Hello everyone again! Hopefully you enjoyed the last chapter as much as you shall enjoy this chapter, if so review and fav. :)
Coruscant 22 BBY
Padmé sat quietly as her handmaiden Dormé briefed her on the information that she would need to contact her just in case something were to go wrong. Captain Typhoo ran over security measures once again with both Padmé and Dormé on what would occur whilst Padmé was in hiding. It was standard procedure by now for Padmé the past few months had been nothing but security debriefings and finding interesting ways to disguise her in ornate or simple costumes.
The small train headed to a depot where she and Anakin would board a refugee ship heading for Naboo. The passage would take about a day and leaving them arriving in Naboo around noontime the next day. In time to see the Queen and her council to discuss further of the military creation act and the outline of her security. It would be seemingly standard; she had met with the Queen more than once for this same reason since the bill was first introduced last year.
The council and the Queen would continue to state that she had to negotiate further with other senators, if that was even possible now. It seemed that everyday the Republic moved towards war, all that had to be done is to tip over a grain of rice that would cause an eruption of violence and death throughout the galaxy. She felt she should remain on Coruscant to stop the violence from occurring in the first place, but what was she supposed to do? Stay here and risk being killed? Perhaps that was what her purpose was, to die defending peace?
As the holobus stopped in front of the train depot she felt her heart sink at the thought of the war lasting long enough to see young men and women being drafted in the military to just be used as pawns in a game of endless politics. Dmitri may be saved from the draft but it did not mean that he would not enlist… imagine if he were to die on a battlefield? So cold and alone dying slowly of a blaster wound to the shoulder and gangrene from a gash in his leg?
Force, I am going mad. Padmé thought as she stood preparing to hug Dormé on last time before leaving.
"Please be safe milady." Dormé told Padmé once more before a single tear rolled down her face thinking of her lady getting hurt or killed.
"You'll be fine." Padmé reassured the handmaiden obviously showing fear against being left in the position of pretending to be her.
"It's not me milady." Dormé admitted letting another tear roll down her cheek. "What if they realize you have left the capital?"
Padmé simply smiled looking at her new Jedi protector, Anakin Skywalker. He disturbed her on a level that increased the anxiety of going back to Naboo tenfold. He was still that little boy from Tatoonie just older and he had grown so handsome… what was she thinking about?
"Then my Jedi protector will have to prove how good he is." She smiled widely thinking of Naboo instead of lustful things of the nineteen-year-old boy.
As she picked up her bags Anakin took the heavier ones while saying, "Its time to go."
"I know." Was her reply as she headed off the holovan and into the light of Coruscant's mid-morning?
She walked beside of him wearing the disguise of a newly wedded couple headed to Naboo to start a new life together. That was the story that they were told to stick with by Obi-wan and Captain Typhoo at least. She was fearful for many reasons, she was alone with a hormonal teenage boy who obviously had alternate thoughts of her, and that perhaps the assign had realized she was leaving the capital and that they had planned to blow up the ship as soon as the ship left port.
It seemed that her greater fear was of the hormonal teenage boy that had replaced the innocent little boy that she had once known. She admitted her feelings for the boy had increased from motherly to perhaps romantic, but it was a more of a lustful admiration. The way he stared at her made he so uncomfortable but at the same time filled her with a since of lust that she had never been given.
Perhaps this feeling would pass, oh how she prayed that she wanted this to be only a temporary. The feelings of she had towards Anakin been something that she would gladly wish away. They were not of love, no, admiration perhaps, yes, but no love. Love was something that was deeper that she hardly felt towards anyone outside of her family.
She shook her head. "Suddenly I am afraid."
"This is my first mission alone as well." Anakin stated in a somewhat apathetic vocal tone. "Don't worry we've got R2 with us."
She smiled slightly looking back at the small droid trailing behind the two towards the transport. R2 just followed like a small animal would its mother or its master, she smiled at least she would always have one constant loyalty in her life that did not come from family. Then again, at this point R2 was family, a rather queer member of her family but still a member of her family.
In Route to Naboo 22 BBY
Anakin slept peacefully as Padmé spent her time trying to find something to entertain herself with through the long journey from Coruscant to Naboo. When she looked at Anakin, he seemed like a child once more to Padmé as he curled up for warmth in the cold of space. She felt the need to wrap him in blankets as if he still was a child unable to do anything other than sit there and look cute.
He tossed and turned in his sleep resulting in her monitoring him in her restlessness. She found that he slept similarly to Dmitri, one arm over his eyes while the other laying somewhere on the sheets. Thinking of he son again was not good, that would bring only sad emotions. She needed to distract herself from thinking of him. Besides, she would see him soon anyway… or at least she hoped.
Dmitri was safe on Naboo surrounded by family and secret guards posted around her home and the streets of Theed to monitor his activity to report back to Padmé. She must stop worrying of him and focus on here and now. She would see him the next day in the afternoon, maybe even make it for supper time back at her parent's home.
