Hey guys! This chapter is a little overdue, sorry. I've been on vacation and finishing summer homework, but now I'm back and can finally write some more. This is the last chapter for the Move section. Next will be more Dinah and Benny because I miss them. But just a warning, I wouln't expect that very soon. I'm going to take a little break with this to start another story, not Fallout related. It's going to be a Mass Effect story, so if you're interested, be on the look out for that soon!
It was over. Ana had convinced Amata's father to step down and let Amata become to Overseer. Amata couldn't believe Ana's plans actually worked. She was ecstatic. Finally, they could open the Vault to the Wasteland.
But that was where the happiness ended.
"Ana, can I talk to you?" Amata asked, pulling Ana into the corner of the clinic.
"What's up?" Ana said, a smile on her face.
"I...don't know how to say this."
That got Ana's attention. Why did Amata look like she was about to start crying? Suddenly, Ana's heart started to beat a million times faster. Whatever Amata had to say, it wasn't good.
"Spit it out, Amata," Ana said a little more harshly than she meant to.
"I need you to leave the Vault."
Ana took a step back in shock. Did she hear that correctly? Leave the Vault? Why? Didn't she just save everyone in here, and now she was being told to leave? And by her best friend, no less.
The silence hung between them. Amata couldn't even look Ana in the eye. It became too much for Ana; she needed to say something.
"Why?"
"It...it's just...having you here is dangerous. There are still plenty of people in the Vault who don't want to open the door. You being here is just another reminder that I'm in charge now."
"Are you saying I can't even come back? Ever?"
"Yes...for now. I need to get everything settled down in here, and then...maybe."
Ana was seething. She couldn't believe this! After everything she had done and this is what she gets?
"I'm sorry, Ana, but-"
"No, I understand. I'll get my things."
She couldn't yell at Amata no matter how badly she wanted to. So, she just turned on her heel and went back to the room she was staying in. She didn't understand, but what choice did she have? Besides, she had people waiting for her in the Wastes. People that cared about her.
As soon as the door closed behind her, Ana punched the closest wall, causing her knuckles to bleed and tears to escape her eyes. She turned around, clutching her hand, and saw Butch sound asleep on their bed.
She had to tell him.
Sitting down on her side of the bed, Ana shook him awake. He cracked an eye open and smiled up at her, reaching for her hand, only to be left grasping at air.
"Ana, what on earth did you do?" Butch asked, sitting up quickly and grabbing her wrist to examine her bloody hand.
"Took my anger out, that's it. Look, I need to talk to you," Ana said while pulling her arm out of his grasp.
"Okay..." Butch said apprehensively.
Ana took a deep breath. Better to just get it out.
"Amata told me to leave the Vault."
Butch just stared at her like he'd been slapped in the face. Leave? Like hell was she leaving him again.
"You've got to be kidding me. How can she just do that?!" Butch was on his feet now, pacing angrily across the room.
"I'm not happy with it either, but what can I do? Let's face it, Butch, I don't belong here anymore. We both know that's true."
"I'm going with you."
Ana's head shot up at that. She stared at him incredulously. Was he serious? He'd leave his entire life to go with her?
"Butch...I can't ask you to do that."
"You're not asking, I'm coming with. Ana, being without you for a year was hell for me. I'm not losin' you again. All that's left here is my ma, and she's barely spoken to me in a year. She won't miss me. But if you leave without me, I'll miss you. I'll miss you too much, and I won't do that again."
He was standing right in front of her. His mind was made up. Ana got to her feet and used her good hand to smooth back the hair that hadn't gotten mussed up when he'd been sleeping.
"You're absolutely sure?"
"I'm positive. I love you, Ana. Where you go, I go."
Ana's face lit up as her face broke into smile. As long as he was there she'd be alright. He cupped her face and pressed his lips against her's. It was a simple kiss, but held so much meaning. This was the beginning of a new life, together. Ana broke the kiss when the throbbing in her hand became a little unbearable. Butch helped her with a stimpak and packed up what little stuff they had.
They left without a word to anyone.
Once at the main door, Ana heard Butch's intake of breath. She knew what was going through his head. It was hard to leave everything you had ever known behind and wander into the great unknown of the Wasteland.
"Ready?" Ana asked, lacing her fingers with his.
"Ready."
The Vault door closed behind them with a hiss or metal on metal and sirens banging in their ears. There was no going back.
Thankfully, it was nighttime when they walked out the broken wooden door. The sun wouldn't blind Butch quite yet.
"Smells funny," Butch mumbled under his breath.
Ana just laughed and shook her head.
Once in Megaton, they made their way to Ana's little house. The lights were off in all the rooms. Charon was asleep on the couch, never feeling comfortable enough to sleep in the guest room.
At the sight of Charon, Butch's mouth hung open, and Ana promptly closed it and told him to be quiet. They dropped their stuff at the bottom of the stairs and quietly went into Ana's little bedroom.
At the sound of the door opening, Dogmeat's ears perked up and soon he was jumping on Ana and slobbering all over her.
"Dogmeat, sit!" Ana said and quietly as she could. The dog obeyed her and sat on the bed, wagging his tail. Butch was cowering in the corner of the room.
"What is that mangy thing?" he asked desperately.
"It's a dog, Butch. And he's not mangy." Ana said, lovingly rubbing the dog's belly.
"Whatever you say..." Butch mumbled.
"Wanna pet him?"
"No thanks."
"Oh, come on. He doesn't bite."
Hesitantly, Butch stepped closer to Dogmeat. Rolling her eyes, Ana grabbed Butch's hand and put it on Dogmeat's head.
"See?"
"Not so bad, I guess."
"Exactly," Ana laughed, "Okay, Dogmeat, down, mommy has to go to bed now."
The dog jumped off the bed and settled down into a corner. Ana stripped off her armor and lay down, Butch following closely behind.
Ana snuggled into his side and lay her head on his chest, his arms wrapping around her.
"You gonna be okay out here, you think?" Ana whispered into the darkness.
"With you here, I'll always be okay."
Thanks for reading and reviewing!
