Here it is my next chapter, like with the Fairies chapters there is another part to this which will hopefully be up soon.
Hope you enjoy!
Coutrycide
Ianto rested his head against the window, waiting as the others got themselves settled. Tosh sat next to him and next to her was Owen, in the front Gwen sat in the passenger seat while Jack was driving.
The journey back to Cardiff was long and silent; the only sound came from the murmuring voices on the radio.
Ianto rested his head back but looked out the window; suddenly feeling a weight on his shoulder he looked to see Tosh's head on his shoulder and put his arms round her and placed a light kiss on her head as he had done many times with Megan.
Jack pulled up outside the hub and he and Owen helped Gwen into Owen's car as he was driving her home although it was unknown whose home he was driving her too.
While this was happening Ianto looked down at Tosh who was fiddling with his sleeve. "Why don't you stay with me and Megan tonight?" Tosh shook her against Ianto's shoulder. "It wasn't a suggestion Tosh."
"I don't to intrude"
"You won't be and Megan will only call and ask you to come round anyway. So what do you say?"
"Ok, if you're sure."
"I am."
Jack got back into the SUV and looked at Tosh and Ianto feeling very guilty he had been responsible for this and he was their captain, he was supposed to look after them. Oh god they nearly died and it was all his fault.
"I'll drop Tosh off first."
"Actually sir could you drop us both off at my flat please."
"Sure." Maybe this trip hadn't been such a waste of time.
Ianto's flat
Jack pulled up outside the block of flats where Ianto lived and fished round in his pockets for a bottle of pills, handing them to Ianto who took them.
"Two every eight hours, Owen said, depending on how you feel."
Ianto nodded his thanks to them before climbing out of the SUV.
Ianto offered Tosh his hand to get out the car which she accepted gratefully. Once she was out he leaned through the passenger window and looked at Jack.
"Are you going to be alright sir?"
"Yes thank you Ianto, I need to go back to the hub, paperwork. Say hello to Megan for me."
"I will."
"Good night Tosh."
They walked up the stairs together in a comfortable silence, Ianto limping slightly, but as they neared the top they could hear muffled music Ianto sighed and fumbled for a few seconds with the keys before opening the door to his flat.
The music although loud wasn't deafeningly so and Tosh realised that it was 'Help' by the Beatles, appropriate thought Tosh. She stood next to Ianto and looked down at the girl asleep on the sofa curled up in her pyjamas and dressing gown with a large black and white cat, she looked so very peaceful a contrast to the events that had happened that day.
"I can see why you don't want her too involved with Torchwood."
Ianto looked startled as though he'd forgotten she was there but he recovered quickly. "I should wake her up." He walked over to the side of the living room to a small white case with red edges that appeared to be a record player, Ianto turned it off and a silence descended on the flat. Megan shifted in her sleep as Ianto placed a hand on her arm and shook her gently. "Time to wake up Megan."
Megan's eyes fluttered open and she looked up at Ianto "Why are you back I thought you were going to be gone for a couple of days."
Ianto stood up slowly and held out a hand to help her up "Yeh well we found out why people were going missing so we came home."
Tosh felt rather awkward, like she was intruding on the two siblings. She looked towards the door thinking that she should leave but remembering she didn't have her car.
"Don't even think about leaving Tosh." Said Megan the determination in her voice was unmistakable so Tosh decided to just roll with it.
Ianto had gone into his room to find some clean clothes. He felt dirty and wanted to do anything to feel even a little bit better.
"There's no point in putting on clean clothes until you've had a shower," said Megan from the door way but Ianto didn't move, he appeared to be thinking about something so she went over to him gently led him to the bathroom.
"Tosh should have a shower first."
"No you shower while I find Tosh some clean clothes." Ianto nodded that seemed logical. "And I'll order some food."
Ianto shook his head again "No meat. Please."
"Of course." Megan helped Ianto out of his shirt and black t-shirt because Ianto's stiff limbs were starting to protest.
She couldn't stop a sharp intake of breath when she saw the livid bruises and cuts on Ianto's torso and arms, she didn't say anything but the concern was evident in her eyes.
She left Ianto to finish getting undressed and into the shower while she went back into his room (after telling him to leave the bathroom unlocked) for some clean underwear and pj's for him to wear and a towel. Before she left the bathroom she took the tub of pain killers out of his jeans pocket.
Megan put the tablets on the kitchen counter and grabbed a glass of water on her way to the living room where Tosh was sitting on the sofa staring into space.
Something had happened at the Bracken Beacons that much was evident, something to do with the disappearing people. She would have to research it later.
Tosh looked up as Megan sat next to her and handed her the water which Tosh accepted gratefully because her throat was dry from running and… well… everything else that had happened.
"You should have a shower when Ianto's finished."
"I don't have any clean clothes."
"Don't worry about that I'll find you something."
Tosh opened her mouth to reply but Megan had already gone, curiosity got the better her and Tosh followed Megan into a small room connected to the living room.
