Weeks passed and I had convinced my mom to let me decorate the babies' room, locking the door while Henry and I worked and keeping it locked when we weren't in there. She gave me her credit card to use but I knew that she could see what I purchased so I paid for everything with my own money, it was just sitting in my bank account collecting dust anyway.
Countless nights we stayed up putting together the cribs, swing sets, painting the room, and so much more. She was 8 months pregnant and we finally finished. The room was a mellow yellow color, pink and blue cribs, a rocking chair, changing table, two dressers, I even went on and bought the car seats and stroller.
There were surprisingly a lot of things for twins, I wasn't complaining though because it would make it easier on my parents. Everything was perfect, the finishing touch were the two mobiles Henry put over the cribs. They had these crystal horses on them, "She's going to cry, you know that right?" I smiled at him.
Truth was she would've cried anyway, her mood swings had gotten worse in the last month but we just sucked it up, we knew soon enough they would stop.
He nodded, "I know. But they are going to love them, so that's all that matters." I ruffled his hair as we left and locked the door behind us. "Mom? Dad?" I called out as we went downstairs, only to see them sitting on the couch watching tv, in each other's embraced, while my mom was eating marshmallows.
I cocked my head to the side, "I thought you didn't like marshmallows." She ate another, "I don't but this baby loves them. Hurry up and get out of me, please?" She calmly confessed. Henry and I snickered, "Might want to be careful, you don't want it to kick you." She shot a dirty look at us, "Make me mad enough and I'll sleep in your bed with you tonight."
Our eyes widened, "You win. We'll keep quiet." Our dad told us how bad of a sleeper she had become. Numerous nights she had kicked him out of bed and sprawled her body across the bed so that he couldn't get back in it.
It wasn't on purpose but she was just trying to be comfortable, unfortunately for my dad, he would have to spend the rest of his night on the couch but he never complained. He always made sure that her comfort was put before his, I couldn't help but admire how much they loved one another, it was truly something spectacular to watch.
"The nursery is done guys…" I said softly and their attention quickly switched from the tv to me. They smiled, "Really honey?" My dad asked and Henry and I shook our heads yes.
"Oh I can't wait to see what you've been doing in there all these months." My mom struggled to stand up, her belly was round like a basketball. My dad helped her up, "I don't see how one baby can stretch my belly out like this."
She gently rubbed her hand across her stomach as we walked back upstairs. I stopped in front of the room and turned to them, "Now before we show you, promise me if you find out something you don't like, you won't go all crazy on me?" She furrowed her brow, "Why would I have a reason to do that? Is there something you're not telling me?"
I sighed, "You'll figure it out soon enough." I opened the door and led them inside. They marveled at everything, my mom covered her mouth with her hands as the tears filled her eyes, making them shine, "You two did all of this? Wait…why are there two cribs?" We just stayed silent and smiled, "Oh my gosh…we're having twins! Daniel! Twins?" She turned to him and he was just as confused as she was. "But Fiona I thought you told me it was a girl?"
I nodded, "Yes, it is a girl. And a boy. When I went to check if they were okay, I felt two heartbeats but I didn't want you guys to know because I didn't want to excite mom. Then I got the idea to tell you guys like this, I hope you like it." They both walked over to us crying, and pulled us into a hug, "We have the sweetest kids in the world."
She cried out and he smiled, "Yes we do. And now we're going to have two more. Thank you guys so much for doing this." "No problem dad, we were happy to help." Henry said as we all separated. My mom took another look around, "Wait a minute. I don't remember seeing all this stuff charged to my bank account, how did you pay for this?"
I gave a fake cough and mumbled, "I paid for it…" She took a step closer to me and gave that motherly stare and stern tone, "What was that dear?" I sighed deeply, "I paid for it."
She gasped, "Fiona! This is thousands of dollars worth of stuff! I appreciate the thought but honey, that's your hard earned money, I'm going to go transfer the money back into your account right now." She scolded before kissing Henry and I, and she went back downstairs into her office.
"That is one stubborn lady." I shook my head laughing. "Yeah, and you're just like her." My dad mocked before leaving the room. I glared at him, "Well that went well." Henry smirked and danced off to his room. I took one last look at the room before turning the light off and going to my room to read.
"How does Timothy Daniel Mills sound for our little guy?" My mom asked, caressing her stomach. We could tell she was ready to pop, "Sounds perfect." my dad answered with a loving smile. "And Tabitha Marie Mills for our little girl." he softly touched her stomach too.
"Oh Daniel you picked the perfect name too." I was sitting on the couch across from them texting on my phone while Henry was fully engaged in his zombie game. "Die zombie, DIE!" His eyes were wide and an evil smirk was on his face. I looked up at him with a puzzled expression, only to look over at my mom who had a horrified expression on her face. I couldn't do anything but laugh, "Henry, is that one of the games you got for christmas?!"
She didn't seem to like what the game was making him say, his eyes never left the game, "Yeah, I think so. I'm not sure. One sec mom I'm about to stab this zombie in the face." That was the needle the broke the camel's back, after rocking from side to side, which only caused me to laugh even more, she got up and took Henry's game, "Okay, that's enough of that. I'm not raising any killers in this house."
He fell on his knees, "Mom please! I was on the last level!" he pleaded but she just went and sat back down. At this point I was on the floor, trying to catch my breath from laughing, "And what do you find so funny?" I immediately stopped and looked up at her, "Oh nothing." I sat back on the couch and went to texting, she glared at me but eventually went back to watching tv. "Aww!" I giggled at my phone. "What are you aw'ing at Fiona?"
