Hey all! This is my first ever Fairy Tail / Harry Potter crossover! To be more precise, it's a crossover of Harry Potter and the AU Fairy Tail I created in 'The S-Class Mage'. I hope you enjoy it!

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or Fairy Tail.

Things couldn't have been worse.

Filch took Harry and Hermione down to McGonagall's office on the first floor, where they sat and waited without saying a word to each other. Excuses, alibis, and wild cover-up stories flitted through Harry's mind, accompanied by the occasional confused thought as to why they weren't taken to Lucy instead. Harry couldn't see how they could get out of trouble this time. There was no reason that McGonagall would accept for their being out of bed and creeping around the school at night and being at the top of the Astronomy Tower. Add Norbert and Harry's Invisibility Cloak to the equation and Harry was sure they'd be packing their bags.

Harry paled when McGonagall finally came in, leading in Neville.

"Harry!" Neville began quickly. "I was trying to find you to warn you, I heard Malfoy say he was going to catch you, he said you had a drag-"

McGonagall saw him shake his head to cut Neville off and scowled. In that moment, Harry thought she was more likely to breathe fire than Norbert.

"After I caught a student near the Astronomy Tower, I told Mr Filch to wait around and bring me any others who would go there." McGonagall was livid. "I never would have expected it to be any of you, though. It's one o'clock in the morning. Explain yourselves!"

For the first time ever, Hermione didn't answer a teacher. She simply stared down at her feet in silence.

"I think I know what's going on." McGonagall observed. "It doesn't take a genius to work it out. You fed Mr Malfoy some crazy tale about a dragon to get him out of bed and into trouble. I already caught him. I suppose you think it's funny that Longbottom here heard the story and believed it too?"

Harry glanced at Neville, who was staring at them with a mixture of shock and hurt. Then he paled when he realized that Meledy, who was fiercely protective of Neville for some reason, would blame them for Neville being out as well.

"I'm disgusted." McGonagall snarled. "Four students out of bed in one night! I've never heard of such a thing before! Miss Granger, I thought you had more sense. And Mr Potter, I thought Gryffindor meant more to you than this. All three of you will receive detentions – yes, you too, Mr Longbottom – and fifty points will be taken from Gryffindor."

Harry looked aghast. "Fifty?"

McGonagall have a heavy sigh. "Fifty points each."

"Professor, please-"

"You can't-"

"I can and I will, Potter!" McGonagall snapped at him. "Now get back to bed, all of you! I've never been more ashamed of Gryffindor students!"

A hundred and fifty points lost in one night. That put Gryffindor in last place and buried any chance they had of winning the House Cup. Harry felt sick. How could they ever try to make up for this?

His worry kept him awake all night. He could hear Neville crying into his pillow for what seemed like hours. He knew both of them were dreading the next morning. After all, how would the rest of Gryffindor react to what they'd done?

At first, the Gryffindor students thought there was a mistake with the giant hourglasses showing house points. And then the truth slowly came out: famous Harry Potter, their hero of two Quidditch matches, had done this to them, him and two other bratty first-years.

As a result, Harry found himself the most hated person in school. Even Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs, who were looking forward to see Slytherin lose the House Cup, turned on him. Everywhere he went, people pointed him out and didn't bother lowering their voices as they insulted him. Slytherins, on the other hand, laughed and cheered whenever they saw him.

Only Ron, Wendy, and Meledy stood by him.

"They're all forget this in a few weeks." Ron told him. "Fred and George lost loads of points during their time here and people still like them."

"They never lost a hundred and fifty points at once though, did they?" Harry countered.

Ron deflated. "No..."

It was too late to try and fix things, but Harry swore to himself not to meddle in anything else that didn't concern him. He felt so sick of himself that he even went to Wood and asked to resign from the Quidditch Team.

"And how will that help fix things?" Wood shouted at him. "How are we supposed to get any points back if we can't win at Quidditch?"

Harry half-wished Wood had accepted his resignation, since Quidditch had also lost its' fun. The rest of the team didn't speak to him during practice, and when they had to mention him, they just called him the Seeker.

Hermione and Neville were suffering too. They didn't have it as bad as Harry, but nobody would speak to them either. Hermione had stopped trying to answer questions in class, keeping her head down and working in silence.

Then, just a week before exams were supposed to start, Harry heard Quirrell whimper as he passed by an empty classroom on his way back from the library.

"No – no – not again, please-"

Harry moved closer, intrigued.

"All right – all right-" Quirrell sobbed.

Next second, Quirrell left the classroom quickly, adjusting his turban as he went. Harry waited until the man was gone, then slipped into the classroom. He frowned at the ajar door at the other end and was halfway towards it before he remembered his decision to not get involved in things. Still, he was certain that Snape had just left the room and from the looks of it, it seemed Quirrell had finally given in.