Tosh stopped in the doorway to the room and just stared for a couple of seconds, the contrast of this room to the rest of the flat was… well… extreme. Three of the walls were painted a light green and the forth was wallpapered and had little birds and flowers printed on it. There was a single bed against the wall left to the door the headboard of which was black metal and consisted of a curvy pattern and had fairy lights woven around it. It was covered in a blue bed sheet and had a pile of cushions on it, but the most interesting thing to Tosh were the pictures stuck on the opposite wall, she wondered over to them all of them were full of smiling people she recognised Megan surrounded by people older looking but so happy and full of life, there were others that must have been of a much younger Megan and was that Ianto?
"It's weird isn't it." Tosh jumped she'd forgotten about Megan.
"What?"
"Seeing people in pictures when their younger and your only used to seeing them when their 24." Megan handed her a set of clean pyjamas, underwear and slipper socks. "Don't worry they're all clean."
"You're very good at looking after people." Megan gave a gentle laugh.
"I've had lots of practice." She pointed to a photo that showed her with a group of older people. "I'm the youngest in my group of friends at uni, when I arrived there I was still too young to drink and even now I never pass my limit so when their too drunk to walk properly I just make sure they're safe."
There was genuine feeling and compassion in her voice and fondness as she looked at the photo. "It must make you a good person to have as a friend."
She shrugged "I'd do the same for anyone." She walked back over to a chest of doors and took the locket from around her neck. "Well unless they hurt someone I care about."
Tosh nodded she remembered what Ianto had said at the firearms training and guessed that was where she got it from.
Megan flicked through a few take away menus from the table until she found one for a Chinese restaurant, she handed it to Tosh. "You must be starving."
Tosh nodded she hadn't eaten since this morning but the thought of eating meat made her stomach turn.
"You should know they do really good prawns." Tosh smiled thank god for Megan.
When Ianto came out of the bathroom his hair was still wet and his skin slightly red, indicating he had been scrubbing at it. He stood in the kitchen flicking through the Chinese menu while Megan got Tosh a clean towel.
When she came out she quickly ordered the food then went back to the kitchen, filling up another glass of water and picking up the tub of pain killers handing them both to Ianto who took two and downed the rest of the water before handing the glass back to Megan. She took it and looked at him. "Better?" she asked.
"Megan I'm fine." She raised her eye brows at him; he sighed, and rubbed a hand over his face "I will be."
About twenty minutes later they were all sat in the living room eating Chinese and drinking water (no alcohol allowed). At some point in the evening they had all ended up on the floor, Ianto in the middle with the two girls leaning on either side of him, Megan had got her laptop and put on Night at the Museum. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, a million miles away from what it had been before.
Tosh looked up and saw Megan was half asleep, leaning on Ianto's shoulder and he looked so tired. She felt very selfish knowing that they couldn't go to sleep until she went to bed since Megan was sleeping on the sofa and Ianto was too polite to retire before his guest. No matter how tired he was.
Ianto was startled by a hand on his arm he saw Tosh looking down at him. Damn he'd forgotten she was here, he really should stop doing that.
"You ok?" he asked her worried something had happened
"Yes, I'm going to bed. Do you want a hand with Megan?"
"Um… no, no thanks you… um… have a good night. Tosh."
She turned to look at him, "if you don't want the room completely dark then you can leave the fairy lights on, they're not so bright that they'll keep you awake. Well that's what Megan does."
Tosh smiled from the doorway to Megan's room "thank you Ianto, for everything. Good night"
"Night Tosh" Tosh closed the door too and hung up the dressing-gown, she took a last look around the room before switching off the main light and putting on the fairy lights.
Tosh tossed and turned for about half an hour, after everything that had happened that day she didn't know why she couldn't sleep. She'd tried turning the fairy lights off but that had just allowed her imagination to run wild, imagining all sorts of monsters in the dark, so she'd left them on.
After another ten minutes she couldn't take it anymore and decided to get up and get a drink, she pulled the dressing-gown back on and carefully opened the door expecting to see Megan asleep on the sofa so she was surprised to find a pillow and blanket but no Megan. Making her way to the kitchen she had to pass Ianto's room, a small amount of light showed beneath the slightly opened door and when she got closer she thought she could hear something. Despite her better judgement she peered round the door and what she saw made her heart break.
Megan lay next to Ianto with her arms round him while he sobbed into her shoulder; the young girl murmured soothing nonsense while she held him close and rubbed his back. Now and then Tosh heard words she didn't understand and guessed Megan must be speaking Welsh to her brother.
The longer Tosh stayed there the more she felt she was intruding on the very private moment between the two siblings and yet she found it hard to look away. She had never seen Ianto so exposed and vulnerable. It made him seem so much more human than normal when he walked round wearing an expressionless butler mask.
A loud sob took her away from her thoughts and back to the present, she slipped away back to her room water forgotten as she finally managed to fall into a dreamless sleep.
