Mick's POV
Pocketing the phone I resettled in the unsurprisingly hard chair next to Gina's bed. The soft moan nearly went unheard cautiously I grabbed her hand, well and truly aware of the fact that apart from the odd hand shake or fake punch it was pretty much our first physical contact.
"Can you squeeze my hand if you can hear me, love?" I asked excitedly, leaning right over her bed.
The smallest amount of pressure was immediately applied, grinning I thought about all of the things I could ask her drug muddled mind for later. All were quickly dismissed as I settled on something more appropriate.
"Do you want me to keep talking or do you want to rest? Squeeze twice if you want to sleep." A slightly harder grip compressed my hand this time making me smile. "Sure thing, but only for a few minutes. I want you looking me in the eye before I tell you anything embarrassing." I challenged with a smirk I knew she couldn't see.
A couple of her fingers twitched against my skin in response. I guess she meant that I'd better stick to that promise.
"Well I remember when my sister introduced me to her first boyfriend after I came back from selection. I was in uniform and tired as hell with no place of my own so she offered me her spare room in this London flat I had set her up in..."
Gina's POV
His voice staved off the dessert scenes, for the first time today I felt safe. My subconscious voice insisted on trusting this man completely. His story was clean and honest, recounting the trauma Jenna's date was put through on seeing a SAS member sprawled out on the couch with a blood stained shirt on.
He didn't get much further as another man had started yelling at him for not alerting any of the medical staff about my semi-awakened state. I laughed a little as I heard my companion meekly apologize having no idea why it was funny in the first place. That was when I opened my eyes. To see the Welshman take one last glance at me before finally surrendering.
"Out, I don't care if your FBI or the King of England. You are not sitting in on my patient's check up!" (I assumed this was my Doctor) Huskily shouted before tumblers clicked shut. "I'm your Doctor , incase you haven't already guessed, Caleb Daniels. To you, it's either Doc or Caleb, okay?"
I nodded in response.I went to introduce myself but found my throat to dry to make the words recognizable.
"Water?"
Another nod, I pushed myself up into a sitting position. Carefully keeping all pressure off my bandaged leg as he poured out a glass and held it to my lips. Tipping it gently to allow the liquid to trickle down. It did the trick, on my second try I managed to answer.
"Great," he smiled. "Do you know why your here?"
I chuckled, "I'm certain that it isn't because I am pregnant. I got shot again didn't I?"
Caleb laughed, "Yeah, you did. How's the head?"
"Still attached," I grinned. "The pain killers stopped it from hurting so anything beyond that you'll have to figure out Doc."
The man shook his head in mock wonder. "Do you remember the man that I just sent out?"
I didn't answer immediately, I did know him. I knew that much although the details were hazy. His name, history and other small details I couldn't pinpoint. All I had on that man was that I should trust him and could count on him. Why? I... I just felt like it. Biting my lip I thought through an answer.
"I know that I know him... It's just how and who he is hidden, like I could say what is normal behavior and stuff... But I couldn't tell you his name."
"Well in your case it should just be temporary, it will all eventually come back Gina. So is it just names and faces? Or do you have difficulty with your own history too?"
Mentally I ran through my own timeline. Birthdays alone, my annoying sister and jerk of a Father, High School, Basic, Iraq, and West Point. It was all there. I wasn't that lucky.
"It's just all of my recollection of people is all messed up. I can remember my family and really old friends. Anyone from these last couple of years are fuzzy."
'And there goes my vocabulary,' I thought bitterly. Ashamed the most comprehensive word I could find was 'fuzzy'. The Doctor leant down and gripped my shoulder reassuringly.
"I'll be back in a few hours, do you want me to let that man back in?"
I nodded softly, unwilling to remain in the unfamiliar room alone. Besides the British man had a tendency to grow on people.
"Just make sure he lets you rest."
With that the mousy brunette strode out. Firmly closing the door behind him which in turn opened back up some very painful memories.