"Snape's done it, then!" Ron decided as soon as Harry told the group what he heard. "If Quirrell told him how to break his anti-dark force spell-"

"There's still Fluffy, though." Hermione reminded him.

"Maybe Snape found out how to get past Fluffy without asking Hagrid." Ron looked around the book-filled shelves. "I bet there's a book on the subject in here. So what do we do, Harry?"

"We go to Dumbledore." Wendy spoke up. "That's the best thing we can do right now. We'll just get the teachers angry at us if we try anything ourselves."

"We don't have any proof." Harry observed. "Quirrell won't back us up, he's too scared. Snape just has to deny everything and they'll believe him over us. Filch is too friendly with Snape and he'll be happy at the chance to get some students thrown out."

"What about Lucy-mama?" Meledy suggested. "I'm sure she'll listen."

Harry sighed. "It's possible, but we're not even supposed to know about the Stone or Fluffy, remember? That'll take a lot of explaining."

Ron didn't look convinced. "If we just do some poking around-"

"No." Harry decided with finality. "We've done enough poking around."

The next morning Harry, Hermione, and Neville all got notes delivered to them. They all said the same thing.

"Your detention will take place at eleven o'clock tonight. Meet Mr Fullbuster at the Entrance Hall." Harry read out. "Signed, Prof. M. McGonagall."

Harry sighed, remembering that they still had detentions to do on top of losing points. He half-expected Hermione to complain about losing a night of studying, but she remained silent. Like Harry, she felt they deserved the punishment.

At eleven they left the others and went down to the Entrance Hall with Neville. Gray was already there, and so was Malfoy. Harry had forgotten that Malfoy also had a detention to do.

"Follow me." Gray ordered, leading them outside. "I'd ask what all of you did to land yourself in this mess, but I already know." He gave Harry and Hermione a knowing glance at that. "If it was up to me, I'd have let the whole thing slide, but... well, anyway, don't think of trying to run off. It'll only get worse for you if you try."

Neville kept sniffing as they marched off across the grounds. Harry wondered what their punishment was going to be. Judging by Gray's admission that he'd rather let them off, it probably was something horrible.

"That you, Gray?" The group heard Hagrid call out. "Hurry up, I want to get started."

Harry felt relieved at the idea of working with Hagrid. It must have shown on his face too, because Gray looked amused. "I wouldn't feel calm just yet if I were you... you are going into the Forbidden Forest after all."

Neville moaned and Malfoy froze when they heard him.

"The Forest?" Malfoy protested. "We can't go in there at night – there's all sorts of things in there – werewolves, I heard."

"No, there's no werewolves in there." Gray reassured him. "Besides, we'll be going in with you guys. Flame-head's been moping around ever since Norbert left, so it's up to me and Hagrid."

Malfoy and Neville looked confused, not knowing who Norbert was, but Harry and Hermione exchanged knowing looks.

"About time." Hagrid grunted, stepping towards them with a crossbow in his hands and Fang next to him. "I bin waitin' for half an hour already. All right, Harry, Hermione?"

The two of them nodded.

"I'm not going into that Forest." Malfoy protested, panic evident in his voice.

"Yeh are if yeh want to stay at Hogwarts." Hagrid countered. "Yeh've done wrong an' now yeh've gotta pay for it."

"But this is servant stuff, it's not for students to do!" Malfoy exclaimed. "I thought we'd be writing lines or something! If my father knew I was doing this, he'd-"

"Tell yeh that's how it is at Hogwarts." Hagrid filled in for him. "Writing lines? What good is that? Yeh'll do summat useful or yeh'll get out. If yeh think your father'd rather you were expelled, then get back off o the castle an' pack. Go on!"

Malfoy bit back a retort, glaring at Hagrid angrily.

"Right then." Hagrid looked at all of them. "Listen carefully. It's dangerous what we're gonna do tonight an' I don't want no one takin' risks. Follow me over here a moment."

He led them over to the edge of the Forest, held up his lamp, and pointed to a narrow path twisting around the trees. "Look there. See that stuff shinin' on the ground? The silvery stuff? That's unicorn blood. There's a unicorn in there bin hurt bad by summat. This is the second time in a week. I found one dead last Wednesday. We're gonna try an' find the poor thing. We might have to put it out of its' misery."

Malfoy was pale. "And what if whatever hurt the unicorn finds us first?"

"There's nothin' that lives in the Forest that'll hurt yeh if you're with me or Fang, and Gray can hold his own against anythin' in here." Hagrid told him. "An' stick to the path. Right, now, we're gonna split inter two parties an' follow the trail in different directions. There's blood all over the place, it must've bin staggerin' around since last night at least."

"I'm going with Gray." Malfoy said quickly, glancing at the confident man. "And... and I want Fang."

