his neck to get the stiffness out.

"Are you going to talk to the League about this? If these books are as dangerous as they say they should be under its protection."

Turning to look at Barbara out of the corner of his eye, Bruce frowned as he thought over what she said.

"I am going to tell them, but I don't agree that they should be under the Leagues protection. If he is one of the only people in the world that can't use or be used by them then he is the best qualified to protect them."

Naruto left Gotham the day after collecting the book, making sure that everything was going well with his 'official' reason for being. The project was going well and they already had homeless people coming from all over the city signing up.

After another five hour drive back to Jump city he just wanted to lock the book in the Vault and get some sleep, but the moment he walked into his store Naruto knew it wasn't going to be that easy. The reason for this was that their were about ten identical teens in red jumpsuits walking around the shelves putting books in their place, and a blue skinned boy with red eyes and black cloak stood behind the counter serving customers.

Letting out a deep sigh, the blonde teen turned to his left to find Gaara stood next to him with his usual blank expression on his face.

"Do I even want to know?"
