Naruto was woken up with a soft knock on the door. He cracked an eye open and tried to adjust his vision to the bright light flooding in from the windows. It was morning already, and a little too early for a visitor.
There was another soft knock and Naruto pushed himself out of bed. He glanced at the table where Miko-san had laid last night's dinner for him. He vaguely remembered her waking him up and telling him that dinner was served, but he had drifted back to sleep again.
He made himself look a little more presentable and called out for the person to come in.
'Good morning, Naruto-kun.' Deidera entered looking very cheerful. A group of maids followed him carrying trays with clothes and jewellery.
'Deidera-san.' Naruto felt fully awake.
'Let's get you ready, first.' Deidera said as he started pushing Naruto towards the private bath. 'Then we'll join everyone for breakfast, head to the shrine for blessings and then meet the people.'
'The people?' Naruto asked as they entered the bath.
'People in town.' Deidera nodded as the maids started stripping Naruto out of his clothes. Naruto blushed and almost screamed as a maid hurriedly stripped him of his last layer of clothing, but Deidera quickly wrapped him in a large towel and guided him into the bath.
'You just need to smile and wave.' Deidera said lowering Naruto into the water. The maids immediately started to wash him.
Naruto was in a daze and he had no idea what was going on.
'Kiss a few babies and shake hands with a few children.' Deidera continued to explain.' But I doubt Itachi will let you out of your carriage, so you'll just have to smile and wave at the people.'
'Are we going outside the palace?' Naruto asked feeling a little excited.
'Sasuke didn't tell you?' Deidera paused in his actions and Naruto shook his head.
'I knew this boy wasn't listening to me.' Deidera sighed.
'Tell me what, Deidera-san?' Naruto asked as he was helped out of the bath and wrapped in a warm fluffy towel.
They walked back into the room and started drying him off.
'You need to meet the citizens, Naruto.' Deidera smiled as he helped dry his hair. 'As the prince's consort you need to greet your people.'
My people?
Naruto looked at Deidera with wide eyes.
'You're not just Uchiha Sasuke's bride, Naruto-kun,' Deidera placed a hand on his shoulder. 'You're married to the prince of the land of wind. You're now a member of the royal family. People will look up to you for guidance and support from now on.'
Naruto looked at Deidera's reflection in the mirror. He did not feel prepared for this.
'Don't worry.' Deidera rubbed Naruto's back in a soothing manner. 'You just need to be nice and polite and leave everything to Sasuke for the time being. He'll handle it.'
Naruto smiled nervously and nodded. He didn't like being so dependent on the prince all the time, but there really was no helping it. Everything, from the people to the traditions, was new to him and it didn't help that he knew very little about the Uchiha's.
They dressed him up in heavy white robes very similar to the one he wore for the wedding. It had the Uchiha emblem on the back and the train was shorter than the previous one. They put a veil on his head, but didn't cover his face, and pinned it on top with a large golden broche, which was also an Uchiha emblem. Naruto looked at it carefully and noticed that the emblem look slightly different to the ones he had seen.
'This is Sasuke's crest.' Deidera explained, noticing Naruto look at it intently. 'Every prince in the royal family is given a personal emblem, which represents them and their family later on. Most of the time they're passed down from one family member to another. This one…'
Deidera pulled out a golden badge from inside his robe. It was also a fan like the Uchiha emblem, but unlike the normal plain fan, this fan had three little commas along a circle engraved in the middle. Naruto's eyes widened in recognition.
The Uchiha sharingan.
'This is the king's crest.' Deidera said, looking at it fondly. 'This one is passed down from the king to his eldest son, who will pass it on to his eldest and so on.' He put it back in his robe.
'Sasuke's crest is passed down to him from the previous prince.' Deidera said as he helped Naruto put his obi. 'And every prince makes a small change in the crest before passing it down to the next generation.'
Naruto looked at the crest on his head again. Sasuke's crest also looked like the normal Uchiha emblem, but in place of the sharingan in king's crest, it had a sun.