"All right." Hagrid nodded. "But I warn yeh, Fang's a coward. So me, Harry an' Hermione'll go one way an' Draco, Neville, Gray and Fang'll go the other. Now, if any of us finds the unicorn, we'll send up green sparks, right? Get yer wands out an' practice now - that's it – an' if anyone gets in trouble, send up red sparks, an' we'll all come an' find yeh – so, be careful – let's go."

The Forest was dark and eerily silent. A little way into it they reached a fork in the earth path and Harry, Hermione and Hagrid took the left path while Malfoy, Neville, Gray and Fang took the right.

They walked in silence, studying the ground. Every now and then moonlight would break through the branches and light up a spot of silvery blood ahead of them. Looking up, Harry noticed that Hagrid was very worried.

"Could a werewolf be killing the unicorns?"

Hagrid eyed Harry strangely. "There hasn't bin a full moon since before this all started. Yer should know that from Astronomy." He observed. "Besides, they're not fast enough. It's not easy to catch a unicorn, they're powerful magic creatures. I never knew one ter be hurt before."

"You all right, Hermione?" He glanced at the girl. "Don' worry, it can't've gone far if it's this badly hurt an' then we'll be able to- get behind that tree!"

Hagrid grabbed them and pushed them behind a large oak tree, then slotted a bolt into his crossbow. Something was slithering over dead leaves nearby: it sounded like a cloak sliding over the ground. Hagrid was squinting ahead for a few seconds, then the sound faded away.

"I knew it." He muttered. "There's summat in here that shouldn't be."

"A werewolf?"

"That was no werewolf an' it wasn't no unicorn, either." Hagrid looked grim. "Right, follow me, but careful, now."

Malfoy glanced ahead and smirked. Gray was alternating between looking around and tracking the trail of blood, Fang was sniffing the ground just in front of him, and Neville was shaking, walking as close to Gray as he could.

An idea forming in his head, Malfoy quietly jogged closer, reached out, and-

"Hagrid!" Hermione seized Hagrid's arm and pointed up. "Look! Red sparks, the others are in trouble!"

"You two wait here!" Hagrid ordered them. "Stay on the path, I'll come back for yeh!"

And with that, he sped off into the darkness, leaving them alone. Thankfully, a great crunching noise announced his return only three minutes later. The others were with him. Hagrid was fuming and Gray looked annoyed. It seemed Malfoy had sneaked up behind Neville and grabbed him as a joke, causing him to panic and send up red sparks.

"We'll be lucky to catch anythin' now, with the racket you two were makin'." Hagrid sighed. "Right, we're changin' groups. Neville, you stay with me an' Hermione, Harry, you go with Gray, Fang, an' this idiot."

"I'm sorry." He added quietly to Harry. "But he'll have a tougher time scaring you, and we've gotta get this done."

So Harry set off into the Forest, following Gray and accompanied by Malfoy and Fang. They walked for nearly half an hour deeper and deeper into the Forest, until the path was no longer visible under their feet. And yet, the bloodstains seemed to be getting larger and thicker. Harry could see a clearing ahead, past the thick branches of a large oak.

"Stop." Gray flung an arm out, making them stop walking. As they watched, he slowly moved closer towards a bright gleaming thing on the ground.

It was the unicorn, they realized, and it was dead. Its' legs were stuck up at odd angles and it's white mane was spread over the dark leaves of the floor.

Gray was halfway towards it when a slithering sound made him pause in anxiety and the others shiver in fear. A bush on the edge of the clearing shook, then a hooded figure cam crawling across the ground. The group watched as the figure reached the unicorn, lowered its' head, and began to drink the animal's blood.

Malfoy let out a terrible scream and fled – so did Fang. Or at least they would have if a thick round wall of ice didn't form around them and Harry, keeping the three of them safe from any outside threats.

"Calm down." Gray ordered them, facing the creature with a fist on top of his other hand. "I don't know what that thing is, but it's not getting near any of you."

The hooded figure raised its head and looked past Gray right at Harry – unicorn blood was dribbling down its' front. It got to its' feet and began moving towards him, freezing him in horror at the idea.

Then a pain pierced his head like he'd never felt before, it was as though his scar was on fire – half-blinded, he stumbled backwards. He heard shimmering, many crashes, Gray yelling something, Malfoy gasping in awe, a short period of silence, and then hooves, moving slowly towards them.

When the pain cleared and Harry could see again, his eyes widened. The entire clearing was covered in bursts of ice, Malfoy and Neville were staring at Gray in amazement, and the man himself was talking to a centaur. But it wasn't Ronan or Bane, who Harry met before Malfoy scared Neville; this one was younger, with almost-white hair and a palomino body.

The centaur walked over to him and pulled him up. "Are you all right?"

"Yes..." Harry stammered. "Thank you... what was that?"