I had this cheesy smile on my face and my eyes were glued to my phone, "He's just so sexy. OMG!" My dad's eyes widened, "Who is so sexy!?" They both asked in unison, "Did you guys just hear yourselves? That was weird." I smirked. "Don't change the subject. Now who is so sexy?" I put my phone in my jacket pocket, "Just this guy Ruby sent me a picture of." She shook her head, "Give me your phone." Henry laughed, "Ha! That's what you get." I gave her the puppy dog eyes, "I'm sorry mom, I put it away. I won't text anymore."
Before I knew it she had my phone in her hand, she had used magic to get it, "No. Fair." I said as I sunk deeper into the couch and silently sulked, pulling my hood over my head to hang over my face.
I heard her giggling over the sound of me trying to ignore everything only to glance at her and see her smiling at me, "Mommy loves her babies" she said with a kissy face. "Oh God..." I muttered and gave a sarcastic smile, "Your babies love you too." I stretched out on the couch and Henry snuggled up under me. I gave him a warm smile as we both stared blankly at the tv.
Henry and I had fallen asleep on the couch when we were startled by screaming. We both jumped up and I ended up on the floor, still groggy, I looked around trying to figure out what was going on. "What happened? Who screamed?!" I shouted and I could hear my mom breathing fast.
I rubbed my eyes and saw her standing in the middle of the living room in a puddle, "Mom...did you have an accident. I know you're pregnant but come on, tell someone-" "My water just broke!" I was interrupted by this startling news, I quickly jumped to my feet and had Henry go grab the pre-made overnight bag while I took her to the car. On the way there my dad called the hospital and let them know we were on the way.
"Daniel, oh my sweet Daniel..." She said through her breathing, he just nodded, "Yes dear?" She grabbed his hand tightly and he yelled a little, "You did this to me! Again!" She screamed and then another contraction hit but I was focused on getting us to the hospital. Henry was up front with me and he kept looking in the backseat at them, puzzled as to what child birth was really about. "I know but honey, just think of the beautiful children we created." he was trying to soothe her but alas his attempt failed. "Then you could have offered to carry them for nine months and give birth! I wouldn't have objected. AGH DAMNIT! Why twins?!"
From the sound of her cussing I could tell the contractions were getting closer together, luckily we had just pulled up at the emergency room. Two male nurses ran out to the car and helped her into a wheel chair and wheeled her off. We just sat in the waiting room, looking at each other and trying to pass the time. Dr. Whale walked over to us and said my mom wanted all of us in the room, my eyes widened, "Tell her that's okay, I'd prefer to stay out here, where it's safe..." I smiled until I heard my mom's voice, "Fiona! Get in here now!"
That smile quickly faded as I slowly walked into the room where my mom was propped up, with an uncomfortable look on her face, "Mom you're so sweaty. Want me to get them to turn up the A/C?" She gave me the death glare and I just shrugged as I sat in the chair next to the window, Henry followed and sat on my lap, "This is going to be traumatizing isn't it?" He whispered to me.
"Oh you have no idea." I answered. My dad was at her side even though she had his hand in a tight grip. Another doctor came in the room and told her it was time to push, Henry looked back at me, "Wait, where's she going to push from?" I covered his eyes, "Think of your zombie game kid, you don't need to see this." Then came the ear-piercing screams, it sounded like the worst pain imaginable and the look on my mom's face told me I was nowhere near ready to have a baby. Then something magical happened, there was a crying noise heard through her screaming and then we heard, "It's a girl!"
Then the screaming turned into crying and a little laughter, I took my hands off Henry's eyes so he could see our little sister, "Tabitha Marie- OH MY GOSH!" My mom started screaming again and I covered the kid's eyes again, "Push Regina! One more, that's it! Come on, you can do it! And it's a little boy!" Even though I had been emotionally scarred, there were tears of joy in my eyes when I saw my parents holding the babies. "So that's where babies come from? The hospital?" Henry raised his eyebrow. I chuckled, "Uh, yeah. That's kind of what happens, in a nutshell..."
I led him over to where everyone was and we looked at the babies, "They're so precious. Little Timothy and Tabitha." My mom cooed before kissing their heads as tears fell from her eyes. This was emotional for everyone but Henry was intrigued by the little angels, he let Timmy grab his finger, "Hey little guy, I'm your big brother. I'll protect you and Tabitha no matter what. And I'll teach you guys everything."
I ruffled his hair and my mom gave him a kiss. My dad just smiled as he looked at his family, "Would you like to hold your son?" My mom asked him and he couldn't even speak, he just nodded as he took him from her arms, "Oh Regina. He has your eyes. You've made me the happiest man who ever lived. Four beautiful kids, there's nothing a man wants more than a family."
He leaned down and they shared a passionate kiss, "Tabitha has your smile. I told you I love you more than anything, especially if I was crazy enough to give birth to three of these kids." She laughed, "Fiona, do you want to hold your sister?" My head shot up at the mention of my name, "My sister. I never thought I'd ever say that. Sure, I'll hold the little cutie." I picked her up and she was so light, so fragile yet so beautiful.
Her eyes were closed but she smiled at me and I could feel my eyes water, "Hey Tabby. I'm your big sister. I'm gonna teach you how to get boys and how to be sneaky so mom and dad won't catch you." I laughed through the tears. "I love you so much already and you haven't even been here that long. You and Timmy are loved more than you'll ever know, you got the best parents in the world."
