Chapter 11
Jason stood in front of the door of Sam's hospital room. He reached slowly for the door handle afraid of what he would find within.
Jason had never been so scared of what he would find within that room.
He had always felt so comfortable and at ease in this environment before. As ironic as it sounded, being as how Jason has seen some pretty horrific things in this hospital.
His parents practically lived here on a regular basis. Jason had always been around the nurses and the various medical personnel since he could remember. There were many stories of Jason playing doctor in daycare healing various toys of medical alements.
He would always be the only child who was more than willing to assist the daycare staff in putting on Band-Aids and comforting children when they were sad or upset. The staff would lovingly smile, at his willingness to help others and they gave him the nickname Dr. Q as a result. He had always wanted to be a doctor; just like his parents but since there were already two doctors at General Hospital with the same last name he decided that he would go and change his last name to Morgan. His parents were shocked, but once he explained to them the situation and that it didn't change who he was on the inside they accepted it.
Jason had long heard about his grandmother's older brother James Morgan, who had always dreamed of becoming a doctor; however he was drafted to join the Air Force during World War II at the age of 19, where he served overseas in Germany and subsequently died a year and a half later.
When Jason approached his grandmother about the name change it brought tears to her eyes that her grandson would be willing to change his last name so that there could finally be a Dr. Morgan in the family.
He leaned toward holding his breathe as he opened the door.
The sight before him was absolutely horrific he could barely recognize Sam because of how swollen her body was. Her face was the color of an eggplant. There were also numerous cuts some that were so deep they required stitches, some of those areas were dangerously close to her eyes. Her head was heavily bandaged which caused him the most worry he knew all too well the trauma that could be inflicted by severe blows to the head.
To be honest if it wasn't for the monitors Jason would've been positive that Sam was dead. He kept reminding himself that his parents had reassured him that the reason she was on a ventilator was just a cautionary measure but it certainly didn't seem to be the case.
The thought of the ordeal that Sam withstood in a high school cafeteria in front of hundreds of people made him absolutely sick. He knew girls could be catty. But for the life of him he couldn't understand how this altercation escalated the only one that could possibly shed light on what really happened between Elizabeth, Courtney, Emily and Sam was Carly.
It didn't to Jason a whole lot of good to vow revenge against three mentally deranged teenagers. He decided to simply set by Sam's bedside for while and hold her hand. After about an hour he decided that his "brief" visit had come to an end.
When he emerged from Sam's hospital room he met a hysterical woman clutching the hands of two younger girls demanding to see her injured daughter.
"You don't understand, I'm her mother I have a right to see my child. If you don't let me see my daughter now I will have no choice but to sue this hospital for everything it's worth." Said the woman clearly becoming more unhinged as the seconds kicked by.
"If you don't calm down Mrs. Davis or I will have no choice but to have security forcibly remove you from the premises." Epiphany stated matter-of-factly. 'I will not have you disrupting this hospital with your hysteria.
"Nurse Johnson, you have to understand this is my eldest daughter I am desperate to see my child I just got a phone call from one of the nurses in the emergency room claiming that a daughter had arrived battered and bruised. She wouldn't tell me anything other than that over the phone the last thing she said to me was that I needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I had to pick my younger daughters from school seeing as how their father Julian is out of town on business." Alexis said exasperated.
"While I understand your plight Ms. Davis that does not mean that I can simply excuse your behavior if you would just calm down I will gladly find your daughter and if that is all possible you will be able to see her daughter shortly.
"Thank you, I really appreciate any help you are willing to give me." Alexis said quickly. Watching the head nurse as she turned toward the computer screen and began typing in Sam's information after a few moments she said, "Your daughter is out of the emergency room and has recently been taken to intensive care. Take the elevator that is just to your left up to the seventh floor after you exit the elevator make a right and go all the way down the hallway until you see another nurses station. Those nurses will take you to your daughter's room.
Alexis prayed that she would be able to remember the directions that would lead her to her daughter at this present moment her mind was going in several directions.
Alexis paused for a moment, "Can I ask you to do me one more favor nurse Johnson. Could you look after my girls while I see to their sister? I promise the girls will not be a problem.
"Do I look like a day care service, to you? I swear, every day it's something can't people understand that I have a hospital to run? I can however ask one of the candy stripers girls to look after your daughters. "Oh, Maxie I have a special job for you. She called waving Maxie over. I need you to look after these two sweet little girls while their mother Ms. Davis looks in on her daughter that was brought in earlier today after being attacked at school."
Maxie's eyes widened, rushing toward the group with a shocked look on her face. "Your Sam McCall's family? I am one of the cheerleaders on the squad with Sam at school. I'm Maxie Jones." she stammered extending her arm to shake Sam mother's hand.
"Maxie, this is hardly a time for an introduction the poor woman would like to see her injured daughter." Epiphany commented trying to bring Maxie back to reality.
"Of course I will take the girls to the vending machine and find a way to keep them occupied while you look in on Sam."