"You are the Potter boy." The centaur observed, noticing his scar. "The Forest is not safe at this time – especially for you. Remain close to the ice user, he's capable of guarding you."

"My name is Firenze." He added as the group began walking toward Hagrid slowly.

There was suddenly a galloping noise and Ronan and Bane sped into the clearing, clearly having ran for some time.

"Firenze!" Bane shouted. "What are you doing? We are not meant to interfere, you know that!"

"That is the Potter boy!" Firenze yelled back. "The quicker he leaves this Forest, the better!"

"And what have you been telling those humans?" Bane demanded. "Remember, we are sworn not to set ourselves against the heavens! Have we not read what is to come in the movements of the planets?"

Ronan looked nervous. "I'm sure Firenze thought he was acting for the best."

"For the best?" Bane scoffed. "What it that to do with us? Centaurs are concerned only with what has been foretold! It is not our business to run around like donkeys after stray humans in our Forest!"

"Do you not see that unicorn?" Firenze bellowed in rage, rearing up on his hind legs. "Do you not understand why it was killed? I set myself against the intruder in this Forest, Bane, with humans alongside me if I must!"

And with that he spun around, pushing Harry away and marching off at a high speed, leaving Gray, Malfoy, and Fang to follow them.

"Why is Bane so angry?" Harry looked confused. "What was that thing Gray saved me from, anyway?"

"Harry Potter." Firenze started in a low tone to avoid being overheard. "Do you know what unicorn blood is used for?"

"No." Harry shook his head. "We've only used the horn and tail hair in Potions."

"That is because it is a monstrous thing, to slay a unicorn." Firenze looked solemn. "Only one who has nothing to lose and everything to gain would commit such a crime. Unicorn blood will keep you alive, even if you're on the verge of dying, but at a terrible cost. You have slain something pure to save your own life and it will be a cursed life from the moment the blood touches your lips."

Harry flinched. "But who would be that desperate? If your life turns out like that, isn't being dead better?"

"It is." Firenze nodded. "Unless all you need to do is linger until you find a better cure. Something that will bring you to full strength, something that will mean you can never die. Harry Potter, do you know what is hidden in the castle in this very moment?"

Harry paled. "The Philosopher's Stone! Of course – the Elixir of Life! But I don't understand who-"

"Can you think of nobody who has waited many years to return to power, who has clung to life, awaiting their chance?"

Harry's throat went dry. "Do you mean... that was Volde-"

"Harry!" Hermione cut him off, spotting him and rushing over. "Harry, are you all right?"

"I'm fine." Harry reassured her, glancing at Hagrid, who was approaching. "The unicorn's dead, Hagrid, it's in the clearing over there."

"This is where I leave you." Firenze told Harry, watching Hagrid rush off to examine the corpse. "Good luck, Harry Potter. The planets have been read wrongly before now, even by us centaurs. I pray this is one of those times."

With those final words, he turned and vanished back into the Forest.

Ron and Wendy were both sleeping when Harry and Hermione got back, and a note told them that Meledy was with Lucy. Shaking them both awake, Harry began to tell them and Hermione what had happened in the Forest..

"Snape wants the Stone for Voldemort." He paced around, too high-strung to sit down. "And Voldemort's waiting in the Forest... and all this time we thought Snape just wanted to get rich..."

Stop saying the name!" Ron hissed, but Harry ignored him.

"Gray saved me and then Firenze came to explain things..." He continued. "But he shouldn't have done that... Bane was furious. He was talking about interfering with what the planets say is going to happen. They must show that Voldemort's coming back... Bane thinks Voldemort should have been allowed to kill me... suppose the planets say that as well."

"So all I've got to wait for now is Snape stealing the Stone." Harry finished. "Then Voldemort will be able to come back and finish me off... well, at least Bane will be happy about that."

"Harry..." Hermione looked scared. "Everyone says Dumbledore's the only one You_know-Who was ever-"

"Hermione..." Wendy cut in, sighing. "You just found out about Voldemort a few months ago, he gave you no reason to fear him, calling him You-Know-Who is cowardly in my opinion, and the very name 'Voldemort' is stupid. Please don't act like a spineless wimp."

Harry and Ron stared at her in amazement.

"Fine." Hermione nodded in agreement. "Dumbledore's the only one who Voldemort ever feared. With him around, Voldemort won't touch you. Anyway, who says the centaurs are right? It sounds like fortune-telling to me, and Professor McGonagall says that's a very imprecise branch of magic."

It was already dawn when they finished talking. Harry climbed up to his bed, tired and with a sore throat, and pulled back his sheets, only to find the Invisibility Cloak folded underneath them. On a note pinned to it were three words.

Just in case.

AN: I skipped the first meeting with the centaurs because honestly, does anyone NOT know how that went?

Chapter 12 will be out shortly, now that TSCM is on hold. Look forward to it!
