My Little Butterfly

Chapter 11: Out of My Cocoon

Rena shielded her eyes from the glare of the sun as she stepped out of the basement into the ravaged Elder city. It had been an entire month since she had last stood her feet, and she was eager to make this as quick and painless as possible. She took a moment to take in what she could see. Little remained of the business district. Key landmarks like the Weapon Shop and Alchemy Shop had been hit the hardest. resdential areas, however, seemed lively, with distant cannon fire and sword clashes. If she was going to find Raven, that was her best bet.

Rena smiled as her feet hit the ground as she sprinted down the street. It felt so good to run, and for a moment, she shut out the world around her to just enjoy this feeling of freedom for a moment. The wind blew across her face and her hair whipped in response. Her feet kicked up small pebbles as she ran by, causing them to clatter behind her. Only a few moments passed before she drew herself back to reality. The fighting was just ahead. Rena leaped onto a collapsed building, before jumping onto a balcony across the street, leaping onto the roof from there. She recognized the dark elves that littered the rooftops ahead, raining arrows down into the streets. Luckily, she had the element of surprise. Rena quickly ran up behind the nearest one and kicked her off the building, where the ground forces quickly took her out. Black Crow members? The hell were they doing here? Rena shook the thought out of her head, first she needed to find him. Rena quickly made her way from building to building, fighting the dark elves whenever they crossed paths. Where was he?

Rena became increasingly worried as she landed a kick firmly between a dark el's spine and shoulder blade. She had traveled through half the area, and she hadn't seen him. As she looked down at the streets this time, however, she found a familiar pink haired elf plant her knife in a sniper's neck. "Chloe!" The villain crooked her head back to look up at Rena. "Oh, if it isn't leaf head. I had a feeling you survived." Rena couldn't help but question if her hair actually looked like a plant for a moment, before realizing who she was talking to. The dark elf continued as she swiftly jumped onto the building opposite of Rena. "If you're looking for Raven, you're wasting your time." Rena's look let Chloe know she hit the nail on the head. "CHLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOE!" Rena leaped across the street, almost kicking Chloe square in the chest, the dark elf just moving out of the way and retreating. "If you think you can take him back, let's see you try!" Chloe hopped away, Rena sprinting after her. Rena felt her legs get a bit heavy, she was out of practice, Chloe, however, was at the top of her game, kicking some shingles off a roof as she passed over it. Rena stopped for a moment to duck under them, before kicking off again after her.

As the buildings became more scarce at the west edge of town, Chloe hopped into a n open window, disappearing into the building. Rena followed her, finding herself in a complex maze of walls, both from the building, and built by the demons. Chloe's laugh bounced around, echoing over itself. Rena tried to find her way through the maze, often seeing a glimpse of pink or purple on the other side of the hastily built walls. After what felt like an hour of wandering through endless corridors, Rena finally reached a door. She cautiously opened it, only entering when she was sure she wouldn't be shot at upon stepping foot within. Looking back, she wished it could have been that easy.

There was Raven, beaten and unconscious on the ground, and Chloe casually twirling his Nasod Arm, which had been forcefully torn off. Rena paid no mind to Chloe as she ran over to the swordsman, kneeling at his side. "Raven, can you hear me?! Raven!" No good, he was passed out and needed medical attention badly. How badly had he been injured in the past day? Chloe cackled at Rena's feeble attempt at waking up her dear knight. "Don't think you'll be waltzing out." Rena stood up, still looking at Raven's bleeding form. "Chloe….you're a fool if you'd think I'd just walk away from you for doing this." Rena turned to face her enemy, fire in her eyes. Chloe grinned madly at Rena's resolve. Rena took the initiative, charging at Chloe.

And cliffhanger! Yeah, to make up for the whole Rena scare, you get to see her be a badass! And what could be better than a badass female lead? See you all next time for the big fight!