And after supper she would play with him, have him nearby at all times, put him to bed, and pray that she would take him to wherever the remote region of Naboo she decided upon. That was all that mattered really was making sure that she had Dmitri with her at all times. She would not abandon him again. She just couldn't.
"No, Mom!" Anakin shouted suddenly throwing one of his arms off to the wall hitting it with a loud thud with the right hand and wrist hitting the metal as hard as possible.
"Anakin," Padmé whispered to get the Jedi Padawan to awake from whatever strange nightmare he was having. "Anakin wake up. You're having a nightmare. Wake up."
She shook him until he opened his lovely blue eyes to her with deep concern imbedded in the eyes of the boy she cared so much so long ago. He was indeed frightened as he rose out of bed and took a bottle of water and drank from it slowly without hesitation in need of a good distraction from not telling Padmé about his nightmares of his mother.
He felt it would make him seem weak to her if he showed the emotion of fear or grief. She was a compassionate woman; that was one of the many qualities he loved about her, but that was not something he wanted. He did not want her compassion; he wanted her passion and love.
"Anakin, are you all right?" Padmé asked in a near whisper.
"I'm fine." He lied looking at the woman as if she were crazy for thinking he was not all right.
Jedi don't have nightmares, they do not dream, what they see in their subconscious is nothing more than fear that the dark side of the Force uses to persuade them to turn to the wrong side. It was a common lesson Obi-wan had been teaching Anakin since the nightmares of his mother began. Obi-wan had explained that his nightmares were nothing more than the dark side tempting him to do something irrational. It was of this that he had managed to dismiss some of the nightmares, but as of late they had been worse, she had been screaming his name to help her, but he could do nothing but watch, as she was tortured in a horrific way.
He had little to think of besides his mother and his Jedi training. And that little thing was the beautiful Padmé. He had spent ten years waiting to see her again, and now here she was trying to comfort him as she did ten years ago when he was just a cold desert boy stuck on a ship without his mother. She was a caring figure that if he had had more time during his training would do nothing but look up through the holonet. He had rarely been able to see anything of her on the holonet, other than her re-election as Queen and her opponent to the Senate by the Queen two years ago.
Obi-wan had not taken lightly to his "obsession" with the beautiful Naboo Queen. He had forbid him from researching her after the first two weeks of his training. He secretly longed to visit her on Naboo. Whenever she came to Coruscant as Queen he and Obi-wan would be sent off planet to prevent the boy's further attachment to the Queen. He understood but his views on the code were something of disgust when it came down to attachment, it was not attachment that he had for Padmé, it was love.
No one would understand though that the feelings he had for Padmé were of love, they believed they were of lust. No, lust had nothing to do with it. Lust was an emotion of the dark side used by the weak to get them to fall to their knees in willfulness to follow orders. The love he felt for Padmé was unconditional, he refused to allow himself think of lust when it came to Padmé. She was beautiful yes, but his longing was for her and only her.
"Anakin I know you are lying." Padmé said sitting in a chair near the bed. "Tell me what happened?"
Anakin felt his heart rate increase as she looked directly at him with those glorious brown eyes. She was trying to talk with him, he could sense he concern but there was more than that in her voice. If only her shields were not so strong. He could see what she was seeing and what she longed from him. Perhaps she felt the same way and was hiding it beneath a thick layer of modesty.
"It was nothing to be concerned of." He reassured her.
"I'm a politician Annie," She reminded him. "I know when people are lying to me. If you aren't going to tell me it's fine, but if you need to talk I am right here."
Anakin wanted to smile at her for her offer. He wanted to kiss her cheek and tell her that he was honestly fine. That these nightmares would fade soon and then they could be together without fear of his mother being tortured. He wanted her to see that he was strong and not show the weakness that threatened his mental health every time he dreamed of her.
Naboo 22 BBY
Padmé had a sad smile on her face as they entered the Naboo atmosphere. She smiled at the thought of being home, but was rather depressed at the thought of seeing Dmitri once again for fear of the look on his face when he realized she was still going to go through politics until the war or risk of war as she should have said ended. He would not grow up in a period of war. She had to protect him and the rest of the galaxies children from seeing the horrors of war.
The thought of starving citizens came to mind when she thought of the worlds that would be cut off by the republic in favor of troops and military might. She say women holding tightly to their sons and daughters as they were drafted into the war of nothing but politics. They would die fighting for nothing. It was not fair to see so many young people dying in a war that could have been prevented had she done something to stop.
She shook her head; no she could not act as if the war was inevitable. There was still hope that many of the bribed politicians would come to their senses and vote against the military creation act.
"We've landed." Anakin informed the Senator as she looked out the glass to see nothing but one of the many ports of Theed.
