Chapt 11
"Teresa?" Steve asked confused.
Everybody looked at Tenma, she didn't know what to do, she opened her mouth to speak but she couldn't think of anything to say.
"Don't worry guys, just did a little research." Tony finally spoke, "she ain't that much different you know?" he said glancing specifically at Natasha which made her tilt her head side wards in confusion.
Tony groaned, "I hate explaining! Didn't any of you do at least some research on her? I mean, she's new and we barely knew anything about her. Seriously guys?!" he took some papers from the couch he was on and started flipping through them.
Everybody looked uncomfortable, Tony, who usually acted immature was being the mature one now.
"Back to topic." Bruce said, "What did you find about Tenma, Tony?"
Tony smiled and cleared his throat, he looked at Tenma for a while, she nodded back at him. Tenma didn't care anymore, no way of stopping Tony from talking.
"Teresa Maria Ferdinand, aka, Tenma." Tony read, and looked at their reactions, no violent ones came, just some confused and somewhat angry looks.
"Ex- assassin and bounty hunter, but was employed by S.H.I.E.L.D to take care of Reindeergames." Tony continued, this time, they glanced at Loki and Tenma, who were standing beside each other.
"Anyway, she was born under parents who were big time criminals, who were involved in underground mafias, drug dealing and some assassinations." Tony cooly said, "they were a threat to S.H.I.E.L.D and were ordered to be assassinated by-" he stopped.
"Assassinated by who?" Steve asked impatiently, but Tony just swallowed and flipped through the other pages he printed out. Tony finally looked up and turned his head to Clint, who was standing behind Natasha. He gulped, "assassinated by, Hawkeye.."
There were small gasps, Tenma didn't look surprised, but she looked sadly at Clint. Clint looked back at her uncharacteristically, "I'm sorry, they were orders." he said to Tenma.
Loki glared at Clint, Natasha sensed a quarrel coming up and so did Tony, "Guys, I'm sure we can all work this out."
"Barton, I don't think a mere apology will give you Tenma's forgiveness." Thor said in a caring manner.
"I told you, they were orders, I never intended to kill them."
"C'mon guys, we all have killed before." said Natasha, who placed a hand on Clint's shoulder.
"Clint, I think you have to give a proper apology to Tenma, maybe even explain a bit more that it wasn't you who wanted to kill them." Natasha softly said to Clint.
"Fury told me she knew her parents were criminals."
"If you knew about her then why didn't you tell us in the first place?" Bruce asked Clint, he was calmly listening to their conversation all this time.
"Orders, again."
"Can't you act by yourself?" Tony said.
"The Hawk couldn't act by himself." Loki finally talked.
"Shut up, Loki."
"I am part of this team now, I have the right to speak."
"No you're not, you never were, you're the bad guy!"
"Loki has agreed to help us. He is not the villain anymore."
"Oh please Thor, I was always the villain."
"No, you weren't always, but I tell you brother, stay out of this. Barton, I agree with the Lady Romannoff, you must apologize to the Lady Tenma."
"Yeah, I'm sure she'll forgive yea, right Tenma?" Tony turned his head to the place Tenma was standing, happy that the quarrel was ending.
But Tenma wasn't there anymore.
*SOME STARK ROOMS AWAY*
Tenma was not mad, she wasn't sad, she wasn't pissed, she wasn't relieved either. She knew that they were quarrelling because of her. She forgives Clint, somewhat, but she'll never forget that he was the one who killed her parents and made her live and survive by herself at an early age.
She slumped down the door, there she sat, back facing the cold wooden door, she can hear them, talking about her, although in a softer manner than earlier.
She didn't like the noise of people quarrelling, it reminded her of her childhood, her parents always quarrelled but got back together anyways, she knew that they didn't get back together for her or for the fact that they loved each other, but because of the businesses.
There were footsteps, walking towards the room she was staying in, there was a knock, she opened the door.
"Look, I know that you want to apologize but I already forgive you I-" She stopped and realized who she was talking too, she was expecting it to be Clint but it wasn't.
"Are you seriously going to forgive him? After he has killed your parents." Loki said to her as she let him in the room.
She sighed, and flopped on the bed, Loki stood in front of it, just waiting for her reply.
"Dude, a lot of people kill each other each day."