'Sasuke hasn't made any changes yet.' Deidera said, adjusting the broche on Naruto's head. 'He keeps saying that its not yet time. He's already married, I don't know what he's waiting for.' He chuckled and shook his head.
'So the crest Deidera-san has is his majesty's?' Naruto asked turning around to face Deidera.
Deidera opened his mouth to reply and stopped. He quickly tried again, 'Yes, it is.' He nodded. 'I was supposed to be returning it to him, but I completely forgot. He keeps leaving it everywhere.' He said, unnaturally fast. 'Anyway, you're ready. Shall we head to the dining hall?'
Naruto had barely managed to nod in agreement before he was already being pushed towards the door.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Sasuke looked around once more to check if everything was fine. He stood at the bottom of the large stairs that led to the main entrance of the palace. He had given the entire responsibility to Lee, who seemed to have made sure that the security was impenetrable.
Two large Uchiha carriages waited in front of him, decorated and polished. The carriage had no roof, so Sasuke had made sure that they had the anbus with them The shinobis were already mounted on their horses, half of them in front of the carriage and the rest of them behind it, ready to follow.
'Taichou.' Sasuke turned around to find an excited looking Lee running towards him with an equally excited looking Gai following close behind.
'This is a very important day, Sasuke.' Gai slapped him on his back, 'Why the frown?'
Sasuke glared at him and stepped away. This person had no sense of personal space.
'Gai-sensei, I think taichou is not happy about everyone getting to see his bride.' Lee helpfully supplied.
'That's pretty stingy of you Sasuke.' Gai's laughter boomed through his eardrums. 'But with a bride like yours any Uchiha would behave like this.'
Sasuke stepped back to avoid any more damage to his eardrums. 'Are we ready?' he asked, ignoring their comments.
'Of course.' Gai reached out and slapped his back again. 'Lee and I have been here since three in the morning, taking laps around the palace backwards, isn't that so Lee?'
'Yes, Gai-sensei.' Lee straightened up. 'We completed 50 laps, but we still have 950 left. You should join us Taichou.'
'No, thank you Lee.' Sasuke said, resisting the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose. 'We need to be ready to head out in exactly five minutes. Have you tightened the security in the town centre?'
'Yes, Taichou.' Lee nodded dramatically. 'Everything is prepared. The only thing left now is for the bride to…'
Lee's stopped in midsentence as he looked behind Sasuke, his expression suddenly turning dreamy. 'Wow.' He whispered.
Sasuke turned around to see what it was and stopped at the sight before him. He watched in awe as his bride, dressed in complete white robes, made his way down the stairs guided by Iruka and Deidera. His heart was suddenly filled to the brim with a pleasant feeling. He didn't know what the feeling was but he knew he liked feeling this way.
Fixed on the spot, Sasuke couldn't tear his eyes away as Naruto slowly walked down the stairs with his head bowed down and stood in front of him. He then slowly lifted his head and looked up at him. Sasuke sucked his breath in as those incredibly blue eyes looked into his shyly. Never in his life would he have thought that he would come across a beauty that would exceed beyond his imagination, and never did he think it would have such an effect on him.
Something on Naruto's head caught his eye. It was his crest. His chest swelled with pride and he felt very pleased as it reminded him that the beauty before him belonged to him.
And yet, at the same time, this feeling of pride and content disgusted him. Naruto was not an object. He shouldn't be feeling this way. Did he not decide that he would let his bride choose? There was no difference between him and Madara otherwise.
'Will you take long, Otouto?' Sasuke was pulled out his thoughts as Itachi chuckled next to him. He hadn't noticed Itachi walking up to him.
Naruto blushed prettily and looked down at his feet as Deidera and Iruka chuckled along.
Sasuke felt his face heat up but ignored them. He offered his hand to Naruto who gently held it and made their way to the carriage. After helping Naruto in, Sasuke stepped into the carriage himself. Iruka and Deidera got into the other carriage. As per tradition, the king stayed back to welcome the newly weds back into the palace.
