I sat, bored, as Ryuzaki spoke to Light at the cafe. I didn't think I'd be any help, so I sat quietly, are, and listened in on their conversation.
Blah blah.
Deduction rate lowers by 40%.
Blah blah.
Then they finally finally reached the point of the coversation. Kira.
"I want proof you're L," Light said firmly, "I won't fully accept your claim without proof."
"I wanted to test your deduction skills with some evidence from the Kira case anyways." Ryuzaki reached for his back pocket.
Light seemed to sit up a little straighter, "Sure," he replied.
Ryuzaki took out the three messages Kira had sent him through his victims.
"These are messages Kira has sent me. Can you please deduce what he was trying to say?"
Light took the three cards and have them a long look.
"Well, if you were to look at the numbers in the back of the cards and arrange them," Light said arranging the cards as a visual example, "and you were to read the top line, it would read, 'L, did you know that shinigami only eat apples?'"
"Wrong," Ryuzaki stated as if it were obvious.
Light looked surprised for a moment, before laughing, "How could I be wrong? My theory is perfect."
"Well, if you were smart enough, you would've deduced that Kira sent me four messages, not just three." I saw Light's eyebrow twitch, just slightly.
I nudged Ryuzaki with my elbow, pointing out his small action. He gave a small nod indicating he had also noticed.
"Kira hates to lose." He muttered quietly to me.
Sensing the tension in the air, Light gave a quick laugh, "Well then Ryuzaki, you got me." He took a sip of his tea ending the conversation.
"Hey, Light," Ryuzaki began after taking a sip of tea, "would you like to help out with the Kira case?"
Light cocked his eyebrow, "I do have some interest in the Kira case, but I do not wish to be killed by Kira." He continued, "And besides, I'm not yet fully convinced of your identity yet. But of course, if you're the real L, you should be able to easily prove it."
"How would you like me to prove it?"
"For example, you could ask my father or one of the others in your team to identify you," Light said, "then I'll be convinced."
I clenched my teeth nervously. He was awfully smart, which would be useful in the investigation, unless he was actually Kira.
Just then Ryuzaki and Light's phones rung in unison.
"Hello?"
"Ryuzaki! Something terrible has happened"
"Light! Your dad..."
Their faces both paled and they both began getting up.
"What's wrong?" I asked, worried.
"I'll explain in the car." Ryuzaki said as he took my hand and walked out toward the car.
