A/N: The fic of the month! Admittingly a good chunk of the chapter is just exposition... mostly exposition... so yeah.

Chapter 11: The Truth

Both Ichigo and Kyoko stood in silence. Rukia sighed, after all this news was very troubling.

"How would it destroy the universe?" asked Kyoko.

"In the soul society Soul Reapers are often called Balancers. An equal amount of souls must be maintained between the Soul Society and the World of the Living. Do you know why? Because otherwise the balance between the two world shift. Bring Destruction to both. It's the job of the soul reapers to adjust the numbers in both worlds. The souls replaced by the Soul Society are accounted for when they re-born here, while the souls that die are returned to Soul Society by Soul Reapers. The same goes for Hollows. By entrusting the transfer of souls to the Soul Reapers, the soul society can maintain the balance between worlds." Explained Rukia, "Qunicys comply eradicate the souls of Hollows, so the souls released to this world don't return to the Soul Society. The number of soul increase in this world. Which makes the whole universe tilt this way. And the soul society began to spill into this world. Life and death mixing together, creating chaos."

"Cats and dogs living together! Mass hysteria!" said Kyoko.

Both Rukia and Ichigo looked at Kyoko.

"Sorry… the hotel has Ghostbusters this month…" said Kyoko.

Rukia laughed a little but became serious again.

"A few years after the Qunicys were discovered the Soul Society began pleading with them to leave the hollow management to them. But the Qunicys stubbornly refused. The number of Qunicys rapidly increased. The transfer of souls was distrusted and the universe was on the verge of collapse. It decided that Qunicys much be eliminated. Do you think the Soul Repapers were cruel?" asked Rukia.

The tow knew they had to confront Uryu.

And thankfully they found him in a vacant lot fighting a lot of Hollows.

Ichigo began to kill many of the hollows.

"Seriously?" asked Kyoko.

"Hey! I don't see you killing at many!" yelled Ichigo.

"Some way to make an entrance." Said Kyoko with a shrug.

Uryu's eye twitched having hearing this.

"Seriously!" he muttered, "He even told me to watch how I fight and he fights like this."

"Hey! Uryu! We know your story now!" said Ichigo.

"Look it doesn't matter who was right!" said Kyoko.

"We don't have an opinion on that." Said Ichigo, "But I at least know one thing your way…"

"I don't care what happened to the Qunicys, that was centuries ago." Said Uryu, "I heard the story from my old master, that's all an accident legend to me."

The two stared at Uryu, after he took the wind from their sails.

"That's not why I fight. When I heard the story of what happened to the Quincy I thought that the Soul Reapers were right. I'm not sentimental that I'd hold it against you… until I watched my master die." Said Uryu.

"Okay… things are complicated… I'm going to let you two talk it out." Said Kyoko.

"Seriously?" asked Ichigo.

"He's not mad at me and we're pretty much surrounded right now so…" said Kyoko who cut down one of the hollows, "You two talk things out an I'll listen…"

Both of them stared at Kyoko.

"Do you want to be surrounded by Hollows?" asked Kyoko.

"She's' got a point." Said Ichigo.

However Uryu just killed a couple Hollows.

Kyoko rolled her eyes at him.

She continued to fight off the hollows at Ichigo and Uryu talked.

Well more like Uryu told them (as Kyoko was listening) about his master.

"My master never taught me to dislike or hate anyone." Said Uryu.

Kyoko killed a hollow and rolled her eyes at that comment.

"As one of the last surviving Qunicys, my master was under constant surveillance. But he kept arguing that Qunicys were necessary. He thought of ways for them to work together. Said Uryu, "The Soul Reapers in the Soul Society are often slow to respond to the Hollows of this world. With Magical Girls being a rare phenomena, But the Soul Reapers response was always "Don't interfere with out work". So my master was killed." Said Uryu.

He told them the story on how his master died.

How he fought against five very large hollows, something he shouldn't have done alone and the Soul Reapers showed up 2 hours after he sent the call… and an hour after he died.

Kyoko continued to fight the hollows, but now understood part of the reasons why he was doing the thing he was doing.

"In the end Master's Philosophy never reached the Soul Reapers. If they had embraced his ideas, if they had recognized the strength of the Qunicys, if they would have just arrived in time to save him… then my master wouldn't have had to die." Said Uryu.

Neither Ichigo or Kyoko said anything.

"UI must demonstrate the strength of the Qunicys! I don't want your help in this battle. You're a Soul Reaper and I'm a Quincy. If you think my way is wrong, then please watch from the sidelines, I will demonstrate its effectiveness." Said Uryu.

"You talk too much!" yelled Ichigo kicking him into the face of a Hollow.

"About time you did something." Said Kyoko.

"I don't see you doing anything." Said Ichigo.

"I've been fighting while you two have been talking." Said Kyoko with a shrug.

"Hey!" said Uryu.

Ichigo once again kicked him in the face.

"Your story was so long I forgot that beginning!" yelled Ichigo.

Kyoko tried not to snicker but she couldn't help it.

"But the point was that your master's number one desire wasn't to prove that Qunicys were better than Soul Reapers but to work together." Said Ichigo.

"Plus I'm pretty sure he'd be pretty upset that you would let innocent people die just to do that." Said Kyoko.

"That's besides the point!" said Ichigo, "If we don't do that now, we might never get the chance."

Kyoko smirked when he said that.

"So Soul Reapers and Qunicys are as opposite as book ends fighting overwhelming odds is still better fighting back to back." Said Ichigo.

"I think you forgot someone." Said Kyoko.

"I guess with a rare phenomena that the Soul Society doesn't care about is a good idea too." Said Ichigo.

"Seriously?" asked Kyoko.

"Hey that's what I gathered about Magical Girls." Said Ichigo.

Kyoko shrugged.

Ichigo and Kyoko looked at the hollows ready for a fight, while Uryu was just confused.

Indeed the fight was going to take a rather interesting turn indeed…