Sasuke gave the signal and Lee led the shinobis towards the palace gates. The carriages slowly followed and Sasuke felt Naruto fidget next to him. His bride was seated at the edge of the seat and looked very excited. He smirked. He looked very cute.
As they slowly approached the gigantic gates, they could hear clapping and cheers of the citizens beyond the palace walls. They rode past the gates and a huge cheer greeted them. Sasuke waved at the massive number of people that were crowded on either side of the streets. The cheer got louder as Naruto shyly smiled and waved at the crowd.
He could hear people calling him and congratulating him among the loud cheers, and he responded with a polite nod and a wave. He smirked proudly as he noticed that Naruto was doing the same and handling it very well. Probably even better than him as the crowd on his bride's side cheered louder and waved excitedly back at them.
They kept riding through the excited crowd, waving and smiling until they finally reached the town center. The carriage took a round around the large fountain in the center, the crowd applauding and congratulating them the entire time. They could hardly make out what they people were saying through the loud cheers, so they continued to wave and smile at everyone.
The ride didn't take too long, and they found themselves nearing the palace gates again.
'We will stop in front of the gates for a while.' Sasuke leaned in and said, and Naruto nodded.
They finally approached the gates and the carriage gradually came to a halt. The crowd became louder as though anticipating this moment. Sasuke stood up and turned around to face the crowd. He offered his hand to Naruto, who took it and did the same.
They stood in front of the crowd and waved at them. The crowed cheered even louder waving back at them. They continued to wave for a while until Sasuke felt that it was enough. He leaned in to tell Naruto to sit, when suddenly a really loud voice from the crowd shouted, 'Kiss!'
He pretended he didn't hear it and leaned in again when suddenly the entire crowd joined the man. 'Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!'
Sasuke straightened up to explain that he wasn't leaning in to kiss, but the crowd was too loud and kept shouting excitedly. 'Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!'
Sasuke turned to look at Naruto who had gone bright red and was trying to make himself look as small as possible. He was obviously not going to kiss Naruto in front of so many people. His bride would die of embarrassment.
He turned to face the crowd again and raised his hand demanding silence, but the crowd was too excited and didn't stop. He looked over at Deidera who was standing behind them with Iruka, but all he got was a shrug and giggle from both of them.
He raised his hand again, but this time to signal Lee when suddenly he felt slim hands wrap themselves around his arm. He didn't have the time to register what was happening as he felt himself being gently pulled down and felt soft lips press lightly on his cheek.
His mind went blank. The lips retreated quickly and his arms were free just as fast but he stayed in that position until it slowly started to sink in they were his brides lips. Naruto had just kissed him.
The crowd cheered loudly and whistled, some even threw their hats in the air. Not wanting to make a fool out of himself, Sasuke forced himself out of his shocked stupor and straightened up. He cleared his throat and signaled Lee to start heading back. He turned around and sat back down in the carriage, resisting the urge to touch the cheek where his bride has kissed him.
They slowly rode back in through the gates, the crowd's cheers getting further away as they did so. The carriage carried them right up to the main entrance of the palace and stopped.
Sasuke got down first and held his hand out for Naruto, avoiding any sort of eye contact with him. He wasn't sure why, but he just could bring himself to look at bride. He wasn't sure how he was expected to behave right now.
He had never been so conscious of someone's touch as he was right this moment as Naruto placed his tiny hand on his. So light was the touch, but it sent tingles right through his entire body. He helped Naruto down and felt a small sense of disappointment when Naruto let go.
'Welcome back, Naruto-kun.' Itachi was waiting for them at the entrance with the rest of the staff and guards. 'How did you like the land of wind?'
'Very friendly, your majesty.' Naruto said very softly. Sasuke noticed there was a slight tremble in his voice and Itachi seemed to have noticed it too.
'Did something happen?' He asked. The air around them suddenly grew cold.
'Oh it's nothing.' Deidera giggled as he approached them with Iruka, who was giggling along with him. 'Naruto-kun's overwhelmed seeing how welcomed he is in the land of wind.'