She nodded her head as she followed Anakin through the ship and out onto the streets of Theed. The thoughts of war continued to haunt her as she and Anakin walked through the streets of Theed reminding her of what happened so long ago and picturing it within the context of the galaxy as a whole. Oh Force she had to stop thinking of this, she had to put her mind away from what could happen and live in the present where she was just trying to get to the Palace.
"If I grew up here I don't think I'd ever leave." Anakin spoke while walking through the town center on the way to the palace.
"I doubt that." Padmé said smiling slightly.
Anakin just shook his head and said, "No, really. When I started my training, I was very homesick and very lonely. This city and my Mom were the only pleasant things I had to think about... The problem was, the more I thought about my Mom, and the worse I felt. But I would feel better if I thought about the palace - the way it shimmers in the sunlight - the way the air always smells of flowers..."
"...And the soft sound of the distant waterfalls. The first time I saw the Capital, I was very young... I'd never seen a waterfall before. I thought they were so beautiful... I never dreamed one day I'd live in the palace." Padmé laughed slightly at the memory of her first visit to Theed.
"Well, did you dream of politics as a little girl?" Anakin asked with a soft chuckle.
"No!" Padmé laughed, and then became more serious. "That was the last thing I thought of, but the more history I studied, the more I realized how much good politicians could do. After school, I became a Senatorial advisor with such a passion that, before I knew it, I was elected Queen. For the most part it was because of my conviction that reform was possible. I wasn't the youngest Queen ever elected, but now that I think back on it, I'm not sure I was old enough. I'm not sure I was ready."
"The people you served thought you did a good job. I heard they tried to amend the Constitution so you could stay in office." Anakin remembered what little information he had managed to grasp during his private research throughout the years they were separated.
"Popular rule is not democracy Annie. It gives the people what they want, not what they need." Padmé argued he was foolish to think that she would dare go back and become Queen again. "Truthfully, I was relieved when my two terms were up. So were my parents, they were constantly worried about me during my reign and to this day worry more than what is necessary about me. Actually... I was hoping to be..."
Padmé stopped herself as she noticed a guard rushing towards her to inform her of the audience with the Queen that would take place shortly. She nodded to the guard as he led Anakin and Padmé into the Palace and into the throne room to discuss the difficult decisions that would have to be made about their place amongst the republic.
The palace had not much changed since she was Queen, the air was the same, the pictures on the wall were the same, and everything was so similar to the way it was back in two years earlier. Perhaps she should have remained Queen? She would not have so much of a direct impact on intergalactic politics. She wouldn't have the assignation attempts... no, she'd still have the attempts on her life but she would not be here with the lustful Padawan she felt such strong attractions towards.
Perhaps had she left public service once she retired as Queen and refused the offer of the Queen when she offered the position of Senator from Naboo? It would have been better had she left politics and not upset anyone else.
Queen Jamilla and Sio Babble opened the throne room door as the Senator entered the room and was welcome.
"It is so good to see that you are all right." The Queen told Padmé.
"Thank you your highness." Padmé smiled to her Queen after bowing slightly to the Queen of her home planet.
The meeting dragged onto include discussions of the Trade Federation, the possibility of negotiations, and even the chances of someway out of this war. None of these solutions and discussions would come together to actually solve a problem sadly; all they would do would be to help the citizens feel better about their government's efforts to keep out of another horrible war.
"Now we must discuss your own safety." The Queen began with the meeting adjured with the hopes of democracy winning in the end.
"I was thinking the same, there are several isolated places here on Naboo to choose from. I was thinking of my family's retreat in the secluded lake country." Padmé thought.
"Excuse me." Anakin said with a huffy voice. "I'm in charge of security here milady."
Padmé rolled her eyes, as she turned back to Anakin in an equally huffy tone. "Anakin, I'm the one that is in danger, this is my home and I think you should take that into account before using what you think is right over my knowledge."
He put his hands on his hips and just faked a smile while the Queen just stared at the young Jedi as if he were mad. "I'm sorry milady."
She said nothing in return and focused her attention to the Queen once more.
"I had an audience with your father yesterday." The Queen began trying to keep the eavesdropping Padawan. "He wants you to visit with him and your mother before leaving for wherever you intend to hide."
"Of course I will see them." Padmé downright shouted. "I'd be horrible if I didn't see her before leaving!"
The Queen raised her hands in mock surrender at the slightly moody Senator. Padmé and Anakin walked out of the palace and headed to Padmé's parents house where they would eat lunch and hopefully spend the rest of the day with Dmitri. Or at least somehow convince Anakin to agree to bring Dmitri along with them to the Lake Retreat. He would be safe with her and she knew he would never be without her insight; it would be perfectly safe to have her son with them. Wouldn't it?
Wait; did Anakin know she had a child in the first place?
Review and stuff love you guys! :)