"I wouldn't forgive him if he killed my parents."
"Except that you don't have any."
Loki glared at her, she knew what she had said and was hoping it would make him stop talking, she wasn't much in a mood for chitchat.
"Be careful of what you say. My father is dead but I know not of my mother's existence." he said menacingly, "I do not want to have a quarrel with you about my parentage, I want to talk about yours."
Tenma looked at him, she patted the bed, "Sit." she said. Loki sat beside her but obviously kept his distance which made Tenma roll her eyes. "Look, my parents just like what Tony said, were big time criminals and was a threat to S.H.I.E.L.D, they trained me, they sent me to a school, which gave education at the same time martial arts." she said to him, she sighed again.
"By the time I was 15, my mom and dad started bringing me with them to places where they interrogated people, suspects, usually from a different mafia, they told me to watch, watch the interrogators closely, not to miss any detail and take note on their most effective ways on how to squeeze out information." She stopped, Loki waited, looking at her, but she wasn't looking back, her big glistening, dark brown eyes drifting off to other directions, trying to avoid his eye contact.
"It wasn't pretty." she continued and gulped. "Most of them were innocent, some even old, some young or even as old as me." she said, trying to keep her cool voice but couldn't.
"You don't have to continue." he said, trying to take out the caring tone in his voice, but couldn't.
"I should, I want to, I need to, I have to." she told him, this time looking straight at him.
"No, you don't want to, you don't need to, you don't have to." he said back, staring right back at her, this time, the caring tone coming in strongly.
Loki kept his gaze, she kept hers too, but she turned her head and looked down. "I killed many people, most were guilty, but I try not to think of the innocent ones I killed." she said, keeping her gaze towards the floor.
Loki sighed, edged a little closer to Tenma, "I, have killed 80 people in just 2 days. What does that show?" he said, she looked at him, "They were innocent, a lot of them were, but no man or god is purely innocent... Young or old, they do sins every day, some minor and some... Well.. just as big as mine." he smiled at her warmly, but his eyes were sad.
They kept quiet for a while, just staring at each other, if you looked at them from a far, Tenma looked like she was glaring and Loki's eyes mocking her. But they weren't, they were sharing a moment, that hopefully, neither would forget.
She smiled and quickly pulled him into a hug, Loki's first reaction was his eyes widening, but soon hugged back. "I'm sorry that a mere human like me, hugged you and made you say such inspirational and cheesy words." She whispered in his ear. He chuckled, "You're not a mere human, you're a special one." he jokingly whispered back.
They pulled away from their hug and looked at each other, Tenma was smiling and Loki was doing a smile which was like he was trying not to laugh.
Just at the right time, JARVIS spoke, "Sir Odinson, Tony is calling for you in the living room. Ms. Teresa, Mr. Stark asks if you could stay in the room until I call for you."
"Thanks JARVIS, oh and please, call me Tenma."
"Of course, Ms. Tenma.."
Tenma turned to Loki, "Stark's calling." Loki smiled at her and stood up, he walked to the door and left.
"Pheew.." She sighed as he closed the door, she laid her back on the bed, and closed her eyes. "I just hugged Loki." she thought to herself, she blushed a bit at the thought.
Tenma stood up and walked to the bathroom, she opened the closet and took a new set of clothes prepared for her by who knows who or what. She walked into the shower, and turned on the tap, the warm water flowing on her skin relaxed her, she put on shampoo and cleaned herself, she breathed another sigh, today was a very stressful (not to mention eventful) morning.
She closed the tap and dried herself up, just when she put her clothes on, JARVIS spoke again, "The Avengers and Sir Odinson have proceeded to the meeting room, Mr. Stark has asked me to call for you. Please proceed to the next floor, you will find the meeting room there."
"Thanks JARVIS!" she said now in a cheery tone, she felt better after the shower.
She went to the elevator and followed JARVIS' instructions, she walked out and found the meeting room on the left, Loki, Thor and Tony weren't sitting but the rest were.
"AH! Teresa! We were just talking about you! Again!" Tony piped up at the sight of Tenma.
"What?" she asked in confusion.
Natasha groaned, "Don't mind Tony, we were talking about you because of our planned "training session" and we have to see your moves."
"What?" Tenma said in confusion again.