'I see.' Itachi nodded. 'I hope you had a good ride Iruka-san.'
'I did, itachi-sama, thank you.' Iruka smiled at him brightly. 'It was a lovely ride.'
'Shall we head to the royal dining hall?' Itachi said offering Naruto his arm. 'They're all waiting for us there.'
Naruto nodded shyly and took the offered arm. Sasuke felt a wave of relief wash over him as they all left following Itachi into the palace.
'Your bride has quite the guts, eh Sasuke?' Gai's voice boomed from a distance.
Sasuke felt his face heat up and pretended to not have heard it as he hurriedly walked into the palace.
He needed to see Kakashi. Whether he liked to admit it or not, he did depend on Kakashi a lot.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
There were quite a few people waiting for them in the dining hall, all seated around a large round table. All stood up as they entered the hall and waited for them to be seated.
'Please be seated.' Itachi said and everyone sat down.
Naruto silently took a seat next to Itachi. He was still shaking and he didn't know if it was out of nervousness or fear that he might've upset the prince with his bold move. He had kissed the prince. KISSED! He was shocked himself. What was he thinking?
He would've been happy with any kind of reaction from the prince. Disgust, anger, anything, but the prince hadn't said a word or showed any signs of disgust or approval. He had not reacted at all.
It broke his heart a little, and he wasn't sure why.
'You go, Naruto-kun.' Deidera nudged him out of his pensive state. 'Sasuke must be on cloud nine right now.' He giggled.
'Or shocked.' Itachi chuckled as he took his glass of wine. Naruto blushed hard.
'Why am I not surprised?' Deidera looked at Itachi. 'You sent one of your crows after them.'
'To watch over them.' Itachi nodded and took a sip of his wine. 'This is good wine.'
'I'm so happy you made the first move, Naruto-kun.' Deidera hugged him tightly. 'Sasuke should get the message now. I think it'll give him the boost he needs, no?'
Naruto opened his mouth to say something but was pulled into another tight hug by Deidera.
'Oh, we should book you two a holiday. A honeymoon, like they do in the foreign lands.'
'Um…' he was hugged tighter.
'You two can take all the time you need. Don't worry about Sasuke's duties, Itachi will handle it.'
Itachi raised his eyebrows.
'You just focus on your time together with Sasuke, okay?' Deidera finally let go.
'I….' Naruto started, but he wasn't sure how to go about explaining it. 'I…'
'Tell me Naruto-kun,' Itachi said pouring a little wine for Naruto. 'Why did you kiss Sasuke?'
'Itachi, stop teasing him.' Deidera rolled his eyes.
'Well?' Itachi looked at Naruto expectantly.
'I…' Naruto looked down nervously. 'I…didn't want himtoksmfknf…..'
'I'm sorry?' Itachi leaned forward, Making Naruto's face heat up.
'I…uh…' He gulped. 'I didn't…I was scared that the prince might…kiss me…on my…'
He couldn't complete the sentence.
Itachi and Deidera looked at him silently and Deidera burst into a fit of giggles while Itachi tried to hide his amused smirk behind his wine glass.
Well, it was true.
Naruto blushed harder and cautiously looked around the large table, but no one seemed to have heard them. They were all busy with their own conversations.
'You are so precious.' Deidera hugging him again.
The doors opened again and everyone stood up once more to greet the prince. Sasuke walked in and took the seat next to Itachi. He nodded to the others and they sat down as well. Naruto slid further down in his chair and tried to look small behind Itachi.
'What took you?' Deidera asked beckoning the server to pour Sasuke some wine.
'My apologies.' Sasuke coughed and said.
'Okay, let's start with the feast then.' Itachi said standing up. The entire table went silent and diverted their attention to the king. Naruto sat upright again.
'Ladies and gentlemen,' Itachi said in a steady voice, ' it's so wonderful that you can join us for this little feast that my dear friend, Deidera, has put together to welcome our new bride. Welcome Naruto.'
