Another one in my series about Harry's first day of school with Sirius and Remus. This is a second year AU where he actually makes it through the barrier. Enjoy!
September 1st 1992
Harry could tell Sirius was antsy to get back home. Then again, the husband of any werewolf would be anxious to get back home the night before a full moon. To be very honest, Harry was even surprised that today Remus had been able to prop himself up from his horizontal position in the couch in the study and kiss the top of Harry's head. The week before the full moon, Remus was always very protective of his "cub", constantly doting over him until the poor werewolf practically couldn't stand.
"Siri," Harry said, clutching Hedwig's cage tightly, "I can get to the platform from here, you can go back to Rem if you need to."
Sirius, who was currently pushing Harry's luggage along, looked highly affronted, "You come first, Prongslet, there's no rush to get back home."
Sure, that's what Sirius said, but Harry could see the worry lines around his eyes. Harry looked but at his godfather, smiling gratefully, "Thank you, Sirius." The older man beamed, and followed Harry through the barrier to 9 3/4. The platform was busy with witches and wizards of various shapes and sizes, school-aged children weaving in between their parents. Almost immediately, Harry spotted the cluster of red heads that were the Weasleys. Harry moved through the crowd, Sirius following behind with the squeak of the trolley wheels.
Mrs. Weasley smiled at Harry from next to her husband, "Harry, dear, over here, love!" Harry was pulled tightly into a warm, motherly embrace that smelled nothing of musky cologne and cigarettes or parchment and ink. After a minute of not being able to breathe, it was Sirius who was able to save Harry from the stout woman's death grip. "'Lo, Molly," Sirius said, charming and regal as in all his public appearances, "How many off to school again?"
Molly smiled, "Five! Ginny's first year of course, we're hoping for Gryffindor—"
She continued to jabber on about school work and the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher ("One air headed Hufflypuff if I did meet one," Sirius had said) Gilderoy Lockhart and the Ministry. Harry slipped under the safety Sirius' arm, not one for crowds, tucking his head below Sirius' heart.
Soon enough, Ron scampered over, grabbing his trunk from next to his mother and father. The train whistled blew again, signaling the two minute mark until the train departed.
"C'mon, Harry! Hermione's already found a compartment!" Ron called, one foot on the train. Quickly, Sirius pushed Harry's luggage into his hands and kissed the top of Harry's head. "Be good, Prongslet, write me 'n Moons every week and give Snape hell for me, al'right?"
Harry nodded, hugging his godfather goodbye once more, "Give my love to Remus, good luck tonight." He turned and climbed onto the train, waving as the train started to depart.
Sirius stood proudly on the platform, leather jacket and skintight jeans, boots buckled and hair pulled back. A half-smile was on his face, pursing his lips to blow a kiss goodbye.
