Chapter 10

Maddy and Ceri packed up their den, whilr yhe rest picked up the campsite. The blankets, and extra clothing of hers went into the worn out duffel bag she brought the day she ran away. Bryn stayed outside, leaving Maddy to pack his stuff willingly. "School?" Maddy said suddenly and Ceri straightened, her face forming lines in confusion. "What?" Ceri answered and Maddy shrugged "Will I be forced to go to school with the humans?" Maddy questioned and Ceri's face transformed to understanding and guilt. "Alpha thinks it would be wise to go to the human school to bond more with your mate." Ceri informed her and Maddy growled "I dont understand why I have to go back to the place I ran away from mam. Why can't he stay here?" Maddy ranted and Ceri shrugged "It's just how things turned out cub." Ceri said and that was the end of that conversation.

Maddy finished packing her things and moved onto Bryn's stuff. Shoving the winter boots into the rucksack along with his two blankets, Jacket, two shirts and another pair of insulated jeans. Ceri pulled the bag over her shoulder and handed Maddy hers. It was time for them to leave Wales.

Bryn stood across from Rhydian and stared. "You came back for your mate." Bryn asked, not a hint of hurt in his voice, only knowledge. Rhydian nodded and Bryn smirked. "It's about time. Mum was wondering if you'd ever come for her. Especially when the mate bond was slowly killing her." Bryn commented and Rhydian winced "I came as soon as I could. I'm just glad she's returning with me to Stoneybridge." Rhydian said and Bryn snarled "She's still our pack. She isn't returning to your pack. We will be going with her." Bryn stated and Rhydian adopted a shocked face as Bryn laid claim on Maddy through the pack. "You're coming with us?" Rhydian asked and Bryn nodded "We'll be livin on the moors." Bryn stated and Rhydian nodded. Emma and Dan sat quietly as they listened to the conversation that was taking place. They hoped they could convice Maddy to come home, to a bed and running, warm water.

Jana and Alric finished their packing quietly, hurrying as best they could. They wanted to reach Stoneybridge by morning, and it won't be possible if they don't leave within the next hour. As they finished, Alric howled. The pack quickly gathered round as Rhydian, Emma, and Dan stayed off to the side, watching as Maddy crouched down, her fingers in the earth and looking up as Alric whispered something to her. Rhydian, Emma and Dan watched in amazement as the rest of the pack crouch down and watched her intently. Maddy snapped her head to the east. "Trespassers, two males, one female. Small child, also female, possibly no threat." Maddy snarled.

Alric nodded and barked an order. They were to leave, immediately. Everyone grabbed their sacks and took off to the north, towards Stoneybridge. Emma and Dan ran to the car, getting in and after a nod from Rhydian, drove away. The pack continued running in human form for hours. Stopping only twice for the younger ones to rest quickly. By nightfall, they shifted one by one, helping eachother strap on their bags to their wolf forms. Maddy and Rhydian were the last to shift, and after a quick shout, the pack bolted. Only Jana, Alric, and Ceri remained behind the tree line, watching. Maddy pivoted and waited for a few moments, Rhydian behind her asked her why they'd stopped running, and why they haven't shifted. Maddy grew irate "Shut up!" Maddy snapped and Rhydian fell silent. After a few more moments, Maddy snarled and crouched. Rhydian heard the three that stayed behind growled quietly too.

Rhydian was confused as to what was going on. Then he heard it, rustling and panting. Rhydian was behind Maddy, but he could see through the lack of clothing, the sign of her wolf coming to the surface. Her chest heaved as growls spilled from her mouth, her mouth starting to shift and rot. Her shoulder blades moving, ready to change to its other form. "Maddy..." Rhydian trailed off when Maddy snapped her head to his, her yellow eyes meeting his. It was then, that he realized how feral she actually was, how feral she could be. Just then the panting became louder and four wolfbloods burst through, two grown males, a young teenage girl, and a small child. "YOU! You're the ones I located with Eolas!" Maddy said shocked, gaurded as she stood up. The female stood behind the two males, the small girl in her arms. "Please, we just want to talk, we need a pack, and no other pack will... accept us." The male said, he was short, about Maddy's height, with blonde hair and grey eyes. His lashes framed his eyes made them look as if he had a black ring around each one, making him more attractive, with thin pink lips and a strong build. Maddy looked at him with a gaurded expression. "Why? And who are you?" Maddy asked and the Blonde man look up to the other man. "My name is K, and this is my Mate, Zeke. Our daughters Meadow and Lace." K said pointing to the young one then the older one, and Maddy's mouth opened in an 'O' as she stared at the two gays.

Most packs were dead set on tradition, so letting gays in a pack would be catastrophic. Maddy sort of felt for the guys. Maddy glanced back, and jerking her head foward, Alric stepped out, shifting to his human form once again. "Two gays? With daughters? In our pack? You've gone daft Maddy." Alric hissed and the two men looked down, seemingly ashamed. Maddy grew angry "So what?! So what if they're gay! They're still wolfbloods, they're still our species. It shouldn't matter who they love. Just because they're gay, we're just going to throw them out into the wilderness without a pack! No wolfblood survives without a pack Alric, none!" Maddy snapped and the two wolfbloods looked up in shock, and respect. "Maddy I understand that, but our pack-" "Our pack will still be a pack. No matter who loves who. I want them in." Maddy interrupted and Alric glanced at the four wolves in question. "As you wish daughter." Alric said and Maddy's face split into a large grin while Rhydian looked completely shocked. The Alpha backed down to her, with barely a fight.

"Come. We're heading due north." Maddy giggled and with those words said, she shifted and bounded through the woods. Alric followed then the two younger girls, the young one riding the older one and then Rhydian then the two men. They ran for hours, and finally, they made it to Stoneybridge just after dawn. The wolves made camp up on the Moors and after settling down, Rhydian pulled Maddy aside to talk to her. "We have a few weeks before school starts. I was thinking we should spend it together. You know, catching up on everything we missed, I've missed you Mads, a lot." Rhydian said, grabbing a hold of her waist and pulling her in for a hug. Maddy stiffened for a few moments, but then relaxed and hugged him back tightly. "I've missed you too." Maddy replied and Rhydian smiled into her shoulder. "You know, you're still my mate. Friend wise and wolf wise." He muttered and she chuckled a bit "That I am." Maddy said back, kissing him on the cheek when her mother called her to bed. "Go back to the tames, I'll meet you tomorrow." Maddy whispered, tentatively pecking his lips. Before he could deepen the kiss, Maddy bolted into the campsite.

Rhydian smiled as he walked back to the Smith's. He was sure as he ever was now that Maddy still loved him, and that made the situation sort of better. Yeah.. sort of better, he thought with a smile.