Itachi nodded at Naruto and everyone joined in, murmuring their own little words of welcome. Naruto smiled shyly and bowed.
'And thank you, my dear Deidera.' Itachi smiled at Deidera, who looked back at Itachi and beamed.
'I am very pleased to see some of our dear friends who had missed the actual wedding present today. It's not much, but I hope this little merry making will make up for the wedding feast.'
'Long live the king!' Gai boomed from his seat, making the shinobis around him chuckle. Itachi gave him a gracious little nod.
'Thank you, Gai.' Itachi smirked. ' I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome someone very special to the Land of wind. Iruka-san, we are very happy to have you here.'
Again, everyone murmured their little welcomes to Iruka, who thanked and bowed to them.
'And with the last part of the ceremony fulfilled,' Itachi picked his wine glass and everyone followed. 'I would like to welcome our new bride. With this, Uchiha Naruto, you are now officially Uchiha Sasuke's bride, my brother in law and a member of the royal family. Welcome to the family.'
Itachi raised his glass and everyone cheered 'Congratulations!' and raised their own glasses. Naruto raised his own glass and lifted it to his lips.
'It is a rather joyous occasion.' A familiar voice spoke from the other side of the table. All fell silent and turned to face the speaker.
Naruto put his cup down. A chill ran through his body as he recognized the speaker.
'I offer my greetings to the king.' Danzou stood up from his place at the table and bowed stiffly. 'And the young prince.'
'Thank you for joining us, Danzou-san' Itachi nodded back.
'Thank you, my king, for having me.' Danzou's lips stretched into a small smile and Naruto decided he really didn't like this person's smile. 'If I'm not delaying anything, may I offer a few words?... Only with your majesty's permission, of course.'
Itachi nodded.
'Thank you.' Danzou smiled again. 'I would like to offer my congratulations to the little prince,' He said slowly, giving good amount of time to each word. 'You are much loved by your brother. A gem he has chosen for you. I imagine you must be the envy of many young men now'
Naruto guessed Sasuke must've reacted positively to the compliment, because Danzou turned to face him next.
'And your highness.' Danzou softened his voice when his eyes found him. Naruto stiffened. He did not like being within this person's span of attention. 'Welcome to the land of wind.' He paused, as though waiting for a reaction from Naruto. When Naruto simply looked back at him, he continued. 'What a lovely addition to the royal family. I am sure you will make the young prince a very happy man.'
He paused again, but continued to look at Naruto.
'I'd like to raise my glass,' He picked up his cup, without tearing his eyes away from Naruto, and everyone slowly followed, 'to the new member of the royal family.'
Everyone whispered words of agreement and took a sip.
'Whoever said a man needs a woman to complete him.' Danzou chuckled. A few people chuckled along hesitantly. 'With someone as beautiful as his highness, our prince would have no complaints.'
Naruto couldn't decide if that was a compliment.
'To Naruto-kun.' Danzou raised his glass again and lifted it to his lips.
'With much respect, Danzou-san.' Sasuke suddenly spoke from his seat. ' I would like it if my bride was not addressed so casually.'
Danzou paused in his movements and looked at Sasuke. He slowly placed his cup down as his smile widened.
'I'm sure Naruto-kun doesn't mind it?' Danzou said, smiling at Naruto again. 'Afterall, we are not strangers.'
Naruto blinked as everyone turned to look at him. He felt the need to look down again as those eyes looked suspiciously at him. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
'But as his lord and husband, such familiarity does not please me.' Sasuke said, diverting all the attention to him. 'I'm afraid I don't approve of it.'
Danzou's smiled faded a little, but returned with a deep chuckle.
'As his lord, yes.' He nodded and his smile grew wider. ' But husband, perhaps not.'
The air around suddenly grew thick. Everyone sat still in their places, not daring to say or do anything.
'You cross your line, Danzou.' Itachi said, his voice dangerously low. Naruto didn't dare look at him. He found himself shifting closer to Deidera, who wrapped an arm around his shoulder.
'Forgive me, my king.' Danzou's smiled dropped and he his lips pursed into a thin line. 'But it is not a secret I disclose.'
'Nor is it any of your business.' Sasuke growled.
'I beg your pardon, young prince.' Danzou smirked. 'But as another Uchiha man, who is unattached, it is very much my business.'
'What do you mean?' Sasuke growled again.
Danzou maintained his smirk. 'My young prince, perhaps you are aware that the second son is a threat to the first born's heir status until he has been wedded to a boy bride?'
'Naruto and I are lawfully wedded.' Naruto could sense that Sasuke was losing his patience.
'And perhaps,' Danzou's eyes narrowed as he continued, 'our young prince is also aware that all form of legal documents and relations are naught if the marriage has not been consummated?'
'You cross you limits.' Sasuke snarled loudly.
'I simply state the truth, young prince.' Danzou dropped his smirk. 'You are not above the law, and by law…'Danzou shifted his attention to Naruto again, who moved closer to Deidera. '…our little bride is still available to those unattached.'
'You have dared enough!' Sasuke suddenly stood up, his chair sliding back and falling with a loud noise that made everyone jump. Naruto slowly turned his face to look at the prince. He looked furious. His eyes had turned red, the infamous sharingan spun wildly in pure rage and his hands were clasped around the hilt of his sword, ready to be drawn.
'What I say is within my limits and my rights.' Danzou scowled. 'And I have every right to pursue what is available to me.'
'Danzou!' There was a loud crackle, and the prince had his sword drawn in front of him, the entire sword sizzling dangerously with bright blue chidori.
Everyone in the hall were now looking very cautious and Naruto felt a soft whimper escape from his throat. Deidera quickly sushed him and rubbed his arm soothingly.
'If you find the thought so distasteful, young prince,' Danzou dangerously narrowed his eyes, 'I could give you an opportunity to try and stop me.'
'No.' Deidera whispered.
'If the young prince is up for the challenge that is.' Danzou sneered.
'No wait.' Deidera stood up, but Danzou ignored him.
'Confront me, Uchiha Sasuke.' Danzou almost shouted out the words.
'Wait, Sasuke.' Deidera walked over to Sasuke, placing a hand on his shoulder. 'We have until dawn to think about this. We can-'
'I should chop off your filthy tongue for daring to utter my bride's name.' Sasuke growled low. 'Naruto is mine, and I will not be handing him over to anyone.'
'Sasuke, wait-' Deidera tried to get his attention.
'I accept your challenge.'
Deidera gasped, his hands flew to cover his mouth as he stepped away from Sasuke. Naruto looked from Sasuke to Deidera, suddenly very afraid.
'At least you are brave.' Danzou scoffed. 'You are an Uchiha at heart, but your strength I have yet to measure. I shall take much pleasure in showing you how a real Uchiha fights, young Uchiha. The pain I shall show you will be beyond…'
Danzou's words were drowned by a loud rumbling sound. All gasped in horror as the dark clouds started to form outside the window, covering the entire sky and enveloping the whole kingdom with darkness. The air grew cold and the wind howled outside the palace.
Everyone turned to find Itachi standing up in his place, his sharingan spinning at Danzou, who had gone completely silent.
'You shall not dare to utter another word.' Itachi growled, his eyes fixed on Danzou. People at the table had unconsciously moved back.
There was silence, and Danzou looked back at Itachi with a bitter look, but didn't dare to make a single sound.
'Evacuate.' Itachi said in a low and dangerous voice, and without a single word, everyone hastily left the hall.
'Deidera, take Naruto to your room.' He ordered. Deidera looked at Sasuke worriedly and walked up to Naruto.
'Come,' Dedeira said gently as he wrapped his arm around Naruto and headed towards the door. He paused once more and looked at Sasuke again, looking very troubled. Both Sasuke and Itachi had their gazes fixed on Danzou, who had his eyes fixed on Naruto.
Deidera held Naruto tighter and rushed Naruto out of the hall.
